Note: I will do my best to fit this epic saga I'm about to tell into the allotted space while ensuing to include anything that might be helpful for anyone looking to test for mold
Our mold journey/quest began when my boss (Judd) tested positive for two mycotoxins, Ochratoxin & Citrinin (CTN).
The most logical conclusion was that we have mold in either our office, Judd's condo, or both,
Concurrently to judd testing positive for mycotoxins, 2 of the HVAC units in our office were leaking... when the leak was getting serviced we discovered visible mold not only in the units getting fixed but i in all 7 units. We immediately closed our office telling everyone to wfh and looked for a company to test for mold.
Mold inspection pros is the 3rd mold inspector that we had come.
Literally a godsend finding Yaron - lifesaver, master mold hunter, plus walking encyclopedia of mold fact! Not only was he the 1st/only inspector to do what he said he would as far as timing etc but also he was the only inspector to actually inspect the entire house or office thoroughly. He pointed out anything that we need to put attention to as well as any areas that were likely to have mold. He tested based on his findings as opposed to the other companies who would play pin the tail on the donkey mold tester edition, picking spots just randomly and all over the place just racking up charges since they charge per sample. Lastly Yaron explained everything clearly and was able to find the source, telling us exactly what to ask the remediation company to do to be able to fully treat it getting rid of it at the source.
Details on the first 2 inspection companies and how much they failed:
- 1st inspector We discovered was using the same air sample collection device that we had purchased from Lowe's for $99, it allows you to collect your own samples and have them tested for $35/sample. However this tester was charging $125/sample.
- 2nd tester - extremely late and ended up canceling first appointment. He started changing pricing on me when he found out that the business was paying for the testing. He would basically talk in circles and insult my intelligence by gaslighting me on costs and what things were "necessary" to have done. Also every time I was able to get a hold of him he would say he'll call me back in 10 mins but not once did he call back even, every time I would end up calling him after waiting sometimes until the next day
Conclusion:
I 100% recommend mold inspection pros. This industry in particular is full of untrustworthy, unlicensed service providers just looking to get as much money out of you as possible. Which makes finding a legit company that you can trust that much more of an asset.
Note/tip for spotting potentially untrustworthy companies that seem to have great reviews - I noticed quite a few 5 start mold inspectors with a significant number of reviews however upon closer inspection of the reviews I noticed every single reviewer only had 1 review. Seems a bit unlikely that 100+ reviewers decided to review this mold company and haven't written and other reviews with that account. read more
