Review by licensed esthetician (5.5 years): I wouldn't recommend this place, not only are the business practices shoddy but there are multiple infractions against the state board of cosmetology guidelines. I went today and honestly should've left when unnoticed them. When I left, I honestly didn't inspect the nails because I get a men's manicure buff and shine. Simple, impossible to mess up. 8/10 nails are completely scratched by a machine she used and not buffed. When I got home I noticed, called and sent pics asking for just a refund of the mani (not even the auto 20% tip I give all service people as I understand the nature of the business). The owner refused. Honestly, terrible business practices. I plan to issue a formal complaint with the board of cosmetology once I've reviewed the regulations and identified all the problems. For instance: incorrect usage of barbicide; the washing machine front load door was entirely white (even though it is supposed to be see through) because it is entirely calcified with mold and mildew (I didn't notice till leaving when the door to the laundry was left open); dirt and grime on the walls of the bathroom; incorrect storage of supplies; cross contamination galore. Don't go if you have or want longer nails. Went for the first time yesterday... told the nail tech I wanted to keep my longer NATURAL nails but 2 were cracked so let's just add tips. Several times we discussed it. She proceeds to just start cutting them off and seem offended when I said I wanted tips now on ALL nails. She still didn't want to do it. I came here when I was having a really bad day to try and treat myself and the staff behaved as though my business was the most annoying thing that had ever happened to them. I asked for a classic French acrylic gel manicure. The man who did my nails repeatedly was getting up and doing other random tasks around the salon. He didn't look up or speak to me at all. He didn't even bother prepping my nails properly before applying the tips or acrylic -- didn't file my nails AT ALL, didn't clean them or buff at all and there were little pieces of dirt visible beneath the nail when he had finished (I'm a clean person. I wash my hands. I think the dirt was on their tools). The edges were horrific the tips were too thin AND uneven, and the acrylic was applied so carelessly that my nails were lumpy. When I went to pay, I could tell that the woman at the counter, the guy who did my nails, and another male employee knew that they had done a terrible job because of the way they positively STARED ME DOWN, as if to threaten me somehow if I didn't pay in full. I'm a really nice person and it was shocking to be stood down like that after THEY provided such poor service. The guy who mangled my nails stood there and watched until I had paid full price and tipped, then without a word walked off. The manicure lasted 3 days. The acrylic cracked and looked hideous when it began to grow because he had not filed down the bottom edge or trimmed my cuticles at all. Dirt got stuck around the sides of my nails. One fell off and I had to remove the rest myself. So much for self care. These people literally do not care about customer comfort or your nails. They don't care about their clients. Absolutely do not go here. read more

Pedicure's are great! HOWEVER, who ever answers the phone for this nail salon is so rude. Everytime i call she is so so rude. For example, I called today because my normal salon is closed on MLK Day. I wanted to ask if they would be opened since it's a holiday. The woman said "Inauguration day is not a holiday babes. but yes we will be open." GIRL. It felt so degrading, but also I'm not in the wrong because I am literally off on Monday for the MLK holiday. I just moved to the area and absolutely loved my nail tech back home, I was nervous to find a new one here in Knoxville. I tried one salon before I found The Nail Room and had a terrible experience, so I wasn't feel very confident when I went to my first appointment. Mary exceeded my expectations. She was quick, professional, kind, and did an incredible job. Daniel did my nails the second time and also did a fabulous job. This third time, Mary achieved my dream nails. This place is great. All of the staff are so nice and super accommodating. I'm not sure if they do walk-ins, but I recommend making an appointment. I've never seen them not busy. read more

Mind you the one hand that was soaked was soaked in ice cold water! The polish isn't even applied properly. There is a gap between the polish and the cuticle. It's so nice having a nail salon downtown! I've been a *handful* of times over the past couple months and I've been super happy with my nails and the nail techs. Every time I'm there, someone helps me find the exact color I'm looking for, which is extremely appreciated when there are so many options. They are appointment only and their website offers an online tool for booking which is super convenient. I haven't had to wait once for my manicure to get started -- even on a busy Friday afternoon! They recently opened a second location on Kingston Pike which I visited a couple weeks ago. I'll probably stick to the Downtown location since it's more convenient to me, but the Kingston Pike spot is much bigger and would be a better spot to go with a group of friends. (There's also a parking lot which is an advantage it has over the downtown location!). read more

We were in town for a wedding and badly needed pedicures. The phone line was down so we stopped by since the hotel was not too far from here~ and thank goodness we did! They were able to seat us for regular pedicures with about a 20 minute wait. The interior was very modern and they had a lot of color options~ The massage chairs were nice and I loved the scrub and lotion I didn't find out until too late, but they have complimentary beverages, so make sure to ask! I can not say enough great things about this salon but let me start with the cleanliness! When you come in, whoever is at the front will promptly greet you and ask for your phone to be sanitized then you'll wash your hands. This protocol alone makes me so comfortable but the salon itself is so well kept, well designed and beautiful on the inside. I've been here three times since mid August and each time gotten dip powder with Yun. All of the staff has been so friendly, kind and happy to help you but Yun has been my go to since my first appointment. I am obsessed with the place!! I was visiting my family while on break from school and desperately needed my nails done. I booked an early appointment and even showed a little early and they were ready for me! Phone was sanitized when I checked in and I was instructed to wash my hands immediately. Everything was so clean and everyone had masks on. I felt super safe! I got a pedicure and an acrylic nail fill and both turned out amazing. Also a great perk was the yummy sangria! Three visits and I'll keep returning! I love the atmosphere of the restored building and the view out the huge rear windows onto the trees in the hidden courtyard. The natural light can't be beat. The online booking system is easy and fast, and you get follow up text appointment confirmation and reminders. I've waited maybe five minutes for my tech once I arrived. Upon arrival, your phone and wallet are immediately sanitized, and you wash your hands. The pedicure chairs are new comfortable massagers, and the TV screens typically display Li Ziqi's shows or similar. The staff offer complimentary beverages including wine, a cocktail, water or soda. You can BYOB. In three visits, I've had three gel pedicures by three different technicians. The techs have all been warm, experienced and competent. I enjoyed my conversations with each. The gel pedicures take about 1.25-1.5 hours. And the first two lasted several weeks, so I had the polish removed upon return each time. On my most recent stop, I also had a manicure with buff (no polish) that looks great. Prices are average for an urban or suburban nail shop Knoxville, a good value here considering the atmosphere and interactions. Plenty of parking nearby, or easily walkable from the rest of downtown. I took my mom and sister here for their first (ever!!) pedicures. All 3 of us had both a mani and pedi. Risa did my pedicure and Yun did my gel manicure. Both did a wonderful job and I enjoyed my conversations with both of them! The ladies who did my mom and sister's nails did a great job as well, but I didn't catch their names. My mom is diabetic and was nervous, but her nail tech was very gentle with her, and she loved every minute of it! The previous reviews were correct. I made an appointment and was not seated until 30mins later. Wanted an ombre and ended up with pink and white. Never paid so much for a full set and with such a poor job. $80 USD I broke two nails during my trip here and had no choice but to go to the nearest salon. Normally your nails get file and shaped around the cuticle after the acrylic is set. You can see from the photos the quality of the job. read more

The employees are very nice but I went in last weekend to have my nails done and by the end of that week, 5 of my nails had chipped. I called them to ask them to fix the ones that had already broken and they said it had been too long and that they couldn't even fix the ones that had already broken (even though I have pictures of the nails broken just a few days after my appointment)! Very disappointed with this as I paid $60 to have a dip manicure that only lasted me a full 3 days. This has happened several times but I hadn't said anything about it until now. I got my nails done the other day, beautiful and I love them but the acrylic tips were put on incorrectly and left a gap between the top of my real nail and the acrylic tip. I looked it up and that could cause fungus and other issues. I am not very happy with this and am unsure of a solution but it cost too much to have this issue. read more

Best nail experience! I am visiting from out of town and needed to kill time ahead of my flight. After a long weekend of being on my feet, I was in need of a pedicure. After snagging a coffee at Jacks, I walked a few doors down to The Nail Room. It was the best pedicure that I've ever gotten! The salon was clean and luxurious feeling. I visited your nail shop for the first time ever, Friday, December 16th @ 3:30pm. The nail shop that I typically use is in West Knoxville. And that Friday, I did not feel like fighting Christmas traffic to go get my nails done. Instead, I took it upon myself to research local, walking distance, nail salons in my area. Your nail salon grabbed my attention based off the reviews I read. I called the shop to set appointment up and ask pricing. I pay $55 for dip and extension no matter the shape. Which being charged extra for the shape caught me off guard just as much as being charged for this terrible service. I left with my fingers cut up and my thumb, a chunk taken out of it. I was pleased with my nails. They weren't as good as I usually get at my nail salon, but I was happy. I wasn't going to complain about the uneven crooked nails. As I was just grateful to be able to get my nails done. I am also a service provider myself in the hair industry, the next day I woke up pretty pissed that I was even charge for this service with a whopping 15% discount. It was morally wrong to even ask anyone to pay when a chunk has been taken out of their finger. As a service provider, I also know that we all have bad days. And we take loses on those bad days. I've learned to take breaks when I need them, bc it's cost me more when I'm working and burnt out. Loss of income for not providing the service they deserved and loss of product for having to redo the color I messed up. I have shared this experience on my social media because I do not want this to happen to anybody else. I am having to take an antibiotic and at this point I'm just looking to get the situation corrected with a refund. I deserve that at least. I'm disgusted at the way this was handled it was very disappointing. I've corrected my mistakes many of times at no charge for any of the service and they were not even close to this. It's just the morally right thing to do. I've been trying to get intouch with them for a month now and haven't got any response back. Ownership needs work. read more

The Nail Room is excellent! We accidentally made an early morning appointment prior to opening and they still accommodated us with warm smiles. I went with my two best friends who are both pregnant and they really enjoyed the foot massage. The colors the salon has to choose from is a wide range too! I've been going to this location for a couple of years now to see the same nail tech who has always been really great. this time I saw a different nail tech who had more availability because I was only needing a manicure/pedicure with no polish, just trim and shape. the nail tech kept asking if I was sure that I did not want a polish and then did the worst manicure and pedicure I've ever had. none of my nails were evenly trimmed or shaped, some of my toes were bruised from him digging in with the tools, and a cuticle was cut and bleeding when he trimmed it. they also did not discount the price for not getting polish nor for the cut on my finger, so I paid $70 (plus the required tip) for my hands and feet to look worse than when I went in. read more

I left with chemical burns on my fingers because the technician didn't know how to remove acrylics properly. Or even do acrylics properly. My nails are flat and have no natural nail shape. I asked for pink acrylic and he used clear. I can see my natural nail underneath the acrylic. He also left my nails way too long. When I asked for this to be corrected I was ignored. The second picture is what I asked for, but the first picture is what I got. These are quite literally the ugliest nails I have ever gotten, and it is shocking that I paid as much as I did. First, they overbooked. My friends and I made an appointment and we were immediately seated, but everyone who came in after us had also made appointments and didn't get to sit until about half an hour after they had scheduled their appointment even though they arrived on time. Secondly, this business should not claim they are capable of doing an ombré nail design because the blending is unsightly as shown in the third picture. To top it all off, the edges were chipped and uneven, and one nail is completely slanted, as shown in the fourth picture. This would be acceptable if the price wasn't so high.
