Be very aware of the bouncers they pick and choose who they want in and out of the club despite the dress code. I was dressed in business casual attire with slacks and I guess the bouncer didn't like me or my leather shoes and said I couldn't come in. While we were going back and forth on why I couldn't go in he let his buddy in the club that was wearing a graphic t-shirt with jeans on through the reservation line. I got the memo, dude just had a big ego and didn't want to let me in because of a personal reason. You could be wearing Bruno Cucinelli and a nice pair of slacks with common project shoes on and if the bouncer just doesn't "like you" they will just come up with a BS excuse as to why they won't let you in. We recently had our wedding event here and only have great things to say about Monroe, and Payam the owner. From the start, we wanted to do something different from the traditional wedding, so opted to do a friend-focused club night - where the focus was on great people, great music, and plentiful drinks. We knew Monroe was the perfect location after also looking at about 10 other event spaces in San Francisco. The space is ready-set for an event like this - the decor, lounge style seating, outdoor patio, two bars, coat check, weekly refreshed florals, sound system, and more were all perfect. We didn't have to bring in any decorations ourselves, other than a few small "stations" that we set up for guests (e.g. polaroid station). We booked our June 2020 event in Nov 2019, and then...COVID. We ended up rescheduling to May 2021, then finally to Nov 2021. Payam was incredibly supportive, flexible, and helpful throughout the entire process and delays. He absolutely went above and beyond what they were required to do with rescheduling, and we continually found ourselves commenting how kind, accommodating, and positive Payam was throughout the process of rescheduling multiple times. We owe him a huge thank you for reducing a huge part of the stress of planning a wedding during COVID. The event itself went off completely smoothly and without a hitch. We were able to get to the venue an hour prior to do a quick "modified ceremony" practice, snap some photos while the space was still empty, and then get a drink before guests started arriving. DJ Mackswell (works with Monroe regularly) helped us keep the dance floor going. Monroe's staff helped ensure the drinks flowed. We even had an assigned event coordinator who was there the entire event. Overall, an incredible night to remember, and we've gotten many comments from friends that they loved both the different approach as well as Monroe as a venue. Would highly recommend working with Monroe and Payam for a wedding, or any other private event. Monroe is also a blast on Friday and Saturday nights when it's open to the public and we'll be becoming regulars now that they're open again post-COVID. read more

I've not been to tooo many clubs in the city but a lot of them are super stuffy and hard to get into - Monroe was a breath of fresh air since it didn't have a line when we went at 11 pm on a Saturday and cover wasn't horrible - 5 for girls 10 for guys. The inside is well ventilated and they have a nice outdoor covered patio if you want to rest and the area is classy looking and good for younger adults since the music targets 21-25 year olds for sure. Cool club worth visiting if you're in SF. It's nearby a number of restaurants that are open late (across a pizza place and a fried chicken place). There was a line getting into the club around 11 PM on a Thursday. It was a bit too crowded for my taste, but I guess that's what happens when everyone wants to visit this club. The DJ played songs from different decades so there was a bit of variety in the vibes for the night. Free coat check in the basement of the club which is pretty nice! This club is hit or miss. Definitely not a place to go Friday night or Saturday - the douche is high! They also do bottle service which is a big red flag for women who want to meet cute men. Bottle service means guys with money and very unattractive men. The after hours can be good if the right people come but I ran into a bunch of jocks and undercover cops in crew cute who looked like they were ready to go to the baseball game (yuk!) I don't know why but the guys at the after hours are all on the highly macho cologne and Chonky side (all Lift no cutting) so don't go here as a woman if you're looking for anyone fit. But when it's good it's good and there's lots of cities here! Be prepared to walk in and walk out immediately if you see a lot of baseball caps and smell the cologne ... read more

This place was okay. We arrived and the lines were very long and the place was packed. One of the bouncers was pretty rude and not very helpful... we had a reservation for the night and he just said we weren't on the list and told us to just get in line. Not much later a different person came by and helped us right away and we were able to get in. This is one of my favorites to come to on a Friday night. If you come on Fridays they have well drinks starting for $1 at 5pm and going up by a dollar every hour until reaching the ceiling of $6 by 10pm. The drinks aren't watered down either. They also play different decades music each hour. They have a bar near the entrance and a dance floor towards the back. It's a relatively small venue but I kind of like that as it makes for a nice party environment. I also came here for a work holiday party and it makes for a greay venue. We had food placed by the sides of the dance floor, coat check was in a little room downstairs, and we used the back room (which I never knew existed) as a photobooth. I've also tried their moscow mule, amf, and sex on the beach. I typically don't like moscow mules since I don't like the taste of ginger, but theirs was sweeter and the ginger was more subtle. Their amf was very strong but a bit too sweet than I would have liked it. And the sex on the beach tasted very different than any other...it was a lot more sour than most places and it was tinted red. read more

We went here for a silent clubbing party. We reached early, around 10 pm when the party was just getting started. We picked up our earphones and glow in the dark gear, it was a really fun and different experience. All the 3 channels are good and were playing nice tracks. The party was on till 2 am and the only drawback was that the staff in the bar was walking around constantly which was disturbing us from dancing in our group. This happened almost 4-5 times when they were moving furniture or themselves walking around in the crowd. I understand that they were bouncers and looking out for us, but it was way too frequent and disturbing. The club was getting a little hot, so we moved to the bar area which led to a patio which has some sitting. That was pretty nice as we could rest our feet for some time there, get some fresh air and then return to dancing. The silent clubbing concept was pretty good, you can dance to the music and still have your conversations without yelling into each other's ears. Will definitely go to this club again for a future silent disco event. The bottle service was also around $300 which included a bottle of vodka and mixes, including the tax and service fees, pretty decent for a group of 8 people or less. The club location is really great in the sense that you can have a nice dinner in one of the italian restaurants on the street and head to the club, also, after the party there is a pizza place right opposite to the club where you can have a midnight snack :) read more

If I could give this place a negative review, I would. It's Friday, St. Patrick's Day and it's crowded in this place and the wait is 20+ minutes which is WAY too much. We get inside after 40 minutes and it's crowded and hot and men are grabbing on me, and it's gross. Then my sister gets approached by a lady who works at the club and is EXTREMELY rude!! She is racist and nasty and called my sister a racial slur which I would not like to repeat because it made us EXTREMELY uncomfortable. I will never come back here. The people at the front were so focused on letting people in who had "reservations" but when I approached those people they did NOT have reservations. Everything was unorganized and the people who work here are VERY nasty. Go to Bamboo Hut instead, the workers and kind and sweet and the music is way better! read more

Let me tell you, the place was only half full and the place felt like I was at my 24 hour fitness Suana The service is horrible here as well, they don't even poor your drinks for you. You have to ask for cups and shot glasses, and not to mention contantly remind the host to bring you more glasses, shot glasses, napkins and chasers. Came here to celebrate its one-year Anniversary along with a friend's fashion launch party. I arrived early to savor the complimentary treats i.e., drink samples, sushi, etc. I wouldn't come to this part of town for the clubs/lounges if it wasn't to celebrate a friend's party. It's classier than the others down the street. This spot has changed its name several times. Broadway is just too ghetto! The interior is chic and the comfy couches are a nice touch. As it got closer to "club hour", I had to leave, the crowd was getting younger and more rowdy. The staff were super friendly and on top of their game. Inside and outside are two different stories. I'm not the first to notice that, and while I'm not bagging on the exterior -- it's fine, if a little plain -- the interior is just pretty distinctive so the disconnect is obvious. I was here for a private event, so I can't really testify to what you might find on a regular night, and even if I had come on a regular night I don't think I'm the best judge of some of their attributes: I'm not a drinker and though I can say the bar is long and prominent, I have no idea if they sling a good cocktail. What I can say, though, is that it's a memorable night. There's a long bar on the entrance, and then lots of booths near the back. You'll be tempted to call it retro, vintage, or art deco, but it also has a neon sign that says "Let's Get Physical" so it's kind of a hodge podge, with a little art deco sensibility. We had a karaoke night, and while I'm not the target audience for said activity in that crowd, I was glad there were places to sit and catch up with coworkers before we all flew out the next day. It was quite intimate for our group of about 120 people, but it had everything we could have asked for: -A bar with plenty of great options. -A room for a photobooth, which was actually on a patio and allowed for some fresh air. -A dance floor/b-boy performance stage. -A stage where much bad karaoke was peformed. If you're looking for an event space for similar features to that, you should definitely give the Monroe a call! Decades night at Monroe is always a blast, just make sure to not get here too early, otherwise there isn't much, or too late as there are way too many people. It's a good first stop, but since they stopped offering shots, drinks are pretty low in alcohol so take that into account, combined with the huge amounts of people it can be rough sometimes. read more

Came here on a Friday for Battle of the Decades and it was certainly a long, but fun night. I'd recommend getting there early while it's less crowded and drinks are super cheap (a good spot for post-work drinks!). The music is on the louder side, but you'll be able to grab some drinks while they're cheap and more importantly, get a stamp for later, if you want to return. We left around 7pm for a few hours to grab dinner, and by the time we returned, there was a pretty long line to get in, but thankfully we used our stamps to walk right in. The bar gets pretty crowded as the night goes on and the wait can get up to 45 min to get in, so earlier is better. For me, the peak music was the 90s and 00s from 8-10pm. Surprisingly, when it hit the 10s, the DJ played less recognizable songs and only a few hits here and there, which I thought was weird. It's definitely cramped on the dance floor, but everyone was there having a good time, so it wasn't anything unusual. read more

I'll say I love the concept of Battle of the Decades. 50's-60s music at 5pm, 70s at 6pm, 80s at 7pm, etc. Drink prices start at $1 at 5pm and increase by a dollar every hour until they get to normal prices (I think around 8pm, but don't quote me on that). The two things keeping it from reaching its full potential are the overcrowding and on the nights I went, what seems like an inexperienced DJ. I understand there's a lot of material to go through and not every song will be played all the way through. But, when the entire dance floor is going off on, "Tainted Love," ffs, don't cut it after the first chorus to seque into, "Fast Car," By Tracy Chapman. Also, there were a lot of moments of two songs that don't go together being played at the same time. While I appreciate the experimentation, it was hard to keep a groove during the more quicker moving song changes. Around 8pm, the sub is cranked to a point where it sounds like someone is blazing their car stereo over a song that you're trying to listen to. Finally, an hour of 80s and no Prince, 1 MJ song, 1 cut-short Madonna song? Blasphemy! Finally, the over-crowding. What is the point of eventbrite reservations when it gets to the point where you can't dance without hitting someone or being hit, constantly being pushed, etc.? At a certain point, it stops being enjoyable, imo. There should be a limit on how many people can enter. That said, this event is better than 95% of any other club events in the city. read more

Celebrated my birthday here on a Friday night. From my initial inquiry, all the way to the end of the night, everything was awesome. Sarah helped me out, and answered all the questions I had. It was super easy to book a table, and their prices are very reasonable!!!! The hosts of the night were awesome, and they always made sure everything was good.
