When he went to put on the spare, he found out that they not only checked the tire pressure on the tires but also on the spare! Work on the truck was done on time. What a rip off. I am never taking my car here again. My car had an alternator go out. It's $150 part and 1 hour of Labor. I had it towed to Monkey wrenches it took them 2 days to get me a quote and they quoted $700. I told them don't do anything I will take it to my other mechanic that I called and they would only charge me 300. I went to pick up my car and monkey wrenches build me $65 for that quote. They said that they always bill for telling you what's wrong with your car. I am never going there again ever read more

Top flight mechanics with great "old fashioned" customer service! My car was making a terrible screeching sound at 4:45 on a Friday afternoon. Despite their being very busy, owner Ted Curran personally came out to check the car. He could have easily said, "we'll look at it on Monday." Instead, he determined I had a leak in my power steering line, refilled the fluids so I could get home (an hour away), advised me to get it fixed as quickly as possible - and did not charge me for his time or materials. I actually used a free coupon that came in the mail for a pre-travel inspection. I thought I'd try this place out since I was still new in town and hadn't found a good mechanic yet. The guy behind the desk was super friendly and answered all of my questions in depth. He told me that they would be mostly visual checks including the fluids and belts. They gave me free shuttle service home also. When I picked up our van at the shop, I noticed they not only had a complete documented paper of all that that was checked, but they also vacuumed out the interior, washed the van, and shined the tires...all for free. They didn't make any money off of me that day but they will get my return service for giving excellent customer service. read more

This is probably one of the best experiences that I have had dealing with an automotive mechanic shop. Not only was my van fixed the same day with electrical issues, the atmosphere around the office were very respectful, family orientated and friendly. Our fuel pump blew on the hottest day of the year two blocks from their shop. They went above and beyond to come and get us and took my husband, our pooch and myself home so we wouldn't be out in the heat. Took over having our truck towed to their shop. The only thing I was not expecting was the $117 for an oil change That was definitely not in my budget; I think the most I've ever spent was $45 on a standard oil change (we do not have a fancy car by any means). My wife and I needed a local mechanic for an oil change/safety inspection prior to a family road trip. Monkey Wrenches was recommended to me by a friend that is a mechanic out of the area. I have to say that I was very impressed by their professionalism with meeting our needs. I explained that I was in a time crunch due to my laziness of having to schedule an appointment and they understood and helped out. Rima got us in on the same day and was very good with communication. She called with additional repair recommendations and let us know what repair items were immediate and which could wait for a later date. When picking up the car, she went over the bill line by line and explained everything about the services done on the car. I have read many positive reviews on this repair shop, but unfortunately my experience with this shop wasn't as pleasurable as the reviews that have been posted on Yelp. I had a "Service Engine" light on my wifes Pathfinder, this particular light has been a reoccurring problem that resurfaces when I have to register my vehicle with a Smog Certificate. So, I have passed Monkey Wrenches numerous time going in and out of Brentwood when doing errands, also seen them advertise in a local magazine, so I thought that I would inquire inside to get a feeling of the place. I spoke to the owner Ted, and explained the problem that I was having with our SUV, Ted informed me that there is a $169.00 diagnostic to help pinpoint the code that was causing the engine light, I inquired on whether or not that fee would be credited to the repair cost if I chose his shop to do the work, he said "no, my guys need to get pay for their time" that's understandable, but after hearing that policy, I should have looked for another repair facility that would appreciate you're business enough not to nickel and dime you to debt. Normally these diagnostic checks on the vehicle turns up other suggested repairs/services to pad the bill a little more, this is what happen. Besides the initial repair, I was informed that my car needed to have belt replaced, brakes adjusted and a oil change. When I requested a quote on those repair, I felt that those prices were very inflated, so I only opted for the initial repair, and to have the belt replaced, and because the SUV is 16yrs old, and still had the original brake fluid, I wanted to have the service of replacing the old oil with new, and that's where my issues with this shop began. They called me to tell me that the vehicle was repaired, and ready for pickup. Paid the bill what I felt was inflated, did not make an issue because I was happy to get this problem resolved, was informed that the test drive that was done after repairs confirmed that a brake adjustments is recommended because of brake pedal traveling. My wife drove the car home, and a couple days later I took the SUV to a shop that had a more reasonable shop hour price ro have brakes adjusted, I dropped the vehicle off, and 15 minutes later I get a call from the mechanic from the shop that there is air in the brake lines, I said that's hard to believe because I just paid over $260 bucks to have that servicing done, he said that he doesn't know what to tell me, but he's a 100% sure that there is air in my lines and they charge $139 to fix the problem. So I took my car back to Monkey Wrenches, because why should I have to pay twice for work that should have been done right the first time! O.K. now I'm definitely irritated, I admit it. I again spoke to the owner Ted, I asked him a direct question with a "Tone" in my voice, "what is the shop hour rate here"? Because it isn't posted anywhere for a customer to view, Ted replies, " depends on the job"! It's been my experience that the majority of respectable Auto Repair facilities charge between $70 to $100dlrs an hour, but this shop charges a premium $130! minus, but lacking the premium service. So after back and forth with Ted trying to convince me that my vehicle only needed an adjustment, he tells me as a courtesy he will again bleed my brakes lines a second time. So after approximately 3hrs later, I pick up the car, and low and behold, no more spongy brake pedal, now the brakes are safe again. It's funny that his inexperienced mechanics couldn't detect this obvious break issue that put my wife at risk, knowing that the just worked on the brake system, taking it on a test drive, you would think that they would be able detect their screw up, and not put the customer at risk, never once admitting that his technician screwed up, I find that this guys arrogance so unprofessional. So as you read this post, I was generous giving this place a 3 star rating, should only 2, but since it's been 700 miles and the light hasn't come back on, or the belt hasn't slipped off, I guess that this place did something right. So in summary, if you like alot a lip service if you decide to drop your vehicle off, and Ted starts to give you a bunch of information to reel you in, be aware, he has to get paid too, and he will tack his "I'm going to grease you speach" onto your bill. You might want to look around at other shops to compare prices, if you do, you'll most likely save a bundle. read more

We struggled with our check engine light and rough idle for months. No one could find the issues with the many codes that kept recurring. We had been to 3 garages where we our service was rushed and haphazard and ended with them just resetting the light and telling us to come back if it happened again. Monkey Wrenches took their time to diagnose and fix the issues with our 02 sensor and other leaking hoses. Mike was thorough, professional and attentive to all my questions. My wife and I took my 99 4Runner in because the brakes were acting funny and we wanted it inspected. I didn't think I had anything to worry about because I'm a Christian and my understanding was that this was a Christian shop. Michael was the man that helped us. He was so nice when he took our $200 to tell us we needed a $3000 brake job??? When I didn't take the bait he told my wife that the differential was going out also. When she went to pick it up he told her to only drive it home because of safety. He also gave her a card to donate it to the Knights of Columbus because it was a lost cause if we didn't do the work. Do they get a kick back? I took it to another shop for the same exact thing and guess what they said........ I had some gunk in the rear brakes that was causing it to slip. They cleaned it out and didn't even charge me. They just told me to come back in about 5000 miles because I'll need front brakes by then. My 4Runner has been fine ever since. STAY AWAY!!! Very nice people. They give you a ride home and back during auto repair. Owner's son serves in the Marine Corps and I served for 28 years so we had something to talk about. I brought my car in several months ago because I had a new radio installed at Fry's Electronics. The car battery kept dying and my door locks were not locking and unlocking properly. I changed the battery in my fob but no luck.I had brought the car back to Frys twice but they could not figure out the parasitic draw. I even replaced the battery after the Auto Zone said it was fine. At Monkey Wrenches, they replaced an electronic unit that cost $1500 to repair. Several days later, the locks were not functioning properly again., I brought the car back to get it checked again because they said if I had problems, bring it back. They told me they would charge me again to diagnose the problem again. I told them they just fixed the problem within a couple of weeks. They told me they would give me a discount the next time I came in. I paid over $300 again for them to tell me I would need to pay another $1,500 to repair the problem. I got the car fixed at another shop for a little over $450. The problem was solenoids. Go figure!!! Simple diagnose and fix. RIP OFF big time!!! I was told the electrical guy was good, obviously not that good!!! I did not mind the first diagnostics for over $300, but the second over $300, totally unsatisfactorily. I am a 100% disabled veterans and I was so upset I had to leave quickly before I exploded. Stay away from this business!!!!!! read more

Monkey Wrenches is the most honest and helpful auto shop I've ever had the pleasure of doing business with. My boyfriend and I came in with an '04 BMW that we had just gotten less than an a month prior to our visit with Monkey Wrenches. We noticed problems with the car and brought it in for a check engine light inspection. A couple hours later, these guys told us what problems they noticed, and that the biggest issue was a code that only a BMW dealership can open up and fix. Because they themselves would not be able to fix the issue, they waived the $150 inspection fee. They felt that because they couldn't completely help us, they weren't going to charge us. This company took the time to check our car, write up a full report to give to BMW, and then say they didn't help us. This is the most genuine, honest company I've worked with. I will definitely continue to come here with any and every vehicle I have. I trust them to give me honest feedback and appreciate their main goal which is good, honest service.
