I went to Thai Modern HUNGRY. I left not hungry as it has good portion sizes but ultimately I wasn't impressed. My friends that I came with rated their meals 4 and 5 stars. I'm a big fan of Thai food, but I have to admit, I was just okay with my experience. I tried the app sampler and the holy basil chili bomb. While I enjoyed the concept, I felt like it could have used more basil and chili for that real punch of flavor. They did bring out a spice tray for me to add more heat, but I expected the dish to be more vibrant from the start. The blue jasmine rice was cool to look at, but honestly, it just tasted like regular jasmine rice. I'm guessing they just added food coloring for visual appeal, which was fine, but I was hoping for something a bit more interesting. The restaurant has a few tables, but it's mostly booth seating, which are comfortable. The others in my group ordered the crab fried rice, drunken noodles, and pad Thai and more, which they seemed to enjoy. There was a sewage issue that caused a funky smell, but I'm not going to dock points for that. Stuff happens, and it's a reminder to be careful with what gets flushed down the toilet aka don't flush things down the toilet. Even if it says flushable. Overall, while the food wasn't bad, it didn't blow me away like I hoped it would. Maybe it's just me, but I wouldn't rate it as high as my friends did. I took my friend there because she wanted something quick after our hike, a lot of places were closed on Sunday. Sat down at the table everyone was nice and greeted us, it was my friend's first time eating Thai, so I recommended them to get either some type of curry or pad Thai stir-fry.. my friend ended up ordering the basil rice, which was very bland! While I had the Num Tok beef salad (delicious by the way!), we had also arrived there close to closing time, we had roughly an hour to order food eat and leave. My friend wasn't satisfied with the stir-fried rice, so I asked the waitress to help us out to doctor it up instead of sending it back to the kitchen and trying to order something else close to closing time, so I asked about getting a side of curry sauce to fix the bland rice... the waitress proceeds to say that will be five dollars... as someone who used to work in the food industry, why would you allow your guest to order something that you know is not representative of your Thai food (or any food) specialty, and then try to nickel and dime us for trying to fix your bland food!! looking back on it, I shouldn't have tipped, because they clearly do not care about the customers' experience!! The flavors at Modern Thai are enjoyable, but they might lack the depth and authenticity you'd find in more competitive regions. Dishes like the Pad Thai and green curry are good, though not quite at the level you'd get in cities with more robust Thai food scenes. That said, Modern Thai brings an accessible and satisfying Thai dining experience to the neighborhood. Honestly, I'd love to see more Asian options around here in general. Whenever we want Thai food, we pick it up here. There are 2 Thai food restaurant alternatives closer to where we live, but the food here is so much better, we drive the 20+ minutes every time. The service is great and the location is very practical if you drive from HW 85 towards Peachtree City. The food is about 30% more expensive than at the closer Thai restaurant alternatives, but the quality of food is so much better here, we feel it is well worth both time and money. read more

This is the best Thai food I have had in a long time. It's a hidden gem that is tucked in a nice strip mall barley visible unless you know where it is located. I had the fortunate opportunity to eat there twice in one week due to my wife(Chef Rita) being out of town. So when she is not at home, brother got to eat, right? Yelp is my food savior app which helps me to find new spots to try in the neighborhood. The place is nicely decorated and the service was awesome. One of the newest hidden gems in our neighborhood. Admittedly, it's been open almost a year, but we just found out about it. Lunchtime on a Saturday: we tried the appetizer sampler for a starter, and the crab rangoons were perfectly prepared. If I'm going to be decadent I want the food to be crisp on the outside and luscious on the inside. Our main course was their snapper with pineapple in a curry sauce. My family loves Thai food and we we looking for some alternative to driving to downtown Atlanta. So we visited on last Wednesday. the atmosphere was very nice but the staff not friendly and they were not friendly and wanted to seat us by bathroom and kitchen even though other seats were available, they ultimately bout our food to another table and it was sitting with another table for about 10 min. They noticed the error and tried to bring the food directly from that other table to ours, but saw that we knew what was happening so the waitress took food back to kitchen and it was about 5 minutes that they brought the food back to us, knowing full well that they did not redo the meals. I did not make a fuss about it but all I could think about is a person sitting over my dinner (maybe coughing or picking his nose) over our food and I just couldn't enjoy it. Preface: this is a review of dining at Modern Thai during their first week of operation. in April, 2021. None of the observations related to their start-up phase are intended as complaints. Just be aware that this may not reflect conditions a month or two later on, when they are in full normal mode... We dined here on a Thursday in the early evening. The restaurant is at the far end of a plaza, which is accessed via the traffic light on Hwy 74 near the Publix - Modern Thai is across 74 from there. The place has a 'fresh' look, probably as the new paint is barely dry yet. There is not much decoration, but that is likely still ongoing. An electrician was visiting while we were there, coordinating some project that was still in progress. It was sunny and the light started beating down on our table after we had ordered. The hostess was very nice about it and offered that we could move to another (more shaded) table as needed. I assumed that adding blinds to the windows is still on the near-term to-do list. As they are ramping up, they appeared to have a slightly reduced menu. However, it was easy enough to find standard Thai restaurant fare, which is also worthwhile as a first-time benchmark. We both got noodle dishes and split a spring roll appetizer plate. The spring rolls were good (and they provided 4; a lot of places just give you 3). I got the Pad Thai, which I thought just came with tofu; however, it in fact came with a number of shrimp (and some tofu). I am not a big shrimp fan, though my wife is, so that was easily solved. I often ask for my Thai dishes to be 'spicy' but I just let them provide it as-is. It was good - fairly typical Pad Thai. My wife got a Pad See Ew sort of dish, with the wider noodles along with chicken. She liked it. They currently do not offer wine or beer, though in my experience this is not unusual for restaurants when they first open. I've seen other cases where it takes a few weeks to obtain a liquor license. I have no idea what their plans are in this regard, though. Paying for the meal was slightly unusual. The waiter brought one paper receipt (for me to keep) and conducted the rest of the transaction on a handheld credit card machine. You end up selecting a tip and signing it on a touchscreen. This struck me as slightly cumbersome in comparison with the standard 'bring the customer 2 paper receipts and let them sign one' routine. It worked, though. Our initial experience was completely satisfactory. I was glad to see that they had opened for business. We may well return, but I think we'll let them mature and move beyond the start-up phase and see what things are like then. read more

Overall 3/5: Fairly new restaurant. Lots of potential for something great, but also a lot of room for improvement. Food 3/5: The calamari may look underwhelming when it comes out, but it is really good. It was perfectly cooked, and not too rubbery like some places go wrong with it. Our second favorite was the lollipop chicken, the sauce on it went really well with it and the meat was perfectly moist. We also got crispy veggie rolls and salad rolls which were pretty average. Nothing special really, can't go wrong with it. We also got the pad see ewe chicken which wasn't cooked properly. The noodles were rubbery and undercooked. Super tough to eat because it was chewy. The flavor on everything was great, it was just the technique that probably needs work. Service 3/5: Service was okay, nothing they could really do about being understaffed. That's not really why I'm rating so low, the rating is because everything came out super sporadic and random. Like we got one plate every couple of minutes. We kind of wanted to have everything all together, but we also didn't want anything to get cold. So kind of a bummer that everything had such weird timing. Environment 4/5: Superrrr nice inside. It's new and clean. Modern designed interior. The bathrooms were clean. Kind of awkwardly quiet inside. Could do with some music so we didn't feel like we had to whisper while we were talking. Felt like everyone could hear everything. The dishes and cutlery were all nice and matched the overall vibe. Lots of thought put into the interior design aspect. Excellent!!! The Holy Basil wasn't available so they gave us the Thai Basil... It was excellent. The flavor and spice was remarkable. The appetizer wings were surprisingly delicious. Thankful to have great Thai food right here in Tyrone. I only tried these two items, so I won't get carried away, but so far so good and I'm willing to go back and try more. I would encourage giving them a try. Not sure if they have a lunch menu, the dinner menu was slightly higher than I liked for the portion size but everything was cooked to order and the meal is WORTH IT! It's a small and clean little place. I came here last night and there was only one other table at 7pm. Ambiance is very nice. It's calm and relaxing. The server was very sweet. We got the Pad Thai Goong and the Catfish with Eggplant dish. I'm not a fan of sweet, so my sister enjoyed that dish but I love eggplant. It wasn't over cooked. Just perfect. We met the friendly owner/chef, who grew up cooking in her mother's Thai restaurant in San Francisco. Modern Thai is fairly new and has the potential to do well seeing as how they're one of the few Thai restaurants in the area but my experience there was very underwhelming. My to go order consisted of lollipop chicken ($9) crispy veggie rolls ($8) 2 Pad Prik crispy snapper entrees ($25 each) and 2 side orders of brown rice ($4). The food was cooked and ready to go after about 20 minutes. As far as the taste, everything was just mediocre. Nothing stood out and made me want to come rushing back. The lollipop chicken was the tastiest out of everything ordered 3/5 stars. It came with about 8 small chicken drumsticks fried crispy with a sweet honey garlic butter sauce drizzled on top. The veggie egg rolls were definitely a miss and had a weird after taste 1/5. They're served with a small container of pineapple chili sauce that slightly helps the taste. I've had better egg rolls elsewhere. The Pad Prik crispy snapper looked good but the taste was quite underwhelming. The snapper fillet was battered then fried and served on a bed of sauteed green beans, pineapple, and Kaffir leaves with a house made curry sauce 3/5. The thin sauce was sweet with a slight spicy kick. The trio brown rice was your typical brown rice but our order was clumpy and dry 1/5. For the price ($80 before tip) I expected better quality food than what we received. It's nice to finally have a Thai restaurant in that area but I probably won't be back anytime soon. read more
