Friends said the best Garlic noodz in the bay were monkey king. I've had this BM for a couple of years. Was waiting for an after golf at Chuck Corica with the Bros to check it out. Well that's not happening anytime soon. So simply based on the recommendation me and #1 son ventured forth. I felt a wee bit guilty because they said they would accompany us if we decided to go. I thought, well what if it sucks? Then I'd be embarrassed. We ordered ahead to take out. Got em home with no traffic 15 minutes and opened up the package still Ssssssmokinnnnn hot. So the verdict is in. drum role please! Brrrrrrrrrrrrrr bam..... yep the hype is warranted 100%! We got them loaded with extra garlic, peppers, onions shrimp etc. dayam! Hubby and I was at a friend's house hanging out, when we all started to feel hungry. We were craving KBBQ, but unfortunately they have already closed. So we searched around to see what was still opened a bit late night, and we found Monkey King Pub & Grub. This was the first time Hubby and I have been, but we have heard great things about this place. We ordered their spicy crab fries and some honey walnut prawns to share since we didn't want to eat too much. Upon arriving, we waited a bit to get help because the cashier was helping another customer with some difficulties. He was finally done and got to us and he was really kind. They were short staffed and only had 2 people working. We told him that we are picking up and order and provided him with the name, paid and he asked if we wanted any sweet and sour or hot sauce I believe. Hubby said he would like some sweet and sour (but we ended up not needing it). The honey walnut prawns were to die for! Oh my goodness. It was just so freaking delicious. The spicy crab fries were good. It wasn't too spicy which was good, but it had a lot of green onions, which threw the taste a bit off for us. There could've been a bit more fries inside to help balance out the crab, but overall it was good. We may be back to try other items on their menu, as I heard great things about their garlic noodles. read more

Hot and sour soup is delicious! Just the perfect amount of spice to make it so nice. For an entree, we shared a General Tsao's chicken. Its fried pieces of chicken with a light breading around the outside. The best part is the sauce. Its a sweet garlic style sauce that blends into rice so beautifully. We also tried the fried rice. Loved that it had nice chunks of pork. Yummy! This place is on the busiest street in Alameda.... Park Street. So parking can be a little hectic, but we can usually find a space within a couple blocks. Sometimes it helps to go residential in the surrounding blocks. read more

Me and a friend were walking down Park St looking for food when I remembered about a recommendation I was given for Monkey King years ago. I've heard really good things about their garlic noodles, so I decided to give it a try. Inside, there's a lot of tables where you order and pay via a QR code. We were seated really quickly and the servers were really friendly showing us the ordering system. Starting with the good: the garlic noodles lived up to the hype! There was this light creamy sauce on the noodles which I don't really see on garlic noodles much, but it really put so much flavor in each bite of noodle. Everything else we ordered was okay in my opinion. We got the Korean Fried Chicken which was basically boneless wings in a sweet and sour sauce. This place is always a hit or miss. Today it was a miss. I was the second person to be there when they open. First group sat down and I was a to-go order. I don't understand why I had to wait 40 mins to get my order. I watched DoorDash orders being picked up and other customers sitting there after me order and get their food.... But I still waited. Well, I'm going to bump my Yelp score up to 5-stars because this is probably the best tasting takeout I've had so far. It probably tastes better in the restaurant, but hey....Covid-19 still says takeout or delivery. I ordered the Fried Chicken wings with General Tsou sauce. OMG they're good. The flavor is bold. The wings are sticky and messy I also ordered the Mongolian Beef Chow Mein. An interesting combination....Mongolian beef and fried noodles. Monkey King is pretty lit. I usually come here for some late night grub and some Hennessy lemonade. The drinks are reasonably priced and the food is good! The Kimchi fried rice is super flavorful and everything tastes bussin with MSG (Which has an unfair stigma like there's nothing wrong with MSG y'all.) I would eat here more often but it's not really giving healthy so I come here when I wanna get down on sum greasy and satisfying and when I feel like getting drunk off heem. They are sometimes understaffed but the workers still work hard to check on you so you'll have to be patient on the busy nights. read more

This is the first time coming back after the pandemic and it will be the last. The garlic noodles that they are known for are inedible. It's literally noodles and with massive amounts of butter and garlic, but somehow you barely taste the garlic. We sent it back but did not receive a refund. Firstly we got there the tables were dirty, we had to seat ourself and we're not greeted , my daughter then went to the bar to place our order. We waited not long for our food but while waiting they never brought water napkins or utensils , a lady then brought our drinks and they were watered down and the cups were dirty , when the food came I have a high allergy to scrambled eggs. My daughter upon ordering told them not add eggs. And they brought the plate with eggs anyways and had an attitude and asked if we wanted a refund , I simply stayed no I'd just like my food made over if that would be ok. They stormed off brought the plate back the meat was burned we asked for prawns to be added to the crab fried rice and it was only 2!! The food was oily and we also ordered pork lumpia's those were decent on a scale of 1-5 I'd give them a 0. The couple across from us also agreed the food isn't how it use to be and that was the only reason they even came was for memories but it seems like quality and service has declined 100% further more the little bit that we did eat made us nauseated and sick to our stomach's later in the night , i would not recommend this place unless you have a tough stomach or don't mind rudeness from staff of lack of character and commitment to please their customers. Shrimp chow mein - 5/5 I requested no veggies which made it even better. Salt and pepper fried chicken breast - 2/5 chunks were too big and very soggy. Definitely needed to be crispier and in smaller pieces. Also, lacked flavor. Fried ribs - 5/5 my boyfriend really enjoyed them. So the one thing I could never complain about this place is the food. However, the service is subpar understandably the way time is longer than normal however, when a hostess/host tells you you can sit outside and they'll serve you right away you're expecting the same kind of service that you receive inside the restaurant outside. Instead of all of our food was brought into go boxes and we had to set up our meal on the table not once the waiter come out and ask if we need anything even though they told us that we would be waited on outside then when we went to the bar, I immediately noticed that one of the bartenders serving us. I've been helping himself to some of the alcohol behind the bar and the reason I say this is because his speech was slurred he was unable to focus on simple tasks and every other drink he was mixing he was pretty much messing up. I'm pretty sure if I made reservations or was a little more patient and waited for my seat inside service would've been different that being said though you should make sure that your employees remain professional the banquet style seating is great for large parties but it also takes away from additional tables that they can add I had placed my name on the waitlist and by the time I was done eating and driving back home to Pano I received a text message saying my table is ready. This is a whole hour and 45 minutes later this is one of my favorite restaurants in Alameda but these are just some of my most recent observations. The food is amazing. I have them a 3 stars because although the food was pretty good I totally remember what the food tasted like before the pandemic. ***The crab ginger rice was good but where was the crab? Nowhere to be found. And the ginger, no ginger was in it either. So I hadn't been there before I would have a different perspective. Don't get me wrong, the crab rice was good but absent of crab, bring your own crab if you want crab rice. The green beans and fish and chips were good but just a touch too much sugar in the seasoning. The chicken wings were just okay, not seasoned enough. First of all, if I could leave 10 stars, I'd leave 50. Monkey King deserves a way better rating than what it currently has, so I'm hoping my review will help change that. I have been a foodie for years so I have been to many many places & have tried lots of different food, but Monkey King is now in my top 3 favorites of all time. This Asian fusion restaurant sure knows how to make some delicious, high quality Asian dishes. I was speechless my first & second time coming here & I'm sure I will be the third time as well, except the next time I come here, I'm getting enough food to meal prep for a week straight just so I can have it every single day. I would pay double the price for Monkey King. I would clean their dishes for free. I would give up my cats for Monkey King. When I went here for my first time a couple weeks ago, I couldn't help but try a bunch of different things: -Salt & Pepper Wings & Fries (9/10): Such a great price for a delicious, filling meal on its own. The fries drenched in garlic had so much flavor & the wings were perfectly crispy. They even have a half portion if 10 wings is too much. If they didn't have such a big menu with SO many other great options, this alone would be perfect as a meal. -Spicy Korean Dried Fried Ribs (6/10): Probably my least favorite dish, the flavor of the sauce didn't compliment the crispy ribs like I thought it would. -Basil Salt & Pepper Dried Fried Ribs (10000000/10): THIS DISH IS A MUST. One of the best things on the menu. The FLAVOR. & you HAVE to add garlic, jalapeños, & green onions to get the most of this outstanding dish. My only complaint is that I wish they were boneless because it's hard to see the bones so sometimes they're hard to get off, but it's still my favorite dish, I'll go through all the bones any time just for this dish. -Mongolian Beef Chow Mein (12/10): Some of the chewiest, thickest noodles you'll ever have. The texture alone makes this a great dish, & the flavor makes it even better. I don't think I've had better chow mein anywhere else. -Kimchi Fried Rice (12/10): The best kimchi fried rice I've ever had. It comes with a perfectly cooked egg on top & a generous amount of spam. -Korean Fried Chicken (8.5/10): These were delicious, but there wasn't anything too special about them. Compared to everything else, this dish was just okay. I would say it's a good dish to order for big parties that want a variety of things to try. But definitely fill up on other dishes before this one. -Honey Walnut Shrimp (15/10): While this dish didn't taste too much different from most honey walnut shrimp dishes, it was still one of the best & a must order every time. But maybe that's just because honey walnut shrimp is one of my favorites in general, definitely can't go wrong & it pairs really well with the fried rice & chow mein. -General's Tsou (8.5/10): This dish was delicious, but also nothing really stood out. I would say this would also be a great dish to order for big parties to have a variety of things to try. -Spicy Crab Fries (100000/10, not pictured): These are a MUSTTTT try with the added garlic, jalapeños, & green onions. But if you ask for garlic, be warned that they will DRENCH it in garlic, but in the best way possible. I've never tried crab fries before because the thought of seafood on top of my fries never sounded appealing to me, but these will be a must for me every time I come here now. There are so many different toppings & sauces & the fries still hold their shape & crunch. Overall, this place is a must try & I can guarantee you will find at least 3 dishes that will leave your jaw dropped to the ground. Most of their dishes are heavy on the garlic, which is one of the reasons why I love it so much. Aside from the delicious food, the prices are AMAZING!! Compared to most places nowadays, their dishes here are priced really well for the portions. Everything that I listed was shared between 5 people with leftovers to take home too. The customer service is great too & the best part is that you can pay through the app so no need to wait around for your check after you finish eating. This place can get busy on a Friday night, but service is quick & the waiters are very attentive. We were lucky to be seated as soon as we got there on a Friday night around 8pm, but a couple people after us had to wait maybe 10-15 minutes at most. This is a diabetics nightmare. With that said the food is pretty tasty for the most part, but I def taste the sugar in each bite. The lemon pepper wings were super delish, I fa sho recommend. Calamari was also very tasty! We had the garlic noodles and the crab fried rice which was ok, but a little too sweet. We arrive close to opening and the place was kid friendly, the server was nice and answered my questions without getting overwhelmed, which is a plus. Crab fried rice was amazing and their crab dishes are all real, salt and pepper short ribs were good and perfectly crispy and would want to try the salt and pepper chicken wings next time, and beef chow mein was just so so. Saw soo many dishes going to different tables that looked amazing. Drinks are so good and very strong! They also have pitchers of certain drinks. The restaurant fills up super quick even on a Thursday and they have a Yelp waitlist inside. Parking is a little difficult to park on the street after 5pm.
