I found this person to be unnecessarily combative and unprofessional. My previous interactions (with the veterinarian and a male staff member who answers the phone) were both professional and pleasant. However, I would not actively seek this veterinary clinic again. I took my cat here for a regular physical, vaccines, and additional bloodwork tests because she's a mature lady. Exam was fine, a little pricey, but everything was ok otherwise. A week later, her blood test results came back. The vet promptly called to go over them. If your pet is in perfect health, you can stop reading here and take it to a friendly, neighborhood vet and be happy with that. The vet told me to take her to a specialist to look into the elevated calcium in the blood work. This is the strange part - apparently, this is unnecessary. There is no need to take a cat to a specialist (whatever that means) if the vet knows what to do next (which is to run additional blood tests, according to another vet I took her to). This tells me that although Dr. Tello is very nice, he doesn't seem to know much. So basically, I paid a lot for a vet that doesn't really know what he's doing? Lame! Took my lady cat to another vet in the city who was much more knowledgeable and less expensive. Won't be coming back here, even though it's so close to home. read more

I feel so lucky we found this wonderful veterinary clinic in our neighborhood. This is a small family owned clinic with a HUGE heart! Everyone is kind and dedicated to our pet's health and our peace of mind. Dr. Socrates is a little bit like Dr Doolittle: He communicates with the animals as much as with us the pet parents. The first time he met our kitty, he bowed deeply to him, and then greeted us. Dr. Socrates is a bundle of energy who took as much time as he needed to get to know our senior cat before carefully diagnosing and treating him. On our follow up visit, we had our other (feral) cat with us too. Dr. Socrates handled her with care and love. In his hands, she was as good as gold and better. She didn't make a sound. In short, I wholeheartedly and unreservedly recommend Noah's Ark to care for your pets. read more

I would love to give Dr. Tello and Noah's Ark Pet Clinic a 5 star review. The doctor is caring, and both my dogs who hate going to the vet seem to really like him. The only reason why I give it 3 stars is because they have begun to overcharge for all their services. I brought both dogs in for teeth cleaning in 2015, and the whole procedure with the tests was quoted $450, plus extra for any extractions, which I happily paid. In the end it was around $1,000 for two of my dogs. This year again routine cleaning, they charged us for every single test that was "necessary" in order for the teeth to be cleaned. This means that the price DOUBLED for one dogs teeth cleaning. This year we spent close to $2,000 on cleaning, tests and extractions. I checked my bills to confirm and yes, I had been charged double for the same thing. Not sure why they decided that the tests are no longer included when they are necessary for the teeth cleaning itself. I would happily pay for the tests if my pet had been deemed ineligible for anesthesia or cleaning but it had not been the case. The staff is wonderful and understanding but the prices have become astronomical. Needless to say I will not come back unless it's life threatening only. We stopped going here after a few bad interactions. First, they raised their exam fees. The base fee is now $95, which is ridiculous. This is a basement office in Queens, not a high tech operation in a trendy area. There's no justification for the high price. Secondly, the last couple of times we went we saw a different vet / tech, NOT Dr. Tello (I think that it might have been Dr. Tello's father?) even though that's who we made the appointment with. Not sure about the other person's training/credentials, but he wasn't as good as Dr. Tello in terms of ability to diagnose what was going on, recommending treatments, etc. and he seemed very unsure of what he was doing. There are other vets in the area that are more affordable - we most likely won't be going back here. read more

I initially really liked the doctors here, but then I had an awful experience. I won't go into details but it ended up being traumatic for me and my pet. I felt both of us were treated roughly-- my cat was mishandled and yelled at, and I was chastised multiple times while trying to get care because of their confusing instructions based on their desire for money. They charge $80 for a standard visit - much higher than other vets in the area (or even in wealthier neighborhoods in Manhattan and Brooklyn). The receptionist refused to give me a price range for blood work diagnostic testing (I use $50-250 as a baseline). I was not looking for an exact number but the receptionist was very evasive, "I cannot give you any sort of estimate over the phone. We will show you the full invoice before billing" - what they meant to say is "WELL, we will charge you whatever amount we deem necessary and you will be required to pay your invoice, but you're free to take a look at the breakdown." Experienced pet owners know to inquire about basic pricing lest they be rudely "surprised" when the invoice arrives. The fact that this clinic is so shady about their pricing is a huge red flag. I could not care less if the vet is the best in the neighborhood, I simply do not support businesses who try to be underhanded in regards to pricing for their services. read more

I am quite torn about reviewing this place. While there are definitely some pros, the cons are going to effect the stars I'm giving this place. Let me just start by telling you that this clinic is in the basement of a building. It's quite small, with the waiting area almost shoulders to shoulders if you have more than 6 people in there. You definitely wouldn't be able to bring in a large dog in when it's busy there. The staff and vet are very friendly. I brought both my cats in for an annual checkup, updating shots and a consultation for dental work. They handled them calmly, especially one of my cat that's really fidgety. They call back for follow up and the receptionist was nice enough to call a cab for me. However, I did told them before I came in to the clinic and while I am there that one of my cat is really fidgety and hates leaving the house. I told them to make sure that they get everything done in one visit so the next time I bring her in, we can proceed to cleaning her teeth. Well, that didn't happen. The vet suggested a few tests to see if she can be anesthetized, which I agree on. A few days later, she called me with the results and wanted to do more tests on her (which she could have done when I visited the clinic earlier). So, despite the fact that they were nice and friendly, they weren't really listening. Wasn't really a fan of the small space either. Wish they were better because I paid them $700+ on my first visit and they probably will make another $1000 if I came back for more tests and dental work. However, that's probably not gonna happen. read more

I am so happy to have found Noah's Ark! Dr. Tello and the staff are very caring! They always call to follow up on all our pets and are very helpful and accommodating when scheduling visits (even unexpected ones), especially if you and your pets are regulars at the office. The facility is... SMALL! But clean, and organized enough that it works. I would love to see them move to a bigger location, but I know the facility seeks to continue to provide services in Jackson Heights. The wait time can be on the longer side (especially on saturdays), but well worth it for a good vet. All veterinarian services are expensive no matter where you go. However, I honestly feel the prices at Noah's Ark are reasonable (not completely outlandish like other clinics in the area). The last time I took my cat for a full exam (including all vaccinations) I spent $130.00. Thank you Dr. Tello and staff! P.S. I wouldn't recommend coming here. The consultation for a physical exam is overpriced, ESPECIALLY for first-time clients. Dr. Tello miscalculated the extent of my pet's condition and had me paying for supplies to keep the pet stabilized when it wasn't necessary. He barely had time to speak and go over exams in detail. They were always vague, and whenever I had to stop by to restock on these supplies, the other vet Dr. Crawford was there. Her along with her staff would constantly pressure me to see a "specialist"--(at a place called Blue Pearl which basically seems like a death sentence service regardless of your pet's condition)--for further examination when I couldn't afford it after $1000+ in expenses. On top of that, Dr. Crawford told me if I didn't go, my pet would DIE. Just like that. But she couldn't tell me from what. So why say that? What was the specialist going to do that they couldn't? By the way I witnessed a cat that died there on the spot when the owners had an appointment but kept begging for the vet because it was an emergency, but neither the staff nor the receptionist seemed to give a damn. No sense of urgency at all. That definitely added to how I looked at this place and immediately I went somewhere else more sympathetic for a 2nd opinion. There they asked me why some exams were halfway done from Noah's Ark and I was just pissed. I trusted Noah's Ark and they didn't give a shit about the stress they put on my pet and I. They only cared about the money, not how many trips and pricks my pet endured. My pet had some x-rays done elsewhere and came out absolutely fine, and they even waived HUGE fees in consideration so thanks for the scare Noah's Ark. I'm never coming back. Based on my cousin's recommendation, I brought this abandoned kitten that I found in Brooklyn to Noah's Ark for a check-up because there was a mucus forming in between the kitten's eyes. The staff all took pity on the kitten when they discovered it's abandoned. They did their very best to accommodate the kitten's needs til the day the kitten's organs failed. Dr. Bunni Tan was very nice. She even gave me 5 free cans of Science Diet for the kitten on the very first day. Dr. Tello was intelligent, as though he is the "Cesar Millan" of this clinic. He was the one who tried to revive the kitten when the kitten's organs soon began to fail. The receptionist & the female vet assistants were kind & compassionate. Though my kitten has passed away, I'll never forget the kindness that Noah's Ark has shown to him when he was stlll alive, even just for 9 days. When I rescue another abandoned kitten, I'll definitely go back to Noah's Ark. I had to write another review for Dr. Cesar and his staff just because they manage to blow me away again with their service and family attitude. We are going on vacation and wanted some input on flea/tick/mosquito repellent and after a lot of net surfing, I was more confused. I called, stated my concern and 15 minutes later Dr. Cesar called me back. He spent a good deal of time discussing the products out there, what is needed for my dog and his suggestions. He never rushed me off the phone and was very helpful. I ordered the flea/tick stuff online however, the HeartGard you need a script and I found it easier just to go to Dr. Cesar and get it from his office and his price was comparable to online stores (ie 800PetMeds, Amazon, PetCo, etc.). I go to his office and I forgot my wallet and without issue or prejudice, they gave me the HeartGard and said just call us with CC number whenever. That is great service to me. I travel to Dr. Cesar from Astoria because I have heard bad things regarding vets in Astoria. Dr. Cesar and his staff were great with my cat Jerry and answered all my questions. I've seen him twice and plan on bringing both of my cats in for their yearly checkup. The waiting room is small, but I've gone here twice and it's never been an issue. It's hard to find an honest vet, but Dr. Cesar discussed the tests he was going to run before he did it and worked with me to drive the cost down. When a vet charges you $25 upfront just to secure a visit, that's when you know they can't pay their rent and are money hungry. IN 30 YEARS OF DOG OWNERSHIP -.-.- WORST. EXPERIENCE. EVER!!! DO NOT GO HERE!!! PRICE GOUGING, TAKING ADVANTAGE OF YOUR STRESS OVER YOUR PET'S INJURY!!! DO NOT GO SEE KENYA CRAWFORD!!! I only chose this vet clinic based on the great reviews when my 50lb Standard Poodle service dog was injured when someone stepped on his foot on the subway. * They make you PAY $25 to make an appointment! (Just in case you are a no show?) It goes towards the bill, but what if you decide to cancel? * The office waiting room is small, cramped and dirty. I would have left right then if I hadn't had to give them $25 to walk in the damn door. * There is ONE exam room which is not the most organized or clean I have ever seen. * When they lifted him up to put him on the table, it was like they had never picked up a dog before! The crushed his injured foot against the table top TWICE!! * They looked at his foot, palpated his toes, wrapped it up and brought me a "Care Estimate". Now, I told them before I even came in that I am on a LOW FIXED INCOME and that he is my SERVICE DOG. They told me when I made the appointment that that would be taken in consideration. If this is "consideration", I would hate to see a non-"considered" bill!!! The estimate was "Low End" and "High End" and when they went over it they tried to make me feel guilty if I chose the low end option like I was not doing what was in his best interests and because I couldn't afford more. They wanted to do THREE x-rays (Keep in mind this is a TOE!!!) while under sedation. SEDATION! And they insisted on him being sedated thus requiring all the pre-surgery bloodwork to show he could "handle" being sedated. Then they wanted to farm the X-ray reading to a specialist adding another $70! The High End estimate was a little over $850!!!!!! The Low End which basically antibiotics and a self-adhesive bandage was $280. Yep. AND he needs to come in for a recheck in a week for "$45". * My husband came home from the vet and they charged us another $200!!!!!! $60 for a bandage change! A cheap rubber self-adhesive bandage and some gauze. They gave us a cream and another antibiotic. They told him that his foot didn't heal because we didn't change to bandage often enough. We changed it on the days they told us to. (The bandage they had put on had to be CUT OFF leaving the exposed skin raw and bleeding. Why would you put bandage tape directly on an open sore?!?!?) I have NEVER seen such blatant mistreatment and over-diagnosing and billing practices. I will be calling the state veterinary board on Monday. SAVE YOURSELF THE TIME AND HEARTACHE AND DO NOT GO HERE!!! read more

My puppy got upset stomach because of change of food product, I'm a worried pet owner so I bring my pet in there clinic. They give so much meds and stuff and ending up charging $348 for diarrhea. By, the end of the day my pet was ok and feels nothing happens without administering the meds that they prescribed. They ask me to bring stool sample the next day and asking for extra $75. It seems they over charge for every questions you asked so it's uncomfortable for me to ask more and they recommend more stuff it means more "BILL". That's good sales talk though. Btw, my puppy was 3.28lbs and they charge me 10pcs 18 gauge needle for self administration of IV fluids.. But the one that they demo in the clinic was a butterflie needle that was for infant used. And the nurse told me : "just watch Youtube of how to do it again". If I were you go somewhere else. read more

The staff at Noah's Ark sure do put on a courteous and friendly demeanor but that really isn't helpful when it comes to down to the true identification of the health problem and treatment. What is important is finding a professional vet who is knowledgeable in the physical state of our pet children, as well as the psychological insight to handle our animals with care and understanding their behavior; This is much more important rather than to misdiagnose a pet for monetary gain. read more

I've been taking my dog to Noah's Ark for many years. Pros The staff and veterinarians seem to genuinely care for the animals. They always greet my dog in a friendly manner. Dr. Tello received his degree from Cornell which known for their amazing vet school. Cons They have limited hours, no evenings or Sundays which is difficult for anyone who works full time. They're expensive and always try to push extra treatments and tests that are not absolutely necessary. If you refuse their recommendations, instead of working with you, they make you sign a legal document absolving them of responsibility. Every single time I've refused something, its been a good decision. Dr. Tello does not explain the costs of treatments himself; he leaves it up to his assistants. I would prefer to discuss it with the doctor directly. Bottom line: they're ok for regular vaccines but if your pet has an issue that may require more than one visit, look elsewhere. read more

This guy. Unbelievable. After a nightmare scenario involving a sick cat and two incompetent vets, I called Dr. Tello for advice. Without ever meeting me or billing me for a dime, he spent half an hour on the phone talking through my problems, and provided a referral to a specialist. During this call he listened carefully to my story, generously offered clear and thorough advice, and was not afraid to tell me what I didn't want to hear. A few days later, after seeing the specialist, my cat took a turn for the worse and we were forced to euthanize in the middle of the night. The next morning my phone rang - it was Dr. Tello calling to offer his condolences. I just can't say enough. I still haven't even met him, but his help has been invaluable to myself and my fiancée during a terribly difficult time. I brought my 17 year old blind cat, Milo to Dr. Cesar Tello, based on Yelp reviews and the enthusiastic response to my questions while visiting the veterinary ophthalmologist - Dr. John Sapienza, a world-renowned specialist spoke very highly of him at our last visit. I was pleased with the calm and pleasant staff, and was just bowled over by how Dr. Tello handled my old guy. The exam was thorough, and all prices were disclosed before any treatments or tests were recommended. Dr. Tello spent whatever time was needed to determine Milo's needs and sent me away feeling quite confident about his advice. I must also commend all of the staff - reception, vet techs,etc - for their warmth and professionalism. Yes, the office is tiny, but well-run, clean and pleasant. I was not pressured into tests or shots, indeed, at Milo's age, and with his chronic eye problem, Dr. Tello recommended against any shots or tests that might cause him physical or emotional distress. I have been going to Noah's ark pet clinic for around 4 years now and I would have to say they are super helpful and accommodating. They were comforting when my cat was extremely ill and had to be put down. Again, when my other cat was sick. Although it is expensive, they do their best to get to the bottom of the illness as quickly as possible. Also, those who have pets should look into pet insurance as it helps soften the blow of expensive pet bills.
