Oh. My. Heavens. For…read morethose that don't know, I will only leave a review if I'm extremely impressed or very disappointed and dissatisfied. I'm a huge snob, even when it comes to dive restaurants. I have resolved to only write positive reviews on places that I believe truly deserve the praise they have earned. This is one of those places. This joint is completely unassuming. Sparse decoration, low drop-tile ceiling, brightly lit (too bright for your usual Mediterranean joint), HDTV menus near the front register... But, does a restaurant need anything other than a great menu and delicious, freshly prepared, well-spiced fare to be an amazing experience? I answer loudly "NO!" This restaurant is wonderful. They serve some of the best Mediterranean food I've had, and I've been many places throughout the US and internationally. Finding this in my own back yard makes me so happy to live in GR. My wife and I split the spicy feta fries, which neither of us could stop shoving in our mouths. Now, a bit about me - I survived a massive heart attack five years ago. Five bypasses. Month in a coma. Six months learning to walk again. I SHOULD NOT BE EATING FRIES!! And yet... I couldn't help myself. Each bite was perfection in crispy potato form. And a heavy garlic presence. The toum is worth it. Completely worth it. Gives Sheshco a serious run for best in town. Not greasy or too "mayonnaise-y." She had the shish tawook ("chicken kabob") and I had a gyro pita. Her chicken was stunningly tender and temptingly well-seasoned. Rice was floral and delicious. Hummus, not quite garlicky enough, but smooth and refreshing. And the Nutella cheesecake was heavy and smooth and wonderful. My gyro was obviously done in-house, same as the pickled turnips ("liyft"). love pickled turnips, and I truly believe that these aren't the commercially available jarred ones. Gyro meat was well-spiced, perfectly tasty and amazingly tender. The service was warm and friendly. Wife and I will be back again...and again. We hope to see you there!! Worth a drive and some time. Bring an empty tummy and get ready to enjoy!!

This review is solely on my experience and not the integrity of the bagel itself. I was fascinated when a colleague recommended this place in Rockford for breakfast and I had no idea what to expect when I pulled up to an old home. When I walked in, I was greeted with delicious coffee aromas being ground while people were buying pounds of fresh ground beans. I was confused about the ordering process, but friendly customers explained the procedure. First, you get in line and pick your drink and order a customizable bagel. I picked a sandwich because I was hungry, so I opted for a full on sandwich. I chose an onion bagel with house-made smoked and sliced roast beef, egg, pepper Jack cheese, horseradish sauce, onion, tomato, and lettuce. Yum! The bagels are homemade and on the smaller side so I was able to scarf down the whole sandwich whilst enjoying a large NOLA coffee brew. All of this came to under $10. A great value and interesting experience. After, ordering you can find a seat and they come find you to come back to the counter to pay. You only pay when your food is ready. Then its cafe seat yourself territory. They also have random items for sale and interesting curiosities hidden in the nooks and crannies of this space. Certainly worth a visit based on vibes and price point alone. the food did not disappoint. Smoked meats for the win!

Always some seasonal roasts too plus a confectionery and bakery . All meats cooked on the egg , take and bake meals too , burritos and shellfish pie ! It's so many things that we find ourselves going often even for a bagel or bagel dog ( good enough for Ginger Zee to serve at her wedding ) if you haven't been you need to go !

As Restaurant Week's final day draws to a close, we chose to try The Bier Distillery…read more Off a busy road, not too far from the West River Drive exit, is a well lit restaurant adorned with wooden barrel tables and chairs. Lofted above is a great looking outdoors complete with heat lamps and a mini A framed covered area that can be rented for parties. We were greeted warmly by friendly staff and given a kids menu, draft and spirits menu, regular menu and restaurant week menu. Menus galore! We went with the 3 course meal (many items can be ordered on the regular menu) for $25. I ordered the tomato paprika soup and my husband got the split pea soup. Of the two, the split pea soup was the clear winner. Two kinds of pork (cubed and shredded), well balanced seasoning and texture married well to enhance a soup I've loved since childhood. I could've easily eaten a bowl for my meal. The accompanying homemade Dutch Rye Bread, though I'm sure it's authentic, I didn't care for. It was dense, soft and had an off putting flavor. The second course we had was equally delicious. My hubby had the beef and pork sausage overtop a bed of mashed potatoes with kale, onions and bacon. I loved the addition of kale and the sausage was tasty. Everything was well seasoned. My beef slow cooked with apples and beer was delicious. I wish it had been served with more beef. It would have been nice to have some bigger chunks of meat to dive into. The mashed potatoes they came with were good, but the potatoes with kale were the star between the two dishes. The kid's meals were also good. The hamburger had a nice smokey flavor with a tasty side of fries. My daughter didn't care for her Mac 'n cheese, but that's because it was too refined for her palette. The Gouda cheese was complimented by the egg noodles. The third course was dessert. I tried the restaurant Flip custard: Dutch custard, fruit compote, and topped with a dollop of Greek Yogurt. It came with a cute spoon that gave the perfect portions and the flavors all complemented each other well. I would order this again and again. It was a great balance of tangy, fruity and sweet. My husband had the stroopwafle icecream. It was also good, and came with a cute mini stroopwafle. I washed all this down with their Bier Distillery Lager and tried a flavored banket spirit. This restaurant originally was just a beer and specialty liquor spot. I love that they now serve food, because that was the highlight of our evening. I wish this establishment was closer to our home, but perhaps will come back when the weather is nicer to enjoy the outdoor patio. Definitely come and check out this The Bier Distillery for yummy Dutch inspired food and drink! Worth the drive.

Now the food wow is a good word to describe what we ate. We started with the bitterballin which is beef croquettes with spicy mustard and a cup of split pea soup. We split a burger with carmelized onions pickles and paprika mayo and had a garden salad with dill pickle vinaigrette They have so much to offer and it so unique.
