This is one of my favorite bars I've been to in Chicago so far. Whenever I have a friend visiting me from out of town I take them here! There is usually live music in one room and karaoke going on in the other. I love how there are Christmas lights hung up year round it always puts me in a good mood

Great bar! Loved the live band karaoke - we went on Wednesday, added our name to the list and then when our names never came up we were told we could pay the band $20 to boost our place in the queue and many did that so eventually we did as well but then were later told we needed to tip $40 to get our name up there...that was a bit too much for us. I would recommend bringing earplugs bc it gets very loud in there but it was definitely a good time. We ended up going back a second night and there was a band playing and then regular karaoke on either side of the bar. Very cool, but again very loud

I've been here a few times, it's great. Normally I'd say the drinks were delicious but unfortunately the server yesterday was a little stingy with alcohol, it basically was a glass of juice. But it's festive and usually hosts a live band. We like it.

A very fun bar. When you first walk in there are a ton of Christmas lights that line the bar/room. The bartender was upbeat and very friendly. There is a second level as well. We only had a few drinks here, not sure if they serve food or not. I would definitely go back next time I am in the area.

R-CIST AND RUDE EXPERIENCE!!! After the St. Patrick's Day parade, my co-ed group of five Black people wanted to go to Mom's Place. While waiting in line, I approached the doorman and asked if we could enter with our book bags. He said yes, as long as there was nothing inside them. So, my friends and I decided to finish the drinks we had leftover from a BYOB boat ride in our bags since we couldn't take them inside. As we stood in line drinking, a man in Mom's Place uniform(I assume the owner) walked up and immediately yelled, "Get the f--k out of my f--king line with that sh-t! I'm not getting a f--king fine for your b-lls--t." We were caught off guard and responded, "Huh?" He doubled down: "Take that sh-t across the street! I'm not getting a f--King fine." I calmly told him, "Hey, we didn't know there was a fine. We'll throw it away, but please don't curse at us, just talk to us with respect." We tossed the drinks in the trash can. His response? "I didn't curse you out." I replied, "Yes, you did. You walked up yelling at us to get the f--k out of your f--king line." His response: "Well, it is my F--KING LINE!" before storming off. At this point, we figured he was just rude, but since we have already been waiting, we still wanted to go in. That's when we noticed the group behind us, several white women, also had alcohol in their hands. Again we just assumed he didn't see them. The guy returned a few minutes later, walked up to them, and in a completely different tone, politely asked, "Hey guys, are you in line for Mom's Place?" They said yes. He then said, "I can get in trouble for y'all drinking in line. Can you go across the street with that?" I stood there and watched the whole thing. It was calm. It was respectful. It was the exact opposite of how he spoke to us. After he finished talking to them, I approached him and said, "Hey, you see how respectful that interaction was? We could've had that same courtesy." His response? "I told them to get the f--k out of my line, same as I told you!" I told him, "No, you didn't. I just watched you politely ask them to leave. Why the different approach for their group?" Instead of answering, he snapped, "How about you just find another f--king bar to go to!" and walked away. Immediately, the group of women behind us that he politely told to go across the street came up and said, "That was so f--ked up and r-cist." Another couple behind them also approached us, saying they were leaving because of what they had just witnessed. We had no issue throwing away our drinks, didn't give him any backlash for making the request of us. All we wanted was basic respect. Watching him aggressively curse out our Black group, then turn around and treat the all-white group directly behind us with kindness for the exact same thing was hurtful and r-cist Response to Owner: You're first interaction with us was yelling cursing us out. Which is why we were startled and didn't even know you were talking to us. So stop with this lie you approached us any kind of way except disrespectfully. We literally threw the TWO bottles away as soon as we figured it was the alcohol that was the problem. And we left a boat it was barely anything in them with no cups how else are we going to drink except from a bottle I've already addressed this. And then the second group you kindly spoke to didn't throw anything away or get out of line. They literally walked off AFTER I asked you why did their group get a polite interaction with you but ours didn't. They left WITH their bottles in hand and threw nothing away. We're actually from Louisiana/NOLA visiting Chicago. So it's not uncommon to us to see multiple people walking around with drinks. We had No Problem tossing our Liqour that is not the issue here and did throw it away as soon as we knew what you were talking about. So stop this lie that we did nothing after you yelled at us to throw it away Regardless I understand you deal with a lot and I'm sure it's annoying having people constantly put your business in jeopardy but you still cannot explain WHY DID THE GROUP OF WHITE WOMEN DESERVE GRACE LITERALLY MOMENTS AFTER OUR GROUP OF BLACK PEOPLE RECEIVED DISRESPECT. I don't care that you have people of color that you may tolerate you showed me and I hope anyone else who's reading this that you lack integrity and who you truly are.

Great vibe! Bartender was very attentive and fast at making drinks. Very chill spot with three different sections. We only got to check out the first two sections and did not check out downstairs. The first room is full of people just chatting having a beer or two. The second room is a lot livelier, that is the room that the karaoke takes place in. We checked out 2/3 and they were both great depending on the vibe you were going for that night. We loved all the punny decor along the walls.

Super fun karaoke, long queue! I stopped here with some coworkers after we found out Bub City didn't have karaoke on Friday. Once we set our hearts on karaoke, we were determined to find a spot! We got here around 10pm, so still relatively early, but the queue to sing was hours long. We ended up signing up anyway and had a great time listening to, singing with everyone else. All of the picks were fun, classic, and easy to jam along to. We had a couple rounds of beer/wine while we were here and when it was our turn to perform, we had a blast. I would 100% come back here for another karaoke night!

the most DISRESPECTFUL man I've ever met in my whole life is the bouncer here. As soon as my group hopped off our party bus he already came at us yelling for having drinks. Give us a minute geez??????? We're literally ON THE PUBLIC SIDEWALK. So after him yelling at everyone for a good chunk of time and not even letting us have a second to breathe, I start to get in line. I was holding my drink and my boyfriend's drink, NOT EVEN SIPPING THEM, just holding them to throw away. The crazy old man comes up to me and says "did you not f***ing hear me I said to throw that s*** away". Hold up??? You're talking to women like that??? So uncalled for. He's obviously so miserable that he's 50+ years old and a bouncer at a bar that he has to treat people so horribly. After looking at other reviews, I see there's a pattern in the way he treats possible clients. As someone in the service industry, I'm literally appalled at his behavior and not even sure why people would support this place. Attaching a picture of him that I found on here watch out yall Response: aw busy night at the bar? Clearly not if you're just gonna reply in 5 mins on a Saturday night. You're blissfully unaware of how terrible of a business you run there and how you treat people. Just because I didn't hear you/didn't see the trash bin you have to come at me swearing and yelling? Nah. The fact you respond to people in such a hostile way just shows the type of person you are. You're so miserable and THAT is what is embarrassingly laughable. Lame ass bar anyway wasn't gonna give you my money.

The atmosphere was nice but don't count on having your karaoke song played unless you're dropping a twenty. It was fun to sing along with other people but after waiting for 2hrs for a song to be played that someone requested for my birthday, we inquired about when it would be played and were told that others were giving money to have theirs played. The only drink I had was quite frankly terrible but if you stick to the canned stuff then you get what you expect. read more

Surprisingly REALLY good cheese curds with the chipotle aioli sauce (make sure you ask for the sauce--it's worth the try and gives it a little kick!) otherwise the default is ranch, which is still ok. Entertaining place! Karaoke after 9pm every day and it seems to get packed at night starting on Thursdays. If you happen to like green tea shots, the ones here are pre-made.. read more

Earlier this week, I gave this place a lukewarm warm review, which I'll delete. On Friday, I signed up for karaoke and was 12th on the list. Long story short, after not being called after 15 songs, I periodically asked my place on line and was repeatedly told lies, "You're next." After more than 30 songs, it was finally my turn. The karaoke host was deliberately giving me inaccurate reports, and it was quite frustrating. The owner responded to my review and explained that folks would tip the karaoke host to cut online. Apparently, this was known exclusively through Word Of Mouth. I did not know. So, I visited again on Tuesday when there was karaoke with a live band. It was run far better. You use your phone to get the list of available songs. At the bottom of that page, it discloses that if you Venmo the band $20, you can cut the line. Also, the band would regularly announce a new singer and say "we have another person to cut the line." Could not have been more forthright and honest. Respect. When I signed up with the live band, they were 57 singers listed. So, now that I knew the rules, I sent more than the $20 and was up next. I suppose they go with whoever tips the most. The "game" is a lot fairer when everyone knows the rules. I would definitely visit this place again. And, now, with this review, you know the written and unwritten rules so you can tell whether or not it is the place for you. And, I'd suggest to the owner that the bar let all karaoke singers who use recorded music know the rules too. To be honest, all that host had to say to me was "You're number 12 now, but if tips come in, that'll change." I'd give 5 stars if he hadn't repeatedly lied to my face, repeatedly saying, "You're next" and another 5 songs would go without me being called. I just can't stand liars. read more

Fun place with 3 separate bars/areas. Friendly bartenders serving stiff drinks, lively karaoke in one bar, live music & dancing in another, and xmas decor all year. It got pretty packed after 9pm on Saturday. Awesome, happy vibe, with a lot of young people, but a few older people as well. read more

If you're a girl and want to be disrespected please go here!! Went to this place and was told by this bouncer that "girls were asking for equality and that if I didn't want to pay cover my girlfriend wasn't worth it anyway". This guy and bar doesn't care about women's rights so avoid at all cost. So many other bars in the area that care about customers read more

We came from out of town this weekend and had an awesome experience here! It was a Sunday night so not super busy but the karaoke is 7days/week. Our family was one of the only groups on the karaoke side of the bar for a bit, and our bartender JR was absolutely amazing. He sang some songs himself (we were impressed!) and made sure our every need was met while we were there. We had planned on ending the night at another bar after stopping for a drink here and decided to stay because it was such a great time. He was so attentive and friendly with us, it was an experience we'll never forget. Drinks were delicious and the service was even better. Thank you JR and Mom's Place for showing us a great time! We'll be back here 100% the next time we visit!! read more

Chill Vibes & Good Times! I've only been here a few times (everything from happy hr to late night drinks and Karaoke) but I love this bar and will keep coming! It's very chill/down to earth (has Cheer's Vibes), not your typical night-clubby bar (which depending on what you're looking for is either a huge pro or huge con). I even go solo sometimes for drinks after work and have almost always had enjoyable convos with fellow patrons and have witnessed many bartenders giving out-of-towers good tips on places to go and enjoy! Good for: Relaxing after work Being social/meeting new people Girls night (start or end here, or spend the whole evening doing Karaoke!) Ps. yes, drinks are pricey, but not really anymore so than anywhere else in Chicago (yes, 12-18-ish is a normal price range for most cocktails, so just deal with it or don't go out). Kitchen can be "slow" but they're up front about that and it's a small kitchen and everyone's working hard so just relax and put in a food order early, it's not that hard! This is not a fast food place so if you need to be in and out for dinner in 40min, this might not be your best bet...but the point of the bar (IMO) is to be able to take it slow and enjoy drinking, making new buddies, and munching on food! read more

Caters to a certain type of clientele and goes out of their way to deter everyone else. This is not a welcoming place, and since there are several of its kind in the area I won't be back. Drinks are meh Glasses weren't clean Music selection shouldn't be limited in a karaoke bar but whatever. Parking is limited, but you don't need to drive if you drink! Be safe! idk, maybe don't label yourself a dive bar if you're not allowed to wear sweat pants. i got turned away for wearing a 2 piece set (tank top and sweats), then the weirdo stank bouncer called me ignorant for finding the policy sus lmao. never been to a dive bar with a dress code like that. by definition that doesn't even sound right. oh well! 1 star for your sucky sensitive loser bouncer. read more

This was our first bar spot on our vacation in Chicago. It was close to our hotel and I saw some pretty cool Christmas decorations from outside so we decided to stop by later that night. It was our first time seeing karaoke with a live band. You don't see that in Miami really. It was such a fun vibe. The band was great and the karaoke singers were entertaining to say the least. It was a cozy spot to have drinks, hear some music, and watch drunk women with zero rhythm dance along. It was hilarious. I definitely recommend this spot. Fun times! read more

Ewe. Lol this bar for one has filtered ALLLLLL of the black music. Like you can't even play Beyonce. Not ok in the slightest. Don't expect to hear anything that you can vibe with since it's "filtered". That in itself left a bad taste in my mouth. They've filtered Rihanna, Jlo, Beyoncé, Nicki Minaj, Megan, just everything a person of color could vibe with. Didn't know we were still doing that in 2023. The drinks were pretty light and the food was basic af. Spent 50 dollars on 3 drinks and food. Not a fan and if you like culture I'd say relax on this place in general. read more

I went to this place too many times on a recent trip. The upstairs is karaoke starting at 9pm, on the middle floor is a live band and downstairs was a pool table and a quieter vibe. So basically if you are looking for something to do, you could come here. It was pretty crowded on both a Wednesday and a Thursday. Pretty decent selection of karaoke songs IMO and I am a frequent karaoke goer. read more

Don't recommend unless you want to pay for a song after waiting multiple hours. Sticky floors, drinks were fine. Song list was limited and mainly consisted of white ppl music (no offense meant by that, diversity would be nice but if not whatever) and the set up was completely haphazard. I would skip unless you want to waste your time or spend $20 to sing a song. I do a lot of karaoke, all over the world in fact, this is the only place I've ever been that I did not get to sing after waiting for multiple hours. KARAOKE with the band ends at 1230 and there is a $10 drink minimum, the drinks are $9 both of which is not posted anywhere. Don't waste your time or money here. I was only in Chicago for 2 nights and wasted an entire night here, really disappointing. If you are going to bother visiting this place be ready to just pay to sing upfront otherwise you will not get to sing. read more

Don't waste your time here and go to Phil's Sports Bar on Harlem. Only come if you enjoy warm watery old beer in a musty pigpen. If you like dealing with crappy bouncers that act like your money ain't green then this is the place for you. read more

Let's see... Mom's Place has section for "Live" music, another Karaoke section and if you want something bit more quiet... a Speakeasy like setting downstairs. Quite literally something for everyone. And don't forget about the food... the Smash burger is outstanding. Ditto for the chicken strips and the Mac-n-cheese. If you go there and leave without having a great experience... that's on you! read more

We were there around 7 pm with family, having a nice night with few people in the bar where out of no where one of the bouncers - Keith Stables - started to pick a fight with one of the men in our group. We tried to calm down the situation but instead, the other two employees were in our face. Keith proceeded to PUSH one of the women down the stairs. At each point we tried to deescalate, Keith was in our face. He called me a bitch multiple times and was just shy of hitting me. This was completely uncalled for, unjustified, and out of no where. All staff were escalating the situation more and more. It was very crazy at 7 pm with staff that made the entire situation horrific. The way they treated women was scary and terrible. Then when I spoke with the GM, he was dismissive and victim shaming. This was extremely disgusting and I would never go here again. read more

Would give 0 stars if I could. Come here if you and all your friends want their stuff stolen while you're singing karaoke. Staff was unhelpful .... almost as if this happens all the time. Super fun spot for drinks and karaoke. The decor is really cute with Christmas lights all over the main bar. There's a downstairs section with board games and entertainment. At the main bar they had a live band playing, and in the back they have karaoke. They have a huge selection of songs (my friends and I literally sang the theme song of The Last Unicorn from like 1982 and no one knew it but that's their loss). This place is lit and full of lights on their ceiling. They have lots of tables, a huge bar for the cheaply priced drinks downtown and great happy hour menu. They have an area for a band and a good selection on the juke box. The bathroom is pretty big towards the back of the bar. Great place to hangout after work with friends and catch up. read more

We had two frosty-cold craft beers: a Half Acre Daisy Cutter and a Deschutes Patagonia. The Daisy Cutter was dark orange, dry and hoppy, a "new" pale ale that is now a classic. They were ABSOLUTELY no where to being on a top 10 list of ribs so not sure where or who gave them the title of (best) but it definitely falls in the category of false advertisement. They were pretty tough and flavor was average at best. The chicken was moist and pretty good as were all the sides. The best part for me was the apple pie. Definitely changed my mood after the disappointment of the ribs. I'm not condemning this place but I can't recommend it either based on the misleading rib statement so proceed with caution!

The server then FINALLY got more involved with our dinner and was predictably perky and present at the end, something that always irks me when they have been otherwise absent for the meal. The ONLY reason they are getting 3 stars instead of less for this visit was the flavor of the food and the response of the manager in dealing with the lack of service (and the gritty salad). I would give the initial server a zero if I could.

Didn't love the churros from Xurro, but I'm a pastry chef and make churros quite often. Maybe I just prefer my own. I ordered the churro s'more and wouldn't order again. It was all way too dry. Not enough chocolate either. There were many kinds of venders. If tamales aren't your thing, you aren't out of luck. With tacos, tortas, burritos, quesadillas etc.. sold up and down the streets, there's something for everybody. My only regret was not ordering the street corn that everyone seemed to me walking around eating. As much of a pain it was to be raining, it was the perfect time to go. The crowds were very minimal. It was still a lively bunch though. Many people dancing in the streets as the music blasted in the air. I very much enjoyed my evening and will definitely return next year. Parking is a bit of a beast. Prepare to have to park a bit far and walk.

Came to my attention that all reviews about this incident coincidentally became really hard to find, so here it is again! Forgive me for the new account, Ron. I don't have access to the email for my old one. Hope that's okay with you. I was also witness to a handful of nascar staff individually going up to the guy with the bag last night to be rude, unprovoked. His group of pals were minding their business and 100% not inconveniencing that crew or anyone else around them. The nascar staff was obnoxious to multiple people over the course of the night though. I can't say I saw the bartender say anything- I think I'd left at that point- but I can tell you she was way more focused on fawning for the nascar experience than anyone else she was serving and I don't believe she was worried about the experience they were creating for others. At the very least, if they can't get more professional staff, I think a bar that claims to be all inclusive (with black, brown, red, green, gay, and purple staff) should take these things a little more seriously and kick out the ones antagonizing next time instead of the ones pointing out that crap. Ron, don't worry about writing one of your weird manipulative straw man replies. Clearly your staff are earth angels who can do no wrong to you so you can save your defense tactics. (Ron responds anyway: I'm more than happy to discuss what happened. I reviewed the tape. Stop by anytime and I'm happy to talk about it. The treatment my friend received here was absolutely unacceptable and I am disgusted. After a drink at the bar, my friends and I went off to the bathrooms. My friend was aggressively handled by a staff member and ripped out of the men's bathroom. Then that staff member told him, "nuh-uh, make up your mind". Absolutely disgusting and unacceptable way to treat ANYONE in any situation. And you know if he had gone into the women's restroom this pathetic "security" guy would have been equally aggressive with him. This sad evil little man completely crossed the line in physically laying hands on my friend who was just trying to use the bathroom at an establishment we paid to be at. What a disgusting way to interact with customers who are doing absolutely nothing wrong. Bigoted, hateful, and homophobic establishment. You should be ashamed of how your staff treated him. Just absolutely shameful behavior. Highly recommend skipping this place if you have any morals at all. There's plenty of other karaoke bars that won't allow their staff to commit discriminatory, aggressive acts against you and your party. You would think "security" would be more concerned with the safety of the patrons, instead of getting physical with innocent people. This is an unsafe environment. read more

Id like to literally update this review a year later. First and foremost Ron, you'd know who I was if you saw me in person Im a beautiful petite blonde. Your first comment was talking about my age which is irrelevant to be honest. Whether Im 20s 30s 40s 50s so on it shouldn't matter. I was not " sleeping" or "snoaring". I was moderating a friends online sale auction and was grunting about how low prices were going. Get the facts clear here Ron. Im actually glad I have been busy with life so just saw Ron's response today. Im 5'1. Everyone to me looks 6'2-6'7. How is a petite woman of my stature suppose to know the difference? Petty. Do not waste your time to come in here. I had to make a yelp account just to speak my peace. I was visiting this place because my family was in town for the NASCAR race. The drinks were alright, at least. Bathrooms were diabolical. Please clean out your vents of the dust in there for them to actually work so the stench of urine doesn't waft out every time the door opens. The staff was the absolute rudest I've come across. Calling people slurs under their breath doesn't mean others can't hear it. Mom's Place is ironic since it's definitely not Mom approved. But I guess none of this seems to bother Ron that much since he only finds it worth it to comment back on his negative reviews to be petty back and never responds to positive reviews from his customers. I specifically downloaded this app to make sure it's known this place has awful bouncers. We were let into the bar early in the night for $5 and then 30 minutes later we went outside to meet some friends and go back in. We were met with the bouncers claiming a $10 fee even though we had just stepped outside. They claimed we didn't have a stamp on our hands. We reluctantly agreed and paid the cover again, this time asking for a stamp as we walked in. Where the big tough bouncer decided to stamp my girlfriends forehead aggressively after she asked for a stamp and reached out her hand. Homophobic establishment. I was ordering a drink for my friend and I, when a man came up next to me and said "your friend is a f**g*t" completely unsolicited. I asked him if he just asked called him a f*g, and he admitted to it. This resulted in an argument, and the bouncer, taking the homophobic man's side, threatened to kick ME out. I asked the bouncer if he knew what the f slur was, and he said no. Not only is the staff homophobic, but they're also uneducated. This is a discriminatory, uneducated establishment. Mom's Place is a welcoming neighborhood bar in Chicago with a great community vibe. I was in town for a Blackhawks/Kings game and stayed at the short-term rental next door, making it an incredibly convenient spot. Ron is incompetent and doesn't care to listen to customer concerns. Please look at other reviews that have been posted and look at how he responds. He thinks he could never do anything wrong. This is the worst experience I have ever had with any bar/restaurant. Ron called me and my friends underage children, when we are all 23 years old with real state issued IDs. He is disrespectful to every customer that comes to his bar and Ron should NEVER be allowed to be a business owner ever again if this is how he chooses to treat the people that are trying to support his business. Please stay away from this bar and don't support a business that chooses to treat their customers like this. read more

Let's talk about a special place, folks. Not only Mom's Place, but the features inside. From the people, to the decor, to the seating that is accessible to all body types. The aroma of the bathrooms brought me to an emotional place. My kindergarten room of the late Mrs. Lamb. I was warned by the feeling that Mom and Mrs. Lamb would be friends. As I sipped my Miller Lite and thought about the times with Mrs. Lamb, Andrea the bartender continued to be attentive to my experience. Moms place is a blast! I've come here before and loved it. But, unfortunately last night it wasn't so much fun. It was a Sunday night and the bar wasn't that busy. We were seriously just hitting the bar table to the beat of the music and the bartender freaked out and told us we couldn't get anymore drinks for the night. I get what we were doing wasn't right but, he could have ask politely since, we were paying customers. Disappointed in the service at mom place. Dan the DJ was rude and only cares about himself, not customers. We came in on a bachelorette party and he refused to let the bride sing her favorite song with her bridesmaids because he wanted to sing it himself. Managing P. of Mom's Place: I would normally understand this, but then why did HE get up there and sing that song the 5th time RIGHT AFTER WE REQUESTED IT? Don't try to stick up for this jerk. A successful manager would apologize on his behalf and do something about it. read more

Stumbled across this place after leaving a nearby bar and have to say that I'm pretty sure I found a great little treasure in downtown Chicago. Great selection of draft beers and some awesome music happening. They had a guy and girl in their piano bar and a band downstairs playing a lot of Grateful Dead tunes. Bartenders were so cool and friendly. Get the tacos. Delish! read more

The owner stands out front and is the rudest person with such poor customer service. I brought a group of 20 people there and he and his team treated me and my entire group awfully. Avoid this place at all costs! P.S. If you want to see the fragile masculinity of this guy look at all his responses to reviews lol. read more
