I've been to Mofongo's previous location before, but this new spot is such an upgrade. It's much bigger, has way more seating, and overall feels a lot more comfortable. I brought my sister because she loves mofongo, and it seemed like the perfect place for us to check out together. We came fairly early, around 6 PM, so it wasn't crowded at all. The only downside was that the restaurant had a fragrance that was incredibly strong and honestly a bit overpowering. It kind of took away from the experience for me. They don't have outdoor seating, but I genuinely would have preferred sitting outside in the Miami heat over being inside with that scent. Food wise, it definitely delivered. I ordered the churrasco mofongo and it was delicious. The steak was flavorful and paired perfectly with the mofongo. We also got the fried chicken for my nephew, and it was so good. Crispy, juicy, and a huge hit with him. Service was good throughout our visit, and our food came out quickly. Overall, I'm glad to see them thriving in a larger space. The food was great, the service was solid, and if they toned down the fragrance, the experience would have been even better. read more

Oh my God, get the soup. It is delicious. So good that I got some to go. I'm not sure what it's referred to as but it is filled with sweet potato, chicken and the broth is so rich, umami, thick and hearty. The cheese sticks I think they cirullos go marvelously with their hot sauce, which is definitely not too spicy and the shrimp with garlic cream. Mofongo is delicious. Everybody is super friendly and the menu is delicious. This is our second time and I see a third in my near future. read more

I love Mofongo (the Puerto Rican dish). I get it any chance I can find it because it's so delicious. Basically, for the uninitiated, Mofongo is mashed plantains (sweet, green/unripe, or mixed) with some meat. It's a Puerto Rican "casserole". This restaurant does a pretty good job. I liked it. But, alas, not quite as good as establishments in PR. Main downside is the price is a little high and service was average. My wife also had a mojito drink that she didn't enjoy at it. Came here for dinner with the family and was pleasantly surprised with all the variations. I loved that they have the option to have mofongo on the side or on top of it. We chose to put the mofongo on the side with some churrasco (skirt steak), delicious! The kids menu had three options (chicken, steak, or tenders), so happy it wasn't the typical mac & cheese and nuggets. Overall good food. The resturant itself is a little tight (lots of tables/chairs) so we were a bit squished next to other people and the service was a little slow, but still would come again. read more

This place recently re-opened in a new location not very far from its original spot. It is quite large now and they have upgraded their decor significantly. Upon entering you're greeted by tall ceilings and a large open dining space. They also have a long bar with seating. Most weekends, it looks fairly busy. I came in on a Thursday with a friend for dinner. The hostess was sweet and asked if we had reservations, which we did not, but I will say for an early Thursday evening, we were fine. There were a couple of dinners seated, but overall there were plenty of tables open. Our waiter informed us we were still in time to enjoy happy hour, so I asked for the white sangria and my friend had a beer. My sangria was painfully sweet. Truly, not something I would recommend. My friend ordered the churrasco main dish, which I believe came with two sides. I tried the steak and I really liked it. Very juicy and cooked to order medium perfectly, with a nice pink center. I ordered the shrimp off "la parrilla," I asked if it came with sauce and he said he could bring me garlic sauce on the side, but the shrimp came in like a butter garlic sauce. So, I'm not sure if that is how the dish truly comes or if it was a modification because of my question. Regardless, I enjoyed the dish anyway, which I ordered with tostones, and were well made. All in all, I would come back here. This place makes a nice backdrop for a date night or for a large group celebrating an event. read more

Arrived to Mofongo's today after a recommendation and it didn't disappoint. Our server was excellent, ambiance was very similar as being in Puerto Rico. Loved their outfits, went extremely well with the theme and food was outstanding. While visiting Miami or when near Calle 8, it should be an official stop. This used to be a great spot for a solid, reasonably priced plate of rice and beans with that classic 8th Street (Calle Ocho) Miami charm. Back when it was a smaller, humbler place, it felt authentic. But ever since they moved into the larger location, everything that made it special has disappeared -- and now it feels like customers are footing the bill for their expansion. The food is overpriced, the quality has slipped, and the portions leave you wondering what exactly you're paying for. I've been coming here for years, but my visits have dropped off since the move, and this last experience sealed the deal. Lunch for two -- two churrasco mofongos at $33 each and a single Coke -- was absurd. On top of that, they automatically tack on an 18% service charge, which feels tacky and unnecessary, especially for service that should earn its tip. And the final insult: an extra 2.5% fee just for using a credit card. Miami is full of incredible places to eat, and this one no longer deserves to be on anyone's list. Tourists are getting taken advantage of, and locals are being disrespected. The owners should be embarrassed by what this place has become. I won't be returning. read more

Food was delicious. Good prices on the happy hour menu served through out the restaurant not just at the bar. Service was attentive with several employees checking in on us not just our server. The ambiance is so much better than what is used to be at the old location. It's bright and airy and has a big screen tv with pictures of the beaches in PR. This was the most unprofessional and unpleasant interaction I've EVER had. I'm a visitor here in Miami and was really excited to sit down and eat.. I haven't eaten yet and I'm writing this review.. I had a very UPSETTING and baffling interaction with an older gentleman host that I was greeted by at the entrance. My 2 friends arrived before me an two other girls. I asked the gentleman if there was anything open for a group of 5- he said "I have absolutely nothing, everything is reserved." I so wish that I could've given this place five stars. My husband and I stayed in Miami a couple of days after the end of our cruise. First of all, let me just say that the location is amazing. The layout of the restaurant is beautiful and there was live music playing, and that gave it the beautiful Puerto Rican/Cuban vibe. People were dancing and really having a good time. I would give the ambience five stars. Food: my husband ordered the Chuleta Kan Kan which was absolutely glorious, delicious, out of this world. There is a sweet sauce on the top that made it even more delicious. I would give his plate five stars. I ordered the New York steak. I requested it to be medium well and it was delivered to me well done and dried. It was the most expensive steak on the menu and so I was very disappointed and did not enjoy it at all. Service: I was very disappointed in the service. Let me start by saying when we got there the host took us to a table and did not give us menus. We waited for a while for menus and ended up having to request one. The waiter was very slow. He took a long time to take our order. Once our order arrived, he did not check in on our assessment of the food. I ate half of my steak because I was so hungry. When I informed him that the steak was dried and well done, which was not the way that I requested it, he said I'll make a note of it and didn't offer any substitution or replacement. I feel like the service here is lackluster - pretty much you're seated, you wait, your order is taken. They take forever to check in on you and lastly, took them forever to bring us our check at the end of our meal. It was disappointing, and this is the reason I give them three stars because of the condition of my meal and moreover, the service was terrible. We may end up coming back here when we're in the Miami area again for my husband's dish, but I'm not sure yet. I feel like it was very disappointing overall. read more

I wish I could have given it a better review. For starters, it was lunch time and upon entering the restaurant the host asked how many and we said... table for 2 and he proceeded to ask if we had a reservation. The place was half empty... he actually came off rude and not very hospitable for a host. Anyways, we were seated. The server was super nice and sweet. The apps were great but the main course (mofongo) was super salty.... We couldn't even finish it. The prices were more than what we should have paid... but I guess it's Miami right... would have been better if the sodium content wasn't through the roof. I couldn't even ask for another coke because the tiniest bottle was 4 dollars. I am surprised the water was free. Even the sauce for the mofongo was salty and over oiled. They charge automatic gratuity for the kitchen... 18 percent for the kitchen which I didn't think was needed with the prices they charge and the fact that it was too salty to eat. The waitress also expects additional tip if you feel her service was great... which it was't bad but it wasn't over the top. I've had better Puerto Rican food at hole in the walls for a better price. Mofongo keeps knocking it out of the park! A group of us (14) went to Mofongo's last night. Half had never even heard of PRn food while the other half were regulars of the old site. Nevertheless ALL agreed (despite a wide array of dishes) on an EXCELLENT rating for their dishes. Everything the kitchen put out was simply delicious. Service was OUTSTANDING. We had originally requested a table for 8 and the number grew to 14. The waitress effortlessly changed our table and managed all the orders without getting overwhelmed or confused. Most importantly, everyone received the plate they had ordered... and in a timely manner (kudos to the kitchen staff!). This new locale has a full bar and a very nice selection of wines which the old location did not offer. It's also significantly larger than the old one and very aesthetically pleasing. I went to Mofongo for the first time a few days ago for dinner before attending a play at the Tower Theater down the block. I wanted to take some friends who are not familiar with Puerto Rican cuisine. As a Puerto Rican, I thought this would be a great place to go. I started them off with alcapurrias and a pastel so they could try something very typical of PR. The alcapurrias were ok but the meat filling was well seasoned. I will say I wish the alcapurria was less dry. It was a bit too dry and crispy than I like so it seems they were fried too long or the oil was too hot. The pastel was very small. And they must pour some of the cooked masa over it. At least that's what it looks like. Wish they wouldn't do that. But it does have flavor. Could use a tiny bit more salt or instead of offering ketchup and mayo ketchup (I'm probably one of the few Puerto Ricans that hates mayo ketchup and ketchup is a huge NO for pasteles ) also have some PR pique. I ordered the canoa with bacalao which was very good but it's a very small portion for the price. My friends had the bistec encebollado which they say was good but could have been a bit more seasoned and the pink beans could also have been more seasoned. The service was great. The hostesses and waitstaff were friendly and accommodating. The restaurant itself is lovely and aesthetically pleasing. Overall the experience is good. But the food could use some improvement in order for it to be stellar. I know things are more expensive nowadays but also improving the portion size would help. read more

We visited this restaurant on April 2, 2025. Nicely decorated place, despite the awful overhead fluorescent lighting...but that is about it. Our drinks (3 glasses of wine and 1 beer) took FOREVER to arrive. Only our server was knowledgeable on a few menu items, as the rest of the staff had no idea about some of the ingredients on the dishes.. The menu offerings are slim and not as authentic as one would expect. When the food finally arrived, it was cold and the servings were not abundant. When the bill came, our server NEVER divulged that there was a built in 18% service charge. (Important to note that we were a party of 5.) When I asked what the charge was for, she said "I really don't know, but it's split between the kitchen staff and all of us here.". She still pushed the electronic card reader in my face with the suggested additional tip which started at 20%. So if you don;t ask before you sign, and are accustomed to leaving 20%, you will end up leaving a 38% tip. Not going back read more
