Went to Monk's when I was in the town for a work trip. It was a late evening on a weekday and most places were closed. I ordered Mahi Mahi bowl and it was actually pretty tasty. Generous portions and quick service. Seated at the bar and was reminded of a small town atmosphere.

Came here with a group as it was a good central meeting spot and one person in our party wanted somewhere with wings. I was super excited to see a traditional Old Fashioned on the menu and had to order that. While it wasn't my favorite, I still love being able to order it and I drank it all over the course of our meal. We had friendly service and they were very accommodating of our needing to switch tables as our group grew larger than initially reported. I ordered the California Chicken sandwich and it was very delicious -- well made and the chicken was juicy and nicely cooked. Great french fries too - no condiments required for these! My buddy who ordered the wings stated that they were fantastic, too.

Food is great and is always a hit. The food looks good, tastes good, and lots of options compared to other places. Service is excellent as well and I have never had a problem with the timeliness. They are always happy to see us! Ambiance is similar to a sports bar, but the table sit down area is more family friendly. So fun for everyone!

We're in town for Coldplay and made a wrong turn, but we wound up at Monks! Lunch here was fantastic. I got the special cotton candy shake, a double cheeseburger with cheese curds, and we split an order of the fried mozzerella. The cheese curds were some of the best I've ever had.

I was there for dinner on a Thursday evening. The place had good vibes. People were enjoying trivia. Reese's peanut butter pie was my favorite item here. Black and blue burger was a good burger as well. Sweet chili cauliflower bites was almost good, but flavor was off. Banana shake was ok, quantity was a lot less. Santa Fe wrap was ok. Flavor of cilantro rice bowl was totally off.

This place was yummy. Visiting from out of town. Stopped here for a quick bite. They have a sign that says immediate seating outside so that was nice, we were sat right away. The cheese curds were good but greasy when you bit into them. I got an iced tea but it was burnt so sent back and asked for water. Curds came out fast and so did our food. I was so hungry I forgot to take a pic of my Gouda burger which was really good, but also very greasy. The house chips are amazing and I got a side of the French onion dip which I wanted to lick the cup clean over. Overall, food was very good just greasy. Waitress was nice and it was pretty quiet for a Saturday night.

Monks is our go to spot when we're craving bar food or a cheap Friday old fashioned! It's a great place to watch a game, eat good food, and enjoy some good drinks. We love their wraps, sweet chili cauliflower bites, burgers, wings, and cheese curds! The Friday $5 Old Fashioned night is my favorite. We always have food service and enjoy the bites and brews. The staff is friendly and quick. They have a great patio for the summer with an outdoor bar and fire pit as well. Overall, a classic Wisconsin bar!

Absolutely horrible tasting food which is saying a lot since the bar is already low in Wisconsin. I ordered the deluxe nachos and was pretty impressed at how bad tasting an establishment can butcher an item so incredibly easy to make. As pictured: I added ground beef and guacamole which were both additional charges. What I got was a sundry of chips with a scarce amount of meat and other toppings. I will never waste my time coming back here.

    Sex on the beach.

Great food, and Niko makes the best sex on the beaches! Service was fast, friendly and really good! Very happy with my service tonight :))

The food is okay. Mostly everything on the menu is deep fried or greasy. The service was very slow and emotionless. Didn't see the waiter very much. The ambiance is a sports bar environment, which I could imagine would be much more fun during seasons where sports are taking place. This place is average but I would recommend for a quick bite to eat if you are in the area.

Mahi-Mahi Rice Bowl was terrible. The Mahi Mahi was fishy, overcooked, dry, & tough.

This bar keeps patrons busy hosting several weekly events like pool leagues/tournaments, dart leagues, trivia nights, and more! My husband and I love their food! They mostly serve burgers, chicken wings, salads, and have great seafood options for their traditional Fish Fry Fridays! I love ordering their crispy fried chicken wings and always request them to be topped with their delicious irresistible Cajun seasoning which gives the wings a nice extra kick that is really satisfying! My husband and I enjoy many menu items such as the boneless wings, fried shrimp, and their sandwiches. I was also pleasantly surprised at how amazing their salads are. Their salads were a good portion size and fresh! It seemed to be a diverse crowd of neighborhood locals, blue collar, younger folks, and just people having a great time! It's a great place when you are craving greasy, fried, delicious bar food, and snacks! They serve not only burgers, but cheese curds, wings, and lighter far like salads. They need a round of applause for coming up with some of the tastiest unique burger creations ever such as their Poker Ho Burger, Lotza Motza Burger, and Players Burger. My husband and I were blown away by the burgers! My favorite is their Big Daddy Burger with a side of onion rings and my husband's favorite is their Lotza Motza Burger with fries! The Big Daddy Burger is made with Bacon, Ham, Swiss & American Cheese with spicy garlic mayo. It is served hot, made fresh, juicy, made with a huge 1/2 pound well seasoned patty! The immediate area, which is downtown Sun Prairie was super cool and cute. Lots of shared spaces and mixed use buildings that included the building Nitty Gritty sits in. There are a few Nitty Gritty's scattered across the Madison area, but my buddy recommended this location due to convenience. We popped in on night 2 of the NFL draft, which is why we bellied up to a high top in the bar area. Nitty Gritty is more sports bar than anything, but if the bar is not your scene, they have several dining spaces inside and out. We started with a couple of beers and cocktails, and while we reviewed the dedicated "birthday shot book", we decided to stick with standard drinks...but the birthday shot thing is apparently a big deal here! My buddy went local beer from the tap and I went gin & tonic. Bad call on my part, as even though that is a basic cocktail, this is not a cocktail bar. The drink was not good, so second round I went Spotted Cow as well. All was right in the world in that moment. For food, we went quintessential bar food with wings and burgers. My buddy got the Smokehouse Burger, which is their house-bbq burger served on Texas toast. He sided it with the fries and noted that both were decent, not great, but also not terrible. Both lacked seasoning, especially the burger patty itself. I opted for the wings, black and blue dry rub to be specific. The wings were good size and fried well, very crispy and meaty for a wing. The seasoning, while present, was not very flavorful. I expected a bit more from a Cajun based rub. Food wise, it was just okay. Service was a hit and miss throughout the evening. While the place was not busy, the service was a bit slow for the amount of staff we noticed. We waited on refills and re-orders a bit longer than normal, especially sitting the bar area. This location has been here for a while and it shows in parts of the building interior and exterior. While conditionally certain areas need some love, the spaces were all clean and well kept. Overall, Nitty Gritty was okay. Seemed like your standard local sports bar with mid-level food and service. With that being said, I may be interested in spending time here for a birthday given that shot book!
