Mike S. arrived exactly as scheduled for the inspection. He first inspected the skylights from inside the house, and then we went up on the roof. He took the time to clearly explain what needed to be repaired, what was rusted, and what needed to be replaced. He provided an affordable quote that I was comfortable with, and we scheduled a date for the repairs and replacements. On the scheduled date, the roofing company crew arrived right on time and completed the job as promised. I have to say, it looks great! The quality of the work really shows. 10/10 would hire again. SSF, CA - First time homeowner after inheriting a home. After a leaky winter, we knew it was time for tar and gravel 1950s roof to be replaced if we could afford it. We gathered multiple quotes from local roofers. Not only was McCurdy's quote the most thorough and detailed, it was also one of the more competative pricings with a long history and warranties behind them. We did choose the McCurdy team and we would again! Below are some notes from the experience. Free quote: Not all who provided quotes actually went up on our roof (some used drones). I really appreciated that the McCurdy rep was kind and went up on the roof and examined it first-hand - and Bobby sent us the proposal very soon after. We were also alerted by them of masonry work that would be needed in the future for our chimney (very kind to be looking out for other signs of wear and tear even if they don't handle those repairs). By contrast, some other contractors were not friendly, did not say goodbye or tell us what to expect for follow up. It wasn't like that with McCurdy team. Signing and prep: This process was very smooth and the folks at the office were great! They have it down. The amount of information and options you are sent and what to expect is very written out, which is reassuring if you're unfamiliar with what to expect and need that extra detail to feel confident in the process. Note: in the contract, you do sign to allow for wood remediation in advance; this is good to note as I'll explain later. Roof demo, repair, and replacement: It took them 2 days to demo, repair, and replace our ~1,200 sq ft tar and gravel roof with modified bitumen (and also installed gutters). The teams on site were friendly and considerate, and fun (sometimes singing while working). It was nice to see. The foreman was also very kind, and I asked for process pictures and he was happy to send some along in a text which made it a great experience. Final invoicing: During prep of final invoice, McCurdy office team called to alert us that (after debriefing with the crew) we needed to call PG&E for a fire hazard; the crew noticed exposed wiring on the roof. We called PG&E who confirmed it was an emergency, and the PG&E rep came out within the hour. They told us the unit was bad and replaced the whole thing! Thank you to the crew for preventing a house fire, truly. There was one invoice experience hiccup, where wood remediation was apparently done but not communicated at the time. This resulted in a significant surprise addition to the invoice at the end; we resolved this in a fair way. :) Wood remediation is signed off in advance in the contract to help keep work on schedule; even so - the McCurdy office team let us know the crew onsite is to tell the client when they encounter it, so with extra work there's no surprises on final invoice amount. Overall: 10/10 It was just so refreshing and resassuring to work with them, where they hold themselves to high standards of both their work and their customer service and relations. The unfortunate actions of one individual cast their entire company in a negative light, and I understand their situation. So I'll balance out my review to a more neutral rating. It was very thoughtful for the owner to reach out and even provide his personal cell phone to make things right. We've already gone with another company, but it shows that he cares about his company's reputation and may work with customers to improve things. My review was the second negative review about their estimator/sales person, and it's clear the owner has taken notice. I'm hopeful that the next customers have a much more pleasant experience. Envision if you will, a standard San Francisco Sunset District flat roof home, circa 1948. It's common to see two skylights in those houses, one over the stairwell, another over the bathroom. We had what we thought was a roof leak around one of the skylights. As the fixtures were 70 years or so old, that's to be expected. Sealing around the metal exterior seemed likely. I phoned several roofers and McCurdy said that they could send someone to have a look in an hour or two. Quick and convenient is good. It turned out that both skylights were just old and deteriorated. We got a surprisingly reasonable estimate to replace them and decided to go ahead. It appears that nobody stocks replacement skylights so a pair had to be fabricated. No issue, it's not rainy season. After that was done we set a date to do the work. On installation day Wayne and Enoch arrived. The phone dispatcher had quoted about an hour to remove and replace the pair of skylights. That's about all the time it took. I've included photos of before and after. The old fixtures were in sorry shape. It's amazing that they only leaked as much as they did. So, in summary, quick and accurate with a quote. Easy and efficient with the installation. What more could a buyer want? If you need some roof work, it says here that you should check 'em out. read more

Many changes were made to the specifications without notice or communication. There was no pride in workmanship or any professionalism. Found a leak in my living room. I called McCurdy Roofing. I was able to schedule an appointment within a few days. Andrew arrived two days later and spotted the problem right away. The sheet metal on top of the chimney had a few small pit holes that were causing the leak. He was able to give me a quote to replace the sheet metal and also install a new cap over the chimney. He also spotted another issue around the chimney. We were able to schedule them to come out a week and a half later. He also wanted to replace some of the flashing around the chimney with new shingles and replacing some of the stucco around the chimney. This price to do the work was reasonable. We were able to schedule them to come out a week and a half later. approximately three days before my appointment, the office called to let me know the Cruz were done early with another job and they could be out the next day so they came out two days earlier than expected and was able to have the job completed in one day they left the area looking better than it was when they got there and after this last rain storm a couple days ago found no leaks at all so I am very happy with McCurdy Roofing read more

I will start with their prompt and initial response to my request for an estimate. Half the battle is having roofing companies respond to a request for an estimate. The McCurdy team (Mike, Amber, Wayne) was pleasant, professional and wasn't pushy with the hard sell. Wayne came out as scheduled to give me an estimate and found him to be very knowledgeable about roofs and very proud to be part of McCurdy Roofing. He thoroughly inspected my roof and showed me pictures taken from his inspection of defects and potential future problems. Very grateful he took the time to explain things that I would have never realized on my own. It's unfortunate that we didn't end up using McCurdy. Their bid was competitive and comprehensive. We ended using another contractor due to other circumstances that was not related to McCurdy. Perhaps we will call upon McCurdy on another roof in the future. Where do I start? .. AMAZING company, ALL of them!! I found them in yelp, called and spoke to a really sweet and friendly Amber that always sound so happy and ready to help. She scheduled appointment for the review of roof repair and skylight within few days. I truly appreciate that throughout the process, she always available to help and answer any questions, always prompt and efficient in emails communication too. This company is so lucky to find a great front person!! Then Wayne came, climbed up the roof, reviewed so thoroughly, took photos and measurements and emailed the estimate the very next day! Another very efficient person!! We scheduled for the day before thanksgiving and unfortunately the "work" couldn't be completed, as start time was midday. The access to the roof is not the easiest, up few flight of stairs plus climbing up ladder. Wayne and David were very careful with moving the equipments, roof stuff and tools, not to damage our newly renovated home. An minor mishap happened, causing a hose bib on the deck to break and Wayne was so concerned, even more than me! He quickly called for the plumber, which only able to come the following morning. Regardless the inconvenience to us, the company took care of all the expenses to repair the issue, which ended up being quite expensive. David and another polite, careful crew, Miguel came early the next day to finish up the work but of course we couldn't rush drying time of sealants. So even after working all day on our roof and light-well, they had to return another day to complete the work for few hours, and leave our roof all clean, repaired and skylight ready. The most impressive part, beside them hauling up all the heavy stuff and tools up the roof, is that David had to climb out a bathroom window to refinish our narrow light-well roof. Our neighbor's house is fully demolished and the drop from the light-well will be over two story. He did such a great job, in that narrow space, without fear! Last but not least, the pricing is so super reasonable, almost cheap for their effort. They definitely put customers first, in all aspect and I will hire them again at a heartbeat for any future roof repair or replacement. The McCurdy team did a tremendous job on our roof. Following the October 2021 atmospheric river storm, our roof was damage and leaked into the home. It took a few months to finalize the details and had to wait for their schedule to be available, but once they were able to schedule the project, it went extremely smooth and the quality of work looked great. The crew finished the project in ONE DAY, which obviously helped minimize any potential impact to us, as residents. Price is reasonable enough, and a crew was sent back a week and two weeks later to double-check how the roof was holding up. Pleasant and professional experience choosing products and planning for my small garage roof... until the day of the project. They offered to complete in one day, but the roofers didn't arrive until 2:30. They didn't know about rot previously identified and discussed prior to the start of the job. Their air compressor didn't work. They used multiple lengths of nails resulting in some poking through the underside of the roof in no discernible pattern. Only about half the roof was completed before dark. A different individual returned three days later to complete the shingling and did good work. The agreement indicated the job would be completed within three days, and that was achieved except for one single roof shingle and new gutters that were finished later in the week. No apology or acknowledgement of problems throughout. No rain penetration during the heavy rains and wind this past Spring after the job, so the result was good enough. By comparison, I hired a different company to install the same shingle product on my main house roof. That other company installed quickly, consistently, with better underlayment products, and they even touched up a little issue on my garage roof. The job was fully completed in three days. Not rushed, but efficient, and the result was excellent. read more

He gave me an estimate I thought was fair. they scheduled the repair in a reasonable time frame. The absolute most unprofessional company l have ever dealt with. The roof estimator, Ezikiel, came to inspect my roof last month and then sent a contract. I had a few questions regarding the work and l was promised a follow up, but never received one. I called once weekly to try to get a reply to my questions, and was always promised a quick response by the receptionist, Amber. Still nothing! The last straw came today when l called to follow up and Amber took out all of her stress and anger at me! She screamed that they were slammed with calls due to the recent storms. I literally could not get a word in as she just kept screaming at me! And when l did try to speak, she got even more hostile! I felt like a criminal, it was incredibly humiliating! Very unprofessional receptionist! Definitely won't be working with them! I am truly sorry that you were inundated with calls, but don't use your customers as a punching bag to vent your anger. Completely uncalled for on any level! We had a roofing job and tried to get several bids but a few companies would not come out to Alameda or just weren't interested. It was very important to me -- which we communicated -- that the workers wear masks. We were told they would. They didn't. Thus, while they were here I would not go out to check their work. Once they left I discovered they moved all of these unnecessary patio items -- artwork, ladders that had plants on them thus they were not meant to be used, big plants. It was crazy.
