This review is for Moda and the wine bar UVA (for breakfast). This place is practically perfect for a budget hotel. And the breakfast and service at UVA were sublime. Shoutout to Seohyun (our waitress). She was exceptional. The folks at registration were also great, and the cleaning staff seemed great, as well. Spotless hotel in great location. It's a bit of a walk to the waterfront, but perfectly doable, and you're so close to theatres, museums, and shopping. Our room had plenty of space, and the bed was comfortable. This place is affordable, has reasonable parking, and the management is well-organized and efficient. Moda is my new favorite Vancouver hotel. Would love to eat breakfast at UVA, again, too. read more

Pre-Cruise Stay at Hotel Moda We flew into Vancouver for an Alaskan cruise and decided to arrive a day early so we wouldn't be rushed getting to the ship. Most hotels near the cruise port were outrageously priced, but I found a great deal on Hotels.com for Hotel Moda--around $350 for the night. We took an Uber from the airport and checked in at the main building, which had a stylish little lobby with a sports bar on one side and an Italian restaurant on the other. The front desk staff told us our room was actually across the street, which felt a little sketchy at first--but once we got to room 402 on the fourth floor, we were very pleasantly surprised. The room felt more like a brand-new apartment than a hotel room! It had a full kitchen, a separate bedroom with a door, a modern bathroom, two TVs, and a spacious living area. Super clean, comfortable, and updated--we loved it. Location-wise, it was about a 15-minute walk to Gastown and downtown, and the next morning we took a short $10 taxi ride to the cruise port. We were dropped off right at the front of the luggage drop-off line. Overall, I would absolutely stay at Hotel Moda again and highly recommend it for anyone looking for a reasonably priced, modern place to stay before a cruise out of Vancouver. read more

Easy to find and convenient for walking to shops and restaurants. We stayed for three nights during Thanksgiving 2023. The price was decent and the room was clean and large enough for two people to move around comfortably. We weren't planning on staying in our room the whole time so it was sufficient for us. Our only gripe was that the room was really warm and we couldn't seem to change the AC/Heater setting. We ended up opening the windows which was fine. The staff was great. They always greeted us and pushed the elevator button when they saw us enter. We would stay here again on a budget. read more

Quaint boutique hotel right downtown. Located at the corner of Seymour @Smythe. Check in was smooth, friendly and easy. We had booked a room with a King sized bed, as I've heard that other rooms can be quite small. (They also have suites available ) The elevator was quick. The room itself had hardwood floors. It had modem minimalist furniture ( a red chair, and a desk ) the king sized bed was comfy, but a bit firm for my taste. The closet had a safe and a full sized mirror. It was roomy enough for all of our suitcases. The bathroom was painted a really cool red colour. It wasn't huge, but it's big enough. It had a cool pedestal sink and toiletries from Bath & Body Works. On the third floor they have a 24/7 business centre with computer and printer. It also has a microwave, ice machine and little library ( take a book leave a book ) They also have 3 places to eat on site. A sports bar, UVA wine bar and an Italian place. They also have a cold beer and wine liquor store ( open until 11 ) The staff was super nice, helpful and friendly. For price, location, cleanliness, and service. If i could leave no stars, I would. We did NOT stay. We left within 10 minutes. Parking garage off site with bullet holes. Staff was rude. Windows don't close. The images online are NOT the same place. Charge for 3 people in a 4 Person room. Booked this hotel for the location and price knowing it was only for 1 night. It was great for our needs. The front desk person was helpful and pleasant. The room was adequate for the night, comfortable beds and needs met. It seems to be located in a busy part of town though we didn't have much time to explore. The TV is small and old as previously mentioned but that didn't bother me. The room was clean though the bathroom floor did have some residue but nothing too bad or really troubling. Got a good deal on this hotel for New Years. This place was one of the most reasonably priced places available in the downtown area, besides those with shared bathrooms. It also had the option to add parking for a reasonable rate, although the parking lot was confusing and had very small spaces, but was locked and secure. No pool, or free breakfast, but they did have free wifi, and multiple restaurant/bars right downstairs. Our room was nice and clean. I was thankful to find a mini fridge hidden in the closet. There was also a safe. Slightly too loud with noises in the hall, but it maintained darkness in the late morning, and had good water pressure. This was walking distances to many places and a great central location. I'd definitely consider this for my next overnight visit to the area if the price was right, in fact I am mostly writing this review to help myself remember. read more

I got a great sense of pride from the staff and place smelled super clean. So very important when staying in a hotel! Our heating fan was a bit loud but we were only there one night. This hotel met my two most important criteria when looking for lodging: close to the venue that we'd ultimately be visiting (the Vogue Theater), and cheap. The Moda is literally right around the corner from the Vogue, which turned out to be more of a blessing than we'd expected, as my husband was able to walk from the theater to the hotel to drop off our VIP loot, and then back to meet me on the rail in no time at all. Beyond the Vogue, it's within walking distance of some great shops and restaurants, and local public transit. The hotel is kind of boutiquey, with a modern flare to it. The room was perfect for our stay - clean, quiet, with a safe and a decent-sized bathroom. The one window looked out onto the alley next door, but we never opened the blinds (not much to see through the constant rain, anyhow). We used the elevator exactly once - on our way up to the room the first time - but utilized the stairs every other time, even on check-out. Their elevator was more like a closet, and it had no discernible "you are here" marker on the inside. Plus, it clanked and creaked like even it was unsure as to what it was doing, so...yeah. I've always been a stairs girl, anyway. About the only thing I'd say against the room has to do with the bathroom. It was large, yes, but the storage options were limited. It had a pedestal sink and one small glass shelf above it. For people like me - who travel with a flat iron, curling iron, large round brush, comb and utilize the hotel's hair dryer - it made getting ready in the morning a challenge. That, and it was a bit dark, at times. And, and. Oh boy - the toilet. Or, rather, the location of the toilet paper roll. If you look at my picture, you can see where the toilet is situated. Now you have to use your imagination to "see" where the toilet paper is located, because it's at the very edge of the picture, to the right of where I was standing while taking the shot. That's right, friends, the toilet paper is about two feet in front of the toilet itself. So, for women (or men doing big business), you have to stretch in order to get paper to wipe! I'm sure my hilarious cries of "Go go gadget, ARM!" and my Bionic Commando arm extension sound effects never got old for my husband, who could clearly hear me in the next room. Save yourself, your tushy, and your back some stress, and grab the toilet paper *before* you settle in to do your business. Other than that, though, we enjoyed our time at the hotel. Moda Hotel's location is an ideal location in downtown Vancouver. You can easily walk to Robson for some shopping or Yaletown for trendy restaurants. This is a boutique hotel and I really like the style of this place. Unfortunately, I don't like how there is no concierge helping you with luggage, the small rooms, creaky stairs and paper thin walls. I heard my neighbour directly upstairs blasting music at 10AM. Self parking is $14 a day and is about half a block away. But let's concentrate on the positive aspects of Moda Hotel: -Proximity to shopping and restaurants -Very good water pressure from the shower -Friendly and accomodating staff -Free wifi Would I stay here again? Booked this hotel for one night with a couple girlfriends. Overall decent for the price, but would never stay here again. The parking garage was extremely unsettling as we noticed two cars had their windows smashed and most parking spots were covered in glass shards. We decided to pay the hotel $24 to park in a gated area of the garage for 24hrs, however, our gate passes were disabled after we checked out 22hrs later and we couldn't enter the gate to retrieve our car. On a different note: we could feel the springs in the mattress and the bedsheets felt like paper. read more

Coming from NYC, I was blown away by Moda's style. Just a simple yet colorful, clean, quiet, affordable, and relaxing hotel in the heart of downtown Vancouver. We appreciate the excellent customer services and suggestions with planning our daily activities. There is a breath taking Italian restaurant and bar adjacent to Moda. They have a live jazz band on Saturday nights. There is absolutely everything walking distance from Moda including fine restaurants, bars, food trucks, shopping malls, theaters, banks, and the train station is literally two blocks away. Moda is roughly 30 minutes from the airport and you can purchase a day pass for nine bucks. It's much cheaper to take the train since the cab fare would be 40 bucks. My two nights stayed here were beyond amazing and I highly recommend staying at Moda if in the Vancouver downtown area. read more

I was looking for a deal in downtown Vancouver and the Moda Hotel caught my eye with affordable prices and a great location (my room was $125 Canadian dollars, or around $95 USD, after taxes, which was quite fair for a big city). The hotel is a small boutique, with tight but stylish rooms. The location is excellent, it was a pleasant walk to the waterfront, and I enjoyed easy access to the Skytrain at City Centre station. The staff was friendly and efficient. To save money, I booked a "mini" room, and it lived up to its name. The queen size bed took up nearly all of the bedroom and the bathroom (not shared) was tight, but the room was clean. Overall would recommend. read more

Our room was super clean, the attached bar is open until 2am, serves awesome craft beers and has a wall of top shelf bottles that rivals anywhere, the attached restaurant serves up a great breakfast (included with our stay) and there's free WiFi. What more can you ask for?! One thing that's a bit awkward is parking at check-in. You have to park in the alley off Smithe (there are signs for moda guests and delivery behind the hotel) and walk around to the main entrance where you will get your room key that opens the garage just down the street. Not a huge inconvenience just a heads up. All the staff were very pleasant and friendly. I'll definitely stay here again. read more

Location...Location...Location! On the corner of Seymour and Smith you'll find the cutest little Boutique hotel in Vancouver. There isn't a huge sign that says Moda Hotel, instead the sign blends in with the decor of the rest of the building. So keep your eyes open, the hotel is located on the right corner as you're driving down Seymour St. Soo.......the ONLY big issue I had with this hotel is parking! There is no parking in the hotel, under the hotel...its across the damn street! My bf and I drove around at least three times to find the parking area. We finally gave up and jumped out of the car to check in and to see where to park. Room was okay size wise. We had a corner room with a king sized bed--awesome view of the street. Even though we had the Wine bar below us we didn't hear too much. Bed was comfy, bathroom a little small. The TV was very tricky to turn on. Since its an older building the front desk told us a few light switches/tv modes to switch it to to be able to use it. A little weird to me, but those tricks worked. For just a one night stay it was comfortable. I'd definitely rec commend this hotel to others who are visiting in the Vancouver area.. It's within walking distance to shopping on Robson and the nightlife on Granville. ***Wifi is FREEEE!!! read more

This is a chic boutique hotel located in downtown Vancouver. It gave me the vibe of a hotel that I may find in Paris. Quaint lobby, old creaky staircase adds to the charm. The location is terrific. So many things within walking distance, including tons of restaurants, cafes, bakeries and of course, the lively Granville St. Also nearby within a 15 min. walk are Yaletown & Gastown. There's an upscale wine bar and restaurant downstairs too. Unfortunately, there are too many choices so we didn't dine there. The daily parking rates are more attractive than other hotels I've shopped. The staff is very friendly and helpful giving us tips on what to check out. The rooms are definitely chic, but small. Our room faced the street on the 3rd floor, which can be quite noisy. Luckily, I always pack earplugs on trips and planes so sleeping wasn't a big deal. Free wifi? Nice touch! And it's blazing fast! So planning next day's adventures was a breeze. So if you're looking for a good rate (room and parking) don't mind a cozy room that's nicely decorated in Ikea-ish (but better) furniture and want a great location, this might fit your bill. read more

Interesting, I read some of the bad reviews down here and for my experience it seems they talk about another hotel! I travel and use hotels a Lot (unfortunately), and I think Moda has been one of the best I've been! I believe that rating hotels has to take into account three critical aspects: location, price, and cleanness. Moda does a great job on all of them. Great location in the hear of downtown close to many great places and restaurants. Price-wise it seems very convenient compared to the other hotels around. Room was perfectly clean and cute. Not a lot of space for sure, but big enough to fit two full size beds. Lot of firm pillows, and a FAST WiFi. Well working A/C. No breakfast included but you have a nice and good bar and a restaurant just at he lobby level. Staff nice, competent, and friendly. Suggested for staying in a convenient location used as a base-camp for your tour of Vancouver. read more

The best part of Moda Hotel is hands down the location. It is pretty much right next to Robson and Granville Street. The hotel is a bit small, namely the lobby and some of the rooms, but for the price, I thought it was a super bargain. I was just up here this past weekend to celebrate my birthday with a bunch of my friends and we booked 5 separate rooms. They were a combination of doubles, queens and kings. Obviously the sizes are going to be different, but I thought mine (room 239) at the very end of the 2nd floor was fine! Sure, we had a view of Staples, but it wasn't a big deal and the bed was comfortable. The bathroom was big enough and the shower had hot hot water. The room has a TV with limited channels, a safe box, a coffee maker with teas and coffee, and ample cups. It doesn't have a fridge though, but we didn't really need one anyway. I don't really have any big complaints except for the thin walls... I could hear people upstairs walking around and talking so that was annoying, but I was only there for a night so that was totally fine. The lobby was cute and "modern" too, but you can tell the building is super old because the elevator is ancient. But on the other hand, service was great and friendly too. Parking is across the street which can be a hassle, but it's not too big of a deal. It's $15 a day with in-and-out privileges. read more

Hotel with Character! Unlike others, we had a clean and nicely appointed room. Very good location but I must say, the floor in our room was slightly tilted. Yes, tilted. No doubt since this hotel dates back to 1908. However, dont let that deter you. Helpful staff and good location. Also, honest people. We mistakenly left our Kindle in the nightstand. After realizing we left it there, I emailed the hotel from our next stop and they FedExed it to our home! Some hotel staff would not have been that honest, even at the high end properties. It would have not been found. Thanks to the staff particularly Mariya at the front desk. Lastly, Cibo, is one the the best restaurants in town! See my other review. Also, the wine bar is a cool hang out and just across the lobby. I liked that fact they were close to good shopping on Robson Street and an easy walk to many of the attractions in Vancouver. Pros: Fairly good location in downtown Vancouver. About 10 minute walk to the waterfront. For mid April on a weekend night, about $100 USD for a standard room including tax. 24 hour parking is across the street for $14, in and out privileges. Staff generally friendly. Cons: Sadly, there were so many. The hotel seems to be older and semi renovated. Still has that sorta older feel though. Maybe we just got the worst room there, but it was super thin walls, where you can hear people even walking down the halls. Luckily (or not), the fan that you turn on is so loud that it semi hides the noise outside. Which leads me to...there is no A/C or it was broken in our room. The thermostat consistently read 25 degree Celsius. Ordinarily, when it's only 50-low 60 F outside, I do not need A/C but seriously hot air was coming out of this fan. The room felt like what summer would be like. I don't know how you can stay here when it's actually warm out. Also as mentioned, parking is across the street on the 5th level. Not that convenient to go to your car. Overall, I guess you get what you pay for. Did not realize it would be that bad of conditions, but good location and cheap rate, something's gotta give. If you wanna save money and don't mind too much, sure, but I will likely not stay here again. read more

We (2 of us) booked a mini room at Moda through HotelTonight. We were looking to save a little money because we were planning on being out of the hotel for most of the weekend, and really only needed a place to sleep and shower. The room was clean and nicely decorated (the colors and furnishings were modern). The parking is weird (across the street and on the fifth floor of the garage which you need a room key to access) and there isn't an easy place to park for checking in to get the key to access the parking garage. The other downside was that our AC/heater unit was broken. We came back to an extremely hot room both nights, even after setting the temperature to be much cooler the second day before we left. Overall, a good place to stay if you're looking to be close to restaurants, bars, and shopping and save money on your room! read more

2.5 star hotel with rude staff and cheap finishes. Bait and switch! Stayed here for one night on a Monday to Tuesday. First of all the address in google maps is wrong so we had to drive around several time in the pouring rain to find the place. I ended up getting out of the car and just walked up and down the block to locate the hotel. No large viable signs anywhere. We Booked indirectly through an app so beware since they will try to stick you with the "mini" room which is a single queen and a really small room where the walls are caving in and only a stand up corner shower. When I checked I was trying to be as nice as I could to the gentleman at the front desk. I let him know wanted a room with two separate beds if it was possible and I assumed it was a small request since it was a Monday there were plenty of vacancy's. He said they had rooms available but I would have to pay $40 to upgrade which was almost double my original reservation cost from a "deal site" which was "deal" on those last minute hotel deal sites sites where they have a daily deal. I asked if I could rent a cot and he said that was not possible since the room was too small. I've stayed at big name hotels and they would accommodate 2 beds without hesitating. It just felt like they wanted to squeeze every penny out of me with this bait and switch tactic they use online. Who has "mini" rooms as an option?! Add $20 more for parking which is not on site and you have to park at the parking garage down the street all the way on the top level which is a little inconvenient. Overall it would have been a better value to book a normal big name hotel where things are consistent. The finishes were cheap in the room like ikea lamps and a tiny TV. When we got in the room the tv didn't work and they were stingy about towels. The corners of the room were dusty and our heater never got warm enough and ran all night. The building is old and insulation is bad and you can hear the street and other rooms. Our safe didn't work either. We went out that night and got back around 1:30 we walked in the lobby and this burly old lady yelled at us and scolded us to make sure we didn't have more people in the room as allowed. I gave her my name and the room number and she quickly seemed shocked and knew she was wrong but still no verbal apology. Such and aggressive tone and she could have easily just asked what room we were in. I used the key card to get in so obviously I was staying there. I felt like we were being interrogated. As we got in the baby sized elevator we just laughed because we were treated so poorly the whole time were were there and just vowed never to come back. These people are not in the hospitality business. They just want to squeeze every dime out of you and turn you over. You're just a number to them. You're better off staying at the Ramada down the street with more consistent amenities and staff. Stay away from this crappy boutique hotel. I'm willing to bet They'll be out of business in the next 5 years. read more

My husband daughter and I stayed there on 1/18/19. We dove from Washington state to see the Peter Murphy concert at the Vogue Theatre. The hotel is perfect walking distance to the Vogue theater as it is only a block over. We also appreciated the convenience of having restaurants and stores nearby. But we had a horrible night sleep. Our room on the second floor was directly above the hotel nightclub that was open until 4 AM. The music rattled our walls, we felt like our bed was right next to the juke box. When I went down to the complain to the night manger and he didn't seems to care. I would never stay here again. read more

I only stayed here for one night, but I'm a fan. It's tiny, it's adorable, and I had zero complaints about the service. Downsides: parking is actually across the street at another building, and the rooms (at least the one in which I stayed) don't have a minifridge. Not a dealbreaker, but sort of frustrating when you go to a restaurant and can't bring home the rest of your food. It's quite affordable, as well, which is always a plus in my book. read more

Moda Hotel is a small vintage boutique hotel. It's definitely located in a nice spot of downtown Vancouver. It's not too far off from Robson, 15-20 minute drive to Stanley Park, 25 minutes to Richmond. I think it's definitely in a good location. Downside? The fact that it is a "vintage" boutique hotel, as called by the manager, there's times where you won't have hot water. It's 30*F outside, freezing cold, but no hot water to shower with? That's ridiculous. Especially if I'm paying $160/night. Another downside. I was staying there on the night of new year's eve. My hotel room was right above their bar/lounge and music was blasting until 3-4am. I understand that it was new year's eve, but letting us know prior and allowing us to switch rooms would've been a nice offer. The service there is MEH. I didn't find the staff there to be any bit friendly and had a very whatever attitude. The only upside? I left something at the hotel and they were able to ship it to me, charging my credit card that was on file. Overall, I'm unimpressed. PS. There is no refrigerator. There is no microwave. Moda is a very hip well located boutique hotel. Walk to Granville nightlife, Yaletown restaurants, and Gastown's old world charm. We only stayed one night as it was booked up the rest of the week. Moda is an updated century old hotel which gives it its charm and a few downsides - walls are thin, and rooms are small. There were only 2 memorable aspects of the experience at the Moda Hotel: The location and the customer service. I've anticipated too much from Moda. Judging from the lobby, it looked like a very cheaply constructed, tiny unlively hotel which was disappointing as I read from the previous review that this is a great hotel and so I expected the Shangrila. There is nothing swank about this hotel. Anyway, first impressions aside, the customer service deserved 100 points. Somebody greeted me as soon as I walked in and the reception was quick to answer any questions I had and the check in process was super fast. As for the room itself, it wasn't great, in fact a very motel like room and as someone mentioned ikea like furnishings. I had to do some work in the hotel and the internet connection was extremely poor. It kept crashing on me and I was unable to hold a Skype call. The location is unarguably attractive- walking distance everywhere. It is right in between downtown and Yaletown, two fantastic areas of Vancouver. I believe Moda hotel has one of the cheapest rates for downtown, and I guess I got what I paid for. Simply put, this hotel is one step up from the Motel 6 chains in America. read more
