Absolutely the worst customer service ever. I have been completely humiliated and on the verge of sobbing uncontrollably while speaking with them. If you are looking to be bullied, made to feel like garbage & worst of all emotionally broken definitely speak with an MID customer service agent. I highly recommend Alex if you are really looking to be treated especially horribly. My husband and I both work full time, and we have fallen in a bit of a financial crisis. I have no words to how I feel when getting off the phone with MID. They go above and beyond to make sure you feel like a complete failure. Do I really have to put a star? MID service sucks!!!! They cut off my power on a 40 degree rainy and windy day and the only explanation they gave us is that Solar city and MID are having problems and we are having to pay the price?! Which by the way is a total lie coz I called Solar City immediately. The best part of all this is (sarcasm) they told us they won't turn our Electricity unless our current bill which is not even due yet will be paid! Isn't it that for them to cut your utilities you have to be past due and they also have to give you notice to do it?! When I called MID for waiting too long for them to turn on my light which they said will be for a few minutes to until the afternoon.... The customer service put me on hold as soon as she heard my very " happy" voice and said that wait time is 20 min or leave my phone # for a call back ( very convenient). My husband called that same time but was able to get through can u imagine (grrrrr) and they told them they are turning them on on the # that they switch it off so we have to wait for our turn. How about giving priorities for the ones that you turned off by mistake??? Can't it be made priority? Or the balls of MID personnel too heavy to turn the switch on and all you can say is an empty sorry which by the way is non taken when we can't even cook nor get warm!!!!! read more

I wish I could give them 0 stars. I went in to set up service for the first time. I get there and the lady says she needs my rental agreement to set up my service while asking if the friend I was with lived with me. After telling her no he did not she kept asking if I was sure he didn't live with me. I go get my rental agreement and now I'm dealing with another person, who also asks if my friend is living with me. I tell him no he does not. He takes my agreement and goes to every person to show them the agreement then insinuates that I forged my agreement because there are 2 different dates on it. The supervisor comes over and is so incredibly rude and also tries to say it looks like I forged it. Then tells me I won't have power for 3-5 days because they need to send it to the research team to review it. After all that they call me the next day to tell me me they know my "boyfriend" is living with me so they need his social and is to set up my power. My landlord even emailed them telling them they are wrong. He doesn't even live with me and I've been without power for 3 days now. Thanks MID. read more

Worst company ever! Let's start off by saying their customer service is simply nasty, rude, unprofessional. One star is beyond what they deserve. With shortage on time on a hot summer day I called to activate their service. (New in the city of Modesto) after one hour on the phone I was able to get service activated. The following day I get a call from them stating I needed to go to their office to pay a 400 dollar deposit as well as to bring Ssn card plus an id. Id and deposit was oh right, but Ssn card??? Maybe it was a job interview?? After waiting in that long line I was told I had a balance of $600 dollars and if that I didn't pay it there and in cash I would not get any service?? Are you serious I'm new to Modesto and have never lived here before in fact I was coming from the Bay Area and had PG and E. I refused to pay a balance that did not belong to me. I was told my case?? What case?? Would be investigated and they would get back to me after treating me like shit 3 days later I get a call saying they had made a mistake?? Assholes read more

Absolutely worst. Their business savvy is stuck in prehistoric times. We cannot access the website to pay bills unless in the US. We can pay every bill in the US from where we are traveling (in the world), except MID. Horrible Internet server. Probably only services for a mile radius around Modesto. read more

My experience with customer service was not similar to those who complained about rudeness; the rep I spoke with was very polite. However, she was clueless and incompetent. I called in one time and the operator that was working lunch wouldnt allow me to talk before she halled off and transfered me to the wrong department. Each time I would call back she would do the same thing. Finally when I called back the 9th time I was able to keep her on the phone and when I asked for her name she told me "Switch Board Bitch" I asked her if she would give me to her supervisor and she told me to "Fuck off". I told her that I would find a supervisor weather she helped me or not. "Switch Board Bitch" told me that it was a waste of time and that no one would be getting in trouble. Told me to fuck off again and hung up on me. I was able to get a hold of 2 different supervisors and they did say that they were going to take care of the problem. I sure hope they did in all of my 30 years here on earth I have never been treated so badly. I wish we did have another company to choose from here in Modesto!! They let my sister in law turn off my utilities after I paid them. It was my house with my name on the deed. Something is very wrong here.

This is the absolute worst utility company. They absolutely refused to be helpful in replacing THEIR own lines when my solar company installed panels to my house. Additionally they recently made the requirement for anyone going solar to have a battery included with the solar installation. (why is this bad? because MID knows that you'll put less energy back on the grid so it's less deficit of them owing you and more opportunity for them to still charge you for the energy you pull from them.) Oddly enough they PROFIT from the solar provided by residents. Yet this is Modesto's only option for energy. A company ran by greedy people that actually prove that not only could they possibly care less but prove that they do not care at all. Don't believe me? Hang around the local office for about 15 minutes and you'll see local residents crying as they scrounge to pay their overly priced energy bills. read more

I'm so irritated by MID and their constant service interruptions. Supposedly it's to make repairs but why not do it at a better time. We get a notice sometimes only one day in advance and the time frame is always about 6-8 hours time span. So far we have 2 of these interruptions and we are in the middle of winter. We also own a reptile that relies on the electricity for his heat lamps. This is a very big deal as he could die if he gets too cold for too long. And their stupid notice says "We realize this may inconvenience you" It isn't an inconvenience, it's a life or death issue, my pet is part of my family. Even battery powered heaters don't last as long as their outage is supposed to and kerosene ones are not suppose to be used inside. Not to mention there is a hospital and assisted living facility in my neighborhood. Sure hope they have generators or back up electricity. Maybe schedule the repairs for summer or don't wait till the repairs can't wait. Or maybe even give people more than a days warning so they can make arrangements? read more

Called 3 times today, am trying to pay my bill but thanks to the "new system" they put into place I cannot login to my account, it seems I no longer have an account online. So I made a new one with same username ( which it allowed me to do so) but when I type in my account number to create a new account it says unable to do so at this time please contact administrator. So I tried calling, after ringing for a couple minutes I got a recording saying we're having high call volume call back later and hung up. Apparently this company doesn't want peoples money but will charge late charges when its not paid on time. So I call back a few more times all with it ringing for about 3 minutes and then hanging up on me. I never even get the message of call back later, it just hangs up! Maybe MID should plan a little better and have more staffing if they're going to pull this new system crap and not have any of the online accounts working!. So frustrating. I don't even want to pay my bill if they're going to make it this damn hard to do so! read more

MID should be out of Business. I received a threatening call fro MID that my service would be shut off because I did not Pay my bill. My credit score is around 750-800. They want a $200 deposit so probably they can make interest. I have plenty of money to pay the bill. The Problem is when I set up, I got no E-Mail, No paper bill ,no account number and no one told me how to pay the bill, or anything.I called them back and they stated it's there normal process to VERBALLY tell you to pay the bill and how that's handled. I have not heard any disclosure when you call them that phone calls are recorded, so legally, they don't have a right to. So if they supposedly VERBALLY tell you to pay the deposit , the account number and how to pay it then how can that be verified. I have never heard of a business that does not send a bill and a confirmation E-Mail. I will report them to the Better Business Bureau because I don't think it's legal what they are doing. It is certainly unprofessional and to resort to making petty threats they are no better than criminals.You know when I found out how to pay the bill I paid it right away. read more

Felt like I was speaking to Mr. Potter from the movie Its a Wonderful Life. Have spoken to agents Susan and Francis and after being humiliated and shamed into totally disclosing all of our our monthly income, was approved for a small extension to pay our bill plus an extra $75.00 which was more than what we owed. I cant speak for any other customers but we pay our bills and dont expect freebies, sometimes, we just have a hard time. I have been told we could turn off our air conditioning and "sweat it out" as an alternative to cooling an already too hot house. Have been told "just pay it, its only $500, its not that much." I sincerely hope that someone finds the money and time and legal counsel to thoroughly investigate and bring this whole criminal institution down, its always been my experience that any place that allows its agents to speak to its customers the way MID does can only be a fully illegal, unethical and corruptly run place. read more
