    Entree Arugula Salad

Zachary's stuffed crust pizzas never disappoint. This was my second visit to the Grand Lake restaurant within the past year. Its atmosphere is very welcoming and calm. Even when my uncle and I felt the background music was too loud for us to hear each other interact, the staff were happy to accommodate by lowering the volume. The arugula salad was simple but very fresh and not overbearing with the vinaigrette dressing. I felt that the Rustic Italian pizza had a soft texture but its filling of whole roasted garlic cloves gave it that needed "bite." Unfortunately, I could barely taste the Italian sausage due to being smothered in the tomato sauce. However, the mozzarella cheese amount was perfect. I deem Zachary's pizza to be exceptional quality comfort food that is reasonably priced.

A deep dish pizza to die for. Full of flavor, abundance of tomato, mushrooms, garlic, n' spinach I've never had at any other pizza parlor. Now I know why I counted at least 20 pizza makers in kitchen pumping out so many pizzas that take 30 minutes to bake to perfection. I'm getting hungry writing this.

Finally got to try this restaurant and we ordered a medium size Chicago Pizza pie! There are plenty of seats available inside, the pizza pie took about 30 minutes to make, so be prepared if you order. The food came out and was presented by the staff, it was good - alot for the both of us to share so we took it home.

After attending a memorial with friends and family, we decided to head over to Zachary's Chicago Pizza. It was my first time trying true Chicago-style deep dish pizza, and let me tell you--it blew my mind. We ordered about five different pies, all with their own flavors: * A classic cheese pizza that was simple but really tasty. * One with pepperoni on the bottom, which added a rich, savory kick. * Another loaded with bell peppers, mushrooms, and sausage (I don't eat pork, so I picked off the sausage, but the rest was still really good). The real standout for me was the Chicago-style deep dish loaded with sauce. I had two slices, and every bite was amazing. The sauce was fresh and flavorful, the crust had that perfect balance, and overall it was unlike any other pizza I've had before. The service was excellent. There were plenty of staff, and they were very attentive--checking on us every five minutes, refilling water and soda, bringing napkins, and making sure we had everything we needed. Super courteous and helpful. When it was time to leave, they offered us boxes without us even asking, so we could take the leftovers home. The ambience is also worth mentioning. The place is full of Chicago-themed décor that adds a lot of character and makes it feel authentic. Positive energy, good vibes, and a comfortable space to sit, talk, and enjoy great food. Final verdict: Out of 10, I'd give Zachary's a solid 9. The food, service, and atmosphere all came together for an experience I'd happily recommend. Whether you're going with family, friends, or just craving some of the best pizza in the Bay, this is a spot that won't disappoint.

We're at Zachary's Chicago Pizza in Oakland. Oakland. Let me tell you how I think about Oakland. I think Oakland is one of the great sports cities in the country when they get things going. The Black Hole with the Raiders -- they don't have them. Oracle with the Warriors -- they lost them. Even the Oakland A's -- you think Reggie Jackson back -- it sucks that Oakland doesn't have professional sports teams because they have some of the best crowds, best homes. So, I hate that. Now, this was the second most requested place in all the Bay Area. We don't know why. Chicago pizza -- Super Bowl order -- plenty of Super Bowl, pick it a few days in advance. Now, it looks good. I did go back and get napkins because it's so hard to eat this in the one-style review, but that looks really good. One bite. Everybody knows the rules. Don't want to burn my face off. Zachary's deep dish, Oakland. Face burned off. This is a different scale, by the way. I don't know how you can compare a deep dish with any other type of pizza. It's in a different category. I like deep dish. It's just -- how much can you eat? It's like a sit-down 45-minute meal. But it's rare you have this good a deep dish that isn't a chain like Uno's or Lou Malnati's or something that relocated. This is not a chain. They do have more than one location here -- a few of them -- but you don't see a pure Chicago-style place like this outside of Chicago very often. This is very good. I'm going to go for a deep dish. Now again, totally different scale. I'm comparing this versus other deep dishes. This is an 8.1 deep dish. This is great Chicago deep dish. 8.1 Zachary's. I can see why they got all the reviews. This is authentic, great Chicago deep dish in Oakland. Very good.

Stopped in to try a slice here while doing errands last week. Was a lot of deliciousness for the price! A huge slice of pepperoni was $7 and some change. The counter staff were friendly and easygoing. The space is open and inviting for a lunch break during the week.

Went to Zachary's to meet a friend on my way home from a long weekend. He asked me if wanted pan pizza and of course I took the opportunity, as I enjoy a good deep dish. I was not disappointed as the sauce and crust were very flavorful. The other plus was the staff. The service was excellent. Very friendly and checked in on us time to time making sure our drinks were full and if we had anything else needed. I would definitely go back if I was in the area, but being from Southern Cali, I don't know how many opportunities I will have. Definitely a go back.... Enjoy!! Plus I love the artwork on the walls.

I loved this location for groups! They have a lot of space inside and the parking outside isn't bad. It was clean and inviting inside. We ordered a stuffed pizza to-go with mushrooms, sausage and onions. I don't eat onions, but my daughter does. I thought there would only be a few onions to pick out, but it looked like they put two whole onions in the pizza! Yikes! Other than that, the pizza was delicious! Thank you!

This place was amazing. I don't have the opportunity to get a Chicago style pizza in my hometown so I look for it when I travel and found this place and I sure wasn't disappointed. Great pizza and great service. Shout out to my server Antonio, he was on the ball. I definitely recommend this place if you are in Oakland.

Stopped by Zachary's for a quick bite and were pleasantly surprised! We ordered the BBQ chicken pizza and it was absolutely delicious-- balanced, super filling, and packed with flavor. The staff was kind and welcoming, and we were impressed by their nice wine selection too. Great spot for a casual, satisfying meal!

As my bf's birthday tradition we have Zachary's pizza. This time we visited the Grand Ave restaurant in Oakland. We ordered the medium deep dish pizza with Pepperoni, Sausage, Mushroom and spinach. It was delicious, as usual. The pizzas are so thick and meaty, I can only eat one slice at a time, but we love to have some to take home. We also shared the Arugula salad which was huge (family size) Our server, Morse, was very friendly and professional. He even added a little drawing to our To-go box when he packed up our leftovers. I will say everything was good but fair warning, like most restaurants these days, the prices have gone up. Dinner with one beer each was $77 before tip. But, as it was a special occasion, it was worth the trip.

Is it just as good as the Rockridge location?

I feel the pizza was similar, but I liked the newer and less cramped feeling in the Grand Lake location better than Rockridge.

Can I bring my own wine- is there a corkage fee?

At least I got to go a couple times before they closed and was able to try all the unique flavors that I wanted to try. The first time I went was with my family. We got a whole Ube pizza. The taste was good, and love the uniqueness of it. Even the dough is purple! There weren't that many people there when we went, so the service was quick. My second visit was closing weekend with a group of friends. I got to try two more flavors recommended by the server during my first visit - blackberry and longanisa. Both were very good in different ways. I think I preferred the blackberry slightly over longanisa. They had a lot of take out orders that day, and we got the last white dough (there were still Ube). Good thing we got what we got. Even though they were super busy, the service was still quick and pizza came out fast. I heard they opened up again in San Francisco but for take out only. So glad they reopened because after having the amazing pizzas right before they closed on Oakland, my friends and I were sad that we didn't go sooner. Can't wait to try again in the future.

Jeff, the owner and pizza maker, is so nice, warmly welcoming us upon arrival and inquired if we'd prefer indoor or outdoor seating. Beautiful day so opted for outdoor on their expansive back patio. Miso mushroom - new to me, savory and bright flavor. Yuzu and lemon acidity cuts into the savory of the mushroom and miso. Might be one of my new favorites. Soppresata - an OG item on the menu and one of my favorites. Simple classic pizza with soppresata topped with scallions and honey. Savory, sweet. The honey is perfect on this pizza. Longanisa - Filipino inspired with longanisa, baked egg, and tomato. Savory and sweet. Heaviest of the three pizzas. Comes with a side of sweet vinegar to drizzle on top. All three of these pizzas easily are favorites for me. They're super large and best to share with 2-3 people. All thin crust. 6 of us had these three pizzas and were able to finish it but were super stuffed. Wishing the best to Jeff and Spinning Dough's next adventure.

Their pizzas are already reliably delicious, but this deal is genuinely outstanding value since you get a large 18" pizza, your choice of a Caesar or dinner salad, and four very large sea salt chocolate chip cookies, all for $35. We grabbed two of these specials for a group of six and still had leftovers, so I'd say one combo easily feeds three people and could probably stretch to four as long as no one is absolutely starving. The pizzas themselves are ultra thin but still hold up structurally since you can lift and fold each slice without everything collapsing, which is exactly how I like to inhale my pizza. I personally wish the crust were just a touch more burnt and crackly on the edges, but even without that extra char, the flavor and bouncy chew of the dough were spot on. We ordered the Hot Italian and the Sausage & Roasted Garlic pies and absolutely loved both, especially the housemade sweet Italian sausage that appears on each, which is savory, slightly sweet, and super satisfying in every bite. Their house tomato sauce deserves its own shout out because it hits that ideal balance of sweetness and acidity and ties everything together perfectly. On the Sausage & Roasted Garlic it plays beautifully with the rich roasted garlic purée, and on the Hot Italian it stands up nicely to the Calabrian chilis and chili oil without getting lost. The sea salt chocolate chip cookies that come with the special are huge and packed with chocolate chips, and that little hit of salt really enhanced the flavors but the something about the texture was a bit off for me as it wasn't quite chewy or crumbly but rather something in between, which left me a little confused. Another big plus is that Violetta has a full bar so you can pair your meal with a beer, a glass of wine, or a cocktail to match whatever pie you are in the mood for. Between the quality of the ingredients, the thoughtfulness of the flavor combinations, and the generosity of the Restaurant Week deal, Pizzeria Violetta is an easy recommend and a spot I would happily return to with a group (or by myself with plenty of leftovers!).

I don't know why the pies cost so much, but they are only a few blocks from our place, so I want to support the few restaurants that set up shop in West Oakland. However, I'm starting to sour on this place. I don't mind overpaying for pizza; that's just edible, but on a few occasions, I've been appalled by what these folks try to get away with. A couple of months ago, they gave us a pie that was so burnt I had to call to complain, and they replaced it with a less burnt pie. Perhaps they don't know that extremely burnt food is full of carcinogens. This week, we ordered our usual 18-inch pie. This pie was a Frankenstein pie; half of it tasted like it had been sitting under the lamp all day. A telltale sign is how stiff the cheese is; the old dough feels as if I'm chewing on rubber, and the slices are stiff and salty overall, though some slices taste a bit fresher and crunchier. I was disappointed. If you're going to overcharge for mediocre pizza, the least you could do is give people what they are paying for. If I wanted old, stale pizza, I would've asked for the slices that sit under the lamp all day. Moving forward, if we order from this place, I will walk over, place the order, and wait for it, so we don't get cheated again. This place is a reminder of why certain restaurants often fail. The food is overpriced, and they are inconsistent with their service, if not disrespectful, in how they sometimes treat and feed their customers. We're not pigs; we just like eating the sweet little pig.
