My favorite place for sushi in Stone Ridge. Absolutely love the green Phoenix and the amazing roll - great job with the Seabass too.

Drove by this restaurant for 15 years until we decided to check it out. Parking is in the rear and ample. Interior is about what you would expect for a Japanese restaurant at this price point, nice but not elegant. Service was very attentive. As for the menu it is very extensive and contains some surprising dishes. But the real bread and butter is sushi and sashimi and they definitely deliver with fresh, fine quality seafood. I would recommend you try this restaurant as you may not have ever noticed it at the corner of 209 & 213. I will certainly return. Perhaps the only thing they're lacking is a full liquor license allowing them to serve cocktails. This was immaterial to me as they had a nice lectionary of saki and beer. read more

I order sushi from here about once a week. It's always awesome. The last couple of weeks I had a chest cold and some congestion. OMG the beef udon soup is so rich and healing and warming. I'm cured. It's gonna be my winter jam. read more

My better-half and I have been to Momiji twice. Frankly, we have our favorite sushi place down the block from us. We are regulars there and treated as such. The two times we've gone to Momiji was because our regular haunt was close; both times were holidays. There's nothing to complain about regarding Momiji. The service is perfect. We've never waited to be seated, to order, for food to arrive, etc. We always order sashimi. The fish has been fresh and the portions generous. The price is reasonable- not expensive at all. The owners of our regular sushi place told us they were considering selling. We were sad about that, but we take comfort in that we've already found our next regular sushi place. read more

I am new to the area and was craving sushi. I'm used to Los Angeles where a good sushi joint hits you as frequently as you see a Dunkin' Donuts around here. So I was a little worried. In stone ridge there are two sushi options. Rating 4 stars based on ulster county sushi. Rainbow Roll: would get again. Naruto Roll: LOVE that this is an option. I was in Stone Ridge for the evening, and was contemplating whether or not I wanted to search for some easy dish to make in my Airbnb, or go out to one of the few restaurants within walking distance of me. I chose the latter. About a two minute walk from where I was staying, Momiji is neither unassuming nor in-your-face. I walked in, was kindly greeted, and chose to sit at the bar so I could be directly in front of the sushi action. I started off with the rock shrimp and a cold Ichiban beer. I was provided with a Sapporo glass, and poured the Ichiban beer into the glass, immediately thinking, "is this somehow bad luck?". I shrugged it off and decided to get a Sapporo for my next drink. The rock shrimp was nothing short of superb. It was just enough food and worked out as a great, flavorful (and colorful) appetizer. I then ordered the appetizer sushi special (five pieces of sushi, chef's choice), then tuna and yellowtail sushi. The sushi special and my main sushi choice arrived together, sharing the same plate. The appetizer chef's sushi choice was tuna, yellowtail and salmon sushi. I now had double the salmon and double the yellowtail. I didn't have enough time to internally complain. I devoured each piece with care, hoping the sushi chefs would take notice of my chopstick skills. They did not. But I did enjoy this thoroughly, even though I made an unknown double order. After two Sapporos I needed more, so I ordered eel, salmon and tuna sushi. It was just as good if not better. I didn't fully expect to find great sushi in rural New York, but I was pleasantly surprised. I would run into Momiji any chance you get, if you are in the area. read more

I tried Momiji for the first time two weeks ago. I wasn't feeling all that well so avoided sushi. I ordered the King Crab Soup, Vegetable Spring Rolls, and hot tea. The soup was warm, filling, delicious, and had huge chunks of king crab. The spring rolls were light, delicate, and very tasty. The servers were very nice and attentive. A real treat for the area. Fine sushi and Japanese dishes made with care and creativity. A terrific menu and wide assortment of sake (including the very hard to find milky white cold Snow Beauty.) While fish prices have skyrocketed the size of the sushi has slightly shrunk in order to keep the meals affordable. The best sushi restaurant in Ulster county, and I would also venture to say Dutchess as well. The owner has said a second one opened in Rhinebeck. Everything is very well prepared and the fish is very fresh. The restaurant it self is very stylish like our favorite ones out in California. If you sit at the sushi bar ask the head chef to make something creative off menu, you will not be disappointed. read more

This is a good sushi restaurant. Read predictable, fresh, quick, price-worthy. The staff are nice and very attentive. I only had sushi and sashimi, no cooked food, but both were attractively presented and tasty. Sake choices were good and other wines were available as well. We used to go here regularly (3-4 times a month) since it opened. Late last year my husband and I had a complaint and the owner treated us with rancor and utter disrespect. We have since not gone and turned our business over to Asia across the street, which is cleaner and less expensive and where the owner knows how important it is to treat customers with respect and consideration. In addition, during the last year Momiji has looked dirty and my hubby once got sick after eating there. One of the servers is particularly rude and even sarcastic. And the owner (not David who used to be here before he opened Momiji in Rhinebeck) is not customer-friendly. read more

Sadly, it was not all the other reviews had made the place out to be. It was a Friday night and there was one waitress for a dozen tables. She was moving fast, and working hard, but the food was really the main reason for the low rating. It was, for lack of a better word, skimpy. The vegetables in the rolls we got were not particularly fresh or flavorful. The shrimp was relatively tasteless, and the sauce on the Stony River roll overpowered everything else. Momiji is a very good sushi restaurant. I've had numerous rolls here (the Buddha is my favorite) and the food has always been fresh and tasty. The vegetable noodle bowls are very satisfying and the portion is just right for me. The decor is average and the service is very fast and friendly. For better Japanese you'll have to drive an hour. read more

Always get take-out from here, never been disappointed. All ingredients are very fresh and they have a great selection of rolls. Mexican roll is my favorite and they make it better than anywhere else around. Can't say much for their table service as I always get take-out. Long time patron of this amazing lil gem in a tiny lil town. We love the tataki appetizer and the spicy tuna rolls here are the best I've ever had. And I've been to Asia 3 times!! White tuna and yellowtail are my favorites. Always get toro if its offered! Sit at the bAr for intimacy with the chefs and an entertainment factor to your dinner. we decided to do family dinner at momiji to change it from our regular spot (asia right across the street). Our party of 7 arrived on time to our reservation and were coldly greeted by one of the waitresses who brought us to our table and dismissed us. we sat without menus and waited for a server to come take our drink order and bring us menus and after 20 minutes of waiting we approached the sushi chef and asked if someone was going to bring us drinks. he told us he has nothing to do with that and said to ask one of the women standing behind the other counter. mind you the restaurant was not even that busy. finally the one waitress comes over we get menus and asks what we would be having to drink. another 15 minutes goes by and the drinks come out and the server gives us a huge attitude because we wanted to order. She takes our orders and disappears again. We waited a hour just sitting there. no one asked if we needed refills or if everything was ok. finally the one girl comes over to the table and we ask what the deal is with the food. she gives us the same attitude and says it'll be done when it's done. a half hour later half the food comes out. our food was either under cooked or over cooked. my girl friends sushi wasn't cold and did not taste fresh. my steak was so fatty and burnt i couldn't eat half of it. all of the sea food dishes were under cooked. on top of it, 5 of the party of 7 got stomach sick later that night. long story short if you want fast friendly service with a smile that also has good quality food and will make you want to go back, do not pick momiji. read more

Super attentive service and unique rolls. WE got the stone ridge roll which I thought had too much avo (which made the whole thing taste kinda mushy.) Other notes: the seaweed was more chewy than crunchy and the rice should be a little more sticky (it looked like regular chinese rice rather than sushi rice). read more

Best sushi in the area, including New Paltz and Kingston area. I don't agree with the expense listed for the restaurant. This place is no more expensive than other sushi joints, $20-25 a person if you're not drinking. I've been here with my wife several times now, usual order is 2 of the bigger rolls ($14-15), 2 of the smaller ($5-7), an order or 2 of sushi and a seaweed salad, right around $50. The quality is excellent, the only reason I didn't give 5 stars is the service is inconsistent. 2 times we've been there the service has been slow as molasses, on a not particularly busy night. The other 2 times the service has been fine. Regardless, this is our preferred spot for sushi. read more
