Sonny's BBQ is a big restaurant decorated in simple decor. It has a comfortable vibe. Our server Emily was very friendly and helped with recommendations. The salad is huge! Tons of fresh veggies and I got mine with chicken. The salad had a lot of chicken and crispy onion straws! Almost too much. No way I could eat the whole salad. The chicken was smoked just right and tender. The ranch dressing is light but so good. The ribs, brisket, BBQ beans, garlic bread, and fries were all delicious! I like all four BBQ sauces too! Sonny's BBQ was aggressively average. Like they held a staff meeting and said, "Nobody embarrass us, but absolutely nobody show off either." Smoked turkey? Average. Brisket? Average. St. Louis ribs? Average. Tried all four sauces thinking surely one of them was gonna stand up and separate itself from the pack. Nope. Four different bottles of "that's fine." Then the mac & cheese showed up and finally broke the streak -- by being way BELOW average. Cold and gross. That mac & cheese tasted like it had already given up on itself before it reached the table. If you're gonna serve me mediocre BBQ, at least have the decency to give me hot cheese. I order the same salad from here once or twice a week in Uber Eats. This is for my girlfriend working night shift across the street, working late. So I order her the bbq salad and sweat tea, every time. I end up spending about $27 on a salad and drink. The salad is always poorly made. Stale lettuce, or half the ingredients missing. Needless to say, Sonny's BBQ has been removed from our weekly menu.You'd think you'd learn from your mistake after my girlfriend has needed to drive across the street to Sonny's handful of times to have the missing ingredients added. I had lunch with my family and another family on Saturday 8/19/23 at the Sonny's BBQ at the 770 Schlillinger Road South location in Mobile, AL and had a bad experience with our waitress Madison. We ordered the following items: 1. Reg Pork Sandwich & Fries $7.49 + 2.99 = 10.48 Was charged $13.99 =+3.51 overcharge 2. Reg Pork Sandwich meat only $7.49 = was charged $ 9.99 = + $2.50 overcharge 3. Grilled cheese fries drink = $8.99+4.00=$12.99 Correct 4. Large Pork Sandwich & Fries $9.99+ 4.00 = $13.99 Correct Original Charge 50.96+ 5.09==$56.05 I Informed our waitress that our prices seemed incorrect so I asked for a menu which she brought back to my table. I Asked our waitress Madison to adjust price to reflect right prices. She left then came back and said "My manager is too busy to come over and I am not even supposed to be here, I should have been gone two hrs ago." I asked her to check with her manager again and her response was they are too busy to be bothered with and she left and changed our ticket to a lower amount but it was still incorrect. She then said that we could pay that amount and she would pay the difference out of her own pocket. I said I don't want it to come out of your pocket I just want it to be correct and she said that is all she could do now. She refused to get with her manager and just took my wife's over priced Reg Sandwich which she priced at $9.99 which should of been $7.49 off the bill. So she charged $13.99, $13.99 & $12.99 which should have been $13.99, $12.99, $10.48 . I have no problem paying for all items at their correct price but I feel the waitress was either padding the bill for a higher tip and refused to go to manager for fear of being found out for either trying to cheat her customer or just being incompetent. If she did that with us it makes me wonder if she does that with other customers. I reluctantly even tipped her $5.00 which I shouldn't have due to her refusing to correct the bill and for her refusal to involve the manager. This is extremely poor customer service by this server which I hope is addressed by her manager and or owner of the restaurant. read more

Ordered the Smoked chicken with baked beans and coleslaw. Chicken was good, had a nice smoky taste to it. The BBQ sauce comes in plastic packets, was not a big fan of the smoky or original sauces. The sides were gross. The baked beans tasted like they were straight out of a can and the cole slaw had no taste at all. The saving grace was the banana pudding. It was great but the portion that I got was 50% whipped cream so I didn't get enough of what i paid for. Oh my Goodness, gosh... I will begin with ambience. When walking indoors, you get a gargantuan sniff of burning wood and BBQ. Ok, so now you're really hungry, but what to order? Everything looks great. I had the pulled pork and their sides are so yummy lots of choices! I used their own bbq sauce "smokin" and it's tasty but not hot. Our server Sherron was absolutely a charming soul. She was super friendly, came to us enough but not enough to 'pester" us, very accommodating. The restaurant was very clean and had a nice vibe. I want to start by saying that our waitress was amazing. The loaded tater tots were flash fried and were cold and our meal took 45 minutes to come out. The brisket was very good and everyone else seemed happy with their food. We were all very hungry at that point. read more

I haven't had barbecue for decades - literally. So we decided to give it a shot tonight and I am so delighted I did. We were BLESSED and LUCKY to have Andy as our server. He was so gentle and kind and gracious. He made us feel appreciated and valued as customers - which I find uncommon these days.. so when the red carpet gets rolled out, I notice. Thank you Andy! We enjoyed the crunchy tater tots, hot crisp okra.. and all the four sauces at the table. The coleslaw was a tad too sweet for me - but I'll be sure to switch it out for a different side next time. My dining companion enjoyed his slaw - he likes a touch of sugar in his cornbread and slaw, so he was very content. And the dessert was nice and cold and creamy - banana pudding. I'm assuming I got whole pork instead of it being shredding cause This was just one massive lump of pork under 2 buns. And 98% of it was fat. Fries soggy and no salt. My son got us dinner and he went through the drive-thru and the attendant was very rude. He asked for sour cream for the baked potatoes and she told him they don't give sour cream and it was $1.75 per pack. He said Hell no to that. He got home and my order was wrong. I got a damn sweet potato instead of a baked potato and zero BBQ sauce for the cold pulled pork sandwiches. My family doesn't eat sweet potatoes and won't have even thought to order it. We were heading to the airport and looking for a place to go for lunch. Happened to pass by this place and thought we'd try some Alabama BBQ before we returned to California. We're glad we did. The interior is a bit older and we were a little hesitant when we walked in, because there was no one at the hostess stand to seat us, so we stood around awkwardly for a little while before someone who came out of the kitchen seated us. We noticed about 10 booths that were occupied, all by gray-haired seniors. Must be a popular place to hang out for retired locals. Seating was spacious, the booths were very comfy. The water cups are HUGE! The prices were fabulous. Maybe we're just used to the pricey BBQ places in California but we couldn't believe how much food we got for $14.99. And so delicious too! We were first served a huge portion of coleslaw, which was pretty good. Before we even finished that, we were presented with our entrees. I ordered a sampler plate that consisted of pulled pork (or sliced pork is an option), chicken on the bone, brisket, and ribs. AND two more --steamed broccoli and garlic bread. My husband ordered a rib plate that consisted of baby back ribs and dry rub ribs (they accidentally gave him sweet and savory ribs). Everything was absolutely fantastic. I ordered online for pickup and put a specific time to pick up my order for Father's Day. I went at the time the web site advised my food would be ready. I went to drive up window. She advised me to pull into the curbside parking area. I wanted in the hot sun in my car for 30 minutes for food. No one came out with my order. I went inside to inquire on my order and watched the server star grabbing items and threw them in a bag and handed to me. Once I got home the order was wrong. Sonny's is a fun place for barbeque on Schillinger Road. I love their smoked chicken, chicken salad, pulled pork and ribs. I also enjoy the salad bar and their sweet potatoes and baked beans. The redneck eggrolls are great if you are in the mood for an appetizer. I also love their fresh brewed iced tea. read more

Love me some Sonny's on a Saturday when kids eat free. I always get the wings and ribs for 11.99 with 2 sides and garlic bread. You get about 7-8 wings and about 3/4 ribs. Totally a great deal and the wings are smoky and fire grilled. The wife loves the turkey breast sandwhich. She always asks for the lunch portion and it comes with 2 sides for 7.50.. She gets it every time. We love Sat when the kids get full meals as big as the adults with a drink included for free! I also like the fact that they have 4 diff sauces to fit your style. We order the ribs and wings plate and the kids pulled pork and baked potato. My son is in the bathroom right now vomiting and I'm nauseated. I do believe this was the worse we've gotten from Sonny's BBQ. We were very disappointed in our meals tonight. It will be a long while before we go back. Hopefully it will be better the next time. We have been several times before and most of the time the food was alright, I wouldn't say it was delicious but it was alright compared to some other BBQ restaurants.
