My doberman, Draco, can be very anxious, but their team goes above and beyond to make him feel safe and comfortable. They've been incredibly accommodating by letting us use the back door whenever he is extremely anxious, which has made such a big difference in keeping his stress levels low. The staff is patient, kind, and very knowledgeable. Draco settles down much faster here than anywhere else I have gone before, which says everything about how well they handle nervous dogs. Every visit is smooth, organized, and never feels rushed. They are very upfront and honest they are about pricing, just clear communication and genuine care. I took a sick barn cat in that had not been eating and drinking. He was no where near deaths door. They where kind enough to squeeze him in between patients. I dropped him off about 10am and they ran blood work that indicated he was having problems with his liver and my have a infection. They also suggested stays and ultrasound. I opted to start with antibiotics and fluids first to see if he improved. They gave him a round of fluids at the hospital while he was there and sent home antibiotics and fluids that I could continue. They brought him out in his carrier we headed home and when I pulled him out of the carrier he was vomiting and disoriented. I thought he would improve, clinic was closed. Long story short he passed by 8pm that night. I have worked in clinics most of my life and I believe he was given fluids too much too fast. When I called the next morning I would call them less than sympathetic, hall they did was give fluids and I didn't do xrays and ultrasound so this must be my fault. The clinic was sold recently and seems to be profit driven I was always happy with the care that Dr Beth provided, but not so much with the bew doctors. I have moved my pets to another clinic. The rudeness from McKenzie (a manager) over the phone was condescending & she seemed to be enjoying it. Threatening collections over $8...We had to use them for an operation costing over $600 for a stray we rescued. After the surgery they couldn't get the halo/helmet on our cat & McKenzie offered a body suit instead on her follow up call without explaining more costs... I wanted to return both the helmet & suit since our cat didn't use either, but her reply was a hard no on the suit return & if we didn't pay the $8 balance for the suit we didn't use she'd send us to collections. I never said 1 word about not paying. I stated it was on principle that she offered a solution without disclosing additional costs & instead of apologizing she was adamant & arrogant. I could sneeze & spend $8 but the behavior of this manager is just out of control. read more

I had a vet and requested an appointment online for 1. My new puppy and 2. My other dog had gotten in a fight with one of my bigger dogs and I wanted to make sure he was OK. I waited and waited, and I never got a call back. Why have online appointment requests if you don't call people back? It was actually a blessing in disguise. I decided to call Mokelumne River vet and I was given an appointment immediately. Everyone was so friendly to the front desk to the Vet. The office is big, clean and well organized. They see all kinds of animals from dogs to horses and the staff was awesome. I am so glad I found them and look forward to them taking care of my fur babies from here on out! Something has changed tremendously. I have been taking my pets here for 15 years. My parents brought all our pets here and I continue to. They've been through puppy pets, to surgeries to passings. It used to be great service, compassionate, clean and the most pet friendly people. I provided a courtesy call when I knew I was going to be 10 minutes late to an appointment as I drive 30 miles and happened to catch a little traffic. I had already waited weeks for this puppy appointment. When calling Sherry answered. I told her I'd be a little late to my 4pm appointment, as I've waited 15 minutes on each appointment to be taken back in addition to the wait in the room for the vet to enter I didn't think it was an issue and wanted to be courteous that I was near and still planning to show. Sherry said hold up let me check. She returned and said "not today as the doctor has a 4:30 appointment out of office". I told her that it was only 10 minutes and I've waited weeks. She said it didn't matter they couldn't accommodate me. I proceeded to ask why the doctor would even book an appointment at 4:30, they close at 5:30 and if she had to leave at the time of my appointment they messed up. I even got out of early from work to make this appointment. She didn't have a good reply and said I had already eaten into my appointment time with the 10 minutes. It wasn't the day they can accommodate and oh well. She wasn't pleasant and needs to work on her phone etiquette. If they can't accommodate a client who is providing a courtesy call and close early then they need to notify clients beforehand. I'll be looking for another vet sadly. It's terrible they need to train their phone staff better as the vets and techs are usually amazing. Moral of the story show up late and don't bother making a courtesy call. read more

I cannot express how grateful we are for Dr.Beth Klapstein and her team. We were out of town visitors and showed up very dramatically with our labradoodle that we thought was dying. They did not turn us away, rather, they took our precious boy and spent an entire Saturday running tests and watching over him carefully (he was ok!) Dr.Beth was so kind and fully explained everything they did to rule out all our concerns. She was so caring and the staff was as well. I have used this vet for several years but will be looking for a new one after today. My 14.5 year old lab poodle mix is in pretty good shape. She is arthritic, trouble getting up and down. Took her for her yearly checkup At MRVS about six weeks ago. They gave her a trial of a drug to help with her arthritis. Miracle drug, she is like a pup again! $200+ for blood tests to make sure it's not harming her in some way (c'mon, she's nearly15, what's the issue here?), but ok, it helps her, I love her, pay it, move on. They give her 30 days worth of the drug for $35. I call them on a Wednesday to get the refill, going away for the weekend on Friday, need to keep her meds going. They can't get to it on Wed, so I call on Thursday, wait nearby all day (I live 25 miles away) they can't get to it. When I called to beg them to refill the prescription late Thursday, I got upset when they said they couldn't get to it. Told them I have to leave before they open tomorrow. When I laid some guilt on the gal I talked to, "you'll be leaving my 15 yo dog without these meds for several days, she will be hurting," the response was "I guess she will." The compassion of this vet clinic is lacking. Couldn't spare A few minutes to fill that prescription for the old dog, who has been a patient since she was a young dog. So disappointing. Doubling up on the Duraflex till I can get that prescription and find a better vet read more

This place needs to be shut down. I brought my dog in because I was concerned about her teeth, and they told me that she "just has bad breath." A few months later, I had to bring her back in because her teeth were falling out. Then, they insisted that I pay over $500 so they could perform dental surgery. I went back last week for an emergency (I couldn't get an appointment anywhere else), and they have a freaking tower of pamphlets in the waiting room corner that says "bad breath might be an indicator of something worse." NO. FUCKING. SHIT. Again, they pressed me to pay up the arse for surgery, and when I said I wanted to get a second opinion, they immediately shut me down. I was literally cut off mid sentence by the vet. Not only did they not listen to my concerns, my bill was $100 over the high end estimate of what the visit was supposed to cost. Now, this I could let go, because it was an emergency appointment, but... They called me at the end of their business hours, about two hours after I got my tired & drugged pup back home, to let me know that they forgot to give me her paperwork. I mentioned to THREE different employees that I had to get a ride back to pick her up in the first place because I was having car trouble, and they insisted that I drive back to pick up the paperwork that they forgot to give me. Keep in mind, my dog just got home after a traumatic day, is drugged, and I have to leave her home alone to make up for their mistake. I used my little handheld jumpstarter to get my car started, started back towards MRVS, and about five minutes into my drive, got a call saying that they were just going to leave my paperwork outside for me to pick up, because they were locking the building and turning off the phones. ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME?! Fine, whatever, I need the paperwork for the next vet, I don't have a choice, and I'm on my way, anyway. I get there, find the mailbox that is tucked behind the building where they put my pup's paperwork, and I run into a nurse. She has the fucking audacity to say, "oh, I just put a CD of her x-rays in there, thought you might like something free." WHAT?! I asked you to email me her x-rays HOURS ago, and you think that a CD is going to make up for all of the bs that MRVS has been? I DON'T HAVE A CD DRIVE!! Jesus Christ, someone save me from this hell. I have to wait one more day to get that second opinion (which I am abso-fucking-lutely getting), and in the meantime, I have not only MRVS calling me, but also three different surgeons that they insisted I go to. Literally from 8:00am to 7:53pm I have been getting calls. These people are effing sharks, and they don't give a rat's arse about you or your pet. Unless you just need routine vaccines, take your pet literally anywhere else. Also, their front grassy area is crawling with fleas. read more

I have used Mokelumne River for both my horses and my dogs and cats and have always been happy with the results. Most recently, Dr. Klapstein and Dr. Valinoti and their staff went above and beyond to get my corgi through a very serious bout of pancreatitis. It took two weeks of hospitalization, tests and medicines to get him home. They kept us informed every step of the way. My grandfather took his cat in because she was declining and needed to be euthanized and instead of helping him they forced him to wait outside in the heat and hide in the back of the building so that "it didnt affect the other clients" I have been in the Veterinary field for over 10 years and I understand being busy and the issue with Covid-19 right now but when a euthanasia comes in that takes precedence. You don't force a grieving family to wait like that. Not to mention she absolutely suffered and began to have seizures due the the stress, heat and her declining health condition. This was a moment that can never be changed and will always stay with us. We brought her to the vet for help and compassion and all we got was watching her suffer and die in my grandfather's arms. Absolutely heartbreaking and unnecessary. I am so disheartening and ashamed of my fellow veterinary field businesses, you don't treat clients this way. read more

I have bringing my fur critters here for several years and have been happy with the MDs and staff. I recently had a pet emergency, and despite their normal closing hours of noon on Saturday, the vet stayed until well past three to make sure El Gato was sutured up and getting the needed medicines. When the fur baby was ready to come home on Monday they gave me detailed printed instructions as well as a free follow up visit to recheck his wounds. I noticed they have stalls and can accommodate large animals as well. Would definitely recommend this vet clinic! read more

I thought I had posted this review but it sat in the draft folder all this time. This review was from October 11, 2011. I agree with the previous review. This place is real super CHEAP compared to all vets I've been to at different locations.! When we moved to California from the Wash DC area 10 years ago, at that time, we had an old dog and four cats (one of them had Chronic Renal Failure). That cat needed to have blood work every three months to check kidney values. We tried Sierra Veterinary Clinic but found them to be very expensive and very busy. Sometime times, I get the feeling I'm being rushed but I kept on going to them until a dog breeder friend of mine told me she takes her dogs to Mokelumne River Veterinary Services in Lockeford. Said they were very good... So, when my dog developed a pain in the leg. He was limping real bad. Decided to try this place. I was prepared to pay big bucks considering what he went through, several x-rays, blood work, gave him several vacination shots as well, and some RX to take home. I was prepared mentally having to pay around $300 but my eyes literally popped out when we got the final bill. It was somewhere around $86. I thought to myself, is that all??? Maybe they missed something on the bill, but no! Heck, I will drive more than 35 miles from Stockton to Lockeford just to be seen by them. On top of that, most importantly, their compassion. They care about your pets' well being as if they were their own. They would even call you and ask you how your pets were doing. The doctors themselves, not the receptionist! Most of all, I appreciate their patience. You see, I am deaf and do not read lips very well. They are very patient writing things back and forth with me on paper. So you can imagine how much time this would take. After all this time, they never made me feel like they were rushed. Yes, they do send condolence cards. It even has the vet's signature with some personal comments! How many would take the time to actually sign the cards themselves? Many more visits with different animals, they continue to amaze me with their prices and continued compassion. I have referred many people from the Bay area. They were willing to drive far just to be seen by them. Kudos to Dr. Valentini, Dr. Klapstein and Dr. Smith! Stay there forever, please? read more

My dog has been suffering from allergies. They were able to get my dog in for an exam in a very timely manner and I feel she got care that was the best and newest available. This last time the vet came out to talk with me since I left my phone at home. We followed covid rules even though we both had been vaccinated. It was great to be able to talk to her. Since covid though everything seems to take a lot longer. I was there over an hour even though I had an appointment. It took 2 weeks to get the appointment which is unusual too. We have been taking our animals to Mokelumne River Vet for over 15 years. I actually have friends that I recommended that drive from Elk Grove! Recently I took a new kitten that I rescued to see Dr. Klapstein. It was so great to be able to go into the office and not have to wait in the car! She spent a long time with "Louise" and only did what was necessary to make her better. As always...unnecessary tests and expenses were not done. I told Dr. Beth that we recently moved to a 10 acre parcel in Acampo and needed barn cats. She actually trusted me and gave me two male tabbies.
