It's been awhile since I bought their strawberry pie. It was as delicious as I remembered . I brought it for a dinner party. My surprise when I found out it was about $30 for it. My annoyance while waiting for the pie, I ordered breakfast. They packed it to GO which was challenging to eat in a box. I asked for a plate so I could eat it as it flopped out as a mess. Fries, burgers, milkshakes and soda. The pie's are just the cherry on top. The staff is usually friendly and stays composed when it's busy. They aren't flawless, but I appreciate their hard work. Do not visit this place on a Wed. the crew makes the giant Burger look like someone let the air out of the tire. The Burger is FLAT. Upon investigating, I discovered the burgers all had only 1 slice of cheese, 1 pidley leaf of lettuce, and 1 slice of tomato. They also overloaded with Ketchup, and no pickles (you need to request them). I have been there before, and usually a very good burger, (a bit pricey) but sometimes it is worth it, if they make it GIANT, and do not skimp on the fries. (They use the smallest little bag, and them sometimes load only 14 fries(I counted) which is not enough to get through the Burger. I am giving the Wednesday crew 0 stars, the 5 burgers was not worth the $80.00 dinner cost for the wife and kids. (maybe they made the burgers small because they saw it was kids who were going to eat them??? I should have went to In and Out, just down the street. I stopped by this Nation's to order a whole strawberry cheesecake, service was pretty fast. It was tasty and the way they arranged the strawberries on top was really prety, but it was a little too sweet for my liking, and I prefer my cheesecake more sour. Since it's a seasonal special flavor, it costs more than plain cheesecake. Overall, a decent place to get cheesecakes, and they do have some seasonal flavors available throughout the year. Your paying for food here not fancy service and I like that. Burgers are good quality and the casual atmosphere is what has me coming back. I usually go to Castro Valley or Tracy - when I'm coming from Sacramento. But this place is close to home and remember was here with the kid brother. He likes chili cheese fries and I usually get a burger or chicken burger. I like to sit by the window and look out. I've always found it unusual how there are real flowers on each table. It is a nice touch. If I can remember I get grilled onions - I probably enjoy their chicken burger more than their hamburger since I can think of other places to get more tasty plain burgers. The chicken burger has a wheat bun and I think is probably much, much better for you. The fries are usually hot and since there is no server you get them much quicker when you jump out of your seat and grab them yourself. A good server is great... but usually its a horrible experience. The interrupt you when your talking and you can never find them when you want them. To pay extra for this kind of thing is what I find so questionable. I was talking with a friend last night he felt the same. They barge in while your trying to pray and then rushed him out so fast he was in disbelief. It was closing time. I've never had a horrible time at Nations, this location included. It's consistent, there are banana chunks and it's so good overall. The only downside is that it's garnished with almond slivers so anyone with a nut allegory can't have any. They also don't make them without them sadly. These pies were made at a nearby factory and shipped to this location. It was packed here on Christmas Day. I tried a few other establishments first, but everything was closed. I was grateful this place was open with 3 hard working employees. We got lucky and got an open table right after we ordered. The food wasn't the best, but it was ok. Knowing that the employees probably didn't want to work, but they showed up anyways. What I appreciate about this Nation's location is that the food has never been too greasy. The staff has been attentive each time I've been to this location and I never feel like they are being inconvenienced by a lot of traffic. The atmosphere too, was pretty chill. Different demographics of people gathered for some burgers and fries. The hamburger I ordered was nothing out of the ordinary. It was good, just like my wife's onion rings. However, five dollars for seven or eight onion rings is pretty steep. We did love the seasonal Cherry crème pie that in my opinion has to be their best pie hands-down. The order also consisted of a cheeseburger and bowl of chili which I am not able to rate but my wife and our friend both enjoyed these items. hamburger gets a 3/5, same with the onion rings. The crème pie gets a high 4/5. Overall the location gets a solid 3/5. Or was it mom picking up my sister's favorite pie for her birthday? Either way... First opened in San Pablo, CA back in 1952, Nation's Giant Hamburgers started with...a hot dog? Yup, that's the history! Today, Russ Harvey's giant burgers still feed an entire family, and there's a slice of pie for everyone! Plus breakfast for the early birds. That said Nation's is no frills, just a small diner feel. Come as you are. Seat yourself, take out, take a pie (or two) to go. Did I mention Nation's cheesecake? There's a berry variety, or good ole classic cheesecake made with Philadelphia Cream Cheese in a hand-pressed graham cracker crust, topped with a thin layer of their specially made lemon glaze. Food: Very satisfying. They call them GIANT for a reason. No small, empty burgers here. The Nation's cheeseburger comes packed with tons of sliced raw onions, tomatoes, and lettuce. Pickles? No pickles on these burgers, but try your onions grilled for some sweetness. I love Nation's fries, but these onion rings had a bad day. I'd love some FRESH dipped onion rings! I have yet to dine-in for breakfast but I'll always be home for dessert. Be it, pecan, pumpkin, lemon, key lime, a seasonal pie, or the fam favorite...Nation's banana cream with hand-cut bananas in crème inside a flaky pie crust with whipped topping. It can be tough finding food in Alameda on a Sunday night after 9pm, but if it's still before midnight Nation's will save you! $10.35 for the Bacon Cheeseburger seems a little pricy, but this is the Bay Area, and the burger itself is ginormous and meaty, and the bacon is thick, juicy, and generous on the portion. $2.95 fries...because it's a must. The fries I would skip on next time. The portion size is super small for $3 and you can go elsewhere for cheaper and better! I did not try a pie during this visit but next time I will! We held my son's 7th birthday at Pacific Pinball Museum just 1.5 blocks away, and walked the party of about 25 people here for sliders and birthday pie. Cecilia and her team were wonderful. We had come by a couple weeks in advance to let them know we were planning to be there, and she reserved several tables for us. She even called the morning of to ask if we wanted her to pick up some table cloths for the party. Simply wonderful service, and the burgers and fries (and quesadillas!) were delicious. It can be a pain to have a dozen 7 year olds running around, but the staff (and other customers) were completely understanding.
