The interior is so gorgeous and I would highly recommend getting a reservation at the Lounge. We ordered the following: Asian Pear Salad: this was a light and refreshing start to dinner. The dressing was incredible. Crispy Vegetable Rolls: incredible!!! These were so well made and the dressing was great. Vegetable Fried Rice: so incredibly flavourful, and a perfect addition to any meal. Wokked Anderson Ranch Lamb: a little oily for my taste. Maybe skip next time? Steamed Alaskan Black Cod: beautifully made! Asian Eggplant: My favorite!!!! Definitely order this Banana Bread: go ahead and skip this option. The dessert here couldn't hold a candle to the entrees. How I heard of this place: A long time Seattle establishment, yet it's funny that the first opportunity I made to enjoy Monsoon was for a friend's birthday, at her invitation. Type of cuisine: Vietnamese fare with authentic flavors, served with Pacific Northwest flair and top notch presentation. Ambiance: A lovely setting with small patio and street views out of it's floor to ceiling windows, the space is dimly lit, warm and full of happy diners. Once inside, to the left is the 21+ bar area, with tables for those wishing to partake of a meal there. To the right and back, one meets the relatively small but cozy dining room, behind which the kitchen can be found. Tables and chairs, including booth-like seating are available. Our group of five was seated in a small corner where we could enjoy our evening, our conversations, and our meal with little distraction from others. Vibrant paintings on the walls, candles on the tables, and soft music above truly added to the atmosphere of the evening. What I ordered: Our group decided to share several selections family style. We ordered the Green Papaya Salad ($14) to start - Green papaya, Grilled prawn, mint, caramelized shallot, peanut. We followed that with two of the Bowl Catfish Claypot ($24 each) - Caramelized Idaho catfish claypot, fresh coconut juice, green onion. Served with pickled vegetables, cucumber, pineapple, steamed rice, and a soft boiled egg, Asian Eggplant ($15.50) - Asian eggplant, green onion, spicy coconut milk, shrimp sauce, and Wokked Soft Noodles ($17) - Wokked wheat noodles, king oyster mushroom, egg, green onion. For dessert, each ordering our own, we had three Banana Cakes with Savory Coconut Sauce ($8.50 each) and two Coconut Creme Caramel ($8.50 each). Food is great and very tasty. Great crunch in every bite. Great presentation and portions as well. The Bloody Mary alternative was the big hit for the family-including the pho broth that was added into this drink. I hear it's very good for hangovers. The ambiance was really nice and friendly. The kiddos enjoyed their pork buns as well as the shrimp dumplings. All in all, staff was great and attentive. The aftermath is quite expensive. $$$$ kind of meal for lunch but a memorable one. Parking is challenging just fyi...My favorite part of this whole experience is that they make an incredible sauces that go with the Vermicelli dishes. We had dinner here recently & it was excellent! We were there on a Friday, had a 7:00 reservation, & were seated immediately. Was a good thing, too, because the place was packed! Throughout our evening, the service was friendly & attentive, but did not hover. (The waitress was also happy to take a number of photos for us .) I had a lemon drop which was yummy... & strong. We got two appetizers: the short ribs (delicious but VERY messy and sticky... Thank goodness they provided hot damp washcloths!) & the imperial rolls. The rolls were good, but not particularly remarkable. One note on the rolls, though, they serve them with lettuce leaves, mint leaves, plus a couple other things, including sauce, and we were instructed how to roll them all up together. They definitely were more tasty with everything, especially the mint leaves, but it was kind of a lot of work for little reward. We then ordered two entrées: the curry prawns, which were very tasty and not overly spicy (the prawns were ginormous!), And the drunken chicken... Absolutely my favorite thing that we had that night and my husband agreed! Had a nice crunch and very, very tasty. We also ordered a small bowl of jasmine rice, which was very necessary, especially for the prawn dish. Lots of sauce! The small dish was plenty for the two of us. Monsoon has incredible food and service. We went in December 2023, and they indoor and outdoor (heated and covered) seating. Parking is limited because there are a lot of businesses, but we walked so it wasn't an issue. We ate outdoors and our server was so attentive. I was told this place serves very authentic Vietnamese food, but I am disappointed. Overpriced small portion food. They served their food like tapas- very small portions. I personally don't think it's a place for any party of more than 5 people to do family style, all the dishes here only have enough portion for only yourself and 1 dish is not enough at all. Catfish Claypot is great and tender but in a small (or mini) clay pot. The eggplant dish contains less than 10 pieces of a small eggplant. We ordered at least 8 or more different dishes since we have 6 people all together. We came on Saturday after 8pm, so the staff in the restaurant probably were busy at closing so they stopped caring us. We had to standup and grab somebody for our bill after waiting for 20 minutes. We ended up walking to the spot since it was close by, but seemed like parking nearby would be relatively easy to find. Ambience and decor was nice. Staff was friendly. We ordered the string beans, chicken wings, eggplant, pork chop and luc lac beef. Everything was so good (besides the string beans). They felt like they came from a Costco bag and didn't really get cooked much. Nonetheless, everything else was delicious. Wings and eggplant are a must order! Overall, we enjoyed our meal at Monsoon Seattle, which seemed to be located up in the hills section of Seattle and offers outdoor seating along the sidewalk. As a party of three, we ordered a few appetizers and entrees to share. All was tasty, Vietnamese-ish food, but none of the dishes wowed me. That said, service was friendly and solid and we appreciated the inquiry as to allergies tableside. For appetizers, we had the Bò Lá Lốt (marinated flank steak wrapped around la lot leaves and grilled), Tofu Fresh Rolls (tofu, roasted shiitake mushroom, beansprout, vermicelli noodle, peanut sauce), Crispy Vegetarian Rolls (taro, northwest tofu, carrot, woodear mushroom), and Spicy Green Beans (spicy green beans, hon shimeji mushroom, pickled radish, dark soy). The flavors here are good, but there wasn't very much meat/food in each dish, especially for the price. The luc lac beef tenderloin had maybe 6 pieces of beef cubes. The clay pot catfish only had two small pieces!! Since it's Viet food, we ordered dishes to share, and it really wasn't enough to even share between 2 people. Also, the last annoying thing is that they only give you small plates as share plates. Most Viet dishes should be eaten in a small bowl if you're using chopsticks. The only dish where it's a plate is com tam (broken rice) and then you eat it with a fork/spoon. So it was very awkward trying to eat rice/catfish with chopsticks on a plate. read more

On a cool Sunday afternoon, I walked in with a friend for brunch. The restaurant looked quite empty, but we were told the only seats were outside under the heating lamps. We'd come to the neighborhood specifically to try Monsoon, so we went ahead and took the outdoor seating. The dishes we ordered were the Catfish Claypot, Wokked Lemongrass Tofu, and Bò Lá Lốt. These were shared family-style. I'd say the size of these three dishes would just barely fill two people; they're on the small side. I liked the spices used in the Bò Lá Lốt. The wokked tofu tasted kind of sweet and I didn't get any lemongrass notes. Claypot catfish was my favorite one, but the sauce was very similar to the wokked tofu (i.e. sweet), and it unfortunately did not come in a claypot, so no crispy bottom layer of toasted rice. Good service and nice interior (seen only briefly when first walking in), but the outdoor seats were also fine. It was an expensive meal, but I feel like I hadn't partaken in anything special. Monsoon is unbelievably under-rated on this app. The food is nuanced and delicious- we particularly enjoyed the la lot and the halibut (super flavorful all the way through). The green papaya salad was also very well done- super balanced. The service and ambiance were pretty chill. It wasn't too loud (tbf we did have a corner table). It's really easy to do small plates family style since most things come in groups of four. The larger plates are a little harder to do family style but I think it still works! Long time customer but never again. Was served an abhorrent bone-in chicken dish last night which is under Mains. It seems they took the chicken's rib cage, smashed it up, and put those bones into the dish with no meat at all (maybe 2 thumbnail's worth of meat) . I was literally served a choking hazard full of bones and gross skin. I could not identify any part of this chicken! I assume this dish is the scraps from the Drunken Chicken, also a Main. Unbelievable. Total scam. I ordered the eggplant and a glass of wine. This is all for 1 person. Honestly super disappointed. I decided to get outdoor seating and there was also a table with two women outside. Once seated we sat outside for 20 minutes at minimum and never even got a cup of water or anything. The other party got their appetizer, main course, food, drinks, and a second round of drinks. The Fresh Rolls with Ahi Tuna ($13.5) were delicious but TEENY tiny, loved the spin with ahi tuna and avocado. We've been to this spot many times over the years, but it's been a while. They have a wonderful outside area with plenty of heat. And the downstairs is bright and airy which is particularly comforting during the pandemic. The food seems to really have taken a step up as at least for me they are closer to authentic Vietnamese. Then we had the Luc Lac Beef Tenderloin, which came with a nice light mixed green salad. The beef was perfectly cooked and tender. Pretty good option for Vietnamese. The Out of Harm's Way cocktail was a fab negroni rif, made with rum served over a big cube. Dishes served family style so go with a group that likes to share. The papaya salad, fresh tofu rolls, and coconutty eggplant were my faves. Halibut and wok fried noodles were also good, though green beans were not my fave.
