Started coming to Wuhan Noodle during the pandemic, partly because of the name (yeah, I was curious), but mostly because the food turned out to be seriously good. I still find myself coming back every now and then. It's a cozy little spot with super friendly staff who genuinely try to make sure you're happy with your meal. Nothing fancy, just low-key comfort food that hits the spot. My usual go-tos are the Wuhan Dry Noodles and the Beef Noodle Soup. I always tell them to make it as spicy as possible, which I love, but probably not for everyone. This time around, I stuck with the Wuhan Dry Noodles, and as always, they were perfectly satisfying with that serious heat I crave. We also shared Siu Mai this time. I was skeptical about this place, stuck amongst a slew of fast food types of Asian foods at the base of a residential complex, I was pleasantly surprised by how tasty and fresh this was as I was starving after working a tradeshow close by. This place is good for a quick dine in with a simple menu and small casual clean store front. We ordered the beef noodles in both the dry and the soup noodle. Personally I liked the dry more as it was more flavourful. We got them in mild spicy as it was my first time here but I think definitely would go for regular spicy next time as it was a little bland for me. I did like the noodles itself so perhaps I just needed the extra kick. For the price for the noodles with meat and veggies plus a pop, it is quite decent nowadays but this is definitely a more "no frills" kind of price. Small noodle shop located in the condo area by Warden and 7. The staff are friendly and attentive and patient when they were explaining the menu items and what drinks came with the orders. We went with the dry beef noodles and the spicy soup noodles. Overall, the noodles tasted fine; the dry noodles came with thin slices of beef and some pickled carrots and beans mixed with a house sauce. The spicy beef soup noodles came in a beef broth with slices of beef, onions, and bok choy. Both noodles were good but we found it a bit lacking in flavour (perhaps it needs a bit more spices). I finally visited for lunch, and got the Wuhan dry noodles ($7.99). I love any type of Chinese dry noodle, and these ones definitely did not disappoint. I love the pickled veggies included in it! The portion was so big that I was able to eat the leftovers the next day, and the noodles were equally good cold! They also gave us a free drink with our noodles. SERVICE | A cute husband and wife duo own this restaurant. Visiting them just reiterated how unjust, unfair, and completely untrue all of the negative comments were. They were the friendliest owners ever, constantly checking up on us and making light conversation throughout our meal. They also had some cute phone cases for sale, and they gave my friend and I a small discount because we bought so many! We Support Our Local Businesses !!! This Local Family Run Restaurant serving fantastic dry noodles in the Wuhan, China Style came under some scrutiny earlier this year. Being someone who eaten at many restaurants in the Liberty Square Food Plaza and as someone who has eaten here before, I decided to bring our Food crew down to Wuhan Noodle 1950 to show our support. The signature dish at this Noodle House is the Beef Wuhan Dry Noodle and you can't go wrong for a quick high-quality Noodle Bowl. We ordered some of our favourite apps and bowls and went to town. We loved every bite and I'm sure we will be back. Earlier this year and due to the fact that the restaurant simply had Wuhan in their title, this family-run Noodle joint was a victim of harassment from some less than intelligent folk. This did not stop the Markham Food Community from going there and showing our support. We must stand together in these trying times of Lockdowns and Delivery-only food to support our local businesses. When this Pandemic is over we do hope restaurants like this will still be standing. I'm not even exaggerating, this is undoubtedly my 1 go-to spot for authentic dry hot noodles. There are not many places in the GTA that sell dry hot noodles at all, but this spot not only offers the classic Wuhan dish, but other Wuhan specialties. . As a noodle lover, the sauce base is more important than anything else IMO. I loved that the sesame sauce in the noodles was just the right amount and didn't overpower the dish. The noodles were slightly chewy and firm but definitely cooked to the right texture for a dish that is served 'dry.' This dish was ~$12 before taxes so I'd say it's relatively "more" expensive than your typical casual Chinese noodle place, but the flavors are worth it. The beef and other toppings were pretty whatever- namely it was the sauce that defined it. . I also tried doupi (translates to tofu skin), which is a Wuhan specialty. In these epidemic rampant times I decided to drive from The Junction all the way to Markham to show support. Small space, large table populated by white politicians and Chinese business leaders. Some patrons had the breathing masks to be honest, but all were in good spirits. One issue is the air quality. They have boiling pots and steamers going behind the counter and no air circulation except when the front door is opened. They should work on this. My friend, who's parents are from Wuhan introduced me to this place. It was our group's first time here and we loved it! Wuhan noodles is traditionally dry and spicy noodles served at street vendors in paper bowls. The noodles are fresh and mixed with soy sauce, sesame paste, green onions, dried radish, sour beans, cilantro, chili oil. The waiter will ask if you want to remove any of the ingredients and ask you for your preferred spice level. They have mild, medium and hot. The medium is slightly spicier than Tabasco sauce and their chili is very aromatic. I recommend at least medium if you can handle the heat. If you have a friend you don't mind sharing with I would order 1 dry and 1 soup noodle so you have some variety. They also have a few side dishes too including a chicken soup which goes well with dry noodles. I ordered the dry noodle with chicken and my mom ordered the beef noodle soup. The chicken was tender and marinated in soy sauce (I think). After mixing the dish the noodles go from white to reddish brown and makes you drool a bit. It reminds me of dry dan dan noodles. In fact, I thought there might be peanut sauce in it but it could be the sesame oil. The noodles are soft, doughy and firm but not soggy. Perfect noodle to soak up sauce. I'm on team cilantro and I liked the random bits that surprised my taste buds while eating this dish. The spicy beef noodle soup have the same fantastic noodle in a flavourful soup with some bok choi and really tender beef. I just salivated. My friend says he's tried one other place downtown that serves Wuhan style and he says this is much better and more authentic. The meal before coming here was Northwestern Chinese style noodles at Northwestern Chinese Cuisine and I thought this place would disappoint and I was wrong. I legit might go back tomorrow for lunch. Ok this is gonna be a sort of rant and food review....with all the craze that is going around these days with the Wuhan Corona Virus, it can bring out the worst and best of people. A recent article in The Toronto Star talks about the underlying racism that has emerged when Chinese restaurants and plazas are targeted by people who basically associates the virus with the community itself. In this particular case a local small business where all the products are locally sourced. The only thing they have in common is the name and people on social media try to be funny and associate them with the virus itself. "Oh do you serve Bats??" Seriously??? These are people's lively hood here that you playing around with!! This is the worst of people. Once I read what was going on I was determined to offer my support and check out this place. Wuhan Noodle 1950 serves fantastic and legit dry noodles from Wuhan, China. The signature dish is the Beef Wuhan Dry Noodle and is fantastic! The noodles are super chewy, the sesame flavour strong and the beef delicious! At only $10 it's a great meal to have. The place is small with some seats but clean and well maintained. You can tell the owners are hard working people and deserve to do well. The best of people? I love their signature dish so much - the Dry Noodle with Beef - I've been here seven times since May 2018 and always got the same thing! Am I overrating it? Perhaps I'm just a total sucker for noodles with sesame sauce, chilli, cilantro & green onion, but this combination really does it for me! Subjectively I think they nail the sauce & seasoning even better than the high-end Panpan downtown, and to me this recipe is more refined than other sesame noodle variants like the Hey Noodles' Classic Dry or the DanDan at Four-Four-South. I was actually going to rate them a 5 but there are a few quibbles which could be fixed to really win the full 5: - the portion is perfect for a snack but kinda' small if you're very hungry (or just not ready to stop indulging yet...) It's still a good deal for $9.99 - they give you more meat than the Lamb Noodles at XinJiang ($14) or Shaanxi ($12) which are 95% carbs - but I would suggest reducing this to $8.99 and adding a larger size for $12.99 or $13.99. - my last couple of visits the beef was a bit chewy and less tasty than before. I wonder if business has been slow and they're cutting corners on sourcing the meat or it's been a little too long in the freezer? The place is usually dead at night when I come. WuhanNoodle 1950 is related to the Chu Resto franchises which closed 3 locations this year, I hope this is not the sign of an exit strategy. The only other thing I tried was the Sesame Beef Bun - their version of a Ja'Mo or Xian bun - it was OK, minced filling not as complex as Shaanxi but better than Asian Legend or Chengdou Gouki - the bun is thinner & crispier than Shaanxi's but not brittle like 'Legend's. At $4 it tops off the meal if you're hungry, but I'd prefer the option of a bigger portion of noodles. Service is polite and considerate, as others have mentioned they ask your preferences on the whole checklist of toppings. My only problem was the first couple of times they tried to talk me out of getting the max chili level. I understand they want to prevent complaints from customers they presume unaccustomed to West Chinese spicing, however a warning would suffice. I don't always have the energy to explain that I've eaten home cooked Thai, Lao, Goan & Guyanese food with much hotter spice profiles and I know very well what I'm doing. My rating takes into account limitations imposed by their size & format - they're not a true restaurant or even cafe - it's a small eatery in a professional building hidden from traffic and depending heavily on people who work or live in the office/condo complex, so I've lowered expectations for decor, comfort and menu variety. I think they do a real good job within these limitations and price point. If somebody out there does Dry Noodle with SESAME even better, I'd like to know. If not, that's OK too as I'm quite happy to keep getting it at Wuhan Noodle 1950. read more

Came to give some support. We came on a Saturday afternoon at around 3:30pm, and they still had a steady stream of customers. I think they had gotten alot of hate, but also support due to the virus. People who are blindly hating on this place are very very ignorant. Anyway, we ordered the beef soup noodle, the chicken dry noodles, and the tofu wrap. The noodles come with a free pop each. The food came fairly quickly, less than 10 minutes for everything to arrive. The tofu wrap was so unique and tasty, it was a thin layer of Chinese sticky rice with tofu wrapped around it. The beef noodle soup was okay, the soup tasted highly artificial, and the broth was close to clear, which makes me think it was probably made with an artificial soup base (i.e. instant noodles soup base). The noodle soup tasted good, but I can't get past how much the flavour, and oiliness resembled that of instant noodles. The dry chicken noodle had good flavours. Overall this place is okay, food is not bad, the restaurant itself has a cafeteria feel to it. read more

I've been to this plaza hundreds of times but never once eaten here till today. Cozy spot for a quick bite. Each main noodle entree comes with a pop. My wife ordered a noodle soup and I ordered their dry beef noodle. Both were excellent and quite delicious. For an extra dollar you can add a tea egg. We also ordered one of their Bao sandwiches. We got 1. Dry Beef Noodle: The noodles were pretty yummy - they tasted fresh and were super al-dente. The protein was somewhat limited as the beef slices were thin & tiny. After several bites my mouth felt dehydrated and a little grainy (?) I had to steal some of my sister's beef soup for my noodles. 2. Beef Meatballs: These were actually pretty good. The beef meatballs were big and marinaded with this sweet/sour sauce and served with cucumbers. I'd say this is a must-try for a side dish. 3. Beef Noodle Soup: I only got to taste the soup - the soup itself was flavorful and dark (yum) however, my sister said it was honestly average when you take the noodles & beef into account. 3.5 star - came here a couple times and it was decent. No major complaints but the noodles get a bit oily sometimes and their portion sizes are a tad smaller than what I anticipated. I thought I could handle spicy food, but here, I think the medium is just about right for me. Beef noodle soup also had a lot of flavours but was a little too spicy for my taste. Came here on a Wednesday around 12:40pm and it was packed! One of the busiest restaurant in this plaza. I ordered the beef dry noodles ($9.99), and fresh cucumber juice (3.99 with noodle order, $5.99 without) You can customize the spiciness of your noodles, they will also put chili oil/sauce on top that you mix in with. The noodles are nothing special, the sesame sauce is good though, so be sure to mix well with the noodles before eating! Beef was tender and flavourful! However the juice was alright. It was refreshing at first but after drinking half the glass, i started to feel the bitterness... The aftertaste you get after eating too much raw cucumbers lol. The service I received was alright. I have visited this place twice so far and I know for sure I will continue to be a big fan because they mean spicy when they say spicy. Both times I was here I ordered the chicken with dried flat noodle (~$10) which you can get with or without chili oil, I was very excited to get the spicy option. Our waitress also recommended getting their sparerib lotus soup ($5) and said her favorite way of drinking the soup was to add it to her bowl after finishing her dried noodles, my mom and I decided to get a bowl to share. The dried noodles are absolutely delicious, I like the flat noodle because it really clings onto the sauce. The sesame paste that is in the sauce is also very nice because it adds a nuttiness and richness that helps round out the spice. After I finished my noodles, I mixed some of the soup with the leftover sauce in my bowl and found I really enjoyed it! A taste of Wuhan's hot dry noodle instantly bought me back to my childhood. I remember eating these hot dry noodle growing up in Wuhan. Years have gone by and I completely forgotten about this dish until a friend told me about Wuhan Noodle 1950. For those that aren't as familiar with hot dry noodles, think of lo mein but 10x tastier! The unique blend of sauces with pickled veggies on egg noodles makes this dish one of the best I've had this year. I ordered the chicken hot dry noodles but could probably done with out the chicken. Just plains noodles already hit the spot. The hubby ordered the beef noodle soup which I didn't like. I found the broth to be a bit on the sour side. The only one complaint I have is how thirsty I was after the meal but that won't deter me from coming back. read more

A relatively new addition to the plaza. It's a small restaurant that serves noodles - in soup or dry. The staff are friendly but the food was average at best. Each noodle dish comes with a free pop which was different. Overall it feels like a family owned and operated noodle joint - good for a quick bite but definitely not as good as most other restaurants that specialize in Chinese noodles. read more

Wuhan Noodle 1950 opened up a relatively new location in Markham in the same plaza as Gal Sushi. The restaurant is quite small, clean, and seats up to 18 people in the whole place. Wuhan specializes in hot dry egg noodles, some exotic sounding meats (like chicken gristle, duck feet, duck heart, duck head), and as well as some other noodle soups. Rice noodles are also available. The sizeable portion of noodles is served with a small amount of sauce at the bottom of the bowl. The sauce is a blend of sesame paste, hot chili oil, green onions, cilantro and small amounts of vegetables that you mix your dry noodles into to coat them. I ordered the beef dry noodles and hubby ordered the chicken dry noodles. I found my beef slices to be somewhat dry in consistency. The chicken looked less dry as it consisted of pieces of dark meat. The noodles were flavourful but the sesame paste was a bit thick and it helped to have hot water to wash the noodles down. I would have appreciated something like pickled vegetables to have on the side, but perhaps that is not in keeping with the regional cuisine. The level of spice can be customized. Be warned that if you have a low tolerance to spice like me, you may be best to go with no spice! My mouth was burning as I ate most of my bowl of "mild" dry noodles! One of the staff told me that these types of dry hot noodles are traditionally served with vinegar as a condiment, which actually helped to balance out the heat in the dish. Service staff were friendly and attentive. All in all, for the two noodle dishes, our bill came out to about $23. A little pricey for noodles in my opinion. They have even more expensive dishes, such as noodles with crab ($15), which might be interesting to try. I would likely return to try their beef noodle soup and "spiced flammulina velutipes" (which is a fancy way of saying spiced enoki mushrooms). read more

I went with a friend after another place nearby was busy. There was one other table when we got there about 130 pm but it started to become busier as we sat. They served noodles with a choice of dry or with soup plus a variety of meat. The prices were average but the place is not fancy at all. The staff were friendly and explained some of the menu. We ordered a soup noodle with beef and a dry noodle with chicken. They were better than I expected. The side order of cucumbers were really good and it was a decent size. The noodle orders also included a pop with them. Overall, it feels more like a family run business and it is for quick bites although we stayed to chat for a while without being rushed. I've had both their chicken dry noodle and soft bone dry noodle,it's actually one of my favourite noodle dishes in the Markham area. I hope people will mature and realize that their ingredients are sourced locally and the owners have stated in the article that they have not recently travelled to China, so the fear is unjustified. I hope this wonderful Yelp community can get together and support this small business admist them dealing with such racism, I will be ordering some noodles from them in the coming week! read more

You could ask server to omit if you are not into cilantro. dry noodles comes with pop, for $9.99.
