The staff was very helpful from the first moment of walking in the door! The food was great a little pricey but definitely worth it. I was able to eat my plate for lunch and dinner. I was very disappointed tonight. :-( I've been here before so I was excited to eat their food again. When I saw the buffet food that was already prepared (as opposed to ordering from the menu), I should have listened to my gut, walked out and returned another day. Meatballs, dry-looking beef ribs, pork ribs and "fried" chicken...really? They had no Cuban sandwiches and no steak. :-( Instead, I asked for tostones w/snapper from the menu. "No, we don't have that." "Okay, I'll try the tostones w/tilapia in coconut sauce." It looked good when it was brought over to the table. For the first few bites it tasted good, until I stuck my fork into the part of the tilapia that wasn't cooked! I immediately returned their undercooked, pre-frozen tilapia and was asked if I would like something else. I asked for something entirely different--"how about mofongo w/shrimp in garlic sauce instead?" "No, you'll have to order another tostones dish because the price will be different." Really? "Okay, if you insist, I'll have the tostones w/shrimp in garlic sauce, and make it to go because I'm out of here!" Granted, the replacement food looked good, but sorry, I doubt I'll be back again. When I crave REAL Puerto Rican or Dominican food, I'll remind myself of what happened tonight and wait until I go back home to NY for a visit to get the real deal!! read more

Mix feelings about this place. Was ecstatic to find a restaurant offering Latino Caribbean an food. We ordered some empanadas the filling was good but defiantly missing the cheese and garlic . We order plantains and they were absolutely disgusting. Sour and soggy, with a weird texture. I have made plantains and eaten them in the islands and in south Florida , I don't know how they ruin plantains but the did. Next we order orange sauces chicken platter, that was different but amazing! Actually best I have had with that one. Also ordered a Cuban Sandwich and it was as authentic as it gets ! Don't understand why they don't offer yellow rice or black beans and white rice. The pork chunks were a miss as well tiny and dried out piece of meat. Normally, we order this in south Florida a no received large juice chunks of pork with sauté onion and garlic and cilantro. The was pricey as it usually is, but those was very dry. The steak I ordered with it was too chewy. Normally mondo go is served with nice chunks of pork and pork rinds mixed in, a red tomato base sauce to moisten it. When ordering steak with it, the meat is usually tender, sauté with onions and comes with a rich green garlic sauce to add flavor to the mix. So not the worst food experience , but not the best either. Very middle Tennessee Blah! Ok, but nothing to write home about. I would go again for the chicken and empanadas and a Cuban ; maybe try something I missed. read more

Housed in an adorable turquoise house in Berry Hill, this restaurant is an awesome new addition to the neighborhood's food scene! The service is wonderful and the food is TASTY -- our favorites were the coconut shrimp mofongo and the sweet bean pudding. had dinner here this week, and it was so good! =D the location is clean, bright, colorful, and inviting. it was easy to park. the staff were all very friendly and helpful. hubby got rice and beans, some kind of braised ribs, and a salad for ~$10, all of which he really liked. i got the mofongo (which i have never had before) w/ okra and an avocado/tomato salad for $12. the food was delicious and the portions were large. we had enough leftover for a whole nother meal. my 14mo old baby even ate some of the beans and avocado, which is a testament to how good the food was (b/c in general, she only likes clementines and string cheese). my only complaint is that i wish they had more vegetarian options (since okra is not my favorite). but i think they do have different vegetarian things on different days. i see a picture of some kind of fried cheese thing that looks more up my alley. will definitely come back to try it. =) read more

We visited Sunday morning 24 June with nine family and friends. We needed a tutorial on the menu but after that it was on. I ordered one of the platters which included rice, meat and a salad. I chose the peas and rice. Goat and a avocado salad. I got greedy and got two beef empanadas also. I probably shouldn't have don't that because we had a seven hour drive afterwards however I'm glad I did, the food is terrific, the goat was tender and full of favor when cooked right. This was cooked superbly, my rice and peas were great and the empanadas were large and filling. We sampled the chicken,beef , soup and pinto beans. I have been here a couple of times, ordered the cafeteria style plate the first time with yuca frita and tostones and next time I had the chicharrón de pollo with mofongo. I was disappointed by the mofongo, it was bland and the yucca was not fried well, it could've stayed in the fryer a little longer. The portion of the sauces they offer you are minute. Would like to see the sauces bar style by the drink area, at least for the mayoketchup. The lady ahead of me had a large family and obviously didn't know much about the food and the lady taking the order was not much help to guide her with how to order better and how long it would take to get ready, you could tell they were shocked with their total because prices are not listed on the menu. I would like to see the prices listed on the menu just like every other restaurant does, and add a little more seasoning to the mofongo. read more
