    Shio Koji Sake and Momomaki
    Erica B.

Second time at Momotaro with just two people instead of a large group, but the dishes are fairly small so we still got to try a bunch or different dishes! I also really like the Sakegria cocktail! We really liked starting off with the spaghetti. A little spicy but nothing too crazy and really creamy. We were a bit underwhelmed with the Kamo to Momo. You really needed to mop up the sauce in order to get the flavor. Our favorite sushi was the Momomaki for sure. We also really liked the Shio Koji Sake but the avocado is definitely the prominent taste. The Kami Jomaki was decent but definitely a lot of competing flavors with some overpowering mint. We also really enjoyed the unagi which was really saucy and bbq-y. The otoro was super smooth and tasty and I'm glad we got it without rice becuase it wasn't needed!

By far some of the best sushi I've ever had and the way it just melts in your mouth is absolutely exquisite. The interior is divine and the service was impeccable. I came here to celebrate my anniversary, and they even gifted us champagne for the occasion. Our server was so attentive, always on top of what we needed, and everything came out right on time. One of my favorite dishes on the menu is the Momo Maki. For nigiri, I absolutely loved the hamachi (yellowtail) and the akami (bluefin tuna). I also tried the Yakitori Don, which is a grilled chicken thigh over rice with a soft poached egg and it was so flavorful. Another must-try is the Tsukune Dango: chicken dumpling mochi rice topped with a soft egg and truffle mustard, it was so delicious! I also had the Mishima skirt steak on skewers and it was tender and cooked perfectly, though the flavor was a bit mild for my taste. Overall, an unforgettable dining experience and I cannot wait to come back!

Came back for another amazing lunch. One of my favorite interiors, wonderful, attentive service. Tried the scallop Motoyaki, Omakase nigiri, and the burger. Scallop had such a distinct flavor and texture, I wanted to lick the shell. It was pricey but it was a flavorful experience. The Omakase was also amazing, the fish were mostly new to us. I loved trying new the fish, with varying texture and flavors. So good! Kind of spoiled us for quality. The burger is legit one of the best in the city. Bold claim with how many killer burgers exist, this Momo Royale stands out with Asian flavors and a bao bun, complementing the rest of the theme. The fries were also banging, using a Japanese sweet potato. If you haven't tried them, eat these or buy them and bake them. Like a tastier, less sugary sweet potato. The work so well as fries. Definitely coming back to try more items on the menu. Or order the same things.

This review is for the my DoorDash delivery experience at Momotaro. I ordered the deluxe maki sushi box, which comes with 5 different rolls. Most of the rolls tasted fresh and were made with care. However the one with salmon tasted very fishy. If I had dined in I would definitely have asked them for a replacement. I would still order again, since it's easier than finding a reservation here.

The low lighting and earth tone colors really help give the restaurant a moody, evocative vibe. This was our first stop visiting Chicago for the first time for an event, and it did not disappoint. We tried walking into a few other restaurants nearby, but they felt claustrophobic and chaotic, whereas Momotaro immediately made us feel like we could breathe again. Everything we ordered was absolutely delicious. The portions are deceptive, you think one or two choice dishes wouldn't be enough, but everything was extremely filling with every bite. This was probably my favorite version of mapo tofu I've had in a long time, and the bao bun sliders were so delicious, we almost ordered another plate of them!

Dined here for my birthday and it so happened to be the beginning of CRW 2026 as well. The vibes inside are upscale and classy. They printed a birthday menu for me to keep which I think is cool! Every single course was outstanding. Definitely worth the $60 pre fixe CRW meal!!! You might think you wont be full because of the small portions but I left here feeling comfortably full and satisfied! I'll let the pictures do all the talking!

This place is incredible! Love the ambiance - moody, dark and elegant space. Upscale Japanese dining at its best. They are considerate of dietary restrictions and offer a full vegetarian menu, which I thought was awesome. My friend and I shared: - Chefs Sashimi Selection - 16 pieces of sashimi hand picked by the chef. The fish was extremely fresh, and was clearly of very high quality. I enjoyed the Salmon, Amberjack and Flounder the most. - Salmon Avocado Mousse Roll - this is a must try! Melts in your mouth. Absolutely delicious. - Chicken Dumplings - unique presentation, served with a soft poached egg. I thought these were just OK. We were too stuffed for dessert and didn't try their cocktails this time around. I'll definitely be back on my next visit to Chicago!

I was really excited to eat here. I'd heard such incredible reviews, and truly the food was good. I would say I think it's slightly over hyped a bit but very clearly a spot that's loved since it's ALWAYS busy. The fish was fresh and I did enjoy my bites. I will say for what you get it's pricey and might leave you a little hungry if you're just ordering the sushi/nigiri. But again very good bites. Definitely make a reservation. I will say the server helped me pick gluten free options and asked if I was celiac (they have a GF menu so ask for that). The service was pretty slow, but again it's always packed. For reference I went on a Monday evening alone. It's for sure a vibey place. Great for birthdays or groups that are looking to have a fun night out. It's loud inside with music bumping so not exactly a place to sit and have conversations. Will say wish I could give this 3.5 stars because it wasn't bad just maybe not my vibe.

A very cute date night spot in West Loop! The lighting and decor is beautiful! We went in on a Wednesday evening for an early dinner and the place was still packed. The restaurant gets busy so recommend making reservations ahead on Open Table. I ordered the Old Fashioned which was solid, smooth but not overly sweet! Would definitely order the next time too. The place offered a ton of options for vegetarians. We ordered the Cucumber Avocado Maki roll, Veggie Udon and Veggie Chahan, and all the preparations were delicious and bursting with flavor! Would definitely come back for those again! The dessert was delicious too! The servings are generous and the prices decent. Our server was very attentive and friendly. Overall a 10/10 experience and this will be our new Japanese go to spot in the city!

First of all, the vibes are amazing. Intimate candlelight, but slightly too-loud music, making it hard to hear your server. The service is some of the best I've ever experienced, with people cleaning up and switching plates at the perfect time without any interruptions. The pace of the dishes coming out is perfect. The food was good. I'd recommend getting the Nagiri and chicken dumplings. The nagiri was fresh and light. Dumplings kept you feeling warm inside.

We went for lunch on a Friday since they have the burger from the izakaya. Lunch set portions are small. Not very filling but the fish quality is good. We got two lunch sets ( chirashi and nigiri) and split a burger and were comfortable. The burger was definitely the highlight. Sweet potato fries were crispy. It was an expensive lunch but we were able to use our Chase reserve credit on the meal. Not sure if we'd come back and pay full price.

A great vibe, friendly staff, and a lively atmosphere. We ordered: - Tsukane Dango - Beef Tsukune Sliders - Chef's Seasonal Sashimi Selection - Kani Jomaki - Satsumaimo Taruto - Forbidden Murasaki If you're looking for a non-alcoholic beverage, I definitely recommend Forbidden Murasaki. It's delicious and the Ube/coconut is always a tasty mix. For the main course, if you're looking for a bit of everything then you can't go wrong with either chef selection. The fish is extremely fresh and surprisingly filling. Ending with Satsumaimo Taruto for dessert felt a little overwhelming but we found room to finish it off.

    Crystal Z.

Ambiance - intimate, dark, sushi/makis are made in the middle of the restaurant Service - our server was super nice, polite, and gave us a rundown of the menu Food - fish quality was good, highly recommend the maguro for cold appetizer

I could hear the sizzling from the grill, smell the food cooking, and by that point I was more than ready to eat. Our server was really nice and gave us a bunch of recommendations. Everything sounded good, but I ended up going with the Pork Belly Yakisoba. This dish was packed with flavor. The noodles had that smoky, slightly charred taste, and they were coated in just enough sauce to make every bite rich. The sauce brought a nice balance of savory, a little sweetness, and plenty of umami that soaked into the noodles. The pork belly was easily the best part. It was incredibly tender and juicy, with just enough fat that it practically melted in your mouth. Every piece had those caramelized edges that added even more flavor. Then you get the crunch from the cabbage and bean sprouts, the freshness from the scallions, and the little nutty flavor from the sesame that tied everything together. Hahaha I'd definitely come back. This is one of those dishes that sticked with me long after I left.

The staff was friendly and helpful. We ordered the tuna starter. Sesame coated and seared beautifully. The sauce was light and citrusy. A great starter. We ordered some yakisoba with octopus. It was delicious, with crunchy fresh vegetables, along with the soft noodles and octopus. We got to watch them make it right in front of us! We then had the pork belly okinomiyaki. Again, nice crispy vegetables cooked into the pancake with the oorke belly. Covered in a delicious sauce. They also have a Hiroshima style, which combines the vegetables and protein with a pancake, on top of yakisoba noodles and finished with the fried egg. A bit of everything, and something to try another time. We also tried the mochi donuts for dessert. We were deciding between the matcha-citrus and coffee. We chose the matcha. They bring the freshly fired donut with the matcha-citrus sauce on top, with a donut hole perched in the middle. They also brought 3 donut holes with the coffee sauce for use to try. The donut was hot and delicious, the sauce not too sweet: we rarely order dessert, but this was worth it: I would definitely recommend Gaijin for a unique and fun experience.
