Let me start by saying the Old Man with the white hair that's always in the front is Rude and Racist. I've never dealt with someone that's always so consistently rude, every time I checkout it's an attitude and he'll say "you're good" as if I can't afford it or he expects my card to decline. I tried not to think the worst and say it's just him but my last and final time there, he told the white lady in front of me to have a good day. meanwhile all i get is "you're good" im extremely dissapointed in this man and this establishment and they absolutely won't be seeing me or my money ever again! Also they don't even keep their meats and cheeses wrapped up everything is just thrown back in there and they barely clean their slicers or the fridge. it's just an overall mess!! SMH! read more

I had a last minute family get together with about 12 people. Jay's was able to accommodate my order for 3 half trays with 2 days notice. We had penne vodka, chicken francese and smashed red potatoes with bacon. Every dish was great, especially the potatoes. The food was ready at the agreed upon time and the aluminum trays came inside cardboard boxes for easy transport. My guests were impressed and looked forward to our next catered event. We used them to cater our son's first communion. Very good food. When you factor in how cheap the food was you can't go wrong. A tray of food that normally costs 70-90 elsewhere was 55. This is a full service deli with excellent sandwiches. The deli counter is lightning fast but their hard work is undermined by a dated and slow credit card processor. Check out lines for the cashier are extremely long and frustrating when you are in a rush. Otherwise, this deli is fantastic and it has a big inventory of grocery store items. read more

Called Jays deli today and ordered 2 sandwiches, chicken tenders and some Mac and cheese. Was told it will be ready in 20 mins. Get there 30 minutes later and the food isn't ready. My step daughter was waiting inside and no one even acknowledged her I had to go inside and ask where my food was they told me that they were really busy and it probably hadn't even been started yet I told the man it had been over 40 minutes and I called in advance. he said I can't even find your order. he was very rude and non-apologetic he finally found my order repeated it back to me and said yeah nobody's even started this. by this time it had been 50 minutes. It is one thing to be understaffed and not be able to function at an expected level but then being nasty and rude to the customer about it, not even an apology. My family and I used to love Jay's deli and order from them frequently the past few times the food has been horrible and they're always screwing up our order. I was lucky enough to win a gift card in the Hudson Valley Relief market to this amazing place. I catered a party for a gender reveal and Jays did all of the food plus the cupcakes with one having the inside filled with the pink color icing for the reveal. All of the food was raved about and the cupcakes were delicious. I never would have found this place on mg own but I am so glad i know about it now! Definitely will be using Jays for other events!!! I went in the other night for ice cream. I should have checked the time they close because I got there a few minutes before closing. I looked at the flavors through the glass for a few seconds then opened the door to the freezer to look at the flavors behind other flavors. Jay's may be one of only two places in Highland Mills that are worth writing a review about. It's a grocery, sandwich shop, pizza joint, bakery, coffee shop, smoke shop, lottery outlet and more. It's the general store for the town. If you get here early, a group of older local men share hilarious recollections about times gone by. My guess is that everyone in town who can ambulated stops in here at least once a week. It's like the song Alice's Restaurant--"you can get any thing you want..." Today our senior center had an outstanding lunch from this deli. It was turkey, cooked to perfection, sweet potatoes and stuffing, carrots and mashed potatoes with gravy. Each portion was enough for three meals! To top it off pumpkin pie and apple pie. Also assorted cookies were on each table just in case you had any room for a sweet. I think Jay's Deli is a wonderful place for cold cuts, meats, sandwiches, and a wonderful eating area for breakfast and lunch. I appreciate high quality items and Jays fits the bill My dad and I always came here for lunch and were always impressed. They even bring the food back to you while you wait in the back seating area (which is nice). They have a good stock of groceries and frozen items. Nothing is organic or local, but the food is damn good and worth your time to visit if you are in the area. I don't think there is such a thing as organic lunch meat.. is there? Great sandwiches. We made a pit stop on our way from the outlets up to Vermont- and this placed popped up on our yelp. We were a bit skeptical since it is a mini-mart, but the sandwiches and hot food selection changed our mind. We split the steak sandwich and the tuna melt. Both were super tasty- but I would say the steak is more worth the $ since they were both $8. They have a good selection and would love to come back if we are in the area again. read more

Today it took them 1.5 hours (total between 2 trips, I had to go back when they got the order wrong); to get me 1 order of home fries, a short stack, 2 rolls, and a bacon-egg-cheese. Love. Love. Love. I grew up in Highland Mills for 13 years and have lived in Atlanta for the last 12 years and at least once a week Jay's is brought up in conversation between all of my relatives. We miss our quick dinners and snacks. Great for bringing dinner home, eating there, or grabbing a snack on the road. We like to drive from GA to NY and this is the best place to grab food to go.
