Called into this restaurant because of the complete CELIAC menu needed for a guest. The extensive menu was just wonderful but it only begins there. They opened early to accommodate me and had the order prepared so it was 100% perfect! The owners, Kathleen and Naill were outstanding, friendly, professional and generally awesome. We ordered 7 meals and each needed some special tweak... NO PROBLEM. From salads, to salmon dinner and burgers and wings, each item was great. The flavor and selection were wonderful. Came here for dinner tonight ( Sunday). There was ample and free parking, located by the LIRR. It was quiet, but there were several tables of other customers. It was a very cozy and inviting place, and by cozy I am not referring to size. We were served a basket of raisin bread as well as Irish soda bread which were good. I ordered the Tuscan chicken salad: a large chicken breast covered in delicious melted mozzarella, tomatoes, onions and balsamic, and served over ton of arugula. It was delicious and I had plenty to take home. My husband had the chicken pot pie which he found to be excellent: a large portion as well, with a light and airy crust and filled with a tasty sauce, vegetables and chicken. No leftovers there! This is what an Irish Pub is all about! Great long wooden bar with a good beer selection and a perfect pint of Guiness. Very cool old school vibe. Bartenders are friendly and keep your glass filled! This is the second time I've eaten at Monaghan's and I'm sure there will be a third. They have one of the better gluten free menus so there most probably something everyone can eat. I had the burger which was cooked to perfection and I asked for crispy fries and was not disappointed. There are plenty of TV's so if you're going during a game you should be able to watch. Went last night with a couple of friends- woman behind the bar greeted us promptly . As I had mentioned in another review , the bartenders need a little best attitude. Not that she was nasty or anything just no personality. Food as usual was good - my drink was a vodka with cranberry, which was more like ice vodka and cranberry- so watered down it was ridiculous. I usually stop here for drinks while awaiting reservations at dirty taco down the block but there have been a few times where the waiting was too long that I ended up eating here & I was not at all disappointed! Plenty of screens to watch the games at the bar area, welcoming atmosphere, and very good selection of apps and entrees on the menu. They know how to pour Guinness properly here. I highly recommend the Santa Fe Salad with medium rare sliced steak added. Fantastic. Service is excellent and the staff behind the bar works very hard to keep up with everyone seated at the main bar and walk ups at the far end. Hello, I've now been to Monaghan's for the past 3 weekends trying to find other spots in RVC to hang out. Everything is fine except this one very nasty bartender who is short with brown hair. I don't think I'm ever coming back and will advise everyone I know to do the same this, just goes to show how rude this bartender was, I don't normally no this and leave poor reviews but this is my retribution for how I was treated. read more

Best Sheppard pie I ever had, great service and they have a really good celiac dedicated menu for my wife which is highly unusual for a pub. After a bad day of work, sometimes you just want, no, NEED, gluttonous bar food. I NEEDED wings and fries, but I didn't want them to be bad. My boyfriend and I decided to stop by Monaghan's since it is so close to the train station. Inside you will see an average Irish pub with basic Irish fare. My boyfriend and I split: Wings (not the best wings I've had, but they were good) Ribs (a little tough, but the honey/soy sauce it was covered with was delicious) Rueben Sandwich (a little greasy but otherwise tasty) It was very empty the whole time we were there, which was kind of nice. The waitress was very friendly. So far my favorite spot for bar food in the area. Not crowded with a million people getting crappy 10 cent wings at certain other bars (who shall remain nameless). read more

I can't believe I have never been here before. What a great place. The staff is friendly and attentive, and the food was really good. My daughter was craving "fish & chips" something she has never had before, so I searched yelp for the best fish & chips in the area. Well, my daughter wasn't crazy about it...but it went over very well with the rest of us. Burger was really good as well as the new York rueben. My son is very impatient and it was great that they have a little "play room" with toys to keep kids occupied while waiting. Will definitely be back! read more

Not only did the party next to us get their seat taken but we got moved down to the server station at the bar thanks to the bullying that was accepted and praised by the house staff. Not to worry if you want to sit down at a table and get subpar service for uninterested waitresses that expect 20% plus tip. No Irish selections except for $21 two oz of cod in the fish and chips and a $25 salad if you want to add $8 of old chicken to a store bought goat cheese salad. They literally added lettuce to candied walnuts with goat cheese from King kullen and then charged me an additional $8 for rot gut chicken. read more

Irish pub in R.V.C. This place has a great bar when you first walk in - nice and long along the right side wall. The bartenders are, for the most part, fun and know what they are doing. The restaurant part serves up some decent food - the menu is pretty extensive and you can find something to satisfy everyone. Parking can be a bit tight out front on the street but there is a commuter lot a block over that can be used at night. read more

we started coming here for their separate gluten free menu and enjoyed the homey, festive decor. during the COVID-19 pandemic, we came back and felt very comfortable with the precautions they took. there were plenty of outdoor tables with umbrellas (to shelter us from light rain) spaced apart and we received wet naps with our meal. all the servers were friendly behind their face masks and someone who looked like the owner was helping the staff to keep the outdoor seating dry and our drinks filled and bellies full. the gluten free paper menu was not available, but our server was able to tell us what was celiac safe to order. great way to spend our afternoon into the evening. read more

Five stars for the amazing menu, with so many choices and different foods that all are delicious. We ordered a few appetizers of honey ribs, muscles, potato croquettes and wings ( bbq and garlic parm). Each dish was generous in portion and perfectly made. The potato croquettes were unique and were in a delicious savory sauce. The muscles were in a broth that was outstanding. Shepard's pie and chicken pot pie are two of the highlight dishes of Monaghans and should not be missed. There are many gluten free options which enhance their menu for those who are gluten free. The restaurant was comfortable and busy, and the service was great. Owner Niall personally checked in on tables to make sure everyone was having a good time. This gem in Rockville Centre's restaurant and bar scene is perfectly located near the train with plenty of parking adjacent to the restaurant. We had my daughter's Communion dinner there. Kathleen was so accommodating and really a pleasure to work with. When we were discussing buffet and beverage options she gave her honest opinion. Luckily for this review I have experienced BOTH the bar and restaurant portion of Monaghan's. I stopped in for supper before a night of dancing and gallivanting the Saturday after St. Patrick's Day, which is referred to as IRISH FEST in RVC. Apparently, the drinking while dressed in green carries over another weekend, and I heard from a bar patron that this weekend is celebrated almost MORE than the holiday itself! All that to say, Monaghan's on this visit was packed with men in green striped rugby shirts or tweed caps and wool sweaters, and women with shamrock necklaces or green fingernail polish (that one was me...) My friend and I were greeted by the floor manager who took us right away to a table, and took our drink orders. Everyone else was drinking at the bar, so seating wasn't an issue. The dining area is spacious and completely separate from the bar area and the tables can sit up to 8 I believe, so it's great for big groups. On the website, you can check out their menu which includes gluten-free entree's, a Senior menu that includes a soup and dessert, and a pretty impressive vegetarian fare menu. I ordered a bottle of Magner's and fish and chips, which came with a side of steamed green beans. The food was a great portion and was pretty good. My friend ordered Shepherd's Pie and she enjoyed it enough to roll her eyes back and shake her head in disbelief to confirm so. Monaghan's has two entrances - one off the street, and another from the back parking lot leading from the RVC train station. So parking won't be an issue. The crowd - no under-age shenanigans, sloppy public drunkenness, body shots, or strobe lights. Not that sort of place. This is a casual, warm, friendly, spot that's clean, where people in their 20's and 50's can mingle without an issue, isn't over-crowded or loud, and has the most cool and down to earth owner. I would recommend this spot to catch a few beers and the game (they have 3 or 4 flat screen tv's overhead), catch up with a couple friends after work, or stop in for a drink after having dinner in the area. We had our annual office holiday party here on onw weeks notice, and they did a great job! We had 12 people, ordered from the regular menu, and everything that came was hot, and done correctly. Our server Lee was incredible, and the entire staff was great! It would be five stars but the shrimp and scallops on my salad were overcooked and the steak special was on the tough side.
