The 5 stars are well deserved for our photographer that we chose from Modern Image: John Strauss. He was so pleasant to have around ! John made the best of his time with us. From the minute he arrived, his great energy was appreciated - since we were running around like mad people. He was thorough the days leading up to the wedding and attempted greatly to keep us on track, with what we had previously discussed. He made great suggestions and really was efficient with decision making, pulling us out for alone time pics, respected our wishes and captured the greatest moments!! John Strauss was an amazing asset to our wedding. No one else would have done the perfect job as he did. Pay the extra fee to be able to choose your photographer from this place and pick John!! I did a ton of research on wedding photographers and really regret going with Modern Image Studios. While not everything goes according to plan during wedding planning, this is the only thing that my husband and I are still upset about. My cousin took BETTER and way more shots than he did. We met with the owner of the company who showed us pictures and asked about what we were looking for in a wedding photographer. We were also told we would have 2 photographers numerous times over email and phone. WELL, WE NEVER GOT THE 2 PHOTOGRAPHERS IN WRITING ON OUR CONTRACT SO WE COULDN'T USE THAT AS A REASON FOR A REFUND. BIZARRE THAT THEIR EMPLOYEES EMAILS DON'T MEAN ANYTHING. Our photographer was awful. While he did get a few good shots, we thought we would get a professional that would handle the photography for the day. We had 10 hours of him asking us what pictures we wanted. Um, isn't that what we are paying you for? And if someone looks out of place, aren't you supposed to make the picture look better? I was more than thorough telling our photographer what we wanted in writing and that day. He missed so many shots and we also have 1 picture of important things, such as my husband and his parents. Really?! How hard would it have been to take 2 shots of that?! And although we took staged shots with our families, I assumed he would have taken some candids later. Funny that there are hardly any pictures once we got to the reception! I have a few friends that used Modern Image and their pictures were great! And they had thousands of images compared to our less than 800! I guess I figured Modern Image Studios admitted they should have put us with a different photographer and had another photographer there to assist. Yet, with it being our wedding day, they couldn't do much I have to say that they did try to make up for the awful wedding pictures by giving us discounts on pictures, etc. We said no because we didn't need more pictures--we wanted pictures of our wedding day! After months of tears and back and forth fighting with Modern Image Studios, they finally gave us a small refund. Overall, I wish I would have spent three times as much money to deal with a reputatble photographer. I should not have had to spend my wedding day instructing an amateur on what to take and then being upset getting back less than stellar photos. I love getting a good deal but this was not worth it. *One thing that really annoyed me about this company was that they put out sign-in sheets on the tables for people to sign-up for our pictures when they were available. This is pretty trashy to me and I did not want my pictures shared with everyone. **I used a videographer from this company and that turned out fantastic. The videographer captured so much of our wedding day so it even made it more obvious that the photographer was out of it. This is the only reason they get 2 stars in my book! read more

It's true what they say. You get what you pay for. There's a reason that Modern Image is cheaper than other reputable and skilled companies. The quality of their staff is subpar, or to put it more colloquially, their photogs suck hairy donkey nutsacks. This in turn can end up ruining your most important day as a married couple. In our case, we initially got some flaky hack who used crappy equipment to take washed out engagement pictures. Then, two days before the wedding the hack informed us she couldn't make our wedding, and Modern Image ensured us they would provide an adequate replacement who had "at least 10 years experience shooting weddings" Beyond the annoyance of having someone we didn't even know photograph us on our wedding day, we were really pissed when we actually met the photographer and realized that he couldn't have "at least 10 years" experience because he was just 25 years old. The guy wasn't familiar with any shooting locations near our wedding site, had no eye for spontaneous shots, and one of the groomsmen (who happened to be a design major) had to give him advice on shot staging. That really showed when we finally (after months of waiting) saw our wedding proofs. The shots were poorly framed, tilted, contained shadows, and barely met to the standard of having your drunk uncle go at it with a Polaroid. Additionally, the proofs were provided to us initially weren't in chronological order, so we couldn't compare similar shots to pick the best one without scrolling all around the set. When we finally picked out an album, it didn't arrive within their projected time frame. When we finally called them after waiting months for our album, they told us that the album had been delayed for some unknown reasons. It took us nearly 4 months from the time we created our album to when we got a hard copy in our hands. All in a debacle of an experience. We went with Modern Image because we were determined to stay within our budget and photos weren't as important to us as other parts of our wedding. However, it photos were important to us, we'd be really pissed because the visual mementos of the day we became husband and wife are craptacular. Please people, don't be fooled by the minimalist-chic wannabe decor of their office space. Going here is the equivalent of going with the guy selling fish out of an unmarked van rather than Whole Foods; you may save some money up front but you end up regretting it in the end. read more

I used them form my 3/08 wedding for videography only....and was terribly disappointed! My husband didn't want to spend the money for a videographer but my sister used them for her 11/05 wedding and the video was amazing. I loved everything about their video and expected to have the same. I sobbed when we got our video back! The images we have given them for the intro were blurry, you couldn't see our faces during the vows, my face was blocked by flowers for the toasts, there were no shots of the sweets table, photo booth or late night sliders! I was heart broken! When I called to complain I got a series of excuses about, the digital files we sent were too small (so then they should have let me know and I would have sent different pics for the intro), the church had restrictions on where to stand (I've seen other videos from the same church and they were able to get a good shot), the centerpiece was in the way of the head table (she had NO restrictions on where to stand during the reception or could have moved the centerpiece!), as for the photo booth, sweets table and sliders...she claimed she didn't see them (total LIE because I have a picture of her in the photo booth with the video camera!!!!!) Anyway, they did "redo" the video and give us extra copies, but there wasn't much improvement. While I'm glad we have the video, it still upsets me that it wasn't what I expected. read more

Update: This review has been updated in dealing with Modern Image after the wedding. Before the wedding, they were quick to respond, and very accommodating. We've been working with them since February 2006 and their prices are probably one of the best around the Chicagoland area for the quality and quantity that they offer. Their wedding package also comes with either a free engagement session or a $400 credit towards one of their amazing photo albums. Our photographer was amazing, Peter Coombs. However, working with Modern Image quickly turned into a headache after the wedding. We were told that the $400 was either towards a photo album or engagement session - NO WHERE in our original paperwork did it say anything about our negatives. In fact, it says that we will get a proof cd. Now, before the wedding, we did an engagement photo session (because our original photographer suddenly developed a vomiting disorder) and we were also promised a proof cd. We received that and it was negatives, so we assumed that our wedding proof cd would be the same thing. Now, it is 4 months after the wedding, and we finally received a cd but it wasn't proof/negatives - it was a flipping slideshow of our photos. Modern Images was very deceiving and difficult to work with in correcting this problem. I would suggest - go contact Peter Coombs and hire him individually and go print your photos out elsewhere. He's the main reason why they even got a second star. I'm very disappointed with Modern Images and regret referring them to anyone else. read more

Terrible. Customer service is nonexistent. We initially met with Bethany, who was the only bright star in the whole of dealing with Modern Images. Unfortunately, she was booked already and couldn't shoot our wedding. Our photographer was fine...good enough. We weren't thrilled with the end results, though. We wished he was more "Take Charge" about it. I feel like he waited for us to tell him what he should be taking pictures of. Myself and the Groom had a meeting about it a couple of weeks before the event so it was surprising to see him so laid back and not intuitive about it. Many of our photos were shot with the wedding party squinting into the sun or having a parking lot in the background instead of the city skyline, which was what we asked for. Just blah and disappointing. What really has been the kick in the gut with Modern Images is all the post-wedding mismanagement of our photos and album. The company inexplicably shut down for 2 .5 months with no word until this February. It was only then that I learned that the album I created in November hadn't been touched and I'd have to wait an additional 6-8 weeks just for proofs. Got the proofs a month later and they are terrible. Very hokey and slapped together. A freshman graphics major could do a better job with Photoshop. Hell, I am redoing our album with Shutterfly. The amount of money, time, energy, and minutes wasted on-hold have completely soured me on Modern Images. I feel silly to have recommended the company to friends after our wedding...now I will happily tell anyone willing to listen how terrible this service and company is, if only to spare another bride from feeling like an important day wasn't caught on camera. What can I say that hasn't been said here? The pros: Our photographer, Peter Coombs, was TOP NOTCH. I went with him after seeing his portfolio and after the glowing Yelp reviews. He was phenomenal and it made choosing photos for our album quite difficult! (See my review on Peter Coombs Photography) Our videographer was GREAT. We had a full Catholic Mass and he managed to edit it so tastefully as to keep all the key parts and readings from friends, etc. We chose the music and he set it beautifully. It is a great memento to have of our day. The cons: When we met with them on our first consultation to make a deposit and sign the contract, I specifically asked them about getting the negatives afterward. We were told that after a year they would be released to us. My husband wrote that in the margin of our copy of the contract and I felt confident in our decision. This turned out to be false. You can get your digital negatives....if you fork out $400. Had I known this up front, I would never have gone with them. This was not what we were told and I will maintain that until the day I die. I was very disappointed with the 'post wedding' process and mostly with being misled about my negatives. read more

We selected Modern Image to do our video only. Brian Babrick was really great.... you can really tell he enjoys what he does. He captures the video footage of the wedding day with the insight of how it can be used in the actual edited video. He makes sure not to miss anything. He even hung out of the moving limo a few times to capture DH & I standing through the sunroof with the city skyline in the background. We were also impressed how Brian continuously did various checks throughout the day and night to ensure he was able to film in the different environments. Post-wedding, they were pretty good to work with. The turn around time for getting our video was pretty quick. There were some corrections & changes that were necessary. They made the changes in a tiemly matter and didnt give us any problems. Overall a good experience. read more

We shopped around with MANY photographers, and majority either didn't have the quality or were way too expensive. 2 stars?? What?! It seems like a lot of the reviews that are counting towards Modern Images are several years old -- and a lot of the more recent reviews are filed under the "not recommended" section. But I'm here to Totally recommend Modern Images to anyone searching for wedding photography! This did an Awesome job for us at my September 2014 wedding :) Despite my efforts as a romantic sap for wedding videos -- and Gerry the person we met with from Modern Images who is a big advocate for it -- my fiancé didn't want to add videography so we only used Modern Images for an 8 hour photography package. We went with the package that let us choose our photographer. We watched 3 different (and available for our wedding date) photographers work in slideshows and narrowed it down to 2, then let Gerry help us decide based on my want for a photographer who wouldn't need direction from me. I wanted cool, creative photos, but had no interest in making a Pinterest page for them to follow all day..and taking 25 attempts at a jumping picture. Just not my thing! I wanted a photographer who would give us directions, even be a little assertive if needed...and do good work. We had Julie Valkanet and she did an Awesome job!! We opted for an engagement session instead of photo album (I need a post-wedding project anyway ;)) so we could get to know Julie and how she takes pictures. We didn't really know what she was doing at time -- holding tree leaves in front of the camera and stuff like that -- but the engagement pictures turned out Great! We loved her creativity right away, and left that session knowing our wedding was in good hands. Ahh, one worry off the list! For the wedding day, we opted for a second photographer for 4 hours to help free up Julie for the fun, creative stuff -- not taking pictures of centerpieces. Julie was with us all day and was great about seeing the opportunity to get pictures without any cues from me which was perfect. We just got back our wedding pictures this week, so just shy of a 4 week turn around, and we love them! Kelly -- who is SO sweet and friendly and easy to work with for communications about booking, payment, those kinds of things -- sent us a sneak peak slideshow like 2.5 weeks out and I cried in the Halloween candy aisle at Target as I watched it. It was a great surprise to come home to after the honeymoon :) Overall, our experience was great with Modern Images. They have a location in Lincoln Park (not just the burbs like Yelp says) to meet with you inside Black Tie Formalwear which was convenient as we got the tuxes there too! And the price was comparable to other photography companies like this that have several photographers to choose from. I'd pick Julie and Modern Images all over again no doubt :) read more

This review is LONGGGGGGGGGGGG OVERDUE!!!!!!!!... My wife and I got married 11/4/2011. Gerry, Meg and Kyle W. were THE GREATEST!.... After searching and searching, interviewing and reviewing other photographers we decided to go with Modern Image. The initial consultation with Gerry made us feel VERY comfortable and at home (Very nice décor). We viewed actual albums as well as several photographer's works. We chose Kyle W. for his clean eye and diversity of shots, we immediately put down our deposit. A couple of days before the event we went over the day with Kyle. The day of, he showed up ON TIME and well dressed. He shot the girls then us as planned. During the services, he was "out-of-the-way". Didn't disturb the services and was very accommodating (which the Pastor loved). We left the church, hustled to the reception site and again he pretty much blended in with everything and everyone. He suggested a couple of shots on the roof of the Hotel (one of the shots was chosen to participate in a sweepstake). I even used the photo in making our 1 year anniversary gift to my wife. All of the shots turned out wonderful. We had a hard time deciding on which ones to include in the album. Our parents even received mini albums with our package and our mothers loved them.... If I had to do it again (which I hope is NEVER). But IF I had to would go with Modern Image in A HEARTBEAT!. Thanks again guys for making our special day that much more special. Mr. A. read more

I want to start this review by saying I did not actually hire Modern Image Studios because my fiancé and I decided to go with a friend's studio for our wedding. I am reviewing my interaction with the studio in the initial phases. I worked with Kelly R. and asked multiple questions about the photographers and the packages. They were really quick to answer all of my concerns. They had some really awesome photographers available for our day. It was a pleasure dealing with this company over email and in person at their office in Schaumburg. They had some good packages and good prices available and the albums looked really cool. I was very pleased with the service we have received from Modern Image. From Susan Rees, the Kelly Morel, to Margaret White, the customer service was outstanding. Our photographer, Jeff Owen, also did out engagement shots. He was quick, but was able to get the shots he needed and they turned out great. We spoke a few days before the wedding to go over details. He was over 30 minutes early, which was awesome, because it allowed us more time to get the posed shots. Again, he was able to get in, get the shot, and move on. Once we hit the dance floor, I didn't even notice him, but he got some great shots. About a week after my wedding, he even sent a 7 min sneak peek video of some of the highlights from the day - and the pictures were georgous! He had a great personality, adn the company did a good job mtaching him with us. We also had the photo booth live at our wedding, which was some of the best money we spent. Jessica, who ran the booth, was so good with all the children who were taking pictures early and dealt well with the long lines! Our videographer was very non-intrusive and worked hard. He was all over the place getting the shots and hardly stopped to take a breath. I cannot wait to see the video and the rest of the pictures. I would reccommend them to anyone looking and plan on going back in the future for "family" shots. read more

I hired Modern Image for their videography services for my August 09 wedding. I have a couple gripes with them. Our videographer was LATE and missed a key moment of our wedding day... in addition, the audio for a significant portion of the speeches during our reception was muddled and barely understandable. Although we still enjoy our video and are glad we opted to hire a videographer, if I could do it over again I would keep looking and not get swayed by the lower prices at Modern Image. I was excited when I chose Modern Image Studios as our photography company for our wedding, as their prices seemed fair and their samples photos were gorgeous. Unfortunately I have been nothing but disappointed with the service and the product before, during, and after the wedding. Our photographer was impossible to reach before our wedding (via phone or email), and we ended up not being able to have our engagement session, which we had paid for, since we couldn't get in touch with her to schedule it in time. I was feeling iffy about the photographer after this so I spoke with a manager who assured me she would be responsible and dependable for the wedding. I asked for a meeting with the photographer and when she showed up she was 20 minutes late, called my fiancée Matt (his name is TJ), and was dressed as if she just came from the beach - I could even see her bathing suit straps under her tank top and a tiny jean skirt. Very unprofessional. On our wedding day she was very passive, not present for important moments, and overall very unimpressive. My bridesmaid got almost the same amount of shots as the photographer for whom we paid almost $2,000.00. And many of my bridesmaid's shots were even better than the "professional" shots. After the wedding, the company did a poor job of addressing my concerns, and I am currently still in the midst of working out a way to apply my $200 account credit (which we received for the engagement session that never happened). They continue to have staff show up late for appointments and show an overall lack of interest in their clients' happiness. What I CAN say is that they have never been outright rude or blatantly inappropriate (and that is the BEST thing I can find to say about this company). Their level of service is FAR below what it should be, leaving me feeling gipped and jilted. I would never recommend this company to anyone. read more

I wish we could do zero starts for this place. Everyone was nice until it was time to deliver. The potographer was great and the pictures were nice. The problem was that when it was time for a our wedding album it took for forever to get correspondence back and forth. Then to top it off once we completed our album and submitted it magically disappeared. Now they have changed vendors and you can no longer build your own album. So now we have no album, and can't pick our album. Also the want to charge us 85 dollars a page vs. 25 which was the original cost when we did submit our album. I will never use them again and would never recommend them to anyone. read more

TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE. If I could have given ZERO STARS, I would have. While our photographer was top-notch, the customer service was horrible enough for me to never ever recommend this place to even my worst enemy. Not only did they screw up our free engagement picture--which we were forced to print ourselves at Walgreens the night before our wedding--when we finally got our wedding album months later, there were pictures that were upside down, faces/heads were cut off, there were scratches on the photos, and some of the matting was torn. When alerted to this problem, they expected me to drive all the way back to Downers Grove to drop the thing back off (I live in downtown Chicago). Then they promised to call me back to arrange a pick-up. After several days of nothing, I finally called them. It has been well over 4 months since they picked it up and I STILL DO NOT HAVE MY WEDDING ALBUM! They promised me that I would have it before the holidays. When I called them yesterday, they told me they were going to start working on it right away and it would be ready to be picked up by the end of the week. Not exactly what I was expecting to hear. And it looks like I get to make another trip to the suburbs. Fantastic. But maybe my maid of honor will at least have a face in this album and maybe the church will be right-side-up. I'm not holding my breath, though. Save yourself a whole lot of unnecessary stress and go anywhere but to this studio. read more

MODERN IMAGE DELETED OUR WEDDING VIDEO.This is not an exaggeration or a lie. I really wish I had written this review sooner, but I was in the midst of other family emergencies so it fell to the wayside. I was reminded when I heard of the company again. Everyone considering hiring them needs to read this review. My husband and I hired Modern Image for our wedding in the summer of 2010. We hired them for photography and for video. We allocated most of our budget for this, cutting back in other places (cake from Walmart, flowers self-done from costco) and we hired two photographers and added hours on to our video. It was so important to have preserved footage of our special day. The photos: I spoke with photographer beforehand, and told him we wanted photojournalistic style with very little posed pictures. Day of, photographer forced my family and bridal party to pose for pictures, at the house, at the church, everywhere. We ended up having 90% posed pictures and when I told him I wanted to stop, he insisted on "just a few more," and also yelled at my bridal party. To top it off, we have about 20 total useable pictures of just myself and my husband together. So much for wedding portraits. I wrote to the company and they agreed-it was an awful job and they would compensate me with extra albums...of disappointing pictures. The video: I received a phone call 4 months after our wedding saying there was a delay because they "could not find" part of our video. After several more days, I was told it was lost, deleted off the hard drive. I can't begin to tell you how devastated I was. This "part" was of our introductions, first dance, father daughter dance, mother son dance, all the toasts, cake cutting, all the way through the end of the night. We spent thousands on a venue (Patrick Haley Mansion) that we will never be able to revisit. I asked for the raw footage and it was only then that I discovered that the rest of the footage, from before the ceremony, after the ceremony and during the photoshoots had absolutely no sound. Another error that resulted in the loss of our memories forever. Compensation for this included only $500 and flying us back to home for a poor attempt to recreate the day of 9 months later. They did not pay our venue and WE had to tip the kind staff who kept our venue open for us during the reshoot. They also would not contribute to any other costs for the reshoot. When I asked the company for further compensation (a refund of my video money), the owner told me of his own personal and professional troubles and rudely told me there would be no further compensation. I ended up not even receiving the compensation I was promised with the photos. We spent thousands with this company to preserve the memory of our special day. Regardless of compensation, we can never get back what they took from us. Do not make the same mistake we did and entrust them with your wedding day. read more

I didn't use there service because of poor service at the beginning. We meet with Clayton Price for our consultation. He seemed to be great and professional and knew what he was talking about. We thought we would book with him, even though my fiance's sister had huge problems with a photographer, Peter Coombs and their mom said not to choose them. He told us Peter no longer shoots for the company, so we thought they would be trying to make things better. Well, Clayton said he would send us the proofs to a wedding of two different photographers in the next day or two so we could choose one and sign the contract. Weks went by and we didn't here from him. We took that as a sign not to use them and listen to my mother in law to be. We did find a great photographer and studio - Jolie Images - check them out! After we booked with Jolie Images, Clayton sent us the link to one of the photographers and said the one we really wanted was booked. Thanks for sending the links on time! We will not refer anyone to this company with the experience we had and my fiance's sister's issues with them previously. No Thanks!!! read more

We had a great experience with Modern Image Studios and we absolutely LOVED our photographer, Bethany Fritz. We had a few crazy things happen during our wedding day, but Bethany was the best!! The biggest test came when our limo driver backed out on us at the last minute. Our ceremony ran late and instead of taking us to our scheduled photo locations after the ceremony, he abruptly told us he couldn't take us anywhere else and basically just dropped us off in front of our reception hall in downtown Chicago. Despite having no transportation, Bethany told us not to worry and didn't miss a beat. She has a great eye and was able to find such creative and unique places all within a few blocks walking distance of our reception site. Plus, the pictures she took all came back so beautifully that we didn't even mind not going to our previously selected locations! We really couldn't have been happier. Bethany is truly talented and was such a pleasure to work with. She had such a great sense of humor and felt like an old friend by the time the night was over. We were extremely happy with her and Modern Image Studios and would definitely recommend them. read more

We used Modern Image for our June 2010 wedding and had no problems with them whatsoever. Our photographer, John Straus, did an AMAZING job and we now have some of the best photographs ever taken of my husband and I proudly displayed in our home. One of our wedding photos was even published in the November 2010 Chicago Woman's Magazine. John listed to everything my husband and I wanted and then came up with some great ideas of his own. From our engagement photo shoot at Medinah Country Club to dragging John all over Chicago for location shots on our actual wedding day, John was top notch! Choosing photos for our wedding album was very difficult as there were so many great ones to pick from and just not enough pages to display them all. We searched several other photographers prior to going with Modern Image and the total cost was by far, considerablly less than others we had considered yet the quality was equal to, if not better than the more expensive options. We did not go with a wedding video, so I can not give a review of that, but as far as pictures go, we had a great experience. New ownership compensated us and genuinely took care of our problems to the best of their ability so I would still recommend Modern Image to others for quality photography services. They recently changed owners this past year (2010) and we had a similarly terrible experience with previous management's customer service after the wedding regarding our photos. Even worse was trying to get a hold of anyone to correct the problems we had ongoing for 6 months until new ownership took over. On the plus side, our video turned out AMAZING and it is something we will cherish forever. It is cinema quality...I definitely recommend you upgrade to the Blu Ray, because the DVD quality on our Hi-Def TV didn't look very good. But the Blu Ray is excellent and the DVD for our parents to watch looks just fine on their standard definition T.V. The day of our wedding, our photographer (Mike) was very professional, listened to us, and took many excellent photographs and offered some great scenic compositions. He even brought an assistant to capture extra angles. The videographer was great too, staging the scenes, giving us tips, directing our wedding party where to go. Highly recommend for Modern Image for video. One tip: be sure to be very selective of the photographer you choose based on their portfolio. Everyone has a different style - however our photos turned out to our liking, similar to the portfolio we were shown in our consultation. read more

My wedding photographer 02/2013 took all of my wedding party photos with a wide lens causing extreme stretching of my wedding party and family photos on the edges of all picture. I have been told this can be fixed in photoshop. As a graphics teacher - this is a truly disappointment because I know they can not recover my friends and families faces to their truest form or retake the pictures they way they should have been take on the happiest day of my life. I have asked for a refund on my albums I pre purchased and amazingly they stopped responding to my requests. I have yet to receive my video but I am extremely scared at this point. Funny, we wanted Peter Coombs, but he was unavailable shortly after we visited. We would've went with Modern Image, we liked their pressure free presentation, but out of the 3 portfolios we saw, Peter Coombs was the best by far. read more

On our wedding back in October 9th, my wife and I made a point that we checked all the vendors in the area. Our first stop was Modern Imaging and they were our LAST. From the equipment to the artistry of the photographer, he made us look like a million bucks. Due to unfortunate circumstances, Jeff didn't have that much time to take pictures at the church but he quickly got everyone together and took both sides of the family (even combined) in almost 5 minutes. One of the best parts of Jeff's work was that he was able to catch EVERY moment. Although we wanted a lot of candid photos, we did not want them to be manufactured like how some other establishments would do. Also, Jeff did a great job combining the natural light with his surroundings. Lastly, he was a ton of fun to work with. Although we were a bunch of crazy 25 year olds getting married, Jeff was able to mesh well with the group where any Bridesmaid or Groomsman was comfortable into asking him to take a particular picture. FOR THE LADIES, Jeff does a great job making sure the train of your dress looks great and presentable for the camera... I have professionally worked with Modern Images for years and I knew on my big day, they were the team for me. From the fabulous pricing to the quality you get for it, there is no need to look any further. Going through the experience firsthand, I saw again just how wonderful they really are. The in studio meeting was great. We saw a few photographers they thought met my style and they were right, Doru is just such a gem, a creative extreme talent! Kelly is so prompt, personable and fun to work with and once contracted, Meg was a rock star making sure all was perfect for my big day. I sent a few schedules in addition to their very detailed online pre-event survey and she graciously accepted them and answered any last minute questions. We went with Modern Images for our photo and video. I have got to say Koudos to our photographer Bethany Fritz and I believe our videographer was Joe. He was really quiet and behind the scenes, but that's how the videographer is supposed to be, right.? Well we just received our wedding video and all I can say is THANK-YOU for doing such a fantastic job. Trust me the tears were rolling down my cheeks when I was able to relive the moment of my wedding day. Bethany was great too. Hello, This is my first YELP review but felt the service I received from Modern Image Studios was worth the effort. My fiance and I (now wife) were researching & planning the classic, big catholic wedding. Choosing the right photographer was the biggest challenge. Every one had friends, "of friends", that were photographers. Many didn't return calls, were to "artistic", too expensive, or just rude on the phone. We read a review for Modern Image and contacted the Downers Grove office (yes, they have an office and promptly answer phones!). From the first meeting & all follow-up communications, the overall experience was courteous, helpful, and professional. The photographer we selected (Claudiu) worked out extremely well. He was on-time, creative, and very accommodating. His approach & demeanor throughout the pre-wedding, wedding, & reception was discreet. We received numerous comments on the natural quality of his photographs. They all appeared candid & not staged (insert bride/groom here pics). After reviewing the pics, my wife & I commented numerous times "wow, I didn't know he took that pic". He caught all the special moments via the lens. I hope you find this review helpful. Update: 2/4/13 It has been a year and a half since our wedding and I recently contacted the studio to get a DVD with some of our wedding images in a slideshow format. They quickly got back to me and were able to create a great DVD and ship it to me within the month. I was happy that they continued to uphold our relationship long after the wedding date had passed. read more

I have to say that I was very dissatisfied with the quality of the photos, lack of professionalism and empty promises made by Modern Image I got a really bad feeling about this company the day of our wedding, when Joe our photographer told me "This makes my job so much easier when I shoot a bride that looks really good" I could not believe my ears!!!!!!! It's my wedding day! I've hired you to capture this moment, not to make sleazy comments about how I look!!! Very rude and unprofessional!!!! 90 days have passed after our wedding and we have our photos on a disc that needed major retouching and still no wedding video! We were told that 90 days after our wedding we would have our video and I was still going back and forth with emails and owner Gerry because every time they would "edit"the images of bridal party, they seemed to not know what they were doing! These pictures looked horrible!! It took them 4 times to get the editing correct!!! We paid a lot of money to have good quality photos and in the end it was a waste of money! That same week I put a review on the knot.com and immediately received a call from the owner Gerry asking if I could take it down. I told him how upset I was and was told he would try to do his best to make us happy and get us our album if I took posting down. It was a big mistake on our part for actually trusting him and removing comment. He still had not done a thing to make this situation any better. Recently we were offered 1/2 off discount by owner Gerry, then he suddenly took back what he said, when I had called to set up payment!!! Theres no communication here with this co and nothing trustworthy either. BE VERY CAUTIOUS ABOUT BOOKING WITH MODERN IMAGE!!! If you choose to do so, get all the album details upfront because after the wedding the fees will begin!!! read more

Our photographer Jeff Owen definitely deserves 5 stars, he was completely amazing to work with!! Jeff made us feel so comfortable and really listened to the ideas we had for certain pictures. He also got some incredible shots from just looking at our surroundings, overall we were very impressed!! We just got married in mid-December and less than two weeks after our wedding Jeff sent a preview of some pictures that looked great! We haven't seen the rest yet, or had to work with Modern Image staff other than Jeff to order prints or do anything like that, so we can't really comment on the rest of the operation, but we would highly recommend working with Jeff. read more

Our photographer Rachel Owens was amazing. Although we did not meet her until the day of our wedding because she was doing a photo shoot in California. We communicated via email almost every day and she gave me the break down of all the photos she would capture, and photos that I requested and actually got all of the pictures that we wanted. The Customer service was good we had no problems, when we sent an email they responded back to us right away. I was also pleased with how fast we were able to see our wedding pictures, about two weeks after the wedding the pictures were posted which was so convenient. Words cannot describe how disappointed I was and still am with this company. Long story short, our photographer, Julie, was wonderful on our wedding day. Then everything took a turn for the worst. I will admit that I did not meet the deadline to send my photo choices in for my album. However I did pay the additional $250 charge. Let's just say I'm still waiting for album and my wedding was on July 16, 2011!!! I have emailed and phoned multiple times. Meg's customer service was decent, but didn't make anything happen. Kelly's customer service on the other hand is non-existent. She is rude and doesn't follow through. I did appreciate a personal call from Jerry the owner, however he did not help speed things along either. I have paid a total of $2050 and still have yet to receive my two albums. I am extremely upset with Modern Image Studios. We made our decision to go with Modern Image based on the low price for photography and videography. We learned after the wedding that the introductory price was just that, phony. We have been charged for adding 6 photos to the album (they only give 45 photos to start with) at $10 a photo, we would have had to pay $100 for the LINK to the wedding video highlights (we obviously did not pay for this), it was additional $220 to add the parent albums, additional $150 to change the format of the DVD from BluRay to regular, and the list goes on. After all was said and done, we should have went with a different photographer who would have offered us all of these items as part of the package. Our photographer was extremely nice and has great shots but this has been clouded by the company itself. I received my album preview and there were at least 5 photos in the album that I did not pick and a couple of the pages included the same photo. It is just very frustrating. I would recommend to not look at the introductory price when making your decision about a wedding photographer. Independent photographers are more personable and willing to work with you rather than charge you $150 for nonsense. I hope no one makes the same mistake we did. read more

AWFUL! There is simply no other word. My video is terrible, and even AFTER I complained about it and was assured it would be fixed, it remains exactly the same. I would NEVER recommend and sadly HATE watching the video I paid for. It is awful and makes me angry. PLEASE, go somewhere better. read more
