I have been coming to this salon for about 5 and a half months now and up until now I have held my tongue on my dissatisfaction on a couple occasions. In the past I have been made to feel inferior or dumb for asking questions about methods that were being used on my nails. I was there yesterday evening for an appointment and I am not very satisfied with the service that I received while I was there. The whole interaction left me feeling embarrassed and insecure about myself and the design I had chosen for my nails. I felt like I was being mocked and laughed at, not to mention the design is not the most accurate to the inspiration photo I had shown. I had to correct color choices that the technician had made for the design and the proportions of the design are off. I felt like I wasn't a priority as a customer. I am very dissatisfied with how I am feeling even still. After bringing it up with the business directly the only offer they are making is to adjust the design. It's not worth me coming back in for, in fact I will be taking my services elsewhere. I don't appreciate the mean girl energy in this establishment. I have seen the way some of the employees are treated there, I should have taken that as a sign not to come back in the past. read more

Today was my first time at Modeste and I enjoyed every minute of it. Kyle helped me make up my mind about which white polish to choose. He even showed me what both whites would look like on my actual nails. I liked how gentle Kyle was with my manicure. Past nail salon artists have always made my cuticles bleed, through cutting too deep or just being careless. Well, not Kyle!! My manicure turned out just the way I envisioned it with his help. In addition to the talented nails artists, I like the atmosphere at Modeste. The salon is chicly decorated, (right now for Christmas) and even has an Instagram worthy photo-op wall. The area where they have the pedicure chairs is cutely decorated with string lights and eucalyptus bouquets hanging overhead. Just absolutely loved the vibe and even got a little Christmas goody bag on my way out (that included a 10% off a future service coupon and a cuticle oil.) My regular tech was away several weeks for a funeral across the county and Moseste was nearby and I had used in the past when first moving to Knoxville. Even when they were Magic Nails on Broadway....and all that drama. So, I booked online with Andy, he was recommended. I had old nails to remove and kept Pink & White nails. Told at time of booking. He refused to do pink & white, called them old fashioned and suggested ombre. Also, he told me that he does not like late appointments, nor, would I have an easy time getting appointment in the future because everyone was on vacation and he doesn't like late appointments. He ripped off old nails with pliers he got from his drawer. He stated that he had no time for soaking because my time was 6pm. One of the nails popped off and my nail is GREEN. FUNGUS! First time in 20 years of nails...now IDK if I need to remove all nails, $65 lost if I remove all nails. SO please reconsider using these people. THEY APPARENTLY DO NOT ALWAYS STERELIZE TOOLS. I'm a regular at this salon however due to recent surgery and inclement weather I had to walk-in. No problem. I waited. I was asked to sit at a table where NOT my regular technician started on my nails, never engaging in any conversation or greeting which I later found out that he was on a call on his Bluetooth the entire experience. At first I dismissed it as a language barrier however when I was leaving he spoke perfect broken English to another customer. I'm not sure if it was his inattention or inexperience but he literally chewed up my cuticles with the nippers and drill on 7 out of 10 fingers. We did acrylic on my natural nail except for my two middle fingers nails as they were much shorter. I still ended up with super short nails. I'm new to this town, I had thought that this place is far from the big Vietnamese community so I had assumed they would not have any great nail shops. No matter I had to choose one to try. I came to Modeste nail spa twice, at first I did not know anyone, and did not ask anyone to do for me specifically, I just wanted to try the gel polish for my nails to see how they did. The results were really beyond my expectations, my gel nails are extremely detailed. This place seems to have given me great confidence, the 2nd time I came back I did the pink and white dipping powder which I always wear. It was great. The work came out way better than what I expected, no doubt about this place, for the next time I come back I want try to get my eyebrow tattoos done, as I was told that they do a good job on eyebrow tattoos here also. read more

In February I wrote a not-so-positive review about my experience at this nail salon. It was never my intention to harm the reputation or affect the business at this salon. The post was factual and no way slanderous. Nevertheless, apparently the owner read it and was offended and suggested that I remove the comment as the person in question was no longer employed there. No problem...or so I thought. Apparently once you post a review, there are no options to remove or edit it. Afterwards, I had been trying to get an appointment for 6 weeks and was always told "no availability" I decided to make an online appointment using an alias. I received a text my appointment was available, however, they must've deduced that it was me and sent a text stating my appointment was unavailable. I didn't read the text and I showed up at the salon at my appointed time. As I was picking out polish, the owner came to me and told me she sent a text stating my appointment was unavailable. Really? I asked about later appointments and she said no availabilities. Really? I then asked if I was no longer welcomed there and she brought up the previous post and said she asked me to take it down and I didn't. So I asked, "Are you saying you don't want my business anymore?" She kept referring to the post and the negative publicity, blah, blah. I explained that there is not an option to remove post and told her that I have since written a new review praising their services and techs. Question? If she thought my original post was unfavorable, what made her think I would not post about this incident? Again, I'm not trying to sabotage their business nor deter customers. I'm just stating facts and attest this incident is true. read more

Went in to have my dip nails shortened in length. The lady laughed at me and said I needed to get them redone. Will not be back.

I would not recommend and will not be returning. I had to ask 4 times not to Dremel my nails, each time I gad to be more and more forceful. I allowed to create porousness on existing gel, but not my nail itself or my cuticles. The aggressive manor in which my nails were files gave my great angst, these are my real nails, not fake acrylic. I also noticed inconsistent service, my sister and I both paid for gel manicures but she had some plastic sleeve on her hands and wrists, I did not. The end result was rough nail edges with my left four fingers not completely polished on the left side (picture added). read more

I got my nails done here for Christmas and I was not satisfied at all. I showed a picture of what I wanted and they just couldn't do it. They can't color match. They put three different colors of red on my nails. Then at the end they told me they couldn't finish my nails with the jewels that I wanted because "they're closed". Very very poor pedicure. Still had soft removable crude on my heels ( came right off when I ran my nail over it). Told them and they said because I got the basic pedicure it didn't include getting all the dead skin off and it was just dry skin and they tried to put oil on it. 27 minutes which included soak and polish time. $38.00 for actually a nail painting. Mixed experience here. Pedicure was great. The employee was very friendly and thorough. However, my gel manicure is peeling off from the nail bed 6 days later. The amount of polish was also inconsistent across fingers, and it was a glitter polish, so some fingers barely look glittery at all. I'm going to have to go somewhere else to get it fixed, since it's peeling off so badly. Probably won't be going here again. Non-gel manicure should have lasted longer than this. read more

Never again. I went in with long nails. Just wanted a regular mani, nothing fancy trim, shape polish. What I got was a mess . Cut so short why bother to polish, ragged and uneven edges, and smudged polish. Add the service which included being so busy looking at the front of the shop I felt like I was an inconvenience in her day and I can only be thankful that I wasn't paying for it, as I was using a gift card I had gotten for Christmas. read more

I've given them multiple chances, one nail tech insisted on using the wrong color after I stated that wasn't the color 3x. Additionally, a different nail tech made my nails very uneven and crooked with dip powder. I've had another occasion where my nails were left bumpy with air bubbles underneath.
