Locally owned gem, and my favorite place to buy gifts for young kids & their parents. Even though I am not a parent myself, I've been shopping here for years. For baby shower gifts, or first birthdays, or another cute book as a small gift when visiting my nephews. Park in the large lot at the back of the store, if there isn't a street spot open up front. Bring some change or use the app to pay for parking (about a dollar per hour). They always have cute & practical things. Bibs, teething, educational toys, breastfeeding supplies, various dining sets and sippy cups, warm winter gear and fun summer swimwear, clothing from infant to toddler. The works! In the back there is a section w strollers, cribs, baby carriers and car seats. They don't have every brand, but they have some nice ones you won't find at the big box stores. All the staff is really knowledgeable about the use and safety regulations for each. (Another thing you'll not find at a big box store!) I love their emphasis on sustainable products, eco conscious materials and safety. You can truly tell the shop owners care about the products they sell. Downtown Ferndale offers a lot of dining options, and a few specialty boutiques full of cute knickknacks. Most things sold downtown are not household necessities though. So I love that this shop is a practical place to buy things you would actually need as a parent. Go here instead of Target, and support a great local small business in the process. This is my favorite baby store!! Everyone there is very friendly and helpful. Their concept is great where they do all the research for you and stock items that they think are the best. My husband was doing research trying to figure out the best convertible car seat. We went to the store and the kind gentleman talked, listened and suggested a few car seats. He was very informative and we bought our nuna rava from them during Black Friday. Our son was getting so fussy with our infant car seat so we were absolutely happy with this purchase. They also have a point system where you earn a percentage of your purchase back. Their sales are also great especially on the higher end items they carry. I've stopped by this store twice now in the past 5 years. My first experience: I was met with a staff member that could not do their job because their Baby Bjorn (containing their actual baby)was impeding them in ringing up my purchases which I found both odd and irritating. My second attempt at trying to patronize this business I thought buying a gift card to a LOCAL small business was the right thing to do as a baby gift for a colleague who was expecting. What was offered to me was a gift card with no gift card envelope and the staff gaslighting me by telling me it really wasn't a big deal that they didn't have one and didn't understand why I would request it / or need one. Not exactly the point. A better response would have been to apologize the inconvenience, but whatever. Bottom line - the staff rubbed me the wrong way. No real sense of customer service. I'm done. What a CUTE store. I do not wish for our babe to use products that are wasteful or hazardous to the environment - that being said, Modern Natural Baby has pretty much everything that was on our Amazon Baby Registry that fit our eco-friendly lives. All at the same price! I'll definitely return for more items once our babe starts to eat more solid food. They have great silicone plates and baby-safe self-serve utensils. This review is for baby car seat check - to make sure we're installing both the base and the seat correctly. We weren't able to find a local dealership or fire department that did baby car seat checks in a reasonable location or time frame. We learned from https://www.nhtsa.gov/equipment/car-seats-and-booster-seats that Modern Natural Baby conducted these checks in our area code - sweet! We were able to make an appointment the same week, and just finished up our check in for an infant car.. All in all, very convenient to schedule, as they have three technicians on staff. They look at both my car and my SO's car, for the reason will price of $30. They even answered questions we didn't know to ask and provided a lot of additional information that we hadn't thought of already. We found it really useful to talk about the baby at infants age and has a get older well we need to switch to a today seat. Thanks Modern Natural Baby! Very nice selection of quality and VERY cute baby gear and essentials without being overwhelming like huge chain stores. They even have those fun hand puppets which I think I need to buy for my husband as he was very nostalgic about them ha Owner John and his staff are knowledgeable and friendly. Might be a bit pricier than the chain stores, but they carry higher end items that you won't find at the big stores and have obviously hand picked some of the best items available on the market that you don't have to worry about researching since they've done it for you. In fact, I compared some of the pricing with big box stores and they were no different. I think there might have been parking in the back, but I didn't see a sign or how to get to it and the street can get busy so I used metered parking in the front. Since I live on the other side of the state I rely on their online site which had quite a few items out of stock or the color I wanted. I think (hope) I can call and order it though. You also receive good advice from experienced parents and help support local business which is great. They have a baby registry and ship free for items over a certain amount so you can't beat it! read more

I loooooved this store!!! SO MUCH CUTENESS!!! Park in the back and download the Ferndale Parking app because you're going to run out of parking time getting lost in all the sweet things here! We got my daughter some swim diapers for her swim class and the workers so so helpful letting me know how exactly they worked and which ones to get! They also sell these neat wet bags for after swimming that can hold your wet towel and suit so they don't get everything else you have wet! Favorite local baby store. No need for a big box store, when MNB is right here. You can also set up a baby registry here, and I can tell you from personal experience -- when someone buys something off your registry, someone from the store personally packs and ships the item to you - some serious customer service here. Also, you can try many of their baby wearing carriers before purchasing, which is so great when you have NO IDEA what you're doing. Which was me. The people that work there are so great at answering questions and don't make you feel dumb at all. We love this baby boutique! We've been shopping here since before our oldest was born (5 years ago) and we've always been happy with the service, but our most recent experience was above and beyond. We just had our 3rd baby and needed to purchase 3 new car seats that could fit 3 across. Due to the pandemic and stores having limited availability and ability to be open, we weren't sure how or if we'd be able to try any seats before we spent such a large amount of money. John at MNB was super helpful! Once they were given the ok to open the store for operating hours, we were able to make an appointment to come and try the car seats in our car. We ended up purchasing 3 car seats and they guided us on setting them up and installing them for proper fit and safety! Perfect stop for getting ready for baby. They stock really great products at competitive prices. I was able to check out brands in person I could only find online for other stores. I felt like they stock high quality products so I'm picking from the best. When we went to look for strollers we were able to ask a lot of questions. This is a store for babies and young children whose parents lean towards the "crunchy" side of things, which I will say that we do, so this store is great for us. Here are some things you will find here, but have a very hard time finding elsewhere locally: High quality wooden toys Baby carriers and wraps of every type Cloth Diapers of every type Cleansers for baby Swaddle blankets and wraps of the highest quality Jammies and organic clothing for baby BabyLegs and Tights for little ones, and shoes Diaper Bags Wet Bags for damp items Teething items that are safe for a baby! Breastfeeding "accessories" Yes, some of the items seem expensive, but the quality is so good that it is worth the higher price. These are top brands - I have used the same set of cloth diapers for 2 kids already. I also had an amber necklace break and it was replaced by the store very easily. From what I can tell, the staff is composed of moms who have used the products. I love this lever of service and attention when shopping for a product I am not already familiar with. I really like their larger, brighter location - I look forward to shopping here because I always see something new. The staff we were greeted by was very helpful and very friendly. The expanded store is much nicer than the space they had previously and the merchandise is all quality gear for the little tikes. They have a nice little showroom with strollers, car seats and Moses beds and in general all the merchandise is really nice. You'll pay a premium here but it's all well made, biodegradable and/or organic type gear. read more

What a cool store! Awesome selection of really beautiful toys, clothes, shoes, etc. all the workers are really friendly and helpful. They worked with me for an hour to find shoes that properly fit my babe! And to top it off, they were half off! This looks like a fun place to work too. Everyone I knew who had a baby raved about this place. I was pregnant and excited about my growing bundle, so I was ready to jump on the bandwagon. I live in Detroit and rarely make my way out to Ferndale. I decided to make the trip per a friends recommendation when I told her I didn't know what kind of baby carrier would work best on my plus size build. She said she got her baby carrier from Modern Natural Baby and that the woman helping her had her try on several different kinds and went above and beyond. She insisted that I go here so that I would get the same attention. When I walked in, I was instantly excited- and ready to spend some serious dough. At that point, they could've recommended anything and I would have purchased it. It seemed to be slow, with only two other customers perusing the store. There were three employees standing around chatting near the register. I walked over to them and asked what carrier they would recommend for someone with my body type. I was very quickly shut down and told that I had to sign up for a 'baby wearing class' that not only cost money, but was so close to my due date that I knew I couldn't make it. I explained these things to them and asked if they could make an exception and help me, considering I drove 40 mins for this specific need. They said they weren't trained to help me find a baby carrier and the I would simply have to sign up for the class. To say I was disappointed was an understatement. I decided to not give this place ANY of my business and left. I emailed the manager and explained my lament. Her reply was "sorry, we will leave a $10 grift card at the register for you". Ok, gave me a reason to go back. I went back a picked out an item and went to the register to pay for it. I told the women working that I had a gift card at the register. I was told that there wasn't one and that the manager was out on lunch and to come back in an hour. I ended up not purchasing my item and leaving. I was steamed! I can't for the life of me understand why people rave about this place. Sure, it's the only niche baby store in metro Detroit, but their staff is terrible. This place is amazing! Walk in here and you will find a plethora of carefully curated baby gear. The owners go to baby conventions and seek out the best new items. I come in here for most of my baby gifts, and always leave with something new for my kids. The items in here are mostly geared for kids under 4, or moms. The staff is also so so helpful, they always point me toward the perfect gift, and answer my many questions. They just started gift wrapping and also have beautiful gift bags. Their rewards program is wonderful too, they keep track of your purchases, and give you back 10% of what you spend to be used in the store. This store, and the people who work here, are amazing! I have two kids (3 and 1) and have gone in here dozens of times to buy and learn about baby gear. Each time, the selection has been amazing and the staff has gone above and beyond to help me! We were debating purchasing a Veer vs a Keenz and went into the store on two separate occasions to test them out. John and the other male associate who works there (I forget his name I'm sorry!) went above and beyond to help us. They literally spent an hour with us each time showing us the features, accessories, letting my kids hope in and out etc. I was blown away with the customer service and, bonus, once we used our birthday coupon it was cheaper to get our Veer here than it was to buy it anywhere else! But even if it wasn't we still would've purchased here because of the people who work here. They work really hard and have a ton of knowledge on the products. Also, we ended up returning one of the accessories and it was easy and hassle free and they were so nice about it. I had the BEST experience here today. Such a great store. They had everything we were looking for, and then some. We came to get some help picking out wraps and slings, and they were extremely knowledgeable in helping us pick the right one. But what I'm most blown away by is the kindness of everyone working there. When we pulled up in the parking lot, we had some issues with our stroller wheels. They were flat and we were trying to inflate them in the parking lot, but it wasnt working. John from the store walked up and asked us if we needed help, and offered to take the stroller to the inflation station Ferndale has around the block to fill them for us. So he was working, and literally left to go and do this for us. He came back a little while later, and said he couldn't get it to fill, and even youtubed it to see if he could fix it, and then emailed me the YouTube link. I know that was so far beyond the scope of his job, and he didn't do any of that because he had to. I can't say enough good things, and I look forward to my next visit. I live in Novi, and I'm sure there are similar stores closer, but I will continue to make the 30 minute drive to Modern Natural Baby!! read more

They have certified car seat specialist to assist you in your purchase, installation, general safety overview and registration of the product. HOWEVER, they are only there on certain days and require an appointment beforehand, so be sure to call ahead (totally worth it!). I went here on advice from a family member and was really amazed at the selection this store offers. I am out of the "baby" season of my life and really enjoyed walking around this store and marveling at all of the new and exciting baby gear that is offered to new parents. Where was half of this stuff when I raised my babies? I really wish this store had been around when I lived in Ferndale 10 years ago! Among the offerings were safe and natural baby toys (edible crayons? Genius!) a large selection of cloth diapers and coverings, and plenty of different types of carriers, teething necklaces, baby skin/hair products and much more. I was asked several times if I needed help or if I had questions and the cashier was very friendly, offered free gift wrapping for my gift, asked where I was from, and even wished my husband and I a safe trip home on the way out. I'm visiting my parents in Michigan and thought we would try Modern Natural Baby to get some new shoes for my 13 month old. There was convenient parking behind the store. The store was big and clean and bright and had a nice play area with a nursing chair. I was a little overwhelmed at how much stuff there was...so fun to look through everything. After a once over of the store, I approached a sales associate and asked tons of questions. She was helpful and knowledgeable and when she didn't know something, she asked the associate who was the expert in that item. They have many high quality items, are not pushy, and can provide excellent information and suggestions. We left with a lot more than we intended to buy (happily!). read more

Amazing service... My Wife, Dautgher, and myself traveled 2 hours to test out a specific car seat which Modern Natural Baby carries several different models by the same company... The reason I wanted to test out the car seat to make sure I could use it because I only have the use of one hand... The staff was extremely helpful in working with me to make sure I could use it... The first employee "I did not catch her name" sorry, was very knowledgeable on the strollers as well as the car seats... The second employee that helped us was Dana? who came in on her day off to asset us in the selection and installation of our car seat... What kind of employee does that nowadays? We were looking for a particular color and one of the owners of Modern Natural Baby got on the phone right away and tried to find it for us...
