She was told she couldn't afford a bedroom set and that she might be better off financing it. She refused to finance or charge it and paid with cash. This behavior felt discriminatory and unacceptable. We would have bought the sofa anyway, but we refused to deal with this level of service. Mattress Firm is better than most but Peter at the Ridgewood store is AMAZING. He calmly, politely and expertly helped my daughter replace her recently purchased mattress with one better suited to her sleeping habits and comfort level without breaking my credit card on the change fees and price. (Nothing against the original sales person at same store, this was my daughter's first bed purchase for her first apartment straight outta school and it just didn't work out after a few weeks.) Peter helped us in one language while also guiding a newly hired colleague on processes and engaging her clients in another language. Realizing my daughter was new to the area, he also suggested a few places to eat and shop for household basics.

Having dropped by for random things from microwaves to AC units to cords, I've always been approached by someone new practically every time. It might feel somewhat overwhelming for new patrons, but I've come to expect this sort of stuff. Unfortunately, the biggest plight that this location faces is usually the location. Not all the associates are going to be patient and informative, some feel like they're rushing folks without paying much attention to their needs.
