I tried to bring my car here on a day that I made an appointment for and when I showed up up they said I had no appointment and that I could bring it back after a week. I explained I lived about 25 min. away and this was frustrating as I had a witness when I made the appt so I knew I wasn't mistaking it. The man was clearly irritated with me and told me I could leave my car and that they would look at it if they had time, maybe that day/maybe not, but with zero timeline. So I kept the new appt and left. I would probably check before bringing my car back here as their appointment list is hand written and clearly not reliable. I'd recommend calling and double checking before bringing my car here again. Or maybe they should switch to strictly a computer system so people don't show up and then have to turn around and drive back. read more

Incredible service!!!!!!! I have never felt more taken care of when it comes to all things Mini and Audi! Where do I start? Eric runs the front. He is so friendly, professional and kind. I've never had to wait and have been treated with friendliness and courtesy every time I go in. He has gone the extra mile to work with my extended warranty. It took some tries but he did get them to cover issues with my transmission. The WORK IS EXCELLENT! Of course a friendly staff is great, but the work being exemplary is the utmost of importance. and they do NOT disappoint! John is the Audi expert. He knows Audi. Oh yesss he does! Make sure you check and see what they put down for your mileage. Spent $3000 in late July and had to have it towed back there in October. They claimed I had put 3500 miles on it since July. I don't know if they purposefully did this or made a mistake but the mechanic didn't listen when I explained it was literally impossible for me to have driven that far sine I go to and from work (12 miles) and the grocery store. We're in a pandemic. I've owned the car for 5 years and put a total of 9000 miles on it. When I showed them a video of the antifreeze pouring out of my car, they said I must have overfilled it ( I hadn't touched it in months) now we're in February and I took it somewhere new, after MS didn't completely fix what was wrong. read more

was hearing a metallic brushing sound from a wheel on my sprinter in the rear somewhere (3500 dualie=there are four wheels back there) and after leaving it for a day, tom (the guy at the desk) informed me that "it was just some corrosion on the rotor that the new brake pad was going to eventually clean off". i thought "yay, an honest garage for once, i will be theirs for life!" cut to trip to salida (after descending crow hill, too). sound is now worse; took it to mike's garage on friday,"cannot look at it until monday". monday they say "metal on metal on a rear brake, parts will in tuesday, probably be finished wednesday morning". $998 for all rear brakes, new pads/rotors/labor plus additional $400 for motel/food/etc. not counting lost work. went in to tom at modern specialists for an oil change months later. after a day i come back to pick up and he states "we can not fit your sprinter on our lift." i go "well then how did you diagnose the original problem during my first visit?" he states "i am sorry to have wasted your time." and that was it! so pissed... read more

Took my car in cuz I live 100 miles away, new customer, took the recommendation from a friend. I had them charge me 600 dollars to fix my valve tronic motor. I decided to do my own valve cover gasket replacement because I was told I'd have to spend 1700 dollars to fix that and a sensor. In the process of doing so I found out that I have to take out the valve tronic motor anyway. So I looked up the price on rock auto which I've used for years to purchase and repair vehicles. The part it 70 dollars and it took me maybe 30 minutes to get to the motor. I'll let you do the math, only take it here if you feel like spending your money. Take it to a friend, have them use an OBD reader, if you have 50 dollars you can buy one online that links to your phone. Find the issue and get it fixed. Your friendly neighborhood mechanic that likes to work on cars will charge you a lot less then this. read more

I've been taking my Mini Coop here for a couple of years now, and generally, they are pretty competitive, nice, and cool guys. But this last time, I'm not happy and wanted to share my experience. I scheduled my car repair for a Wednesday. The guy on the phone on Tuesday said I could get a ride home. Well, when I arrived, there was no one to drive me and I was stranded an hour-plus bus ride from home. Also, he asked if I needed the car that day, and when I explained I couldn't be in after 3, the guy said okay see you on Thursday then. Well, I arrived Thursday at 2 to pick up the car, and they were right in the middle of the job, and apparently hadn't even started on the day we scheduled the repair... So I was stranded again in Boulder and was late to work, as they also had no one to drive me, and so I was back on the bus for a 2nd unexpected ride. I'd appreciate a phone call next time if it's going to take that much longer than they said. read more

I apparently needed to have my front brakes replaced. I brought my 750li here since i was less than impressed with the local dealership. I got what I thought was a great price ($400-ish dollars), so I had them do the work. Very friendly and the owner was patient with my other kind of anal requests (I'm kind of particular about car repairs and getting taken by mechanics). Brakes get done and there is a knocking sound when I hit the brakes at certain speeds, which I found unacceptable. I call the owner, bring the car back in, and they take apart the brakes and find no problem. I drive the car again, hear the knocking again, and call the owner back the next day. He asks if I could come in when the mechanic who did the work was on his break, which I did. The mechanic rides with me and doesn't hear the knocking, so he drove the car and then heard what I was hearing, and told me that he thinks it was a coating that the manufacturer puts on the brakes that will come off in a few days. If it's still there in a few days, let them know again. I say I'll give it a few days and see how it is. The next day, no more knocking, so it was apparently the coating. The bottom line - 1) the owner never lost his patience, and continued to do what he had to do to make me, the customer, happy 2) the mechanic spent 25 minutes of his break time to help me out 3) I walked away a happy customer. I am very aware that they could have just as easily brushed me off, as many places do once you pay the bill. Kudos to Modern Specialists! If I still lived in CO, they'd be my go-to mechanic, hands down! The bad thing is, now I have to find another go-to place............ read more

I took my 2000 328i there for multiple things and everything Ben, the mechanic that has helped me every time, has been knowledgable and extremely helpful. Relatively new to Boulder and it is good to have a great shop like this. Furthermore, the prices have been great and the last time I brought it in to fix a little thing Ben did it without charge. So, two days after I had my car fixed by these guys, ($1100....new brakes and electrical misfires) it was dead AGAIN, and I had to have it towed AGAIN. Dead battery. Now, why they didn't check the battery two days prior when there was an electrical problem is BEYOND ME. read more

I had a great experience with the team at modern specialist. Being new to boulder area, I was having problems finding a garage/mechanics I could trust. I have a 2003 A6 4.2 and tried the folks in Niwot and they cost me lots of money on 'trial and error.' Would not recommend them. Over past year, My car has intermittent starting issues and went to yelp to find a new team. To make a long story short, using yelp I decided to call MS. From the first call, Sid made me feel comfortable with their expertise. i did plenty of Audi forum research, and Sid added additional insight. I brought my car in, met the owner (Scott?) and gave him my self diagnosis. Then Ben the technician called before starting any work - he told me what the codes read and I gave him the go ahead to do the work. Airflow sensor and temp sensor. Ben fixed a problem that two other garages missed on. I am a happy customer and will return. From my first conversation to work completion, I am very satisfied and MS has exceptional customer service and execution. read more

As a female, I feel very comfortable going to Modern Specialists. I trust them to fix my car correctly and not take advantage of the fact that I'm a woman. I have had my 2005 BMW 325xi worked on by Ben, one of the mechanics, twice now and he is always fast, efficient, and honest. He will call me to tell me what he found, how is going to fix it, if he found any other issues, and how bad those other issues are. For example the last time I brought it in because my CV Boot was cracked so he had to replace the axle. He called to give me an update (my car was going to be done hours earlier than I expected!) as well as tell me that he looked over my car and everything looked good except the oil pan gasket was leaking and should be replaced in the next 30,000 miles or so. This wasn't really surprising news since it has been leaking oil for a few months now and my fiance and I have replaced everything that could be leaking oil except the oil pan gasket. When we went in to pick up the car Scott, the owner, was there and was extremely nice. He greeted us, chatted about Ben and my car and went through the charges with me on the invoice. I will only bring my car to Modern Specialists from now on and I will probably only let Ben work on it since he has proven himself in the past! Thank you Scott and Ben! read more

I just picked my Audi up from Modern Specialists and could not be more pleased with the service I received. After a weekend of extremely cold temps and having it jumped, the battery was on its last legs. Worried that it would die on me with a full work and holiday schedule, I called Modern Specialists as my dealership is located in Denver and I work in Boulder. Austin assured me it was no problem to fit my car in that morning and have it finished same day. I dropped it off around 7:50, was checked in, and the owner, Scott, got me to work by 8! By 9:45, Austin let me know they confirmed it was a battery problem and it had been fixed. Price was on par with what I expected and checkout took all of 2 minutes. Run for the hills! I called and spoke with Scott on getting the upper timing chain tensioner replaced on my Audi Q7 with 3.0 TFSI engine. He quoted $4300 for 30 hrs. to remove the engine. The engine doesn't need to be removed on a Q7 for this repair and the dealer quoted $2k. Always be sure to get multiple quotes, but these guys don't know what it takes to repair a Q7! read more

This shop is awesome!!! I was in Boulder for a conference. My BMW had a major coolant leak. Day 1 fixed my coolant reserve tank. They diagnosed that the water pump, thermostat needed replaced. Sent me pictures. The dealership I bought the car from stated they replaced this in October 2011. It was never replaced. They gave me my worn parts (dealership will be receiving call and a visit with parts). The dealership offered to tow my car from Boulder and then refused to back their own repair work. Day 2 stuck in Boulder MS took my car last minute and installed a new water pump and thermostat. This place is outstanding. The owner Scott Yarbrough and his crew are topnotch. Saw their reviews online so called them for a Pre-Purchase Auto Inspection on a BMW I am buying sight unseen shipped to Phoenix. Talked to a really professional gentleman named Scott (Owner), he said he was busy for the next few days, I told him how I was closing the deal in a few hours so he told me don't worry about it he will go check it out. He got back to me within 2 hours telling me that the car was very clean and drove well and that he would not have any reservations buying this vehicle. The car is already a BMW Certified Pre-Owned so I did not need to get the works just needed a road test and visual inspection for peace of mind. After dealing with these guys I really do understand why they are rated so well. I am glad this is the first place I called. If I had to deal with a mechanic in the Boulder/Denver/Longmont area these guys would be it. And after all that, here is the kicker, the BMW dealership was a few blocks away so he did not charge me a dime. I even offered to buy his shop/team lunch and he would not accept.
