Love this shop!! This is now the third time I've used them. I got an oil change, my coolant tank replaced and a flush of the coolant lines. I came in only needing the oil but having a leak for the last 2 weeks. They let me know what was wrong and gave me price information as well as letting me know I could have waited to replace the coolant system if I wanted. That's the best part of them, they really keep you informed about everything in your car, what needs to be done, what to watch for, and gives no pressure to buy. They seem to be right on market prices for labor and parts. I'll never go elsewhere!!! read more

I'd brought my older car to Monkey Wrenches twice. Once was due to a check engine light (which they identified quickly and were able to address via a required new water pump.) The second time was, sadly, due to signs of a blown head gasket on a 2013 car with lots of miles, and not worth fixing. Both times, their staff has been empathetic, upfront on repair options and very responsive to calls and follow up. I'd recommend them to anyone in the Brentwood area needing a mechanic. I haven't had to do a lot of car repairs since moving to Brentwood, so I can't compare costs. It will be a while before I'm back, having recently purchased a newer (used) vehicle but I'd definitely use them again when the time comes. I especially appreciate Rina, who is at the front desk and will explain repair and pricing options in a way that you can easily understand. She's a a great asset to their business! read more

I took my vehicle in for a complimentary travel pre-check before my long road trip. The service was amazing and they even sent me an email with a link to my own personal vehicle inspection report with pictures of what needed my attention. That was beyond my expectations of most auto repair shops - especially for free! The staff were very friendly and professional. They took their time to help me understand what needed to be done and provided me with quotes. Everyone were masked up and their pens were all sanitized for customers with a clean and dirty bin. I had a terrible safety issue with my 2020 Volvo XC90 brake where the brake pad was almost gone and it was making an insane grinding noise. I drove the car that way for a few days. But on the 19th of Jan, I decided to not take any risk on that especially because I was using the car to pick up/drop off my kid at the school. Since morning, I started reaching out to almost all the mechanic shops/brake shops in and around Brentwood for them to at least inspect the car and let me know if it's in the condition for me to drive it to Volvo Service, Dublin. This was my solo car at that point. To top it off, all the car rentals in Brentwood and nearby areas showed to be sold off. I was driving the car around the town to different places in the city to see if anyone is able to help me out. No luck anywhere. After reading some reviews, I decided to go directly to Monkey Wrenches in Brentwood and explain the situation and try my luck out for the last time. I met Rima at the reception, and I explained the whole situation. She was a godsend who in spite of having a ton of other work, listened to me calmly and promised to get the car inspected by the same day and give me a call with the pricing estimates. On top of that, Ted (the owner) somehow listened to my problem while I was talking to Rima and went to Enterprise Car Rental (next door) and managed a rental car where I was previously denied because of the non-availability of any rental. I left the place with a rental car with me. Got a call from Rima within a couple of hours and got to know that the brakes are gone, but it should be covered by Volvo because of a caliper issue. She went above and beyond and even talked to the service manager in Volvo Dublin and explained the issue. My car was towed the next morning and got fixed a couple of days later without me having to pay a penny. Monkey Wrenches could have given me a quote and fixed it by themselves and I would have (happily) paid without thinking much. They did not do that and went for the right way even if that did not make money for their business. I did not know if these kinda genuine business practices still exist these days. Our Chevy Captiva had an electrical problem so once I got it started thanks to AAA I took it to Monkey Wrench And Brian came out and took all my information very detailed, so I left him my keys and went next store to Enterprise car rental and told them Brian sent me and I got the lowest rate. The next day Brian called and said they had charged the battery and everything was working as far as the voltage regulator and alternator was good too but battery was not holding a charge so he gave me a complete read out so I took the battery back to O'Reilly's auto parts and they they had to test as part of their warranty so waited about an hour and when they brought it out to me I said it's charged I said Hello this readout from monkey wrench said it's not holding a charge so they all got together and finally gave me a new battery. Took it back to Brian and they put everything back together, and they also did an oil change too, So we got our car back and everything works good so thanks Brian and Monkey wrench for all your help. Thought it was kinda off... $189 to just diagnose it and nothing goes to the repairs of the vehicle. They will overcharge you every time!!! My 95 year old father needed major repairs to his 2006 Buick. He can be a bit difficult at times....a little crotchety. Rima and her crew at Monkey Wrenches were so patient with him. They collaborated with me, a close family friend, and dad's Buick. It is now in tip top shape. The major repairs were done in a timely fashion, and thorough. Went here to get my sons Jeep TJ looked at because we were told this place works on wranglers and they could help. We needed the Trac bar replaced and just wanted to get a quote for the repair. We also wanted to have it looked at to make sure there wasn't anything else that needed attention and they said it would be $169 just to take a look. We would have been fine with that if that money could be used towards the repair, or at least a portion of it could be. No, it was $169 to have someone drive it and tell us what we already knew. I took my BMW here after seeing good reviews to have a vacuum hose leak repaired and a possible transmission fluid leak repaired. I had already run a diagnostics test on the car and had a print out of the codes. They refused to accept the diagnostics check and wanted to run their own. The service advisor said they charge $169.99 to just run the diagnostics check. When I told him again that I already had that done and have a print out for him he refused to accept it and stated that they charge $169.99 for it. I told him I would take my car to a mechanic who will accept my diagnostics check and I took it to Bush Motor Works in Pittsburg. Sure enough the owner accepted the diagnostics check and did not charge me to do another one. A diagnostic check takes all of 5 minutes at the most and to charge $169.99 is pretty much a rip off. If a mechanic shop is willing to rip people off to run a five minute check imagine how much more they're going to rip you off to do the repairs. I do not recommend this shop. UPDATE: It was a leak in the vacuum hose which was also causing the minor fluid leak. Bush Motor Works total cost including parts and labor, $200.00. I f I would have had Monkey Wrenches do the work it would have been $200 plus $169.99for a total of $369.99. Thanks to Bush MW I saved $200!!! IN RESPONSE TO THW OWNER'S REPLY BELOW: Let's go over the facts, shall we? 1. It was Monkey Wrenches next to Enterprise car rentals. Maybe take a moment to speak with your service advisor before attempting to blame a different company. Can't say it was an honest mistake on your behalf, though. 2. ASE certified mechanics are the industry standard. Just as Bush Motor Works uses ASE certified mechanics. They had no problem reading the diagnostics generated report and quickly identified the problem saving me the $169.99 your company would have charged for a service that was already completed. Back in the day people paid for a diagnostic of their vehicle because the technology was only available to mechanics. But now it is available to everyone. I can purchase a high quality diagnostics tool for $129.99 from Autozone and still save $40.00 from what you charge. 3. No one requested preferential treatment just honest treatment. If I have already had a diagnostics done then there is no need to charge me for another one. You would get the same information. But your business relies on ripping people off with the $169.99 service that again takes all of five minutes to plug in the machine, run the program, then read the codes. Most diagnostics, like the one I had done, tell you the potential issues making it easier to quickly identify where the problem was. 4. The inspection charge is quite accurate as that is what I was told by your service advisor. Again instead of trying to deflect fro. The actual facts speak with your service advisor. I was also written in on the schedule he had on his desk for Wednesday at 9 AM. 5. I'm sure you have been successfully overcharging $169.99 to people who may not care that you're ripping them off. Not everyone educates themselves on the charges. But you ran into someone who did and it's so frustrating for you that instead of accepting the facts and moving on, you've decided to claim it was a different company. I absolutely will continue to give my business to Bush Motor Works. Why would I not? In fact I'm taking my wife's 2011 BMW there next week for an oil change. I tend to go where an owner appreciates their customers and is willing to help their customers save a few bucks by accepting a diagnostic that was already done. Michael Carbone is a godsend! My husband and I both have brought previous cars to Monkey Wrenches and always had some of the best service and care, so it was a no brainer to bring my latest car to them. My car's battery light came on so I immediately brought it in. When I turned on the car for them, the battery light didn't come back on. We left the car there for testing and Michael even said to leave the car overnight so they could do more testing. Even after doing a thorough inspection, the light never came back on for them so they couldn't determine the problem which wasn't their fault. My Aunt had a problem with her Nissan SUV's aircon. She was quoted an almost $4000 job by Monkey Wrench saying that the car needed a new compressor kit. It was devastating for my Aunt as she was a senior with limited cash but she needed the AC as the summer heat is already here. Fortunately for her she thought of bringing it to a Nissan dealership for a second opinion and they quoted her $1500, $600 of which is unrelated to the AC problem. Don't you hate it when your "Check Engine" light comes on just before going out of town? I was referred to Monkey Wrenches and it was a great resource. Mike explained their diagnostic cost, repair estimate process and timeline. The diagnostic showed multiple possible causes. Therefore there were two options for repair, low and high cost. I found their explanations of both to be fair and prices reasonable. We went with the lesser cost repair, which turned out to be actual issue. They could have easily only recommended the higher priced repair, that included the lesser and I would not have known. Honesty is something everyone should expect in a mechanic and they displayed it. As stated we were heading out of town. I had made a reservation at the car rental next door. Even though I had a reservation Mike walked me over and asked them to give me their discounted pricing, which saved me about 50% off the car rental. Extra thanks for that. We will definitely use Monkey Wrenches again. read more

We took our son's car here for a noise investigation. They charged $75 for the diagnostic to determine it was the power steering pump (they never offered to apply the $75 to the repair, which used to be pretty common). They found the following additional things wrong, and quoted us about $1600: -front brakes -rear brake adjustment -brake fluid (because a test strip indicated copper) We decided not to do the front brakes because they were done elsewhere recently. When my wife went to pay they had fixed an auxiliary brake light, which we didn't know they were fixing, and the charged us almost $100 to fix the lightbulbs. They applied a $100 "coupon" when my wife expressed her concern about the unauthorized repair. I later determined the brake fluid had just been changed at the dealership less than 6 months earlier (for $50 less than Monkey Wrenches charged). Some Internet research revealed that the test strips they use are wrong about 50% of the time. We paid for the repairs and the went elsewhere to get the front brakes done for about half the price Monkey Wrenches quoted us. I called Monkey Wrenches to discuss some of the issues and gave them some time to review my concerns and decide if they wanted to offer a credit or refund. I left it up to them to offer a fair resolution, but they declined to do anything to resolve this. I won't be going back, and I think others should get a second opinion before considering this shop. My experience was that they do unauthorized work, do unnecessary work, charge excessive labor fees, and don't value their local customer base. They are free to run their business however they want, but ultimately their bad business practices will come back to hurt their bottom line. read more

Driving thru on vacation from Montana my 03silverado duramax diesel truck died instantly with no warning. Unsure of where to go a friend from Oakley recommend Monkey Wrench in Brentwood. I called and Ted was able to fit us in due to a few last minute cancelations. We were met with cold water and reassuring smiling faces. Excellent technician work by Marco was able to track the problem quickly to a pinched electrical wire running to main computer system causing fuses to blow. My poor 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe has low mileage but the old girl was running on all original parts and they were aging. It was time to get a full checkup. I dropped my car off a little before opening and left the key in the night drop box. I had ordered an Uber but it cancelled and I had to get to work. My key was in the drop box so I was stuck. I knocked on the door and surprisingly someone opened it even though it wasn't business hours yet. I told the gentlemen my predicament and I would need to reschedule. He not only gave me a ride to work but sent a pickup after work. As I suspected my car needed quite a bit of tender loving care. I was emailed a detailed report of the findings including pictures. Can you give 6 stars? These guys are thorough! When my husband got his truck home from their shop he noticed that his right rear tire was low. Big screw in the middle of the tire. When he went to put on the spare, he found out that they not only checked the tire pressure on the tires but also on the spare! Work on the truck was done on time. It drives like a dream and they came in under estimate. We knew we needed new tires when we brought it in and they gave us recommendations as where to buy them. read more
