We have been going to Dr. Emily Ehman for over two years now with both my babies and she has been nothing but kind and amazing. As a medical professional myself I am extremely picky where we go. I love the care we have received for both Squidward and Bella my 16 year old Boston terrier mutt who just passed away. I have referred countless friends who always call me after their visits and are grateful for the kindness modern vet has given them. Their prices are also very reasonable I appreciate Dr. Ehmans advanced training with my senior pup and trust her judgement. Without Modern Vet I don't think my senior pup would have lived to 16 she had chronic pancreatitis and did develop Gastric cancer which progressed quickly over the last few weeks. She was doing zoomies with arthritis and all up until her last couple of weeks. There is no cure or treatment for gastric cancer so we had to make the hardest desicion. The love and care modern vet gave us through Bella's last days was remarkable. The thoughtfulness of this practice is amazing. It's the type of vet that becomes family so quickly! I posted a review on maps but Dr. Ehmann flagged it and got it hidden. I'm hoping it can be seen here so people can know what happened to my cat. My cat had a traumatic full tooth extraction with Dr. Ehmann in June of 2024. He suffered tremendously and ultimately passed away. The full extraction was Dr. Ehmann's recommendation. When I went to pick him up after his surgery, he was returned to me in a very distressed state. He was howling and very agitated. His face was covered in blood. After the surgery he continued to decline. He was not eating, showed discomfort despite pain meds and was withdrawn and unlike himself since the procedure with Dr. Ehmann. There was zero follow up from Dr. Ehmann besides an automated email the next day. I let her know my cat was not doing well and that I was very worried. I waited all day to hear back. Zero response from her. I messaged her again that evening and she finally sent a two sentence response at 9pm. My cat continued to eat very little, I had to force feed him. He would turn his face away if anyone tried to touch it. I was so utterly distraught by the lack of follow up care and unprofessionalism displayed by Dr. Ehmann that I decided to bring my cat elsewhere for follow-up care. I emailed Modern Vet Care, clearly stated that my cat was unwell and that I was very worried. I asked for all my cat's medical records. I received everything except for the post-extraction x-rays which was the most important record that I needed from them. My cat then developed an oronasal fistula after the dental surgery. It was an opening in his upper gum that went through to his nasal cavity. He developed an infection from the fistula that further degraded his health. I understand that these fistulas can develop after dental surgery due to trauma caused by the poor extraction methods. I contacted the clinic and asked if they had taken X-rays after the extraction to confirm that there were no tooth fragments left behind which could be causing my cat pain. If so, I asked them to please send me the post-extraction X-rays. I got a response the next day that stated that they would look into the matter. A couple of days passed and I followed up again. There was no response. Then I sent a third message. I finally got another response from them that they were "downloading the files" and looking into the situation. I still didn't get the X-rays that I had requested. In total I asked them five times to send the X-rays and they did not send them. I took my cat to three other vet practices for follow-up care trying to find out what was wrong with him. Two of those practices requested the post-extraction x-rays from Dr. Ehmann and they were never sent to them either. Modern Vet Care did not even acknowledge the requests. From what I understand, a veterinarian is legally obligated to send records when requested by a client. I don't know why Dr. Ehmann did not send the post-extraction x-rays despite seven requests in total (five from me and two from two separate vet clinics.). My cat was not well and I wanted to be sure that his issues were not because of continued pain from the dental extraction which it seems like it was. I was not rude in making my requests. I have no idea why Dr, Ehmann could not send me the x-rays or even give an honest explanation for why they were not sent. I feel that Dr. Ehmann's conduct has been highly unprofessional and unethical. Furthermore, I question her ability as a veterinarian due to the suffering she inflicted upon my cat. I do not feel that she has the expertise to conduct dental surgeries considering how poorly she treated my cat and her absolute lack of follow-up care. I'm filing a complaint with the state about Dr. Ehmann's misconduct. I hope there will be some justice served for the sake of my poor cat who suffered tremendously and died. read more

This is a hard review to write because the vet here is wonderful and all the staff were wonderful until last year they added a receptionist who yesterday put the health of my pet in jeopardy. She took an immediate dislike to me when she started there and gave me attitude from day one. I've been going to this clinic since before this vet came and she was a big improvement from the last vet who was okay, but not great. so yesterday I called to let them know I needed medication (my cat has a chronic condition). the usual practice is I call and the meds are always ready within half an hour and I pick them up as soon as I can. yesterday she said she might get them ready yesterday or today. that annoyed me because it's her attitude. she said I'll text you when it's ready. I said okay. I never got a text, so I called late in the day to ask why and if /when the meds were ready. she said I did text you. I said I didn't get a text and asked her to email me a pic of her text. she sent a pic of an email, I checked my email but didn't get one. i sent her the pic of my texts from the day. no text from them although i often get texts from them. I am extremely busy and that's why I love this place before she worked there because the staff and the vet were very accommodating. when I got there today to pick up the meds (which I needed by this morning - the reason I wanted them yesterday), plus I had to work today and couldn't go until early afternoon. when I got there there were patients waiting, the buzzer was removed from the door and the business was in darkness. the patients let me in - my cat needed the meds as the vet knew. I told her how upset I was and that her attitude problem had put my cats health in jeopardy, and she started screaming "you accused me of trying to murder your cat." no I didn't. I said I was going to get a new vet but would wait to say goodbye to the old one. eventually she came out. she said she no longer had any other staff and I was 100 percent in the wrong. with the lights dimmed, the bell off and no other staff it hit me that maybe they were closing down. anyway I feel sad. the receptionist attitude was annoying but life is short. if she hadn't started playing g games with the meds I wouldn't care that much. last time I was there the other staff told me they were always happy to work with me. sad. now I have to find another vet. read more

THIS PLACE WILL SCAM YOU! We brought our kitty Echo when we noticed he was very sluggish/not moving much. Dr. Emily Ehmann couldn't figure out why he was sick and insisted it could be something very serious. We did enema/fluids/bloodwork/ X-rays. All for her to say she doesn't know and might even need mri. We took him to a new clinic, turns out it's a respiratory infection! He's all good now but we will never recommend this place or trusting it again. Very clean facility for your fur babies . I had taken my 2 cats for visits and were happy with the care received . They do get a little backed up sometimes but they are worth the wait . My cats were not nervous or scared and let the technicians do their thing ! read more

We love Dr. Ehmann! She is kind and attentive and the staff is wonderful. They've completely modernized the system so all records are electronic, they match prices of competitors on meds for my pup. The office is really inviting now and I think even the office cats like it too. Dr. Ehmann started us on Prozac for my girls anxiety. She listened to our concerns and examined Lexi. After much discussion, we decided that the meds would be worth a try. Still in the phase of getting them into her system but Dr. Ehmann has been with us the whole time. She answered any and all questions we had about what we should expect and she's been very supportive. Although we loved the previous vet, we have really grown to love Dr. Ehmann and her staff. They are the BEST! I will always recommend Modern Vet Care to any and all Astorians that will listen. read more

This is heart breaking. My cat has kidney stones, and was under the care other owner - needing perscription cat food to ensure his health and well being. Not once did they tell me to come in to be visited by the new vet - they just approved my perscriptions when I placed the order. Today they told me they cant do that without seeing the cat. I made an appointment for my first day available and asked them to please just approve the food until next weeks appointment so that he can eat until then. The owner screamed at me and told me I am not a client there. I asked for my medical records for my cat which they bought out when they bought the practice and they told me they need to time to get that. So pretty much let me cat starve. When she screamed at me, I said its just kindness - I am a human and they told me that they do not care for humans. All I want to do is get the cat food my cat needs to survive and they will not help me. I have been coming here since Dr. Ehmann took over this location. (I was also here for the previous vet too.). My 2 dogs and me have no complaints. We have been coming for their shots, dental cleanings, heart problem (for one of them) Friendly and helpful staff Any medication they receive everything broken down in detail. Discussions before and after surgery. NOT a drop off and come back later to get your animal!! And follow up phone calls Would and do recommend! read more

They treated my brother poorly in front of me. Very disrespectful owner, these people do not care about animals they just want your money. If you want to feel like you are getting scammed then come on down ! The prices have went up here, prices are through the roof. it's a shame this place doesn't care anymore they were once good in the very beginning but then they changed all the prices. Now everything is over cost for low quality service. They should really clean the place up it's not the most pleasant smell or experience. They hire kids working at the desk and new vets with little to no experience. I do not recommend this location there is 100s of vets in Astoria. I don't understand why someone would come here. Please make sure you ask for prices ahead of time because you will be shocked. I hope the owner changes her ways she's a crook. read more

I went in with my dog earlier this week, First of all, they are incredibly disrespectful and show no sort of humanity towards me as their customer, no type of mutual respect given towards me whatsoever. I have been coming to this place since 2021 when it was run by the previous owners. I called the vet to set up my pitbulls bi yearly steroid shot for his horrible June and September allergies. My boy used to get rashes throughout the year and it would turn into hives and eventually blisters if home remedies with the steroid pill and Benadryl don't work. I have been going through my baby boy allergy problems since he turned a year old. Allergic to chicken, corn, string beans, maple trees, meadow grass, dust mites, pollen, etc. I give him omega and hemp oil along with probiotic and pumpkin supplement and coconut oil into his food and since I started that years ago he only gets rashes twice a year now instead of almost all year. White pigme pit bulls get the worst allergies. The new practice got me an appt the same day with my baby and they had the paperwork from his previous visits before and gave him his steroid shot and he was better within minutes. Afew hours later, his scabs starting coming off like crazy. Thank you for everything and making our first visit with the new doctor calming!!!!! I have to muzzle my dog at the vet and they put a towel around his head and he did much better than previous visits! I will keep coming here for vet services. read more

They are lying. My husband brought our puppy for vaccination. He states he wants the dog to get only 3 vaccines required by law. The doc gave the dog all 5 which is not safe for my little pomeranian puppy. When he went to pay he finds out he has to pay 90$. They told him the puppy got 2 more vaccines. I am so upset!! read more
