From the outside, it looked like a place that has been around for many years. It's not falling apart, but it definitely feels a bit outdated and like it hasn't been updated in a long time. When we walked in, it was almost empty. There was only one waiter and just one table for four or five people seated. No one else was there, so at first I thought, "uh oh, this might not be good." Surprisingly, the food was actually very good. I ordered the steak fajitas, and compared to many Mexican restaurants, they were using real pieces of meat instead of the cheap cuts you sometimes get. The meat was tender and flavorful. My companion ordered another Mexican dish with the same type of beef, and it was also good. So on the food side, it was a pleasant surprise. The service was fine, but very quiet and a bit dull. The waiter didn't have much energy, almost like he was tired or not very engaged. The place itself also lacked atmosphere. The typical slow Mexican music was playing, nothing lively, and the restaurant just felt empty and without much energy. The place has kept the 'dive' vibe alive, but it's quite safe to visit now. And the food is quite good! One buddy (who always gets a reuben) tried the ribeye sandwich and was very impressed - though we called it the reubeye. I had the hard pressed Cuban and it was wonderful. And the fried pickles are cut lengthwise, so you get a better experience than slices - they're called 'frickles'. Definitely worth a visit when you're in the area.

The single hostess wasn't necessarily unpleasant but looked rather listless on her phone while we made our orders with her. I got the Jeyook Bokkeum (spicy pork) with purple rice. Can't really complain; it wasn't incredible, but it wasn't bad either. Banchan (side dishes) were decidedly average, however. We ordered the black sesame ice cream but halfway while eating it, we realized it wasn't actually black sesame (or at least didn't taste like it). Disappointing, but not enough to fully ruin the experience. Prices weren't great considering the quality of the food or location, but not prohibitive either. Considering the paucity of Asian food in Middletown, I'll give Seoul Sizzle a pass, but against greater competition, it probably wouldn't have lasted long in NYC.
