This has been my choice for Optometry for the last 5yrs. I first started coming here with Dr. Kim and due to his exceptional service I continued to only see him. A few years ago he moved away but Dr. Chen took over this location and I still continue to choose this place over any other Optometry locations. From the moment I had my first appointment to Years later Dr. Chen always offers great service and answers all my questions/concerns I may have. I recommend calling ahead since it is a small office and can get very busy. The eye exams are quick and very comfortable. All the equipment is up to date so no more of the eye machine that pops air in your eye!! Sorry guys I really hated that machine and dreaded appointment from other locations because of this. They offer a great selection of eye wear both glasses, sunglasses and contacts. *forgive me for the spelling and grammar errors, I am trying to write this while my two kids are climbing on me. The first time I came here the power was out in the entire mall, other stores were turning away customers but the front lady asked me to come in and showed me some glasses. I went to two other stores the next couple days and found one that was okay. Remembering how friendly Modern Eyes were to me and my crazy kids I decided it would be fair if I didn't give them an honest try. Came back today and the same front office lady was super friendly and showed me every frame I wanted to see and even told me the true by saying when a frame didn't look good on me. Well it even gets better when I see the optometrist, she REALLY cared she took some extra steps to ensure my rx is correct and even convinced me to dilate my pupils because it has been years since if have done it and the medical reason I should do it frequently. She even told 15 minutes to give me a biology lesson on how the eye works and how certain conditions are treated. I been to many Drs that push you through like cattle or they ask you if you want to do a test and if you say no they just accept it. Or even worse they try to make you do additional services just to up sell you without good justification. I truly felt she REALLY cared about the health of my vision and not just another buck she will make. I will up date my review when I pick up my glasses if I don't experience the same great service. read more

Very clean and nice staff. Took my 9 yr old to get her glasses here. The doctor is really good and genuinely cares about your eyesight. I wanted to try on some colored contacts and she was nice enough to tell me to tell her staff to give me a free trial pair. When I decided on the color and asked for the free trial the female employee said they don't give free trials. I didn't want to hassle her since I had both of my kids there and my son was running a ruckus and acting wild in there. They were very patient with both my kids and I. Still waiting for our glasses and contacts to come in, they said it would be a week or two. read more

I was in the market for a new optometrist since relocating and I was referred to Dr. Chen's office. I'm a big believer in customer service- Dr. Chen and her staff were professional and welcoming. She recommended me switching over to soft contacts and made sure that I understood everything that was going on for my eyes. Don't really go to the optometrists often at all but now I know which place to go now. What I really liked about this place is Dr. Kim and the receptionist. The receptionist is really nice and basically jumped through hoops to get information from my insurance (which turns out to be a discount program and not an insurance. Sorry again if you are reading this). Dr. Kim is extremely professional, patient and knowledgable. Dr. Kim did not mind answering all of my questions and did not make me feel rushed at all. I can tell that he really enjoys what he is doing and likes to interact with people. I would really recommend this place to anybody especially if you live nearby. Oh! I believe appointments are not necessary (they were very accomadating to me when I walked in to get an eye exam). Dr. Kim also welcomes you to come back if you are not happy with your prescription. It had been almost 2 years since my last eye exam, and this place stood out when I searched on yelp. When I came in, I was pleasantly surprised to see the new doc, Dr. Chen. She greeted me with smile and was very professional. During the exam, she was very informative with my eyes and I felt very comfortable with her. I didn't feel rushed and she took the time to explain what she was doing. I got my eyes dilated for the first time in years, and was happy to hear the good news that everything is healthy. The whole office is very modern and clean and they have a HUGE selection of frames. I found a nice pair of Raybans and I can't wait to get them! If I could give zero stars I would. I asked the girl who works there 3 times to explain what my insurance company would cover and what I have to pay out of pocket. She could not answer my question. I figured she was new so I just over looked the fact that she couldn't answer my question and just kept telling me what my portion was. That was half of what I asked. I was seen on January 18th. I was told that my glasses would take 5-10 business days. On my week follow up for my contacts, I asked the gentleman who works there if my glasses had come in yet. Being that it was 5 working days already I thought I might get lucky. He told me to call sometime next week that next Friday would be 10 full days. So I call on that Friday. He said that they would be in but their shipment was not there yet. That he was going to figure out where they were and call me back. He called me back and said that they would be in on Monday. So I call Monday afternoon and the girl who couldn't answer my question from my initial visit answers. She says that my glasses are still not in and that she would call the lab and get back to me. This was Monday around noon. Of course she did not call me back. So I call Tuesday morning which is now the 12th business day and almost 3 weeks since my initial visit and to my surprise my glasses are still not in. I ask her to speak to the manager and she asked why and I explained to her what I just typed above. Also reminding her that she never even called me back since yesterday. She puts me on hold and then says that my glasses just shipped from the lab. So all the other times I was told that they were coming in on Friday and Monday were a lie because they had not even shipped. I spoke with the manager but she didn't care. I have really bad dry eyes and I don't like wearing contacts for so long. I told the optometrist this. The customer service, communication and staff are incompetent. They can't answer basic questions and give incorrect information. I will not be returning here ever again. I would suggest you try eye care west optometry if you are looking for an optometrist in this area. They are a little busy but their customer service, communication and staff are awesome. Nothing like bad service to make you appreciate good service. read more

I only paid $196 for eye exam, frames (Ray Bans), and lenses!!!! but then again since i work at kohl's i had a 40% discount on the frames. I 100% recommend this optometry!!! read more

Both Dr. Chen and the assistant at the front desk (I didn't get her name) were very welcoming and patient! Dr. Chen took her time to answer all of my questions and address my concerns. Also, the assistant was VERY patient and helpful while I was picking out a new pair of glasses. I went through many pairs but she was so sweet and didn't rush me to make a decision. I came to Modern Eyes after work. I called in the morning to see if they took VSP and they were able to squeeze me in the same day. The staff was friendly and Alex went over my coverage, copay, and all my other questions regarding contacts. Dr. Chen was detailed and thorough in doing the exam and patient in answering questions. I would say the selection of frames at Modern Eyes was impressive (TOMS, Prada, Burberry, etc)...Iris made sure I did not feel rushed and wanted me to pick what I liked best. In the end, I went with 2 glasses and a year supply of contact lenses. All the fees were reviewed w/ me and there were no surprises. I was on the search for a high rated yelp Optometrist in Cerritos a few years back and had actually gone to one 4-5 times but was not happy with their standard two-hour appointments. I'd seen two different doctors from that office over the years, so, evidentally, it's just the way they operate. Finally, I decided that I could no longer afford to spend that much time at an optometrist visit (not counting frames selection), so what else could I do but yelp. I found Dr. Jack Kim and really liked his thorough half-hour appointments! Finally! When it was time for my recheck, I was bummed to learn that Dr. Kim was no longer there, but I went ahead and made the appointment with Dr. Jill Chen anyway. I was greeted by the very friendly assistant who had been helping my husband select a pair of glasses. She was so cute and gracious that she endured his showing pics of our first grandchild and pics of us in high school. :) Back to Dr. Chen. I was seen quickly. She was very thorough, efficient, although not rushed. After the standard vision checks, she addressed my red, dry eyes issue and asked what I used for my condition and asked if I regularly used sunglasses. No, I had been too lazy to use the eye lubricant drops or even the sunglasses on a regular basis. She informed me that each was important to use for the health of my eyes, being that my dry eyes needed the extra lubricant my eyes required and, also, the sunglasses will help protect the sun-damage incurred from years of abuse. Umm, sun-damage? Didn't know I had it. Well, actually, I think someone may have mentioned it, but Dr. Chen stressed the importance of being diligent about wearing sunglasses so that the sundamage doesn't worsen and grow into the brown part of my eye. Glad to know that. :) She easily makes her patient feel comfortable and confident that she knows her stuff. I'm so glad to have found her and also glad that I'm able to be seen in the time span of a lunch hour and with time to spare! yay! My husband likes her, too, and the selection of cool glasses frames. I order contacts and will be choosing sunglasses this week and can't wait to shop! read more

I called and got an appointment the next day with Dr. Chen. I felt comfortable with her and she was the first doctor to really explain what astigmatism is to me. I've been a patient of Dr's Kim's for about 4 years now and I feel like this is the best optometrist experience I've ever had. Dr. Kim is very nice and professional, and mostly of all, very thorough and knowledgeable in what he does. The staff members are all very nice and pleasant! I get my contacts here every year and update my frames and lenses here as well, and my husband also get contacts and once got really nice designer sunglasses here as well. Dr. Kim also takes walk-ins so that's very convenient if I forgot to schedule an appointment a head of time (which happens a lot). MEO has a very large selection of frames and I feel like him and his staff members go above and beyond to make sure you're needs are met! About a month and a half ago, I called and asked if they carried the new RayBans Wayfarer with the polarized lenses. The guy that worked there named Alex said yes! When I got there they didn't have it and he asked the optimist and apparently they don't know the difference between G-15 and polarized! So I took them and tried them out for a few days, which I was not satisfied! They have a 90 day exchange policy. Long story short, they told me that they were ordering some new glasses, I came back several times but they didn't have anything I liked! Finally the Rude blonde Mexican girl named Iris or Maria, or whatever her name is, said " we are not getting any new glasses for 3 months! So much wasted time going back and forth trying to get something I liked that I ended up just taking my glasses back!!I will not be referring any of my family there since they don't have very good knowledge about their products!!! And are very RUDE! They need to replace that girl!! read more
