We tried this place for the first time today. Everything we ordered was delicious. Pizza, calzone and salad were so fresh and flavorful. Wings were a bit spicy for my gang, but they are wimpy in general. Would try a less spicy one next time as the wings were perfectly made. They also have an impressive drink selection in store that we will try next time-I have to say I've not seen such a wide range of brands and flavors. I went here for the first time today and ordered a chicken, mushroom, and spinach calzone, which also comes with mozzarella and ricotta cheese. Ricotta is one of my favorite cheeses, and they stuffed the calzone with it I'm surprised at how big it was! I ordered a small, and was only able to eat 1/3 of it. Pizza was good and fresh, boneless chicken was tasty. They used iceberg lettuce in the Greek salad...the white part of the lettuce at that...and it was bitter tasting. One more thing that I would like to see changed is their use of Styrofoam and plastic bags. I would love to see that practice updated to something more earth friendly. read more

Let's start out by saying pizza is not my first choice so when I get pizza I want it to be amazing, so you know I'm not going to little ceasars or something like that. So I tried Monavala Pizza, a family owned pizzeria With the owners taking part in the operation running the front and the pizza ovens. I always like to see the owner taking part in the hands on operations of any business, you know that there's pride in the product. I ordered a medium white pizza with adding grilled artichokes, small Hawaiian pizza, and a medium Greek salad. White pizza was great I did like the artichokes on their I would recommend if you are a fan of artichokes to double up the order which would only be $3 instead of a $1.50. A medium is 8 slices. The White pizza was pretty greasy you can see that in the picture but not overbearingly. The Hawaiian pizza I felt was a tad bit under cooked I asked to have the Canadian bacon as crispy as possible and I felt the bread and the bacon were under cooked. Still very tasty and better than pizza hut. For my personal taste I wish the dough was a little thinner and a little crispier I like some crunch to the bread instead of soft dough. The flavors here are on point though. Greek salad was great just make sure you get lots of dressing from them, it's a thick vinaigrette with feta chunks mixed in so you dont get a lot of dressing in each cup for take out. Over all I'd go back if I was in the El Cajon area. read more

Was doing laundry right next door, I saw they sold a slice of pizza for $2.99, I went in and was asked what I would like to order. I said a pepperoni slice of pizza, he asked "a slice?" I responded, yes. I waited to have my order taken, they never said anything. I wait for 10 minutes another customer came in and they took his order instead of mine. I used the slice app to order two pizzas and some boneless wings. The initial estimated delivery was between 1838 - 1853 for delivery. At 1853 I called and was informed that the order was on its way. At 1915, I called back and once again. Was told that the pizza was on its way. I then reached out to Slice about it because I was about to reach the two hour point from my initial order. They contacted the store and were told that the driver was 5 minutes away. 10 minutes later, at 1930 the pizza arrived. I inquired of the driver how it took over 35 minutes to get the pizza to me and he replied he just picked the pizza up, which means I was lied to by two different people from this store. The unfortunate part is the pizza is really good but once you lose your integrity and start lying to customers you lose my business. read more

I was housesitting for my niece in El Cajon and I wanted a pizza and some wings to have while I was watching the Padres game so I checked on yelp for local pizzerias and found Monavala pizza with some pretty good reviews so I ordered a medium pepperoni and mushroom pizza and 10 wings. New York pizza was fantastic and if you like true NY buffalo wings you'll love these. Ordered over the phone and service was fantastic was told it would be 30-40min for delivery and it was right on time! Hot and delicious. By far Best pizza in East County! If you are looking for good old fashion pizza without the hefty price, this place it is. I'm a bit late writing this review, however I really enjoyed Monavala's pizza. Didn't get the name of the guy who took my first order and helped me apply the 10% off Yelp coupon, but he was extremely pleasant and helpful. For our first time we ordered the XL Philly Cheese Steak pizza and a medium Greek salad which both tasted pretty good. My only complaint about the pizza was that something on the pizza (not sure which ingredient) tasted like it was frozen before cooked. I can't really explain it, but it's like a taste from refrigeration. I always know that taste when I taste it, which may sound weird to some who've never experienced it before, but it wasn't overwhelming so the pizza was still enjoyable. The Greek salad I must admit was pretty big for what I expected in a medium sized salad. I ate off of it for a few days, however, it was a bit disappointing. I personally don't consider iceberg lettuce to be a good choice for a "Greek salad". Romaine is usually the standard. I also wasn't a fan of the long, skinny slices of tomato on it. The "Greek salad" could've also used some cucumbers, pepperoncinis and some juicy Kalamata olives. I'll admit, I'm a bit of a salad snob and prefer authentic Greek, but at least the dressing was good. The second time we ordered we chose the BBQ chicken pizza which was pretty yummy. I didn't get a picture before digging in because we were too hungry. The BBQ sauce wasn't too sweet and had just the right amount drizzled on top. I ended up ordering another Greek salad, but this time asked for banana peppers on it. The cheesecake is good too! Monavala is definitely a fav on our pizza place list and it's close by so wait times for delivery are pretty quick. Prices are reasonable. Delivery man is always nice. Pizza Hut across the street closed recently so I figured I'd try something other than the usual Domino's or Papa John's. I had the BBQ Chicken pizza and it was pretty good. I tried it without cheese and the flavor was good but not quite saucy enough for my taste. I also wish there was some more chicken on there. Four stars for affordability! I think I spent a total of $25 dollars for a calzone, a salad, and a dinner sized portion of ravioli to be delivered to my house. At that price, I was pretty nervous about what the food would taste like, but to my surprise it was pretty good. The calzone was enormous. If that was the smallest on their menu, I'm super curious to see what the large looks like. The salad was also pretty large and very fresh. I enjoyed the dressing they gave me and that they gave enough for the large salad. The ravioli I could have lived without. They weren't bad, they just lacked something....I couldn't quite put my finger on. The highlight was definitely the calzone. It wasn't the greatest thing I've ever eaten, but its SO cheap. The delivery took about 45 minutes which was what they told me to expect so I didn't mind that and the delivery man was very polite. This restaurant is perfect if you want a casual meal but don't want to compromise on taste. The bread was warm and soft. It came with an olive spread, or could be dipped in olive oil and balsamic. My parents and I agreed that their calamari was some of the best we've ever had. The chicken parmigiana and lasagna were also both incredible. This place is very cozy, I immediately felt comfortable sitting in the lounge area while being tended from the lovely owner Mike's hospitality. He's an AMAZING guy, my entire order was custom made and all of the requests were made to perfection! My roommates and I enjoyed the entire course.
