I have lived at Monarch Landing (ML) for almost 8 years. I love Monarch Landing. I moved here for safety and security reasons, as well as for social interaction. I have not been disappointed. All security at ML are EMT trained by Edward Hospital. I can belong to as many social groups, as I want. The library at ML is tremendous and is used by many residents. The majority of activities are resident driven. The staff at ML are caring and compassionate. They have the residents best interests at "heart", while they maintain a stable financial environment. read more

Staff can be neglectful and lack of empathy towards residents. F&B department is a mess especially the Director.

Monarch Landing's selling point, as suggested in the name, is that once you move into the community, there'll never be a reason for you to have to move out. This is unfortunately absolutely not true. My mother thoughtfully chose Monarch Landing on this false premise but, after 11 years of investing in the community, she was forced to leave as ML was unable to accommodate her and her unforeseen diagnosis of Alzheimer's. Since the memory care on-site had a waiting list of 22+ residents, my sister was forced to take a leave of absence from her job to care for my mother, while she was still living in her apartment at ML, and while we sought alternative care for her. After the on-site doctor was made aware of her diagnosis and brought the on-site social worker into the appointment, no efforts from any staff were made to check in on my mother or consult with her family to coordinate appropriate care for her moving forward. While it was clear to us and her circle of friends at ML that she was declining, no staff ever contacted us with any concerns. We were forced to move her out of her community, not the first choice for someone with Alzheimer's, and into memory care in a completely new community. Even though Monarch Landing could not accommodate my mother, and in turn could not keep her safe, they still charged her a penalty of 3 months rent to leave the community. This for-profit company squeezed every penny they could out of a vulnerable, elderly woman who was a well loved and active member of their community for 11 years. Upon her departure they held onto her money, and continued to earn interest on it, until (and a few months after) a new buyer put down a deposit. The value of her apartment had increased considerably since she moved in during the recession so they were making a lot more money by her leaving and still they refused to waive the penalty fee. I asked Executive Director Mark Trnka to explain how they could justify doing so, and to specifically state what alternatives of care they would have made available to her while she waited a year or more to get into the on-site memory care. I've been waiting for a response since 1/28/24 even after a second email on 2/15/24. Two other ML staff were also copied on my emails and none have responded. My advice to anyone currently living in the community, who is also forced to leave for unseen circumstances, is to have all communications with ML be by email. The business office will always encourage verbal conversations to avoid documentation. Our due diligence saved us $9,091.15 after the business office tried not once, not twice, but three times to charge us to replace my mother's carpet and paint her apartment when she was on the plan to have it all paid for by ML that same year. They denied having told us that she was already due to receive that service, as included in the contract she signed upon entry into the community, until we could prove the documentation. Again, this is a for-profit business that sees residents not as valued community members but as dollar signs. They made an incredibly painful set of circumstances that much harder with zero concern or empathy for our family and a lot of concern for their profit. And If any current residents read this and see Executive Director Mark Trnka budge to the front of the line at your cafe as we did, ahead of a long line of residents patiently waiting their turn (several using walkers,) call him out! read more

My husband and I have lived at Monarch Landing for almost 8 years and we love it here. The staff is wonderful and the residents are great. There is a great variety of activities, exercise opportunities and entertainment. The food is excellent. During Covid the staff could not have done a better job of taking care of us all. We highly recommend considering Monarch Landing as soon as you start thinking of senior living! read more

Monarch Landing - A recent visit to the West Coast. - Retirement Homes Near Me - Naperville, Illinois

After years of being a landlord in his old building on the southwest side, Dad decided that a little extra security and comfort was what he had worked all those years for and so he moved to Monarch Landing. I visited him here for the first time last week, almost a full year after he moved in. It took a bit of getting used to the idea that Dad was ready for a retirement community but I am SO HAPPY he chose Monarch Landing. This place is really well maintained and staffed. It is like a fine resort. Dad's new apartment (he says he has a "lease for life") is well constructed, built in 2005. There are the additional security measures like the pull chains in the bathrooms and various helps like a phone call when inclement weather is expected so that you might move your car to the garage. What I liked best were the grounds- very lovely landscaping- and the amenities- a great gym and pool. The dining rooms look impressive and as we walked around during the dinner hour the residents were all so happy and enjoying themselves. The food smelled really good too, although I did not dine in the hall. The residents here were beyond friendly and I'm so glad Dad seems to be fitting in with the other kids just fine. He really likes it here and the staff all know him and treat him well which means the world to me. If your family member is considering Monarch Landing, I think they will make a fine choice. read more

I'm a delivery driver, instruction tells me to deliver the package to front desk, while this blonde curly hair lady with glasses just would not accept the package. She made me look for the recipient myself and I asked around no one seems to know this recipient and she still wouldn't accept the package. Until there's a supervisor of some sort stepped in and accept the package. I spent 10 minute on this one stop following the instructions however this lady made it difficult for us delivery drivers. 1 star is for the supervisor who stepped in. read more

I have lived here for six months and it is wonderful. I have a beautiful apartment, great meals, lots of activities, a wonderful pool and exercise facilities, lovely grounds, medical care right on the premises. There is a bank, a small convenience store and the staff is very pleasant. It is expensive but you get what you pay for. read more

The sales team at Monarch were amazing. They were truly educating the family and my parents about the community. After several visits and many questions answered, my parents chose to relocate and move into Monarch Landing. We are so blessed that they are happy with their new home, Monarch helped to support the sale of their single family home, as well as helped move my parents into their new space. The Move team, Mary was a fabulous resource and I highly recommend utilizing the many resources that Monarch has for moving. In addition, my parents are very social people and love to enjoy dining with new, and old friends, who were already moved into ML. They enjoy the activities on site, music, movies, swimming, exercise class, etc. HIGHLY recommend Monarch Landing for any aging parents! 6+ stars! read more

We have lived at Monarch for seven years and enjoy it very much. We find the staff and residents especially friendly and supportive. We appreciate the excellent meals and dining facilities. We are offered more activities than we can take advantage of. The pool, hot tub, fitness center and indoor garage are added benefits. If I could give this a Negative star I would! They promise you the world. Sure it is very nice and clean and have a lot of activities for seniors. But my in-law were promised they would NEVER be kicked out! That was a lie. Do your research. They paid I believe $260,000 for their apartment plus they had to pay $3500/month. My FIL passed away in 2014. My MIL stayed living there. Last yr she started suffering from dementia. Monarch landing had her admitted to 2 different psychiatric hospitals. They finally said she can not return to Monarch unless she had a full time cna. That would cost my mil $1700/week!!! My mil volunteered in their memory care for years. They said she would not be fit to move in to their memory care because it would confuse her. She had NO choice but to leave. Of course after you leave you still have to pay that $3500/month for 3 months!!! They are also trying to charge her $10,000 in repairs! We moved her in with us in May, it is Feb and have yet to see her $260,000! Of course Monarch is still making interest off of her money! Of course she can't get the money until her Unit is sold then we have to wait for the grace period! It is a joke! Please be careful when choosing the right place. read more

After living at Monarch Landing for 18 months I can honestly say the decision to move here was one of the best decisions I have ever made. The management team and their staff have a primary objective of spoiling the residents, and they exceed their goal, to the point you will wish you had moved here sooner. If I need a ceiling light bulb changed, a drain cleared, an appliance fixed, etc., etc. I call the concierge (one call does it all) and she contacts the proper person to fix the problem - which is completed in most cases the same day or the next day - and no bill to pay. While the service is great, the food is better. All our kids say it is as good as any five-star restaurant. We enjoy the opportunity to select from dozens of clubs/organizations and all the special events that perform frequently. Having our doctor on site is very reassuring. Everything is resident-oriented. We don't have to leave Monarch Landing to go to a hair salon, bank, numerous health-related activities, library, cleaners, movies, woodworking shop, numerous religious groups and meetings, computer/TV support, and much more. And inside parking is a real bonus! Bottom line - I cant recommend Monarch Landing high enough. It is an A+ on facility, an A+ on food, an A+ on service, and an A+ on my fellow residents. When you move here you will have a group of "best friends" within days. With about 460 residents there is always the opportunity to meet a new friend. read more
