Stopped in to Moe's last night for dinner on the penultimate leg of our cross country journey. Moe's was a Yelp find and we had high hopes. I knew we had made the right choice when I pulled up in front of the smoker. The restaurant wasn't crowded and we were allowed to seat ourselves. Our server was quick to greet us and get our iced tea to start. Brief menu but with a good barbecue joint you don't need a lot of choices. I ordered the pulled pork with house chips and slaw. Daughter went with the ribs, slaw and mac and cheese. Plates arrived quick with a delicious piece of cornbread that looked like it was toasted on the flattop. The pulled pork was excellent. I was relieved that the sauce wasn't overly sweet which is an issue in so many barbecue joints. The sauce had a hint of vinegar which was perfect to cut through any sweetness. House chips were crispy but maybe a little under seasoned. Slaw was of the vinegar marinated variety which is the way slaw should be! Daughter raved about the ribs which had that perfect smoke bark on the exterior but were fall apart tender and delicious. Didn't try the mac and cheese but daughter gives it a thumbs up. Was tempted to try the banana pudding but I didn't have time for the nap that I would need if I did! Service was quick and cheerful throughout the meal. Didn't get our servers name because of the mask. Loved Moe's and I'm hoping to find a reason to get back to Mobile. read more

I've tried Moe's twice and the only reason was to give it a second chance. BBQ potato is good especially with the baked beans on it. First time to try Moe's, and I see a return trip in the near future. My wife and I both ordered a two meat combo, ribs and pulled pork for her with sides of salad and home made chips and then pulled chicken and sausage for me with coleslaw and baked beans for sides. Tonight we had the smoked chicken sandwich with Lima beans and red beans and rice. The sandwich came with a pile of coleslaw and pickles, and the chicken was cubed. Not a fan of coleslaw in general, but the chicken was very good and juicy. The Lima beans were a little salty, and a tad dry. The red beans and rice are kind of strange. They are tomato based and remind me more of jambalaya or soup than red beans and rice. That being said, the sausage and chicken pieces in the red beans were good. Their sauce is very good, and their white BBQ sauce is not my favorite but I don't hate it either. The best thing about them is their brisket and their cornbread. I'm not usually a cornbread fan because cornbread is usually dry and causes people to choke. However, this cornbread is the most moist cornbread I've ever had. So for the longest time I considered Moe's BBQ to be one of the best in Mobile but the last few times have been super disappointing. They recently increased prices so for a chicken sandwich meal with two sides was $13 and a drink is $2 so $15 which I find kind of pricy. I can get a whole half chicken at Dreamlands with two sides for $13. I've always liked that they have special daily sides but they are very hit or miss...they seem to just throw whatever leftover items in their daily sides, like their mashed potato casserole has carrots, ground beef, etc. I remember disliking their grits casserole too and the broccoli casserole is also not very good. They do have great sweet potato casserole which will sometimes convince us to visit because it is delicious. My husband & I ate in a few weeks ago and it was $50 for just the two of us, but we did get the pork rinds too (which we didn't eat at all as they were very plain and bland, do not recommend). I'm not really in a hurry to go back. I do think the one downtown is better quality food. read more

Do not eat there an hour before closing. The sandwiches are cold and taste like old baseball glove from sitting in the basket. Macaroni will be congealed and cold as well. Wow. I'm from Memphis so I know a few things about BBQ. This place is the real deal. The pulled pork melts in your mouth. I also had the hot wings which were excellent. They maybe could have used a little more sauce but they had a smoky flavor that I have never had before. So the sides are like real southern food. Today it was lima beans, green beans, mashed potatoes which were all the best. They also had mac n cheese which was not good. The service was great. The one downtown is way better. This one seems to to be run by entitled kid students from the university. First of all they want a tip when you order at the counter like Mc'Donalds then the ice where you serve YOURSELF and get YOURSELF refills is not working. So then you have to convince one of them to come out of the back to scoop you some from back there. Food drop off with no utensils and they disappear while you look for bbq sauce and ketchup. Then when your done you get to bus your own table. Food was ok. Service was nonexistent while expecting you to tip on your credit card slip. Already had the 15% -20%-25% amounts figured for you. This has become our go-to BBQ joint. The pulled pork sandwiches are amazing. Very tender. They only have one sauce choice which might be considered "spicy" to some but we like it. They have a good assortment of sides. Some are daily staples and some rotate. The Mac & cheese is inconsistent but I order it everytime anyway.
