If you can get me to relax enough to make it sound like I need a CPAP or if my "pain" goes away, you did a fantabulous job! T. Smith my tech, thank you I will return! My total with tip was just under $200. It was $75 for a 30 min foot massage and $75 for a reflexology foot massage. Well worth it all.

This time, I made the appointment months in advance, confirmed at three weeks in advance, and they had no record of the appointment when I arrived. In fact, they insisted that I had never been there, and that they had no record of me. When I gave them the specific day and date of my last appointment, they were able to figure out that they had my wife's name instead of mine. (hence why they billed her insurance instead of mine last time). In the end, I drove an hour for an appointment I had confirmed three weeks in advance, and was refused service. No medical care is worth this amount of headache and administrative ineptitude, when there are other very good dermatologists in the DMV.

Wax also ended up on my cheek and in my hairline, which I have never experienced during an eyebrow appointment in 15 years of having waxing done. Even more concerning, she repeatedly tried to remove the wax from my face, approximately 4-6 times, and still could not get it off. I have never had to leave an appointment halfway done with wax still stuck to my face. I was visibly upset, yet the technician did not apologize or take responsibility. The owner then walked out of the business rather than addressing what had happened or attempting to resolve the situation. This was not a minor mistake or a matter of personal preference. It was careless service, poor technique, and completely unacceptable customer treatment. It would be wise not to trust this business with any waxing service.

As a harried traveller, I never quite find the time for self-care, especially for my skin. A once-a-year facial ~might~ be pulled off as a bit of a treat. I'm well pleased that on this trip to DC, a friend recommended me to Mon Rituel: a French-country-meets-Japan holistic spa tucked away in Arlington. Owner esthetician Kiki took such good care of me in her lovely new space, and I found myself in for more than a basic facial which started with a warm foot bath whilst sipping tea, a décolletage/neck/head/arm massage, and a pampering foot treatment to boot. The caring, calm vibes were really a balm for the (politically!) ragged. Kiki's soothing way of working with touch during the facial found me peacefully asleep mid-treatment. I was pleasantly surprised there was nary a product push (really find those stressful!). Instead, Kiki gave me practical tips on what kinds of products - not brands - to look for (oil-based cleanser for my dehydrated skin, spot-use of the clay mask I already own, and being better about SPF-ing...) no matter which country I find myself in. I really appreciated how this espoused her ethos of holistic care. By far the most tranquil and skin-happy facials I've experienced. Can't wait to try out her other bespoke skin treatments...and hope to be back sooner than a year from now! read more
