    Review Highlights - Monical's Pizza

Since I grew up in Chicago and only lived in Kankakee area for 10 years, I didn't grow up putting Sweet-N-Tart dressing on the pizza.

Entrees came with a really good salad and some type of bread nuggets that were really good. Both were so good there wasn't much room left for the main courses. Magarita pizza was great and the parpadelle pasta were enormous in quantity. Three meals here. Overall, a nice place with big portions. Pricing is on par with that. **3% surcharge fee** Always take a star off for that and will not be back. At $28 for a bowl of pasta I think $.84 is a little ridiculous for how I pay for it...

We were headed home from a trip to Wheaton this afternoon and decided to try Tucci's…read more Our experience was mixed. We had the misfortune of dining here on a Monday night, when they have a Pasta Bar. The logistics around it were horrible. It was located in the middle of a corridor that we had to pass through to get to our table. There had to be at least a dozen people standing two abreast in a corridor intended for one person. We tried their calamari appetizer and were quite disappointed. They definitely did not use calamari steak, which is tender and succulent. Rather, they use calamari at the low end, and it was correspondingly tough and chewy. They offer a choice of unlimited salad or soup. Our server completely forgot to bring ours until after our main courses arrived. Had we not inquired about it, I suspect it would have been missed completely. As it turned out, the salad was mediocre at best, which is surprising considering it was supposed to be fresh. Not so sure about their supplier. The olive oil and herb mixture they served with their rolls was much more fresh than their salad, bitter implying a positive situation (fresh phenols) when it comes to Extra Virgin or Virgin oils. We ordered their Carbonara with Angel Hair pasta instead of spaghetti and fortunately, it was some of the best I have had in probably 30 years. The main course made up for the appetizer, though. Still, the overall experience was subpar. They did have very handsome bussers, so there was that!

They open at 4:00 pm. Be there then. At 4:30 pm, the place is crowded! Their staff are wonderful - friendly, fast, make you feel like you belong there. They have a spectacular oven and they can turn out pizzas pretty fast - which is a good thing since I bet they make lots and lots of them every day. We sat at the door for a 'to-go' order and had beer and wine while we waited. What we observed around us is a place that truly cares about its customers. That said, they show that in their pizzas, which are among the best. Give Frankie's a shot. Whether it's pizza to go or a dine in experience, you won't be sorry.

I know it'll be there by my next visit, which will be soon. A seller for me is homemade pasta with an option for gluten free. If it was organic it's a hard 5. No judgement though. Frankie's is the spot where you park up by 3:45/3:50 and wait for the doors to open as their hours are short, hot and sweet. This is a tucked away spot packing tons of flavor on the small menu(major hit). Locals pack this spot asap at the bar so be there by 3:45. Haha. The restaurant has nice decor and attentive friendly service. As the server comes to the table with heavy greetings, they run down the special menu. Drinks are always good, nothing intricate but enough to elevate the experience and hit hard. The appetizers are good. I enjoyed the calamari and shrimp as well as the octopus. But now to the star of the show is their pastas. FRIENDLY REMINDER, all are homemade. The Pappardelle w/ Wide Ribbon Pasta, Black Truffle Cream Sauce and Mushrooms is amazing.. I added the gluten free meatballs and yummy. A savory bite. The rigatoni vodka sauce(added sausage) was a hit. Another star of the table was the Linguine w/ Shrimp,Broccoli, Evoo and Garlic. A fully loaded plate. The Gnocchi w/ Ricotta Cheese Filling, vodka sauce.. added meatballs was another hit. The star of the show was our pizza which resembles a meat lovers with pepperoni, Sopressata and Giardiniera (which is more like a relish and I love). I've had other dishes but after multiple countless visits this is what I love at this time. The pizza is cooked in a high heat oven which gives the perfect char, let it settle for a couple minutes as it sits on the table. Overall, when in this part of Illinois hands down the place to be. Hours are only 4-9pm and that says a lot. My only insight would be ask for the bread to be served warm. I'm sure a fresh loaf in the pizza oven for a couple of minutes will go a long way. ENJOY!

The atmosphere is intimate and cozy, with just the right volume of music to enjoy conversation. The service was excellent, attentive yet unobtrusive. We started with the Fire Roasted Meatballs, Burrata & Prosciutto with Fig Jam, and Ciabatta Bread, all of which were fresh and flavorful. The Eggplant Parmesan and Potato Croquettes (with prosciutto cotto, mozzarella, and roasted red pepper aioli) were also incredible. For the main course, we shared two pizzas: * Burrata & Honey - A perfect mix of San Marzano tomatoes, fior di latte, soppressata, hot honey, and chili flakes. * Diavolo - A bold and delicious combination of San Marzano sauce, fior di latte, soppressata, ricotta, and chili oil. The grand finale was dessert, and the Tiramisu cake was absolutely divine--light, creamy, and the perfect ending to our meal. Overall, Forno is a gem. The restaurant is the perfect size, the food is top-notch, and the experience was memorable.
