I've been coming to Deer Garden in Richmond Hill for over 10 years and it used to be one of my go-to spots. I still remember when a bowl of noodles was around $8.25, so it's been disappointing to see it climb to about $18.50 now. My last two visits weren't quite the same as before. The 方魚肉碎 soup base used to have a stronger fish flavour, but recently it tastes milder. The beef brisket also wasn't as good as I remember and was a bit tougher. I usually order the tomato soup base. The bowl arrived with soup, but after just a few minutes of eating the vermicelli had already soaked up quite a bit and the bowl was down to about three quarters left. When I asked about topping it up, I was told extra soup would cost extra. The staff also suggested I order a different type of noodle next time because vermicelli absorbs the soup. I was honestly surprised they wouldn't just add a small scoop of soup to make a long-time customer happy. They also now charge for a takeout hot drink cup, even though cold drinks have always been served in takeout cups already. It just feels like more and more small charges are being added. I still have a lot of nostalgia for this place after coming for so many years, but my recent visits were a bit disappointing compared to how it used to be.

Let me pre-face this review by saying that I have eaten here for quite a while which reveals my age. Recently as per usual I came here with my other half to grab lunch and noticed that they increased their prices for the soup. As of today Dec 2025 the price is $18.50 and the last price was $16.75. This translates into a 10.44% increase! This got me thinking about their price history and taking a look at some fellow yelpers over the years I see the price has steadily increased as follows 2014: $8.25 2017: $9.75 2018: 11.50 2019: 11.99 2022: $15.75 2024: $16.75 2025: $18.50 Deer garden has been a neighborhood staple though offering a consistent meal and service over the years. I totally understand price increases over time, but wow-wee it was a big jump this time. I would still come here moving forward but unfortunately I would have to question my life choices with these price changes over the years. Deer garden you still got me, but please go easy on my wallet moving forward!

Went here after karaoke for dinner with my friends. This is my first time here! Venue: plenty of seats here including a few spots for larger tables. Some booths as well by the wall. Service: easy to find staff, fast service. Food: first of all, the portion is HUGE ! I definitely should have checked the other tables while being seated to see how big it is because ordering additional appetizers was not needed! They provided the right amount of noodles, toppings, vegetables as well. You can opt to have no cabbage, no green onion & parsley (actually cilantro). Price was $16.75, choose a soup base, two toppings, noodles type / rice / or no noodles and a drink. I'm full up and will be falling asleep soon from all this food. Definitely a place to go again!

Came for lunch. Malay Laksa soup, beef - Served hot and the serving size was large. It was spicy. The meat was tender and the soup was good. Chicken teriyaki bowl - Wednesday special. This was just so so. The chicken was tender however, it lacked seasoning. Both dishes came with a drink. We had the lemon tea. Take out the lemon slices otherwise it gets bitter.

This restaurant serves a variety of fish soup with 2 toppings, a carb, and drink of your choice for $15. Additional toppings are $3 each. You can also order additional snack items which are pretty tasty. Friendly service and good comfort food Tip: ask for their hot sauce

Comfort food. Perfect for a quick tasty lunch! I always get the Malay soup, thick noodles with beef brisket and fish tofu! Sooo good! Restaurant is usually quite busy and they're branching out their menu. But I still get the same noodles each time. Treat yourself to a glass of cold Ovaltine to seal the deal!

Absolutely zero complaints about the food. It was delicious and very customizable. There are so many options to choose from and rarely does the meal also come with the drink. The portions are also big and very filling. The only downside was the service. It took forever for the waitress to come get our order and it was hard to flag them down if you didn't sit near the cashier. Also we only had USD in our hands (because we were going to pay in credit card) and they had us pay 1:1 even though USD is worth more, so we overpaid. However we just considered it as giving tip, but the way they talked and the overall experience wasn't good. There was no sign that they did not accept credit card on the doors/ windows outside. All they had was a tiny piece of paper taped to the window of the cashier saying cash or debit only.

2022 update - no frills comfort food. I swear by the noodle combo and always pick the parsley & century egg fish soup. If you are dining in, you get a free drink (lemon or milk tea) which is nice. Prices are now $15.75 for the combo which is a sign of the times but high for what you get. Note that if you are dining in store, it is debit or cash only. However, their takeout system still seems to accept credit.

I go by every weekend. I used to order broccoli, which tasted excellent, and fry egg pork to start. The food was overall good, and I got my order very quickly. In addition, I ordered popcorn chicken, and fried rice. For drinks, I preferred to order lemon tea. Very clean dining area and washrooms. Everything was great. The atmosphere exceptional, the experience, and the service lovely. I will definitely visit it again next weekend!!!

Came here for an early dinner on a Sunday. It wasn't busy at all and the atmosphere was nice. It's the perfect place to have a hearty and warm meal on a cold night! You really get the best bang for your buck here as they have large portion sizes. Your order is fully customizable, from the broth to the toppings. I got the original fish broth with wide rice noodles, fish tofu, and fish fillet for the toppings. I didn't think there would be much flavour to my broth due to the pale colour. However I wasn't pleasantly surprised! It had a nice depth of flavour without an overpowering fish taste. The fish tofu was also very soft and paired nicely with the slices of fresh fish. They gave me a ton of noodles which I appreciated, but I ended up running out of broth. This left me with a bunch of soggy noodles at the bottom. For the side I had the honey sausage. It had that perfect balance between sweet and salty. Overall, it's a great place to get a good bowl of soup. Definitely would love to come back and try their other broths!

It's been a while but I'm back for my favourite comfort food! I would give this place somewhere between a 3-4 star, food is great, service is fast, seatings are comfortable but price is getting more and more expensive. Two Toppings Noodle (+selected drink) $15.75 Both the Parsley & Century Egg Fish Soup and Gingko & Pepper Fish Soup are always good soup bases to get, especially the ginkgo & pepper which is perfect to keep you warm on a rainy and cold day.

Location/Service This place is in the corner unit of Times Square, facing the Highway 7 side. There's plenty of parking available around the plaza. Inside is big with small/medium size tables available. There's also bar seating for quick come-and-goers. Decor is pretty basic with the modern furniture. Staff didn't have much smile/friendliness, but nice and orders came relatively quick. Food I like how you have a choice to order their standard menu items or order their soup noodle with your own customization. I chose their signature Deer Garden broth with thick noodles, 2 items (beef and fish cake) and a hot milk tea. You can obviously add more items if you wish for extra cost - but the way it is set up seems decent for me in terms of portion and quantity. It was a big bowl - and I was super full from eating it. The broth was nice, fresh - but not bland enough that it's nothing. Everything else was pretty standard - noodles were chewy, beef was tender. If you do like a little bit of spice, their XO sauce is a killer - just a little bit and it changes the broth drastically. Deer Garden has been sort of my go-to place when I'm sick, or feel like I need to warm up with a nice bowl of comfort food. Prices have gone up over the years - this bowl after tax/tip is around $15 - but worth it.

We both decided to get the soup, sandwich and a bottle of water ( $11 ) and boy did we make a good choice. Normally you would except a small soup bowl with a sandwich however this soup was in a HUGE (to me anyways lol) bowl with a full sized sandwich. My soup of choice was the chicken noodle with a ham & cheese croissant. I feel like chicken noodle is always a good staple to determine if it is worth coming back. I must say, it definitely was worth it. The chicken noodle soup was soo filling. Had some hearty vegetables and they definitely did not skip out on the chicken. So not only were we stressing about our first born, but personally I was also very stressed for my wife as I wanted to make sure she had a good recovery (as per traditional Cantonese ways). I can make some soups myself, but I just couldnt imagine being able to find the time. When we found Let's Soup we were elated as this was exactly what we were looking for in the GTA - A traditional Asian (Chinese) herbal soup place! Lets Soup is located at the corner of Yonge and 16th avenue on the South East corner at the base of the condo building. This is a very small store that is strictly for take out. When we first came to order it took about 15 minutes to prepare. We ended up ordering via messages on their Instagram account and was never disappointed with their service. Honestly I literally can not think of any other place that exists in the GTA (at least when we were looking) that offered this kind of service - Outside of hiring a "lai ma" to come and cook and cook for us. This was the next best thing and it was an absolute god send. I dont deny though, everyones taste is different, raised differently and of course different experiences with food and cooking. Unfortunately, I dont think there is any restaurant out there that can truely replace a parents cooking thats made with love - But Lets Soup is an extremely close second. My wife and I purchased some soup to try them out, and was happy enough that we decided to get the full "post partum recovery" set (pre paid for a set number of soups at a slight discount) So we had the chance to try many of their soups. Serving size was more then enough for 2 adults or one very hungy wife that just gave birth :) This was absolutely perfect for us, and we still went back even after we had the package to pick up more soups. I would absolutely not hesitate to recommend this place, as honestly what other places can compare? This is almost a one of a kind service in the GTA as far as I am aware On top of all this, I had nothing but excellent service every time I went. They were always friendly and happy, offered lots of advice for having a first child and were just over all awesome. I hope they can continue to improve and grow. Keep up the good work!

They got the Chinese mom approval from my mom if that helps. You also get fortune cookies! Side note: order ahead because you don't want to or even have an opportunity to park in this plaza while you wait and might have to go all the way around the first time since there's limited space (idk who planned this area but we have beef now).

I have also got a free bowl of soup and a free dessert that expired five days after the deal was in my offers in the Z! Eats app. Zoup! (also known as Z! Eats) currently has three locations in Ontario. I tend to go to the one on Dixie in Mississauga, as it's closest to my workplace. I decided to expand my horizons last Saturday by visiting this one in Newmarket while I was in the area running a few errands. This eatery is by highway 404, so it's convenient to get here. It's in the same plaza as Booster Juice. This eatery is in a row of four businesses, between Starbucks and Osmow's. I pulled into the parking lot on a Soggy Saturday. I pulled out my Z! Eats app and placed my order. I had a $2-off offer to use. I got the following items: - Wild mushroom barley soup - Pulled pork mac and cheese I paid through the app. I had to add a credit card. All was great. I got an estimated time of five minutes for my order to be ready. I got distracted seeing a bakery in the same plaza. I visited it while waiting for my order to be ready. I probably spent fifteen minutes at this bakery. Oops! I drove back to Z! Eats (it's a vast plaza) and got the same parking spot. I walked into the eatery. I was the only person here. I got a friendly man who happened to be the owner. I complimented his hours. This eatery is open till 7 pm on Saturdays. The Dixie location is open till 5 pm, but I have been there well before closing and it was already closed. It was a lovely chat. I wasn't expecting him to give me a coupon for a BOGO entree option the next time that I am here or at the Cambridge location. So nice! He asked me whether I wanted butter with my baguette. I said yes. He had my order ready and handed it over to me. He wished me a safe drive, as there was a freezing rain warning. I wished him the same thing when he hit the road in an hour. I took the backroads and then feasted at home. I am absolutely longing to have the wild mushroom barley soup again. It had so many sliced mushrooms, carrots, onions, barley, and more. It was hearty and delicious. I got a bowl. I find the cup to be too small. I haven't tried whatever the larger size is. I may need to get it next time. This soup was fabulous. It's also vegan. The pulled pork mac and cheese was excellent. I was pleasantly surprised to get shells. They were perfect to scoop up more of the cheesy sauce. The shells were cooked perfectly. I loved it. The pulled pork was generous. I liked that the barbeque sauce was drizzled over the pulled pork only. Sometimes, the sauce is overly sweet that it overpowers everything. The sauce was smoky and tangy. It was perfect without dominating the mac and cheese. I tend to have the baguette the next day for breakfast. I like making eggs, slicing the baguette in half, toasting it in a pan, and then putting scrambled eggs on top of each slice. The baguette is excellent and I always look forward to getting it with my soup. You can also get crackers instead of the baguette. If you don't like either, you can also say no thanks. It was my first time getting mac and cheese at Z! Eats. So good! I'll be back for more. This location had tables and chairs if you'd like to dine in. It was clean and cheerful. I'm glad that I dropped by this eatery. I'll be back for more. It's the closest location to my home. (115)
