After a big storm in March, my mattress, rugs, and many furniture in the in-law unit were soaking wet from a severe roof leak. I called several roofing companies to schedule an appointment before another big storm due in a couple days. One said their soonest appointment was three weeks away. Another came by and gave us a quote for more than a thousand dollar to temporarily cover a 400 sq ft flat roof with plastic! I finally got in touch with Ivan of Peninsula Roofing. He showed up on time a day before the storm, and patched the roof at a reasonable price. My roof didn't have any leak during the second storm. This month, I shopped around for quotes for a re-roof & gutter installation. I also checked out some former jobs that peninsula roofing had done & the work looked really well done. I called Ivan & he immediately gave me a proper & reasonable quote. The new roof & gutters greatly enhanced the appearance of my house. Ivan is a working boss, he is on the roof with his crew, which stayed the same the entire job. Most roof sellers just sell the work, & get the work started & won't see them again until it's time to write a check. Ivan however worked with his crew everyday. At the end of each day the crew cleaned up thoroughly, picking up debris & putting supplies neatly away. Plus they ran a magnet across the yard & driveway to pick up any nails or staples off the floor. I especially like that many additional vents were installed under & above my roof. IVAN & PENINSULA ROOFING ARE CROOKS!!!!!! I had an absolutely horrific experience with this company. I paid them $2000 to fix my roof, they gave me a warranty and the roof still leaked (within weeks). Rather then resolving the leak or giving me my money back, they just no showed for 3 separate appointments. Here is the detail of my experience: 1. The estimate process was fine and they showed up on time for the fixing of the roof 2. After they "fixed" the roof, I saw one of their workers urinating on my garage door (which is 10 feet from the street). I called Ivan and he said he would talk to the worker. 3. The next rain (a week or so later), the leak in the roof happened again. I called Ivan and they came out to look at the leak and to try and fix it. 4. The next rain came and it leaked again. I called Ivan and he said he would come back out to fix it. At the time of the appointment, he no showed and didn't let me know. He apologized and said he would come back out the following week. 5. The following week happened and he no showed again. Again, he didn't text, email or call me to let me know. I finally got a hold of him and he said something came up so we agreed for him to show up the next week. 6. The next week happened and he NO SHOWED FOR THE THIRD TIME and didn't let me know AGAIN. After numerous texts/phone calls, I finally gave up as Ivan never returned any of my calls. If Ivan and Peninsula roofer were professional and honest, the right thing to do would be to refund me my money or finish the job. Gus came by to give me an estimate but after looking around he told me my roof was still in good shape and did not need to be replaced for another 2 or 3 years! I had bad experiences with this company. I don't normally do reviews but I decided to write one just for them. Short story - I paid them to repair a roof leak but the leak was not fixed, they said they'll get back to me but never did, then they said they'll come out but never showed up. Make sure the results were as you expected BEFORE paying these guys otherwise you paid for nothing. Long story - When I was a new customer, they reacted very promptly. I called them about a roof leak and Chris shows up the next day. He gave me a quote and after I agreed, they sent a team over to repair the leak. Unfortunately, it didn't rain for a few days so I just assumed since they have so many good reviews on Yelp, they should be professional and legit. When it did eventually rain, guess what? The same leak was still there! So I called them, talked to Gustavo (the owner) and told him the situation. He said he'll check with the team and get back to me. Never did. I called them again and talked to Ivan and he said he'll check with the team and get back to me before the end of the day. Never did. I called many times afterward but nobody picks up, so I left voicemails. Never got a callback. Then I eventually got through and talked to Ivan. We agreed on Saturday at 1 pm to check out the leak but he never showed up. No show, no call. After I left a message, he calls me at 3 pm and said Chris is in the area and can come over later. Ivan just happened to be in the neighborhood and arranged to make an on-location estimate within the hour. He examined the water spots and also found another issue where roofing sheets had not been properly sealed down during original construction. We called Peninsula based on all the great reviews and we're so glad we did. Ivan and Chris and their crew were a godsend during a very stressful time. After the rains around New Year's, we discovered we had a bad leak that would ruin our living room ceiling. We tried to contact the company that initially installed our roof but got no response. Initially, we thought it was because they were busy because of this incredible rainy season but learned it was more. We had a two day window before the rains were going to start again, for days! Can you smell the desperation? We thought our best bet would be to get a tarp down until getting a proper appointment. I called Ivan and within the hour he phoned back and scheduled a time for Chris to see the problem. He figured it out quickly. A flat section of our roof was covered with shingles, attached by nails which is a big mistake. Water was leaking around the rusty nails. Chris said that we needed to cover the flat surface with a uniform piece of roofing and a tar-like substance but they were very busy and he didn't know when they could come back. That was totally understandable but we were still feeling desperate with the impending 4 day spate of rain looming. Chris said he would check in with Ivan and available workers and see what he could do. Miracle of miracles, Ivan let me know later that day that they would be able to come back the next day (the last dry day before more rain.) The flat part of the roof was covered and solved the problem!!! But then... We started to hear a new ominous dripping sound in a different area of the living room. I texted Ivan on Sunday and he responded first thing Monday. They came out that morning and spent a bit more time trying to find the source but eventually found it (window sill frame) and help seal up that area. It was probably a couple of extra hours at no additional cost. Well, it's obvious that we are extremely grateful to Ivan, Chris, and crew.
