This place is only doable as a patio spot. The drinks are weak, probably the weakest I've had in any town. I once had someone give me a Busch n/a mixed with some 3.5% MInnesota grocery store beer and these felt weaker. It was super cheap though, and the patio is pretty wonderful. Dive bars seem to be the "cool" thing, so if that's you then this is your spot. Especially if you like drinking tonic water with a splash of gin. Otherwise you might want to pre-drink before you get to the patio because the drinks aren't going to do it. read more

I'm very on the fence about this place, I've had both good experiences and bad. Bad stuff first: Only a couple things really bug me about Momo, but one is that they have a really awesome patio, but it's always overrun with smokers. I know that's not necessarily their fault, but it doesn't make the place any more appealing. On weekend nights, they also have someone at the door watching capacity, and the same guy has been very rude to me/my group on multiple occasions. It's really frustrating to be told there's a 20 minute wait when you can see plenty of standing room and three open booths right behind the guy. On top of that he's always kind of bratty and condescending about the whole situation. Aside from that, the bar service is normally pretty solid with the exception of an off night here and there, but I think that's understandable for any given bar. They have a really great ambiance and pretty reasonable prices, and a good variety of beers. End takeaways: Momo is great for happy hour, but one of that last places I'd try to go on a Friday or Saturday night. read more

About 9 years ago, my friend Chris (may he RIP) was an owner/investor in MoMo so we used to go there often for drinks and to listen to live music. I liked the decor better back then because it wasn't so dark. As it is, the black and red reminds me of Hades...which may be the look the owners are going for. Regardless, the food is still good and rather cheap. We came in last night after church. Some may say that's hypocritical, but we believe that spirits in moderation are acceptable (usually that means just one, so as to stay under the .08 rule of the road). We also wanted food and like the menu they have at MoMo. My brother ordered a nacho. You should have seen the look on his face when the monstrosity was placed in front of him. Literally, it took all 6 of us to finish it. My friend to the right of me ordered a grilled cheese sandwich (with turkey added). She said it was really good. I took her word for the sandwich, but being a huge potato salad fan, had to try hers. No clue if it was home made or not, but it was delicious! So was the ravioli my friend gobbled down (practically licking his plate clean). The bar has a pool table for people who just can't sit still. It also has a fantastic backyard patio - that you wouldn't know about unless you walked in and to the back of the bar or someone told you about it (similar to that of North 45). I love to have my food and drink out there in the summer. One night, back when Chris was an owner, we all were sitting on the patio (under the stars) and heard some rustling in the greenery along the fence (which was adorned with twinkly lights). Startled, I asked Chris what the noise was. His reply? "Baby squirrels". While that may not be true, we all signed relief and gushed about how cute that sight must be. Hence forth, we loved sitting out back amongst the "Baby squirrels". I'm hoping that story gets passed along to other patrons who may hear movement in the bushes - because it's must sweeter sounding than "A ghost", "Rats" or "A stray cat" (for non-cat lovers). read more

The outdoor seating area is great- but the sheer number of smokers out there keeps me from loving this place. They charged me extra for a drink I did not have, and then when I disputed it and asked to see an itemized receipt, the girl just rolled her eyes and offered me $2 off the price of a drink I didn't drink. So I paid for something I never bought or consumed. They also tried to tell me the two beers I bought were not the happy hour price when I bought them, which is why my bill was more than expected. But I specifically remember the bartender who was serving me earlier in the night telling me my drink was $5 both times I bought it. If you go here I would suggest paying in cash for each drink so you don't get overcharged. Wouldn't recommend. read more

My friends and I come here for trivia pretty often - It's Tuesdays at 7, check the Last Call Portland website first for hints. Pretty easy trivia, and a more charismatic hostess than I've seen at some other Last Calls. Other than the trivia, it's a pretty standard dive. I like it, but the food is all two-to-three stars (except the nachos), the outdoor area is smoky, the indoor area is a little cramped and noisy, the bathrooms smell funny, and the lines to the bar get *very long* BUT the margaritas are delicious, the food is a great deal, and especially if you're there for happy hour, you can't beat $3 drafts. When we win trivia, our group of five has trouble spending our $30 gift certificate because everything is so cheap! The bartenders have always been nice and helpful. read more

My first 5 star review but this place deserves it. The outside patio is very large and gorgeous with heat lamps to keep you warm in the colder months. These things really warm up too! Ours was turned off and we got help from a bartender very quickly. The drinks were good. I couldn't taste too much vodka in my red bull but hey that's ok. It must have been me, ya know? What really sold me was when one of the bartenders started playing Pinback and we had a short talk over how much we love them. Overall I thought the vibes at Momo's were fun and positive. I don't come here much in the winter as I mainly like their patio; but if you're into dim, divey bars, you'll love it here. Dropped by for the first time with some family members on an April Friday night. Walking in, I thought, "How cool. Looks just like the dark dive bars you see in the movies." Not being big drinkers, we needed help. Beavis to the rescue! After a few pointed questions, he made a few suggestions that were all spot-on. Another reviewer complained that they have no blender. I actually love this 'cause Momo's makes their libations Old School Style. They don't need no stinkin' blenders. The music options on the jukebox are varied and awesome. After reading previous reviews mentioning the patio, I'll definitely go back on a warm day to enjoy it along with another tasty cocktail hopefully prepared by Beavis. read more

This place is one of the cooler hole in the walls in downtown Portland to go for drinks in the evening. It has a spacious outdoor patio outback which you reallly can't find in the city anywhere else. The things that did dissapoint me a little about this place was that the service at the bar was somewhat slow considering the place wasn't that busy(would hate to see it packed), and the bar tenders didn't seem overly eager to help customers. I also would like to see a few more beers on tap for a bar that is essentiually in the craft beer mecca on the country. My type of bar. On our visit to Portland, we ventured downtown to meet a friend who was staying in the Hilton. The concierge recommend the Fish House for a place with eat and drinks, so we were there first for some appetizers and expensive drinks. But the Fish House was a bit too snooty for our taste, so we asked the waitress if there is a real bar in the area, and she recommended Momo's to us. Momo's is a typical neighborhood dive bar, but in a fancy downtown location. The bartenders were friendly, the drinks strong and reasonable. We played some pool, enjoyed the patio, and my boyfriend watched sports on the tv. For a Sunday night, the patio area had a decent number of people to make it feel lively enough. This is a pretty standard dive, but a good place to meet up with friends for a laid back happy hour. After placing your order, I recommend avoiding the inside and moving right along to the back patio. Not the most expansive or greatest food menu, with the exception of some pretty decent nachos. This has been a spot i have recommended to groups of people looking for a spot after an evening at Whitsell Auditorium. We came with a group of 8. There was a very rude female bartender who served us. When we got our bill I noticed there were a couple extra drinks on it and could she remove the 2 we did not order. She flew off the rails, telling me that i was wrong, then threw the drink she had just made us away then begrudgingly removed the 2 drinks we did not order from our tab. Wow. Terrible Experience! Bartender demanded I provide him with "paperwork" to prove my service animal and my disability are legit? Completely illegal and just wrong! After educating this man, he became extremely upset. After asking his name and what his position was at this establishment, he identified himself as a 'long term employee'. He then physically threatened and attacked me. A second bartender and a patron had to get in between us to stop him from proceeding to attack me. I filed a police report and hope this man is held accountable for his actions. I have been trying to reach the owners but they are not returning my call. Shame on them! read more

Been here a couple of times, and while the bartenders are way too hipster, they were all decent enough; not overly friendly, not exceptionally rude either. Last time I was here, I ordered food (never ate their before). The bartender asked where I was sitting, and I told him outside. "It's a pretty big patio. Can you be more descriptive?" It didn't occur to me that they don't give you a placard with a number so the person who runs the food out to you will know where to find you. You just have to keep your eye out for your food and hope you can flag the person down before your meal is dropped off at the wrong table. My grilled cheese was good but it had too much cheese, which is difficult for me to say because I LOVE cheese. Their potato salad wasn't bad either, and I don't care for potato salad (nor cole slaw, their other side option.) My friend ordered the nachos and it was HUGE. Not particularly awesome, but not particularly awful either. They need to give the customer a number when they ordered food. Every other place does it - with good reason. Do I give this place a crap review in an attempt to keep it a secret? No, that's a jerk move that I will not pull, sir. Me and some friends have been going here for trivia night Tuesdays and win nearly every week; not because we're smart, but because barely anyone plays. And it's a shame because the prizes are very generous gift certificates, and once you win once you just kinda get stuck in this endless loop of coming back to the place getting free drinks from your previous winnings. But if me and the friends keep doing that, then we'll clean the house 'cause the bar doesn't earn any money if we don't pay them (except for tips which they deserve in SPADES), and then we don't have a bar to go to 'cause it'll go out of business 'cause we haven't been paying them... D: So. Go to this bar, they rock. Their drinks are cheap, their service is great, the LOCATION IS GREAT, between two MAX lines? You can get drunk off your ass and stumble onto the train 20 feet away! My first time here was this past Saturday, and it will be my last. Some friends and I were looking for a dry place to have a drink after the march (as was half of Portland), and we happened across Momo. At all times there was a line 10-15 people deep at the bar to order drinks/food, apparently no table service. When I finally made it up to the bar to order (10 minutes standing in line), a guy who I saw walk in minutes earlier bypassed the line and walked up to the bar, where the bartender proceeded to take his order instead. I politely said "you realize all of those people are waiting in line to order" to which the bartender and himself both said "we don't do lines here"......"uhhhh you have a line 10 people deep, so yes you do lines". Bartender: "there just happens to be people forming a line, but we don't do lines". Baffled by this moronic logic I paid for my drink (no tip) and walked away. Management should really have a talk with their employees - they are the face of your company....and they're doing a really lousy job. The hipster "I don't care about you "attitude isn't cool. It seems like common sense to me, but clearly that isn't very common anymore. The space and/or happy hour isn't anything special either, definitely not good enough to endure rude service at a wanna-be hipster bar. read more

The customer service at this place is absolutely terrible. I went there the other night before seeing a movie at Fox Tower. Came in about 4:45pm. The place was pretty much empty. The girl working the bar was attentive in allowing me to place an order for my FIRST drink. (In case you're wondering, she's small, has long hair, and judging by her attitude, thinks she's pretty amazing since she's a bartender.) So, I drink my beer in their dungeon-y, red-light environment. Fine. I finish my drink, and look at her and another dude to try to get their attention, you know, so I can give them some money for another drink. The girl was not so interested in that. Instead, she chose to text, talk to her hipster Portland boyfriend, and ignore me. She saw me trying to get her attention, and completely ignored me. Oh, and as I recall, she served some people who came in (her hipster regular-drinkin' friends), then when they were served and she had no line again, continued to ignore me. Eventually after I processed the fact that no one was going to walk the five feet to where I was sitting AT THE BAR, I walked up to them, at which point, only when I was directly in front of their faces and they literally were unable to block me out, did they ask "Can I get you something?" I ordered, closed out, left a tip that I really shouldn't have. At Momo, they are actively hostile to you. If you're not someone they know, they treat you like you're a piece of shit. I can't recall EVER visiting a bar that seemed to have zero interest in serving drinks. I was appalled. What a crappy establishment. The ONLY good thing about this place is that I met my girlfriend there. More luck than anything. Never going back again. Absolutely ridiculous the way I was treated there on Wednesday, January 8, 2014. There is no excuse for it. I hope someone who works there reads this and realizes that you were extremely rude and this is not the way to run a business, much less treat people. I hope you get your act together and treat people with respect, and not ignore them because they're not your boyfriend. read more

Best neighborhood, chill, end-up, home bar, call it anything bar in downtown Portland. Once again not looking for staff to kiss my ass or be my bestfriend, just want a stiff drink with bartenders who know how to pour! Vibe is chill, you can find all sorts of people from all walks of life there. Show up wearing a prom dress or sweats and the staff will treat you the same and no one will look at you like you dont belong. Very disappointed in my recent experience. I still love the setting at Momo's and the prices. However, on a recent trip to Momo's my friends and I were accused over and over for smoking weed at their outside tables. Obviously, we were not. Our initial reaction was that we thought it was humorous and told them that it wasnt us. Then when they went and got whoever was in charge to come and question/threaten us we decided to get a little more defensive. We let them know how we felt and promptly left. These guys came out to our table and our table only at least three times. They were extremely rude in their questioning. Every other time I have gone I had a good experience, but this one is unforgivable. I wont be back. read more

If you're a smoker who loves cheap dive bars, this is your new favorite place. They leave the door open to the smoking patio (which questions legality) so the entire place reeks of smoke. Last stop on a night of barhopping a few weeks back. First impression stepping into the place was very dark and moody, but the vibe was chill and the people were cool (albeit by that time of night, everyone was a bit, or totally, intoxicated). Strong, fairly inexpensive drinks; cool small-style art work to look at it; and surprisingly spacious (plus definitely appreciated that it seemed to be open later than most bars in the downtown area). Not a place to bring a large group. Brought 35 co-workers with a corporate tab. The drinks we had were great and strong! One bartender was EXTREMELY friendly and generous with his pours, the other was incredibly rude. There were five customers not with us, and the rude bartender continually asked us to move away from the bar. Then, stood on top of the bar and yelled for us to move to the patio in the rain... Needless to say, 35 people left in mass and migrated to The Vault. Hope those five other customers had a better experience than we did. I work late downtown, and I send people here all the time and I go here relatively frequently after work. It may seem strange to think of downtown as boring, but on the western part of downtown, Momos may seem like the only option unless you wanna hoof it all the way to 2nd or 3rd, or God forbid, Old Town. I can get a drink here within 2 minutes of walking in the door. After a long day of serving, it's just what I need sometimes. Cool back patio area, and the crowd has yet to be belligerent. Definitely one of my favorite dive bars! It's right across from a smart park so you don't have to deal with downtown parking! The devoted is pretty cool. They have an awesome local artist that does their art. There are large inside booths and a pool table. My favorite area is the back outdoor seating. The back area is huge! Tons of picnic seating where there are high walls, some greenery and it just feels clean and well maintained. They allow dogs in this area which I super love. The bartenders are always awesome and usually the same people. I always do happy hour here which is cheap and drinks are poured well. They usually remember my drink after the first one. The service when sitting in the back patio is always pretty good. The food menu is super limited. It's Definitely a dive bar menu. This place is really busy on the weekends and the crowd is always a chill selection of people. my favorite day to go is Sunday personally. It is a place that is easily over looked from the front looks small and is next to a restaurant and a couple little shops but it's Definitely a great place to go! read more
