I love this place! Lots of fitness classes, swimming and open gym. It is unpretentious compared to other gyms in the area. It is a beautiful, clean facility that appeals to families. There's a very nice outdoor water park with slides, lazy river, simulated surfing area. A park surrounds it with trails and a very nice splash park and playground for little ones. You can purchase a monthly pass or pay by the day. We're lucky and access is part of our Lilly benefits. We can also go to LA Fitness but I much prefer this center. read more

Monon Community Center - Gyms Near Me - Carmel, Indiana

This Community Center is not a Community Center. It is not open to all, normally a prerequisite to being a Community Center. It is a private health club where you have to pay a fee. In Indianapolis you do not have to pay a fee to go inside a Community Center, join in a pick-up game of basketball, use the restrooms, watch a class to see if you like it, even take a free class, etc. And the classes that cost are all reasonably priced. In Carmel, you evidently have to pay a fee just to get past the front desk. It is not open to the community. They wouldn't even let me use their restroom. Their disabled parking spots are in the front, but the farthest from the front door. Go figure. Plus, there are not enough disabled parking spots. The rest of the regular parking spots were almost full too, only having free spots at the far end. If you are looking for your car, and you realize you've parked in the next row, there are no sidewalks or paths between rows to get you to the right row. There is a steep ravine filled with reeds and mud. If you're disabled and in pain after your walk, a path is a must. It's just a common courtesy for everyone, to make it easy to get to your car from one row over. Even Walmart has it easier to get from row to row in the parking lot than the Carmel Community Center. My wife and I have been members here for years and its incredibly sad to see the state of this place. If you are thinking about joining I would disregard any positive reviews left here before COVID because this place has changed dramatically and has not recovered. If you are here just for the summer the water park is fine but if you are looking for a year round membership there are better options. The gym is incredibly crowded and there are not enough weight machines to go around, they are obsessed with adding more treadmills but 70% of the gym is treadmills and they are never even close at full capacity. If you like to use weights you will be waiting 5+ minutes to get on a machine - if it even is in order. There are several machines that as of this writing that have been out of order for almost a month. Very sad and embarrassing that this community center represents our city. read more

The Monon Center has a lot to offer. I particularly appreciate their effort to have adaptive classes to engage individuals with disabilities. They offer sensory days at the pool and many exercises classes created or adapted for all levels of abilities. I have only been to the fitness center a handful of times, but the staff has been friendly and helpful on each visit. The water park: A step above and beyond your neighborhood pool. The layout of the pool is easy to navigate with restrooms on your right upon entering and all of the attractions beyond that. Lifeguards seem professional and everything is very clean. They offer something for everyone, even if you can't swim well (or at all). There's a toddler splash zone that is fenced in (hallelujah for the mom's of darting 2-year-olds), a bigger kid splash area equipped with a small slide and a bucket dump, a lap area, lazy river, 3 slides, wave rider and aqua rock climbing. If none of that tickles your fancy, maybe you can rent a cabana, or bring in a picnic. The concessions seemed very reasonable as well ($1.25 for popcorn). Tip- come after 4 for half priced tickets. read more

This review is specifically for the water park. Our little one loved the water park! This isn't just a pool, they have a great variety of water areas, a kiddie splash pad enclosed for those under 48", a lazy river, a massive toddler/big kids playground, a pool, wave runner, water slide and more. Staff is amazing here. From the lifeguards, the janitorial service, ticket workers everyone is super friendly. I appreciate how well behave folks are here and attentive as it can be a bit overwhelming to see so many kids and so much water and activity but it's a great time. Come prepared as there is not much shade to lay under if it's a hot sunny day. Overall we really enjoyed it and look forward to coming back! Terrible customer service. Brought my brother and his friends to get day passes. I purchased the tickets then they told me 1 of the twins was missing his waiver. I understood so I asked them to please refund my tickets since I couldn't get the waiver signed. A woman told me "we do not do refunds" and refused to help me. Her attitude was rude and she pushed me off. Once I asked to speak to a supervisor she said she couldn't get someone to help me because they were busy. After I asked multiple times how we could make this right she finally begrudgingly wrote up a few day passes that I could use to come back. Unfortunately, I do not want to come back. None of this would've been a problem except her attitude and the way she treated me was very rude. I hope the rest of the staff treats customers with respect. read more

However, parking is kind of annoying and the family locker rooms that we use to get ready before and after our childrens swim classes is always so cold. The pool water is also pretty cool. The check-in process for community members to use the track has become overly bureaucratic and inconvenient.

I paid $70 to rent a cabana for a day. Not only did I have to pay admission to get in on top of that, the cabana was DISGUSTING! Bird poop every where, mulch every where and dirty dirty dirty surfaces. We asked for assistance three times and finally had to tell them we are moving cabanas without permission if they didn't fix it. Two of them came and KIND of cleaned it, but I was expecting more than that for the $120 I spent today and the hours I spent in the cabana before anyone would help. Won't be returning. read more

First of all, The Monon Center is more than a gym..and that is why we are fans. Here you'll find the standard indoor fitness center fare: weights, cardio machines, group classes, running track, basketball courts, etc. But, the Monon is nestled in a park, which makes it rather unique among fitness facilities. The complex also includes meeting rooms, an indoor and outdoor pool and outdoor water park, skate park, gardens, and walking/jogging trail that winds through the park and around a fishing pond and wetlands. Monon is also close, as evidenced by its name, to the Monon Trail or Greenway, whichever you choose to call it. The fees at Monon are reasonable and the facilities clean and functional. Apparently, much thought was given to the esthetic of the building in terms of keeping it as "green" as possible. Think bamboo flooring, native landscaping and such. A family-friendly fitness center/park if ever there was one! Also holds various special events and recreation classes throughout the year. read more

The Monon Center is in my opinion, the best thing Carmel has to offer. After moving here from southern California in 2007, I was stunned by how different life was. I felt like there was nothing to do from the months of November til April, or May, whenever Indiana stops being so darn cold. I found the Monon Center and everything changed. No need to go into gory details :-) They offer an outdoor aqua park, with lazy river and slides, kiddie pool and playground, huge sandbox, etc. An indoor, heated pool...kiddie and adult lap pool. You can walk the indoor track year round. You can go to group fitness classes (everything from turbo kick to spinning) or you could sweat it out in the fitness center on your own. They offer a wide range of recreational activities for young and old. In the nicer months you could go for a jog on the Monon Trail that splits this place, or take a walk/jog, maybe feed some ducks near the "pond" and many paths. I have heard people say that they thought the Monon Center was private, and it IS NOT! I recommend this place to anyone and everyone. read more

This review is only intended for the water park. That said, it was great. I went on the 7/4 holiday weekend with a team of 6 adults and I must say it was still enjoyable. The lazy river was a bit more crowded than you usually see (from what I remember as a child at water parks) but not suffocatingly so. There were slide options with diving boards a small child area. This would be a great place to take your family. Admission was $8 for adults and I want to say $6 for kids but there is a yearly pass option as well. I don't believe you can bring in outside food and drink but the concession stand is not overly expensive (1-6 dollar range per item). The line for concessions was terribly long but I have a sneaky suspicion the park was crowded due to the holiday and not generally that populated. A friend described the place as a "child's summertime mecca". That explains it really well. For adults, good for a group activity probably not great for a relaxing time alone soaking up sun. Really good option for an Indy (all ages/group) summer activity since beaches are scarce (if any). read more

I love the Monon Community Center. Most people go there for the sprawling outdoor waterpark, but I became a member to use the fitness center and take advantage of the classes. Fitness Center: Lots of machines! Holy crap there is a lot of space in this place. I very rarely have to wait for a machine, and when I do its because I want to use the elliptical right after work. There are always a ton of people there but it never feels crowded. There is also a large selection of unconventional cardio machines that really make working out fun. The locker rooms are great with full height wood lockers, carpeted floors, and electronic locks. I only have problems finding a locker after work in January, but later in the year there is no problem finding space. There are also good showers and a sauna available! Fitness Classes: There is a huge selection of classes, but unfortunately most of the fun ones tend to be scheduled for the stay-at-home parent types. There are a few great classes available for us office drones, but not any of the new and hip barre or yoga classes. The classes I have taken are great, I just wish there was a better selection. Overall, the price is great in comparison to your standard gym (LA Fitness and the like) and you really get a good value. The pass includes admission to the large water park, any classes, and the fitness center. It's definitely worth it for any Carmelite. read more

We had a free afternoon while visiting family and we decided to check out Monon's water park. We are from Orlando, so we have our fair share, but this place was really cool! Plenty of chairs around all their pools and slides and they let you bring your own food if you wish. We spent about 2 hours here, just enough time to tire out the kids. I attended a drop-in yoga class at the Monon for $8 and I thought it was a great gym class. The instructor was very informative for each flow that was coming up and made sure to show corrections to the class. I liked how easy it was to just come and pay for any class outside of having a membership. The Monon offers so many options and is truly a gem in this community. My one issue which they can't really help but it was very distracting having a loud class happening simultaneously next to our studio. Anxious to try the other classes! read more

Awesome spot for toddlers. After being turned away at JCC for not having a membership, I went here. They open at 11am Saturdays and there was a line at 10:35. My 16 month old and I spent time in the water area to the left and I didn't notice there was an even smaller toddler pool to your right until we left. We've had our membership at the Monon Center for several years now, and we absolutely love it. Great location, huge building, lots of outdoor trails, indoor pool, water park, skate park, right on the Monon. Doesn't get better. The membership dues are also REALLY reasonable. We spend most of our time upstairs in the gym with the machines and the free weights. Sometimes it gets a little crowded with all the Carmel High School kids, but they're never in the way. Everyone does a really great job at keeping everything really clean (staff and patrons alike). The locker rooms are also huge and very clean. The gym itself has an ever-changing crowd, which was really important to me (who doesn't have a few insecurities at the gym?). There are happy people of all shapes and sizes. :) One great thing about the center is the free indoor track! Even before we had a membership, we'd come and run on the track when it was cold or rainy outside. They also offer a ton of classes for all ages which are really great. And they have a bunch of personal trainers on staff. There's so much good to mention. You just gotta check it out. read more

My teenagers and I came to Indianapolis for an NBA game and were looking for something fun to do. I found this place on Google, and boy were we pleasantly surprised. It was a quick 30 minute drive, but there is a great indoor water park/pool. It's not amusement park size, but it is big enough to splash around in. There are two decent slides for older kids, small features for little kids, and a separate lap pool. There are lifeguards everywhere which is great. Also has a decent snack bar (nachos, popcorn, sodas, etc.). The one day price was great, too. Very affordable for a couple of hours of fun. I would recommend it for sure!! read more

The Monon Center gets better every year! A new climbing wall in the pool this summer. I love the cycling classes and if you are ever interested in 'trying' a new exercise I highly recommend the 'intro to' options. The cycling was great because I was able to try without cycling shoes and then decided to buy a new pair and try with. Paul was really nice and took time to help me set up the bike without feeling like I was disrupting a class. Very clean and always friendly staff. Loved Miss Ann for the 3 year old swim lessons. She was great with the kids and had loads of patience for the little swimmers. read more

Just purchased a family membership to kick off 2018. My wife took our 2 daughters (9 and 12) without me this Saturday and tried something different than the kids pool- taking them for a walk on the indoor track. They were rudely approached by an old man telling them "they are too young to be out here!" My humiliated wife went to the front desk to inquire if this was accurate. Apparently it is. Thanks for telling us there is absolutely nothing our 9 year old can do outside of the pool and child care. As an avid swimmer, my gripe with most lap swim pools is the limited time availability and/or limited lane space. This can be a deal breaker in my decision to use a fitness center for someone like me, a 9 to 5er. Monon Community Center exceeded my expectations - their lap swim hours span the entire day and at least (from my experience) 4 lanes are open at all times. Woohoo! Now I can work with that. I can't speak to their outdoor water park, but I have checked out their basketball court and gym upstairs. It has an overall modern layout with plenty of machines. If you can visit during one of the night adults-only events (Monon Mixers), DO IT. I haven't been when the kids are present, but this nighttime event was AWESOME. They have live music, food vendors, corn hole, etc. in addition to the HUGE water park. It was a bit chilly when we were there, so we only did a few rounds in the lazy river. I really look forward to visiting again on a hot day. Tip: get a cabana if you can. It's worth it! They have comfortable chairs for your group, a little privacy, and a stainless steel cart where you can unload your food and drinks. It's great! Getting there was a bit tricky for me. Just remember you're looking for what looks like a sail on a boat. That's the entrance. Food prices for the permanent vendor looked really reasonable. Overall: two thumbs up! read more

I would give it five stars except for a few exceptions. The upholstered chairs and couches are filthy. Invest in a upholstery cleaner people! You certainly charge enough to afford one. I need to go have a biohazard bath now You do have great programs and setup. The prices are decent comparatively. But when you cancel or postpone a program you do not call the people enrolled. We have to call you instead. That's annoying because we will call an hour before and you say it's on and we get there just to learn it was canceled ten minutes before it was suppose to start. read more

The Monon center is a very nice community center with lots of options for exercising. It is nestled right in the heart of the Monon trail and right in the thick of a lot of people running, biking and getting their fitness needs taken care of. It is a membership based community center with several options: swimming, gym workouts, basketball courts, etc. The upside to the center is that they have an indoor track that they offer free to the community. Good to use in the winter or on really hot days when exercising outside isn't bearable. Overall good place and in a good location. I'm not sure if the membership prices are reasonable but the facility is very nice. read more

Having just moved to IN from CA I'm so excited we found this place! Brought my 19 month old and she had a blast. Best part, children under 3 are free! Adults are $10 before 4pm, 4pm and later it's $4. You are allowed to bring in outside food and drink except bottles are not allowed and for good reason. It starts getting busy around 2pm. Plenty of activities for children and adults and this community center is very clean! I appreciate how many lifeguards they have on staff, reassuring for parents with little ones. I've been a member for a few years and have never had any issues with the facility. Great staff, great clientele, and everyone is respectful of each other. Fairly priced membership with the added benefits aside from just using the gym. Clean facility, I've always had a great workout every time I go. I would LOVE a third rower since that's typically the only machine I have to wait for, but I know space is limited. I have been a member at several previous gyms and this one surpasses the rest by far. I did see several reviews criticizing the far walk from the parking lot to the gym, but I actually appreciate the longer walk; isn't that why most of us are there, to exercise? Had a great time at the Waterpark from 4pm - 7pm. Enjoyed the discounted rate of $4 per person. The lax river was great. Only thing I didn't like was the employees require you to stay in your tube inside the lazy river. My kids wanted to swim in the lazy river and/or play around in the lazy river. I get it, it's a "lazy river". The FlowRider was awesome. Really enjoyed it on the boogey board. Their slides were fun too. Only thing we didn't like was their height requirement for pretty much all their rides, which was 48". Thought that was way too aggressive for the rides but their rules. The pool was heated a little bit, so the kids enjoyed it. They have a nice selection of food and treats for purchase. All in all, we had a good time and will come back. read more

Awesome no-pressure gym! They have a variety of classes offered for different skill levels and interests. There is a indoor lap pool, waterslides, track, and three basketball courts. There are no starting fees and you can freeze or cancel membership at anytime. Membership also gets you into the waterpark in the summer. You really can't beat this deal compared to other franchises of gyms in the area. Personal training is offered but there is no one trying to upsell you on doing this. I understand that a Sunday in the summer will be busy - but there are a lot of things the park could have done better. If the cabanas were reasonably priced, it would have alleviated the lack of chairs. The concession stand was out of Water, Hotdogs, Burgers, Nachos, and Pretzels. (this left corn dogs and walking tacos as the only non-frozen option) and this was only 1 hr after the park had opened. The largest pool was shut down for no apparent reason for over 2 hours. Park seemed extremely disorganized. Not worth the $10 admission. Go to Plainfield or Kokomo, worth the drive. read more

This review is for the Monon Water Park. Fun for all ages, the Monon Water Park has a fenced off, shallow pool area for toddlers that features a small slide and some fountain features. For older children, a larger pool area boasts a splash zone with fountains and small slides that filters into the larger, deeper pool area. The park also features a lazy river, two large water slides, one steep water slide area, and a wave pool. There are plenty of lounge chairs located throughout the park in case you want to sit back and relax. You can also rent one of their plush cabanas if you plan on staying there all day. Beverages and food are located at the entrance to the park, and lockers/shower area is located in the Monon Center. A good tip to remember is that after 5pm, the entrance fee decreases. read more
