And the decor is creative, unique, and clearly well thought out, making it a fun spot to check out. The only downside is the pricing. The drinks and food are on the expensive side, for three drinks and an order of fries, our total came to over $70. Was very strong though even with the passion fruit and citrus cutting through lol Two Frogs cocktail ($11): Our waitress advertised this as refreshing and she was right! I didn't really taste the cilantro, but I liked the cucumber bitters :) Deviled eggs ($6): Quite sriracha forward which I didn't mind, we inhaled them! Tater tots ($5): A huge basket with ketchup and aioli, super worth it. Brisket slider ($5): Honestly, is anything $5 these days? I liked the sweet BBQ sauce and the brisket was tender. Regular menu: Shrimp tacos ($15 for 2) and Carnitas tacos ($12 for 3): We came to try the cocktails, but we ordered more food than expected and were surprised by how much we liked it! The tacos are freakin good yall. The shrimp tacos are pricey for $7.50 apiece so I probably wouldn't get again despite how good it was, but I'd get the carnitas tacos again! This place is a great and interesting venue to hangout . I was here because GearSet the British company was holding a happy hour with open bar and a food buffet. It was a treat to be inside the Alchemist because it's a little different from the surrounding bars in SOMA. You will see curated items throughout the venue. They have some interesting things inside .They had lots of wine , bourbon, and a mix of cocktails. They also had tasty fried chicken sliders and the honey truffle grilled cheese . So much fun!!! We went after the NFL Experience and were expecting it to be packed, it was 9-10pm-ish. Although it was busy (not packed), we were immediately greeted by a beautiful soul and smile, by the name of Christiana! There are 2 levels in the bar/restaurant, we sat at the top which is cool bc we could see the whole venue. This place has a nautical, rustic feel. I didn't notice if there was a DJ or not but the music was THUMPIIIIN (not all bass.. just fun! lol) They were still serving food at 10pm, although I am not sure if late night serving was due to the special event. The mac & cheese egg rolls were a little disappointing, only got two of them, cut in half to 4 pieces, more breading, fried to heck making them nearly too hard & crunchy to taste anything, and very little mac & cheese in the middle. The honey sauce that accompanied them was overly sweet and not a good balance of tastes, the egg rolls tasted better without the sauce. But the food was good, it hit the spot, and the portions were pretty big for just being bar bites. Alchemy is open late, until 2am, like most bars. It serves good bar food at fair prices, and with big portions. Service was excellent, fast, professional, friendly, and fun. The SF-local younger crowd really come here to party as I saw most of the well-dressed crowd doing tequila & whiskey shots all night long. The list/offering here are pretty small & limited, but the cocktail & spirits list is more expanded & diverse. I just stuck to beer & cider to wash down my heavy but delicious bar food. I was impressed by everyone that works here, especially the multi-tasking hostess/waitress/server/runner. Door guys even fun & playful as we exited, no attitude or aggression, unlike most door guys & security. The Alchemist is a great bar to cap off your long night exploring & partying in the city, or a perfect place to start your fun night. The security at this bar was beyond rude--like rude. We arrived around midnight (as I'm writing this review), and the bar wasn't even full. My group included a tech developer, a nurse, and a professor--hardly the kind of crowd causing trouble. When we got to the entrance, my boyfriend was handing over his ID, but the security guard wasn't paying attention. My boyfriend stepped toward the door to look inside while the rest of us stood waiting. Suddenly, the guard looked at him and yelled, accusing him of trying to sneak in. Seriously? My boyfriend sarcastically responded, "Yeah, I'm trying to sneak in--I'm 45." Instead of realizing how ridiculous that was, the security actually had the nerve to reply, "How am I supposed to know that?" After handing over his card, my boyfriend was then threatened by the security guard, who said, "Be careful." Excuse me? It's 2025--we're on the brink of war, the economy is a mess, and people are choosing to spend their money going out instead of just ordering DoorDash and drinking at home. And this is how paying customers are treated? Are you crazy? Here's the reality: people don't have to go out anymore. If this is how your security behaves when the bar isn't even full, I can only imagine what happens when it is. I get it--maybe this guy has no power anywhere else in life and saw this as his moment. But he picked the wrong audience to flex on. I've been to bars where the security is really, really nice - The Felix in tenderloin is super nice and knows how to do his job and deliver customer service and all their bartenders are nice and when we went there it was full. I do not write reviews often that consist of one star and normally I ignore businesses that elicit such a rating but I felt I needed to write about this establishment and how awful the vibe and most of the staff is: First of all the bartender Kenny with the kooky hats is rude as hell and is visibly rude to the servers and other staff there and as a person that works in the industry, I see that as a toxic work environment and I would never support such a place that turns a blind eye to this type of nasty behavior. Also the bar manager Ramon is not only just as rude but makes the worst rushed drinks I have ever tasted in my life. It doesn't matter if this place has interesting and unique cocktails if no one ever comes (this place has been empty the two times I've come here) people aren't blind to the environment you're freely showcasing here. I've had this place bookmarked for a while and finally got to go this past weekend. I was with a group of 4 and we were able to get seated right away on a Sat night. I loved how everything was decorated! It's a pretty spacious area with high ceilings. Our area had couches and individual chairs and our drinks were pretty good! I wish I remembered what drink I had. It was orange in a martini glass (pictured below) and the only thing I didn't like about were the red strings at the top bc they kept getting into my mouth as I would take a sip. I definitely really like the vibe of this place and I have been here twice but both the times I wasn't happy with my drinks. The service and ambience is on point. Our server was very sweet and she made sure we were having a good time. The bar itself is beautifully decorated and has a great space. They serve cocktails as well as food. The food served here is quite decent for the food a bar is serving. Coming to the drinks the presentation is really good but the drinks did not leave an impression for me. It looked like the Bartender made the drinks in a hurry and there were no flavours at all in the cocktails I tried. I would not come here unless they improve the quality of their cocktails. I really love Achemist but I am disappointed by the staff as of recent. I was there on 3/10 with a group of friends from work. We were the last ones there and pushed to leave. I had a small present for a friend of mine in a Banana Republic bag which I accidentally left on one of the sofas as we were leaving. I realized immediately after leaving and went back, but the club was already closed. I called and left a message (because there is no one who answers the phone it's an automated message and you can only leave a voicemail) I even returned the next day and spoke with the staff, but every single person claimed they had never seen the bag. We were the last guests there and the only people who had access to that sofa area after we left were the staff members closing up. There is simply no other explanation. Someone on the team took my bag, and now nobody wants to take responsibility. No offer to check cameras, no effort to investigate, no accountability whatsoever. I am fully convinced that my property was stolen by a member of staff. Think carefully before leaving any of your belongings unattended at this place. That said, I am more than happy to update this review if my gift is found and returned. read more

I love Alchemist! It's a lively bar with great food and cocktails. I've been here a couple times and am always fascinated by the decor and scenes they have projecting on the walls. When I came here last Saturday night it was pretty busy, but it was easy to make a reservation for a table through Yelp ahead of time to guarantee a spot.
