I have been going here for a few months now after being highly recommended by two friends who have been seeing Sheila for over 8 years. She is hands down the best I've ever had do my nails. I get dip nails and they last 3 weeks without pulling up, peeling, chipping etc. She keeps them thin and gives me the best nail set! I've also had multiple pedicures here by the other ladies and get the best service. My gel pedicure holds up great and love how my toes look and how soft my feet are. They recently repainted and it's so clean and nice and now had a refreshed brighter look with the new paint. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Always a great place with the kindest staff who all do great nails and pedicures.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Not priced too high and worth the cost. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The manager Sheila of this salon is amazingly rude. After 2 interactions with her I can tell you that her attitude is not for the weak.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I double confirmed my appointment & arrived within 8min of the start time. She had put someone in her chair and was just starting someone else's nails. Which took the hour i had to get a mani pedi to almost 3 hours. The pedicure lady had tried to do the classic trick of starting the color 2mm from the cuticle making it look grown out before i even swiped my card. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Sheila also seemed to not understand the color i wanted was a simple sheer pink, it took 15 min of pushback from her before the application was even started.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]They all talk about you in their native tounge which they think I didn't understand.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] However I am writing this review because I can & I did. Gave them 2 tries. [[HIGHLIGHT]]My service was rushed and I didn't enjoy my time there at all :([[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Callus removal was a part of my pedicure and they attempted it but because of the RUSHED service my heels were still rough and they usually get smooth. I just moved to this area and still in search of my nail salon. I do not recommend this place and will not go back. And no I did not make a reservation with this name because I used my middle name to do so. read more

I needed a pedicure real bad, and ask one of the receptionists at the hotel I was staying at (Hyatt House North- which will also receive a high rating) for a recommendation. She said she goes to Modern Nails, so i went with it! It was about 45 minutes til they open, but u gave them a call to see if I needed to make an appointment. To my surprise she was ok with me coming earlier than 10, so we headed that way! By far the worst manicure I've ever had. Pedicure was okay but my nails were just horrible. Chips, bubbles in the polish, cuticle looked terrible and had polish on them. This owner/manager/scheduler at this business does not seem to value a client's time. Four of us had 2 pm appointments on a Monday. We were on our way when they called at 1:30 to ask if we could wait until 2:15-2:20. We arrived at 2:15 and were not seated in a chair until 2:30. Finally, at 2:45, a tech was available to start one of us and then at 2:50, two other techs became available. A 4th tech was still not available at 3 so I chose not to get a pedicure. It seems as if they accepted walk-ins that worked into our appointment times. Waiting 45 minutes to an hour after your appointment time is completely unacceptable to me given the abundance of nail salons around. We won't return, but I will give a shout out to Kelly (one of the nail techs) who was the most professional of all. read more

I came here yesterday because a friend recommended this place . NEVER AGAIN. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The nail tech sat me down and it was clear she was having a bad day[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] . When I told her I didn't like the shape of my nails she said "I don't know what your problem is" and when I asked her to fix it she says "Will you just let me do my job?!" The manager stepped in and tried to de-escalate the situation, and my nail tech waived her hand at me as if to say, "Get out of here" Absolutely unacceptable. If I'm paying for a service , I'm allowed to ask for what I want . Point blank period . Will not be coming back here Or recommending this place ! read more

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Sheila is the absolute BEST technician I've ever encountered.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] She owns the place, answers phone, does all dips and most technical nail work and schedules, takes pay from everyone and basically picks up where she left off, never wondering where she left off if distracted. The distractions can be a bit much, but every time I get perfect nails, and it's worth every penny. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I've never met someone like her. We don't chit-chat. This is definitely my favorite nail salon in the Scottsdale area. Orchid always does an outstanding job with her designs. With Valentine's Day around the corner she definitely impressed me with this beautiful heart French tip design. Orchid then topped it off with a chrome to make it look even better!!! Just got my nails done for the first time in AZ and was recommended Modern Nails & Lash. Beautiful salon and comfy furniture, I really enjoyed my time here. My friend has been seeing Sheila for a while now and has always talked her up so I went in for SNS/dip. Sheila is confident and a sweetheart, and her work did not disappoint. My nails are not bulky and they're all even, two things I always have a hard time with when getting this type of nail work. And for my pedi is gel (sorry I forgot the lady name but she is very sweet). I came here for the second time & the service was horrible. I understand staffing situation but I went through 3 different employees not by choice which is fine, whatever. The final person who did my nails - I specifically stated I wanted hard gel, I have been doing hard gel for a year which has made my nails grow so nicely, perfect length & healthy nails. This lady proceeded to use ACRYLIC POWDER. I told her 3 times I want hard gel stop using acrylic powder she then began to basically insult my nails by telling me they grow weird hard gel isn't good for my nails and that acrylic is cheaper??? I think I know my nails better lady. Anyways, I won't be back here especially since my hard for work perfect nails went down the drain. If anyone knows how complex taking care of your nails & nailbed is will understand my frustration. read more

We just moved from California and we love Modern nails! We have the BEST nail dresser now. Her name is queen! Hands down the best nail salon in north Scottsdale! I was beyond impressed. I absolutely love Queen she is the best! My daughter and I always look forward to our appointments with her! She is so good at nails she can do any shape or design. Very Disdapointing. Had an appointment and was bumped for a client running late. I had a upset with the receptionist. Was asked to wait 45 minutes. I had spent over 600 a month in services and tips. Was asked to come back. Emily said she didn't want to do my lash extensions or mails. I tipped her well. $20 For each service. Last appointment was disappointing. As she did not want to do service over a staff error.lashes were slipped on. Paid $55 dollars. Two days later cost me more to the services redone. I do not recommend this establishment. read more

My second time there a year and a half apart cause my regular nail tech was booked so this place was my backup. I went for a simple ombre and from the pictures that is not worth 70$. Unblended, patchy and thick. Told the tech that it needs to be blended and she said it'll look better with top coat. Not the worse i had but definitely not worth the price and you would expect a better job with a higher price not average. read more

One of the worst "manicures" I've received. I'm not one to yelp anything much because I'm also in the service industry but I'm not happy, and they had no intentions of trying to make it better. I got SNS, a French manicure. They are SO spotted and cloudy, not to mention uneven and rough. I sat in my car for about 10 minutes before deciding to go back and see what they could do, because I felt bad for complaining. When I came in I said I wasn't happy with them without asking what was wrong she said they could redo them. Fair. However I didn't have time for them to be redone considering I'd just spent close to 2 hours there already. I asked if they could file them down so they were at least even. When she finally did ask to see my nails she said that's how they look with the dip, cloudy and spotted, and I should have gotten a pink underneath. I asked why I wasn't told that when I asked for a French manicure. I didn't get a answer. So I got them filed so they were at least even, and a little less rough, was not offered any type of refund. Oh also, when you get manicures here they don't trim your cuticles, so hopefully the oil they put on them is enough for you. My pedicure looks good though! Only reason for the two stars. read more

This salon is under new management as of May 2021. I followed my tech here from Super Paulene Nails on the Basha's center on Bell and Thompson Peak. I'm so glad I found her because Lyn is the best; and the new owner, Sheila is great as well. Kevin is also very very good. read more

I've gone to so many nail salons in the Scottsdale area and I always have issues with my nails chipping and breaking. I'm so excited I have found Lyn! She does such a great job with SNS that my nails look perfect for weeks. I finally have to come in because they get too long, but other than that they still look perfect. She is great at helping me pick out colors, which is always such a hard decision for me. I do make an appointment because they are usually busy, but they will also accommodate me if I need something last minute. They are a little more expensive, but worth it! read more

Tracy does an amazing job with SNS manicure and Ritchie is really good with pedicures. I've tried this place multiple times and have gotten good customer service and results for the most part. Getting an appointment is never an issue and prices are pretty comparable to other nail salons in the area. read more

Always in a rush, horrible attitudes, cannot do designs, quality of work is awful. I've given this place many of tries since I live so close, and I am always left disappointed. Worst experience by far was paying $80 for a gel pedicure and then soaking my feet for nothing longer than 2 minutes. Their only focus is the paint job and collecting your money. I'd like full services and attention paid to cuticles/ callus removal, etc! Feels like I can do a better job at home. read more

Just moved here from California and I'm so glad I found Tracy at modern nails! From the moment I walk in it's a beautiful clean environment and very welcoming everyone is very nice and accommodating! Every time I come to Tracy she makes my nails look absolutely beautiful! She really takes her time to make them look perfect and I really appreciate her hard work and detail! I was able to make an appointment same day & was fortunate enough to get an appointment 20 mins later. I saw Hannah & she was very nice & efficient. It was a quick appointment. She did a good job. The wax didn't hurt & left minimal redness. She offered a cooling agent or moisturizer when she was done & I declined. I never do because I'm always concerned about an allergic reaction so out of caution I always decline. I don't have any personal experience with their products beyond the wax. Truly, the redness wasn't that bad & went away fairly quickly. It's cashless checkout which is fine as that seems to be the way most places are going these days. I was given the sales pitch for buying a package of waxes. It's not a monthly subscription, simply a package of waxes. I declined not because it wasn't a reasonable price for the packages but because I'm really bad about going in consistently to anywhere that isn't the eyebrow threading place in Surprise that I'm used too. My eyebrows don't grow enough to go every 4 weeks & I don't want to go to have like 6 hairs waxed from each eye. Maybe one day I'll be a better adult & make consistent appointments. For now, this will have to do & I'm happy to know this place is close to me, has convenient hours, & reasonable prices. I would go back but not sure when.

My appointment started nearly 20 minutes late. When we went in for the body polish the table was dirty and had to be reset, and the service wasn't explained beforehand, which was uncomfortable going in blind as a first-time client. She also had me touch the tan on my body during the service, which you should never do, and it left spray tan all over my palms. I did not have my palms or nails wiped off at the end either. When I brought it her attention upon leaving (as well as other white spots all over my hands) she sprayed more, which I think ended up making it worse. She tried wiping off my palms at that point, but they were already stained. I paid over $80 total -- which is higher than other studios in Scottsdale, and I have never had a bad experience anywhere else. I still left orange and splotchy with the polish and primer add-ons -- photos attached. The girl who did my tan was nice, but maybe less experienced and appeared to be managing the whole studio on her own. When I reached out, the response was "sorry that you were unhappy with your service" -- but this wasn't about being unhappy, it was a service that wasn't done correctly. It feels like I'm being treated like I did something wrong. I was told I needed to come back in for them to review what happened, which would have required me to leave work early, and that since I hadn't done that I wasn't eligible for a refund. They did offer a free tan as a "gesture of goodwill", but I don't have confidence anything would be different next time. When a tan is orange and patchy, the only solution is to remove it and redo once the old tan is gone -- not go back for more. I'll be trying somewhere else. I ended up having to buy tan remover, a remover mitt and went in the pool several times to try to remove the solution and it's still stuck on there over a week later. I wanted to love this place as it's close to home. I hope they use this feedback to improve the new client experience. If someone turns down a free service, that might be worth reflecting on.
