Update to my original 5 star 2005 Subaru purchase review: The car that I bought at Super Rupair, which I love, had a major engine problem. I am not going to go into details about the problem, but it required a very expensive repair. Expensive enough that I might have had to walk away from the car; the repair cost would have been about 35% of what I had paid for the car itself. While I had only had the car for 6 months and about 7,000 miles, and this kind of problem should not have occurred on the engine as it had been represented at purchase, I am not sure that the vehicle was legally under warranty for this problem. At the minimum it was possibly a gray area. I met with Kirby, who had sold me the car. We had a talk, and he ended up standing behind the car, and did the entire repair for free. I had anticipated a problem, that I would have to at least pay a large portion of the repair. I was so impressed with how Kirby handled the situation, that I offered to pay a good faith portion of the parts cost. Kirby refused the money and handled the whole repair as a warranty issue. I took my Forrester in for the 65k service and explained that i was going on a major roadtrip so I asked them to look the car over for safety. We had the battery die on us multiple times when the auto-start kicked in leaving us temporarily stranded in traffic with our kid/family in the car. Pretty disappointed in Super Rupair's response when they happened to reach out for feedback today. Lesson learned, don't take anything for granted for a major service interval or a requested "safety check." ALWAYS specify the work you want done and don't leave anything to common sense. Delay, delay, deny, then lie. Sold and installed a used engine for us. Found the oil dipstick dry 1541 miles later. Photo is below and video will be posted on FB. Called Kirby a few times within their warranty period and attempted to drop off so they could assess and correct low oil, engine lights, etc. Each time a delay. They declined taking our car in on several occasions saying they didn't have storage space to wait for the next bay available. Conveniently, Kirby says they have no record of those calls, in fact, says they don't keep records of any calls. Responding to Kirby below. I called in late may or early June in preparation to go out of town trip, he declined to take the car in then. I called again and set appointment in September, which they delayed to November. I wish I had better things to say. I am a repeat customer. My initial experience was great. Easy financing and bought a great truck. That's the reason I went to buy another car from them. I bought a 2013 Crosstrek and it's been a NIGHTMARE. I've had to take it in three times in the last few weeks because they couldn't figure out why the check engine and other lights were on and the car was idling hard. I live about 30 min away. I've wasted over three hours just bringing the car in and I don't even know how much money in gas. I'm sad that this experience has been so different than my first purchase. They promised some nice floor mats and never followed through so the car doesn't even have half of its floor mats. It's been a mess the entire time. read more

Do no go here- bait and switch! Just go to the dealership, it will be cheaper in the long run. My story- I called into Super Rupair for a quote on struts before coming in, because the Subaru dealership's quote seemed a bit high. They were very nice and quoted a price of $790, which was about a hundred dollars less than the Subaru dealership. When I came in, they said it was a bit early for struts, so they would confirm it needed it before they replace them (although I could see one was leaking), but it seemed nice of them and I didn't think anything of it. I was shocked when I got a bill for $925, which included a $70 "inspection and advise" charge, to confirm I needed the struts (although I told them I could see one was leaking), and about $50 of fees, not including tax. read more

Their attention to detail is lacking. I scheduled an appointment for oil change and tire rotation. When I arrived at appointment, they didn't have tire rotation on the "to do" list so I had them add it. After, I paid for the service, I realized, after looking at the invoice, that the tire rotation had NOT been done! Another minor complaint is they discovered that my radiator cap was not functioning properly. Instead of calling be to get my approval to resolve the problem, they took it upon themselves to make the change and told me about it when I picked up my car. Most car repair departments will call you in real-time to get your approval for a unscheduled repair. Thanks goodness this wasn't a major cost item. I'm thankful that they discovered the problem, not too happy about their process of getting unscheduled repairs approved! Just something to be aware of! read more

They don't quite live up to their own hype. Every car for sale has the same cut a paste statement about how they went through the whole thing and fixed all the problems they found. Well that may be true but they sure don't look too hard. I was really hoping to have a great experience and really it was only ok. I don't write positive (or negative) reviews unless I feel a place has really earned it. This is probably a little overdue, as Super Rupair has taken excellent care of me ever since I started bringing my 2006 Outback here about two years ago. They have always been honest and are usually well below what other repair shops have quoted me. For example, I once took my car into another auto shop in town, who told me that I had an important part failing on both sides of my car. They quoted me $600. Feeling a little suspicious, I brought my car into Super Rupair, and without giving them any specifics, just asked that they take a quick look at it. Within half an hour, they had told me I indeed did have a part that was failing...but only on ONE side of my car. My price was $150. Most recently, I brought my poor car in to get it looked at for a flashing check engine light, brake rotors, and a burnt out headlight bulb. Although there was quite a bit wrong with it, they were upfront with me about the most important issues after I told them I was tight on money. They also got me in the same day I called, had the car back to me midday the next day, and even helped me out on the cost of a few minor things (like an oil change, air filter, inspection, etc). Both Trent and Kirby, as well as everyone I spoke to in person, were courteous, timely, and straightforward with me throughout the entire process. As a young woman, and a broke, recent college grad, I really appreciated every effort they made. As long as I live in the Boulder area, I will never take my Subaru anywhere else. read more

The owner wrote me again, and I do want to share a couple key points from that exchange: The guy who I dealt with was fired, thankfully, so hopefully no other women out there will experience this sort of treatment. Apparently I was not the only women he treated like crap and he had a history of being more honest to male costumers. His attitude is the biggest reason I can only give them two stars, and since I have been assured that he is gone I will move it up to three. Had anyone communicated as well with me as the owner has been now, I would have had a much different experience! Also, they use Subaru's own brake parts, which are more expensive than those offered at brake-only shops. I agree with the owner that car manufacturers make higher quality, longer-lasting parts for their own cars BUT as a full-time student and part-time minimum wage worker three years ago I couldn't afford the difference. Obviously my biggest issue was that the guy handling my repairs was more interested in getting me to do all the repairs at once and with him than helping me find a cost-effective solution, and had he listened to me he would have saved me $25 by not checking a button I just didn't know existed! I will not be bringing my car back to this shop, but to be fair I live in Golden now and it would be extremely inconvenient for me to give them a second chance. I do appreciate the owner's concern for how I was treated, I just wish I had filed a complaint in a timely manner (I was extremely short on time, energy, and cash when this all happened). read more

Took my subaru up here for a check engine light problem. They seemed honest and they definitely know subarus. They did try to sell me the old transmission flush but then, what mechanic doesn't. These guys get good rating because there not stupid. They know how to work on subaru's, but they also know how to make money. Why do you think that shop does so well? We all know how crooked mechanic shops work to make a lot of money. They take advantage of people like me who know little about cars and look at me like I'm some rich kid who has money to throw away. I just feel like I got used and taken advantage of by their service department. I took my car to Yoshi motors, recommended by a friend, they checked my car and told me what was wrong with it and said, "Go to super rupair because they have used parts and can do it cheaper." I go there and come to find out there's like 5 things wrong with my car. I get it out of the shop and they say it's all fixed, no worries. The next day my car won't start. I call Super Rupair and they say, "oh it must have been this then." Thanks man. How much is that going to cost me now. This shop can fix your car, but be prepared to pay for their overpriced services and they'll let you know EVERYTHING that's wrong with your car. And I've been going to Super Rupair for years, but now I've learned my lesson and will never go back again. It's like night and day when you take it to another shop. I'd get a 2nd opinion.... I recommend going to YOSHI motors on Folsom. They are very honest mechanics and they don't try to cheat you out of your hard earned money. Think about it: Look how nice all their branding is, their shop, their offices. Go into an honest shop and you'll see the difference. I have had so many issues with my Subaru and this company came highly HIGHLY recommended to me so I decided to give them a shot. Driving my Subaru, something just didn't feel right. There was no check engine light, but it didn't seem right. I took my car in and they seemed a bit confused on why I would bring it in on a hunch. Tell told me it would be $50 to look at it and I said that was fine I just needed to make sure everything was fine. They came back and said everything was fine. 3 months later I had a catalytic converter go bad. Okay, I understand that could be missed (I did tell the guy I had been having issues with my catalytic converter so wouldn't his cue be to really check them?) I thought, maybe it was just an honest mistake. I found out today that they missed my lower ball joint going bad. The mechanic I took it to today said they've been bad for quite some time and they could have failed at any moment. I'm really starting to believe they just pocketed my $50 and didn't even bother to look at my car. read more

The people here are very nice, and they do have a lot of used parts, which makes fixing your car pretty simple. That said, I've gone to them on 2 occasions where they quoted me fixes of $1300 and $2000. Not having that kind of money, I went to get a second opinion. The first time I found that the problem could be fixed with a $10 bottle of power steering fluid (and this was 4 years ago, problem never came back) and the mechanic I went to even put it in for me for free. The next problem I found could be fixed for $210, a tenth of what super rupair quoted me. I really like them, and I love subarus so I want to like them, but I just can't, when twice already I have found that they were either a) lying to me about other possible and cheaper solutions or b) weren't aware of the other ways to fix my problems. read more

Beware! This place does not uphold their warranties! They took 3 days to install a clutch on my 2012 STI, which was still sticky and hard to push in when they finally handed me the keys. I had spent over $5000 on this particular visit with them. My clutch ended up going out before the warranty expired, and as it was a year ago, I don't remember the exact mileage, however, they refused to uphold the warranty, and blamed my driving. On top of that, their customer service is well below average, as this was the manager who refused to take care of the problem. I haven't been back since then, which was over a year ago, and will never take another vehicle to them ever again! Just take your car to Flatiron Subaru, they uphold all of their warranties and will treat you and your car with the love and respect they deserve! Good luck out there! Side note: My middle name starts with a "T", as I'm sure their records would show my last name. Also, why would anyone trust a place that talks poorly about the manufacturer or dealer of the cars that they themselves service and love, and have been able to create a business out of doing just that. Funny how only when you write a bad review on someone, do they actually want to treat you like a customer with a valid opinion...would have been more professional to do so when the situation was in play, then now, when it is too late. Further more, the dismissal of said actions, and telling people that they aren't real customers, or are using a fake profile, is a sad attempt at covering up their tracks, on any level, and only further proves this 1 star rating! read more

I took my car in last year for a "new" alternator, said alternator failed a year later. When I took it back the guys at the desk were helpful but not in helping me replace the alternator. I asked how much to replace again, they said 3 hours ($500 with parts and labor). I decided to take on this monumental task for myself with a limited tool kit and good old fashioned intuition. 24 minutes later (seriously 24 minutes I timed it) I had a new alternator installed and ready to go with no issues ($125). Probably one of the easiest things I have ever done with a car, the hardest part was not dropping a bolt behind a radiator (which I did like an idiot but I won't count that 15 minute mistake since technically it was not associate with the alternator). I like them, I will use them for bigger items (if my engine ever blows) but "3 HOURS" and it took a novice only 24 minutes!!!! I dont like that, I dont think that that is fair to the consumer and most people will never know because most people didnt have kick ass grandfathers to teach them how to believe that anything is possible. Again, 3 hours for a pro and 24 minute for a novice!?!?! After this incident I think I will start shopping around for new mechanics. read more

I love these guys. They've serviced my Outback for about 7 years, and I always feel like they fix exactly what's wrong, and only what's wrong. They always call with a quote before they do any work, and they always take time to explain what's wrong and why it needs to be fixed. And if I decide to hold off on a suggested repair, they're no pressure about it. I've been taking my Subaru to Super Rupair for 6 years and they're fast, friendly and reasonably priced. They do a great job!

They claimed they did a test on my Outback that they did not do and billed me for, then added on a bunch of other unnecessary tests to try and diagnose an issue that were not called for. After two days of them not figuring out the problem, I took the car to the dealer and they immediately knew what the problem was from the sound, and did the first test that Super Rupair never did but charged me for. Dealer fixed immediately under warranty, and Super Rupair still claims they did the test that I can prove they didn't do. Avoid unless you want to get taken for a ride. read more

I have been a patron of Super Rupair since I moved to Boulder around 3 years ago. I started taking my car there because it came so highly recommended as the mechanic in town that truly specialized in Subarus. They were still located at their old office location on the other side of the property at that point. I will say from the very get-go that every single employee I have ever spoken with there has always been extremely kind, respectful, and friendly toward me. My review here is more so an overview of having gone there for years, and the accumulation of several experiences. Their customer service is above average, to say the least. Yet, I am not quite sure their quality of technicians is up to par. On several occasions I have been into Super Rupair, just to spend 600-700 dollars, and literally have had to turn back around the very next week because something else immediately fails in the car. Now, I am not a person to point fingers, and many of the repairs I speak about could've been coincidental. But, the thing that upsets me is that last week I came in after getting an oil change at Grease Monkey in town. While getting the oil change, one of Grease Monkey's technicians gave me a long comprehensive list of recommended repairs. One of which involved my engine coolant being very low - they topped it off and told me to consult my general mechanic. Overall, I thought I could trust a more specialized service shop, like Super Rupair, to double check the things that they had pointed out and see if they were really necessary. I came into Super Rupair a few days later, handed them the printed list of items and asked them to please double check these things to make sure that I was not trying to be scammed. They did their usual inspection and assured me that they would check the items on the list. I dropped my car off at 9, and at around noon I called to check-in on the car. I was bounced around on the phone (not the first time with that one either) and was told I would be getting a call back any minute. Two hours went by, and knowing that they close at 5:30 and that I really needed my car for the weekend, I called again to no avail. At around 3:30 I finally received a call back. The guy told me that they had done their inspection, checked over the list, and that nothing was of concern. I WAS told that I needed rear brake pads and a new battery. This didn't surprise me at all since I had noted that at a previous time. The price was not cheap at all, but alas, I wanted it over with. I was able to pick my car up at 5. The point of the story is that less that one week later my radiator blew and my car overheated. No warning at all and I was out a car the whole weekend. I brought my car back in that Monday to get it checked. Super Rupair ended up charging me about 450 dollars for the radiator. That, in conjunction with last week's visit and two days of rentals cost me upward of 1000 dollars. My issue is not so much about the cost as it is in the fact that the itemized sheet I gave them to check over MENTIONED an engine coolant leak, and the recommendation from Grease Monkey to check deeper into this ASAP. Matched with Super Repair's comprehensive 90 point inspection, they most certainly should've helped prevent this from occurring - and at the very least not kept me out a car for the weekend. I told the person taking care of me that I wanted to entirely make sure that this was not caused by any of the work they did the week before, or lack thereof. He took no responsibility and I left the whole thing feeling quite upset. The only real positive thing was that he was able to get the repair done by the end of the day, which really helped me and my carless situation. Unforunately, there have been around 2-3 occasions over the last few years where a serious repair will be done just to have my car back in there the following week. I am not quite sure what happens, and I do want to be very fair in this review, but either way my overall experience has led me to believe that the mechanics they have on staff are quite negligent. The situation with my radiator may have been salvageable, or at least its overheating could've been prevented, if the technicians at Super Repair had actually looked it over like I had emphasized on my original visit. Instead, they assured me everything was totally fine, and exactly one week later and now I am in need of a new radiator - doesn't add up. This hurts to say because the guys up front have always been very friendly to me, but regardless of their professionality and courteousness, this is a service shop and what truly counts is how good the mechanics are. I am unsure if I will be going back for more repairs in the future, it's been a real hit or miss and I have shelled out a lot of money and seem to have to come back quite a lot. In conclusion, I feel like these last repairs could've been avoided if they had simply paid more attention in the first place. read more

This business was recommended to me by a friend, so I took my Legacy in for a check engine light. I arrived early for my appointment, so I was not surprised that I had to wait for a while for the check in process. They were extremely busy but very cordial and every attempt was made to expedite the process. I left my car and received a call in a short time with an estimate and was delighted to find out that it would be ready by the time I got off of work. After work I picked my car up. It runs great, the check engine light is off and I will be back. I just want to say that I get tired of being treated like a "dumb blonde" and at SuperRupair that did not happen. By their indifference, it appears that this is not what I would call customer oriented business. They have caused us to buy another Forester because they did/would not stand behind their parts and work. I had a transmission replaced (bought from Super Rupair, in Boulder) by a very knowledgeable and honest mechanic. This first trans was installed and it was either the wrong one or had the wrong settings. It was removed and sent back to Super Rupair. They supposedly repaired the problem and sent it back for a second installation. It didn't work properly. They sent another major part for my mechanic to install, but it still malfunctioned to the point of being dangerous in slippery (ice, snow & mud) conditions. I have not had the use of this car for months at a time. As told to me by the mechanic, they promised another trans, but it never came. We eventually sold the car (for a lot less than it was worth) and informed the buyer of the problem. His use of the car was for local Estes Park driving and the problem was insignificant compared to the mountain curves through ice, snow and mud on storm mountain switchbacks the wife had to navigate. So I'm out $2000.00 plus what I originally paid to buy it, $800.00 and have it installed. We still have heard nothing from Super Rupair. read more

Took my Subaru in for scheduled maintenence before a long trip, although it was running fine and had no warning lights on, and was told it was past due for its timing belt change. Expensive, with a few other minor things they came up with, at 1500, but I wanted to make sure it was good to go so I got it done. 20 miles after leaving the engine light comes on and the parts place that reads it tells me it's the timing and I can't drive it like that. SuperRupair tells me not to drive it but it's definitely not the timing, has nothing to do with their repairs (coincidence at 120k miles that it cane on right after they open the engine up), and it will cost 100+ dollars to check it. They gave me a list of things it could be, everything other than the timing, apparently. 1500 dollars on a rather large engine operation and you can't check what's wrong when the check engine comes up 20 miles later? read more

I have been bring my aging Outback here for about 8 years and have found them to be fast and reliable. And oh yes: Honest. If it's a simple fix, they do it. This AM: The front windshield washer stopped working. They could have told me the whole system needed to be replaced. Instead, Aaron walked outside, popped the hood, showed me that a little tube had become so worn that it popped off. Then he went into part, got a new tube and replaced it. In and out in about 5 minutes. No charge. While he did that, I bought a long overdue replacement for my rear windshield wiper. He even popped that on for me. They have had all my business and they will continue to have it. read more

He flat out said he would not work on my car because it would cost more to fix it than it was worth and while that's not good news, it's better than getting taken advantage of. read more

Left our car there to have new tires put on. We wanted to take the old tires away with us since they had under 20,000 miles on them and were rated for 50,000. The tires were in good shape and could have been given to someone with a two wheel drive car but they "shredded our tires" without checking with us first. The situation didn't feel right. On top of this we received a call the next day saying that someone ran into our car in their lot. They did nothing, offered no help or support for us. They were very quick to offer help for the person who hit us saying they would do a fix and charge $200 dollars for it. Well we wanted a second opinion after feeling that we were taken on our tires and received a quote for around $650 to get it fixed. Long story short we took our car in to get work done and left with it damaged and received nothing for the inconvenience. It cost us money to have our car depreciate in value under their care and service. Very poor customer service from such a big named local shop. Will not recommend this shop to anyone in the future. read more
