Stopped into this spot with my brother to grab breakfast this morning. First time visiting, and what you'd expect the interior of an old time diner to look like. But this one has an addition on the back with more counter space to fit more diners. They had a decent menu, offering many breakfast staples like eggs, pancakes and French toast that was apparently featured on the Food Network at some point. Having had something small before going out, I wasn't too hungry but got a sausage egg and cheese sandwich on white bread (though they serve grits, biscuits apparently haven't made their way to Pawtucket yet). Food came out quickly, and was tasty, and hit the spot. Service was ok, and attentive. Overall, it was a good visit, and somewhere I'd love to visit again when I'm hungrier, to try their famous French toast.

O boy, two reviews in two days and another coming later today! Woke up and was like let's go to a place I use to go a bunch of times when I was younger but haven't given a review ever. Took the nice ride from Riverside to the Bucket, as usual Rhodys call Pawtucket. Got a couple pics outside to show all the awesome diner vibes. Walked in and was greeted right away told me I could sit anywhere. (Go early on the weekends because the place fills up fast). I grabbed a counter seat and a polite server came up to me and asked me if I wanted coffee and I asked for a cup of ice water instead. I sat there for a couple minutes just looking around soaking up the nostalgia of the place. All the chrome and polished bits. So on and so forth. Super cool! I start looking at the menu and I see this item I use to get way back when, and I'm like that's what I'm getting. The waiter came up and asked if I was ready to order and was like yup, I get a Bloody Mary and a Jimmie Gimmie please. I wait about 3 minutes and I get the Bloody Mary and the other 4 minutes and the food came out. On to the review!!! Bloody Mary - Super tasty with a little kick to it!! Jimmie Gimmie -picture an eggs Benedict with no hollandaise sauce but instead fresh sliced tomatoes instead of the ham with American cheese and bacon over the nicely poached eggs! It was exactly how I remembered it. I was so happy! Home fries - just enough crisp on the outside and nice and soft on the inside. Half way through eating the waiter came over to ask how I was doing and how the food was and I replied with the food is great and can I ask you if the cornbeef hash is home made? They replied yes and I asked for a side of that please. 4 minutes later it came out. Cone beef hash - nice crispy texture on the outside and silky smooth texture on the side but not mushy. YUM YUM! Great diner with fast and friendly service. Food was awesome! I can't wait for my next visit to Modern!

Stopped by this morning after a long walk. Lucky for me it wasn't too busy. I got greeted right away and was in a both in a few seconds. I had a very energetic young waitress who took great care of me. I'm a creature of habit so I had the usual blueberry pancakes and hashbrowns. The hostess went above and beyond the call of duty and helped a customer process his payment from his phone. The place was very clean and I left a satisfied customer.

Marginal food, lacking spices and flair. It's edible but nothing special. If you like horseradish and a spicier Bloody Mary it was good, a bit too much spice for me. The sauce on the chorizo special tasted a bit like cheese whiz. Loved the Portuguese bread base though, that was delicious. Egg was overcooked but not rubbery. Home fries were ok-needed spices/salt and pepper. My husband said the omelet was ok. Decent amount of meat well Proportioned to cheese ratio. He also felt it needed spices. Bacon was cooked perfectly. Really feel the Modern diner has taken a nosedive and needs to return to their former level of deliciousness. May have just been an off day though.

One of the best breakfast places in RI. If you go, you must get two things: 1) shrimp and grits for savory 2) custard french toast for sweet The eggs and other stuff here is good but basic...so stick to the above and just add an egg if you need protein. FYI: Sometimes it has been cold in here during the winter- dress accordingly.

Great breakfast/brunch spot! Nothing fancy, but guaranteed good food. Can get busy on weekends and i don't think they take reservations. Plenty of parking in lot or on street. Menu items from omelettes to pancakes plus daily specials. Quick and friendly service. Quaint place, looks like an old box car from outside.

The place was really cute. Service was great. And the food was really good too. I felt like it was a little expensive. I'm not sure if go back, but I'm happy I tried it, and would highly recommend checking it out.

Fantastic! I had t been here in years since I no longer live in the area. We were back this past weekend. I had the Custard French Toast . It was fabulous! More like something you'd get in a high end restaurant! Loved ur!

Yum!! I'm still new to Providence, but so far this is one of my favorite brunch spots!! Highly highly highly recommend getting the custard french toast! I haven't had anything like it and the custard is so creamy and delicious and not overly sweet. In my most recent visit, they put a lot of custard on the plate, so I asked for another cup and they were so kind to get me some more custard to dip the french toast! Their other breakfast staples are also great! Classic diner style vibes. Friendly staff. Plenty of parking in lot by diner. Takes both cash or card! Would definitely recommend for a casual brunch!

This was my third visit to the Modern Diner and my first review. I've ordered pancakes, my husband has ordered the cornbeef hash and my daughter ordered the special French toast at other visits, all which were better than this visit so keep that in mind for this review. The western omelette was overcooked and just not that good. The ingredients were all there but the execution wasn't. The side potatoes were delicious though. The French Toast was not good at all, and I LOVE French Toast so I was pretty disappointed. It was cooked on the same grill as other food and it absorbed the taste which was not appealing at all. The bacon however was delicious! I gave it three stars by averaging it with other visits. This visit was a big miss but my first two visits were far more enjoyable food wise. If you enjoy trying new diners then certainly stop in for the special French toast.

Although the parking lot was busy, there were still plenty of tables available inside. There is a larger dining area in the back, but we stayed in one of the booths in the area where you first walk in. It gives old school diner vibes with the red stools, yellow/tan booths, aluminum accents, and small tile floor. The menu is comprehensive as it offers breakfast and lunch, and both sweet and savory options. My friend and I both ordered the steak and eggs ($16.99 each) but I ordered my steak medium (anticipating for it to be cooked a little heavier than medium), with scrambled eggs and cheese on top, with a grilled English muffin. The food came out after about 10-15 minutes. They did have about 4 options of hot sauces we could choose from including Frank's, Tabasco, Cholula, and Sriracha - but the only right answer is Sriracha followed by Cholula. The steak was tasty and cooked exactly how I wanted it to, with a gentle sear. The home fries were delicious as they were soft, but also had bits of fried onions to enhance the flavor. The English muffin was golden, crispy, and slightly buttery. The eggs were very fluffy and the white cheese was completely melted into them which was great. The service was good, where we got everything in a timely manner, but we didn't feel rushed or overwhelmed with questions regarding our experience.

The burger was a 6/10 , fries 6/10 and the coffee bun was 5/10, the bun was definitely house made which is good but the bread they made it out of gave off white loaf bread and I just wasn't a fan. Really brings me back to my childhood and going to Pawtucket breakfast spots with my Dad on weekends. Immediately I thought yes- reasonable breakfast prices! 2 eggs, toast and home fries $5. The equivalent to the $1.99 breakfast that was forever a Pawtucket staple. I would consider this the new bar. I did add bacon which came out super crispy- love it! I did ask for half an order of home fries which was perfect for me. I did love all the little crunchies in there. I like their home fry game here. My son had a banana pancake. A small she stated- It was as big as the plate and cost $2! I can share the waitress was very nice and I paid attention to her interactions with other patrons. They have a sign that referred to entering as a stranger but leaving as a friend. I can share they seam like they mean it here. It was a comfortable, inviting type of place and its not because of the decor but the staff.
