I should have paid attention to the reviews. Modern Vice is a scam. Why do I say that, because I got suckered into their 60% off sale last December. I intentionally ordered a quick ship item so that I wouldn't have to wait months for my boots. As weeks turned into months, I had to proactively keep asking them what was happening with my order. I was consistently told 7-10 days, 2 more weeks, until we were near the end of March. The only reason I got a refund (after multiple requests) was that I finally told them that I was going to dispute the charge with my bank for fraud. This is not a way to run a business. I am the granddaughter of an Italian cobbler, so my standards can be impossible to reach. Modern Vice not only met these standards but raised them-creating a new set of archetype criteria that only some may ever hope to achieve. As many people know, footwear as a form of art takes time, creativity, and patience.  Jordan, the company owner, personally reached out to give me shoe updates, and their staff service support was parallel to none. I had a lovely woman help me and then the designer Jordan offered to put rubbers on the bottoms free of charge as I was worried about them being slippy in wet weather. I recommend going to NYC and buying off the rack since it sounds like some people have shipping issues. Also, its a very small operation, essentially a ma+pop, so nice to support it. Sad to say this company is a disaster. I honestly don't know how they are functioning at all. I ordered 1 pair of boots about 2 yrs ago and got them albeit much later than they said. But I then ordered again in Nov last year. I'm now trying to get a refund as I never received the boots. Still waiting on the refund. The admin side of the business is just a mess and will ultimately probably take them down sadly. I would never order from them again even though I do like the first pair of boots that I got but they are so unreliable. At the end of my return/complaint process, MV reached out to confirm that they did indeed process my return and, as an act of good faith, sent me a pair of shoes at no extra cost. While I do appreciate the gesture, I still believe that their online experience requires a lot of work re: the way they approach purchases and customer support--the experience was really frustrating and until that changes, I can't say that I'll be planning to order anything from the website. I hear the in-person experience is positive, so maybe that's the way to go with MV for now. Original Review: I've never done this before and wish I didn't have to, but I would be doing people a disservice if I didn't share my experience. The truth is, I would give them zero stars if I could. Please, PLEASE be careful before you decide to spend $150+ here. First of all, let me preface this by saying that I ordered from MV back in 2015 and that order/experience went well. It took well over a month for the shoes to get to me, but at least they said that would happen as they were made-to-order. Now onto my recent experience. I placed an order for one of their "Available Now" items a few weeks back in early July. According to them, "Available Now" pairs ship within 48 hours of purchase. That is an absolute lie (based on my personal experience). It took almost a month for the shoes to ship. When I initially contacted them about it, they said they were having trouble due to high volume and promised they'd ship them as soon as possible--that didn't happen until about 1 1/2 - 2 weeks later. Fast-forward to getting the package: They sent me the wrong shoes in the wrong size. After I contacted them about it, they sent me a return label, urging me to mail the shoes back right away because it would expire after 24 hours. They also offered me free shoes in the process, which I imagine is a go-to damage control tactic. At this point, I just want to get my money back so I can put an end to this awful process, so I asked to be refunded (twice). They said they could not do that until they received the pair they sent me (company policy), so I accepted that and decided to wait. They've now had the shoes for almost 5 days, yet they haven't bothered to reply to my emails or process my refund, which I find completely unacceptable and disrespectful and is making me want to file a complaint with the BBB. I can't imagine myself supporting or recommending this brand to anyone after realizing how badly they treat their customers and how terrible their process is. I was concerned about the wait time and lack of update so I reached out to the company through their online chat service and heard back very quickly from Sara. She assured me that my shoes would arrive soon (still within the 30-45 business day window) and provided great customer service. I hate writing this review but I want to help others make a good decision. I waited a month after my entire story had concluded, to make sure I wasn't angry. Modern Vice (MV) is a mixed bag. While I don't completely discourage from buying from MV....BUYER BEWARE! You should know it all before you spend $200 or more. Number one: The boots are uniquely stylish for the price. They always have promos so you can get a high fashion style boot for the price of a typical, high quality but basic boot. Number two: You will have to wait several months. Sadly, MV isn't going to tell you that. They have a few items in inventory that can be shipped upon ordering but mostly, the boots are made to order. I placed my order for three pairs of MV boots in November of 2017 and didn't have all the boots until mid March of 2018. If they had been honest, I'd have still ordered from them and the other issues wouldn't have been AS upsetting. Number three: The quality isn't consistent. The best thing to do if you want a pair of their boots is to go into the factory/shop and try on both boots once they've been made, before you take them home. TRY ON YOUR PAIR-BOTH FEET. These boots are hand made, not machine made so they are not always the same. I believe MV would address your issues and make sure you have a boot you can wear, but it is going to take a while and I don't recommending doing this if you can't do it in person. I didn't do this as I live on the West Coast and ordered on line. I've never had any issue ordering shoes on line, but two of the three pairs of MV I ordered had flaws in how they fit that makes them unwearable. Number four: The customer service is very lacking (although it appears if you are face-to-face with them, that is different). While MV took my money the second I ordered from them...and sent a dishonest email invoice saying the boots would be coming in 15-20 days, the process to get my orders filled took nearly four months, by the time I got the boots, I was tired of dealing with MV and I'd given up. After all the texts, emails, phone calls and social media interaction, I couldn't deal with this anymore. I can't imagine sending back the boots and waiting for another pair or trying to wrangle a refund out of them. When I did talk with them, they were nice but they were dishonest from the start to the finish, about how long things would take. Number five: They are trying to stop all these negative reviews by giving away free boots. They had some Vice Bolts in my size, in inventory so they sent them to me. I ended up with two lovely pairs of Vice Bolts for free, to make up for the troubles. In the end, four months, lots of frustration and about $600 later, what I have is two unwearable pairs, a pair that needs a lot of breaking in and two pairs that fit nicely. You can decide if this is worth it to you. I don't think I'd have done it, if I'd have known it would be so hard. I have gotten a lot of compliments and inquiries about my Vice Bolts. All I can do, to be fair, is share my story. Based on the other reviews, it seems like the issues are still present. I really wanted to order a pair of the Classic Jetts....they are SUCH great boots but the dishonestly and the inconsistent quality and sizing (combined with me not living in NY) have made me not willing to even try again. The confirmation also noted that should the order be delayed, I'd receive another email. 20 business days went by, so I wanted to check in on the status of my order. Their phone number? No answer. My email? No response. My comments on Facebook and Instagram? Ignored, just like those of everyone else who I saw inquiring about their orders. I finally reached out via Facebook messenger and got a response. SURPRISE! I was told it would take up to another two weeks. Another almost two weeks goes by, and I receive a response to my email from three weeks prior, telling me that shipping and production will take another two and a half weeks. At this point, I don't want the boots. I've spent two months waiting and the excitement is gone. I want a refund and to never see another ad from this company again. They continue to run sales, but can't keep up with the orders they have. My issue isn't with the manufacturing time, I understand these are made-to-order boots, it's with the lack of communication and failure to meet dates set by the company themselves. So I'm not exactly a girly girl & I'm considered tall. When I eventually connect with an item that empowers me while not exaggerating my height it's a beautiful thing. He explained that the all-leather sole composition is part of fine Italian construction (but I'm still unclear about the heels and why they wore so quickly). I wish I did not have to do this... Sadly, Modern Vice has been a MAJOR disappointment in customer service and timeliness. And "MAJOR disappointment" is an understatement. I gave them chance after chance to resolve any lack in service by reaching out to them via email and on their website chat, but after one or two order update requests (for 6 weeks of delays), they simply stopped responding. I have been waiting over 8 weeks for my second pair of boots and after telling me "two weeks left" 3 weeks ago, I'm finally turning to Yelp. Modern Vice owners, I even sent a nice, informative email trying to help you to set your customer expectations so they know their boots will take months. Setting proper expectations would help alleviate the exasperation all the 1 star reviewers are experiencing! Of course, no response. I love your boots, but your service is HORRENDOUS. Don't buy from this store online. I saw a 60% off sale for a pair of boots I really liked and jumped at the chance, but I regret buying from them online. They had me send them an outline of my feet and about 6 different measurements from each foot to ensure fit, but when they arrived the boots are so tight I can barely put them on without socks - not at all with socks - and they cut off blood circulation around the calf. They're so tight the top of the metal zipper sits against my skin and rubs painfully. They also arrived with a cut or tear in the leather, and the soles have absolutely no grip at all (I'm slipping even walking normally on wooden floors indoors). Additionally, when I purchased them, I was told they would ship in a week and a half and it took a month, despite multiple emails from me enquiring about it. Their communication was unreliable and hard to understand. The style and construction of the boots is nice, so I would potentially buy from them in the actual NYC store, where I could try the boots on and then buy them, but it was a sucky process online. Don't buy from this store. I ordered a pair of boots in November that didn't come in until mid April. Their customer service is awful. After them being two months late, they stopped responding to all of my emails, and no one would even pick up my calls. I emailed for months asking for a refund, no response. They finally shipped after I'd already asked for a full refund. I finally got them, but they're so narrow I can't even get my feet in them. I'd totally return them, but I don't want to have to go through the hassle of communicating with this company again, so I guess I'm stuck with very expensive shoes that I can't wear. I ended up contacting my bank and reporting this company for fraudulent activity once they stopped communicating with me for weeks (calls, emails, Facebook messages) and the shoes were months late at this point. Once they shipped, I called my bank and told them to cancel my report. A week after I received the shoes, I got a call from a man who works for MV who was incredibly rude to me and basically demanded that I cancel the fraudulent claim (which I already had). I should add they sent me a free pair of shoes after about a month of the shoes being late, which was kind of them. When they man called me, he threw that in my face and said I should be happy because I ended up getting to shoes out of this whole ordeal, when I didn't even ASK for those shoes, nor did I even want them. Funny how when I needed to contact them, I got radio silence but the second they were upset with me, they were prompt to reach out. That guy was a huge jerk, the customer service sucked, and in the end, the shoes aren't even that great. OMG I have finally found my favorite brand!! I want give 10 stars! I can't believe how much I love my boots! They are so comfortable and stylish and such quality. These are really made from Italian leather and soles and components but are made right near TIME SQUARE - I can't believe it! I was fortunate enough to visit their factory myself and it's true there is a factory right in Manhattan!!!!You can see everyone cutting and working on the shoes by hand and it reminds me so much of my home in Italy! I am so lucky to have found this treasure. Each shoe is really stitched and made with passion and this is truly handmade which takes time. I have always believed that time is care and just like with fast food fast fashion is not the answer, who wants a lasagna made in 5 minutes?!? I was on a quick trip to NYC and decided to reach out to Modern Vice to see if they would be able to help me out. They said to stop by and they would help me out somehow. When I got there, The Staff there was PHENOMENAL. They didn't have the particular boot Style I ordered since they get a lot of their material from Italy(another place that covid hit hard) but they were still able to hook me up with another pair of beautiful boots. I am so thankful and happy with how they helped me out. Having physically been there I was able to see how well made their shoes are. Their team was meticulously making each pair of boots by hand. Seeing the process of how long it takes to produce a quality pair of handmade boots I completely understand now why orders are taking so long. Covid slowed everything down especially in NYC since Covid hit NY hard as it was the epicenter to the US. Rest assured everyone, they are working very hard to get everyone's orders out, please don't lose hope, and be very patient. I promise you it's worth the wait!!!! read more

Not only have they not made a wrong right, but they raised the prices on their website. They removed all inquiries and negative remarks from their Facebook and are trying to cover their tracks. I reported them to BBB and they claimed I was trying to ruin their reputation. But their reputation proceeds them. I don't have to do it, they are doing it on their own. Great selection of shoes! Shoes shoes shoes everywhere. You will most likely find shoes you're looking for here. Pricey shoes though, not cheap or discounted so if you don't want to pay a fortune for shoes, his won't be the place for you. Staff seemed busy, not too friendly or attentive. Like the décor of the place. Good neighborhood too with lots to do. There were not too many people when I was there, which is always a plus a I don't know anyone who would like a crowded store. It is better to shop in person here though as opposed to online as it would take forever to receive them. read more

Online buyers beware. I ordered boots in January. They said it could take as long as 60 business days. It's been 6 months. No updates, no replies. I think they're deleting negative feedback on Instagram. You can only see complaints on new posts or on their page at Facebook. Is this an epic scam? I am thoroughly disappointed. I placed an order on 2/8/19 and have yet to have received it. In my order confirmation it said it would take 45-60 business days, and I would be updated if it would be longer. I've received no updates and it has been over 60 business days. I emailed the address listed on their website to inquire, but no response. Tried calling the number listed on the website and on Yelp, and each time it says mailbox full and I couldn't even leave a message. At this point, I've paid hundreds of dollars for a pair of boots that I do not believe I will ever receive. I think my only next step is to contact the better business bureau. BUYERS BEWARE! Do not purchase from Modern Vice. I received my order 3/2 and wrote them an e-mail same day stating I would like to return. I e-mailed again on 3/5, and AGAIN on 3/11. I still have not received a response. After reading the other reviews here, I'm not even sure I would receive my refund should I do get the okay to send the boots back, nor do I think I should have to follow up multiple times to get my money back. Lesson learned. I will never purchase again nor recommend Modern Vice to anyone. read more

Oh they finally sent the boots... Too bad they were the completely wrong style and size from what was ordered. Ha, this place is a joke

My boots finally arrived. I really don't like to leave negative reviews however the quality isn't what I expected for the price & I shop & pwn plenty of Marsèll, Golden Goose, Gucci etc. The leather is so smooth it looks faux to me. I hope they age with some character. They did offer me a free extra pair for the trouble but I passed. But I appreciate the person who jumped thru the hoops to finally get them delivered. read more
