This place is special. We were wandering and wanted to get a light lunch and something about Mont Bar stood out to us. Sometimes you can just tell that a great meal awaits. Well this was one of those times. We had lunch, and I wish we had been hungrier so that we could have tried more but we kept it light. But those few small dishes left a big imprint on us. The squid ink crunch with sardines, mango, creme, and caviar is one of my favorite bites of food ever. Tthe scallop nigri with eel was also a beautiful dish. Service was friendly, helpful, professional. We meant to go back for dinner one night but never made it. We'll be back someday! read more

It is a nice looking bar. Just didn't think the food was that great. We had a cheese plate, some vegetable dumplings, a small hamburger thing, smoked tuna, anchovies, some other stuff. Maybe it was an off night. I generally do not criticize service, especially where accidents happen - everybody makes mistakes. They charged us for two plates of a dish we only got one of, and they didn't bring us another dish that was on the bill. They were not rude at all when I brought it to their attention, and in fact the waiter apologized and corrected it immediately on the bill. So in my view, that is good service. Still, things were a little slow for us and they didn't seem very busy. read more

I'll start with saying that the food is incredible. The flavors and presentation are all on point. The atmosphere is also great. We sat on the patio and had a great time people watching (it's located on a corner so even better). The reason I had to give Mont Bar 4/5 stars is because the service was painfully slow and inattentive. The server was very nice, but multiple times when I tried to wave him over to put in our drink or food orders, he would look at me dead in the eye and just go back inside without helping me (it wasn't even busy). Finally after about 20 minutes when we got him to our table, we gave him our drink order then I asked for the WiFi password, which he gave me, and I continued with "and to eat we will have.." and he just walked away before I could put our food in. I don't think he was intentionally trying to be rude, but it was kind of weird. Aside from that, it was a great midday snack and I would probably go back, given I'm not in a rush. Food isn't cheap, so be prepared to spend a pretty penny. read more

Our concierge at hotel arts recommended mont bar and I was hesitant based on the mixed reviews. That being said this was probably our best dining experience in Barcelona and we had some great ones. My boys are 13, 16 and 17 and are willing to try different foods and at one point my 17 year old kissed this plate of pig terrine. The portions are small and we had to order seconds of some. I do agree that it is expensive too. We ordered croquettes and they were the best we had in Barcelona. The straciatella salad was unexpected in appearance but delicious and we ordered a second one. The tuna and dumplings were also great. The chicken canelloni and pig terrine were also some of the best plates in Barcelona and we ordered seconds. The wagyu beef tasted divine And we tried all the desserts. I could barely get a bite in with 4 sets of male arms reaching for it (get the picture) but all were gone on seconds so it gives you an idea of how good it was. The chef was kind enough to come out and say hello and took a picture with us. I'm glad we went in despite some other reviewers and will definitely go back if I'm in Barcelona again! read more

The best meal we've had in Barcelona four days in (with four days to go). Probably the first place we've been to that didn't cater to tourists. - Attentive service that was nicely paced - Enjoyed the outdoor seating on the street corner. Lots of people watching - The olives were the best I've had. The spice added a little something extra that we enjoyed - The burrata salad was an amazing start. The freshness of the tomatoes, the perfect temperature of the burrata, combined with the nuts, dried fruit, and olive oil was the perfect start - Next came the tuna belly. Just seriously wow. It came out on a plate that had been recently covered and injected with smoke. Tuna belly by itself is amazing, but the smoke, the large crystals of sea salt, and the touch of sauce (I couldn't identify it) combined to form one of the best dishes I've ever eaten. It was so good, we ordered another - The red prawn ceviche was light and had a slight fruitiness that we liked - The steak tartare was ok. It was prepared well, but it lacked that special something Overall, we really enjoyed our meal here and will long remember the amazing tuna belly. read more

We went recently to celebrate a birthday and couldn't have had a better experience. The place is small and well decorated with great service. We let the server choose what we ordered and he brought us about 15 rounds of delicious food. The Burrata Mozarrella was some of the best I have ever had, and the scallops and prawns were incredible. As a pescetarian, I didn't get to try the meat but everyone at the table was raving that it was some of the best ham, lamb, and pig they had ever had. Will definitely be back, even if it's just for the scallops. read more

And service (at least outside) was painfully slow, even by leisurely Barcelona standards. 2) While one should not expect typical tapas, there will be dishes (such as stracciatella) drowned in foams and mayonnaisey creams (such as the majority of the straight-forward-sounding crispy jalapeños and corn). The langoustines with kimchi was also a tube of savory-but-innocuous cream that had no trace of pungent kimchi. It's a sort of fusion-tapas place with exotic, mix-and-match ingredients and plate presentation. We tried a few plates : the best was the burrata with tomatoes. The chicken canneloni was pretty good too. The cold coconut and fresh mackerel soup is special because the ingredients don't match and I'm not a fan of raw mackerel. For dessert we tried the truffled tiramisu which is a tiramisu with a white chocolate and truffle sort of crust. It smells like mushrooms so it's quite upsetting while eating a dessert. Some other offerings sounded interesting though. read more

Top marks for the tuna belly and sea cucumber tapas! Can't begin to describe how sublime both dishes were. The tuna belly had a soft, luscious texture and smokiness to it while the sea cucumber had a magnificent crunchinrss to it and was accompanied by a flavorful sauce. Nice restaurant, great presentation of food, friendly staff, HOWEVER...the food could be a lot better. Tiny portions, not worth the price. We asked for butter for our bread 3 times and upon almost leaving their asked whether or not we received the butter....ugh, no? My husband and I were fairly disappointed and were already trying to figure out where we wanted to go eat after we finished our meal here. My favorite meal in Barcelona. Outstandingly devoid of tourists. Perfect lighting and decor. I don't recall the names of what we had and couldn't find an online English menu, but there's a tuna dish on the medium size menu which comes out with a dome of smoke. While you think it could be smoke in mirrors, it's not (if you like shishimi style tuna). I highly recommend calling for reservations. This place is tiny. read more

The meal started out great. Outstanding olives and bread were delivered to the table as I just sat down. The olives were among the best I've ever had. I started with the house made burrata which was very good. I then had the smoked tuna belly that everyone raves about. It was OK, but not necessarily worth 20 Euros. I was still a bit hungry so I ordered the soup special of the day - cream of cauliflower with caviar on top. I guess I should have asked the price before ordering - I get the bill and the price of the soup was 40 euros - as much as the entire meal. This restaurant was recommended by a friend, but it was a major disappointment. We ordered three "snacks" (langoustine "cannelloni," crispy jalepeño and corn, and a pork and shrimp "sandwich") and one shared dish (a foamy stracciatella--the cheese, not the pasta or gelato--with a pistachio and tomato concoction). The chef appears to be striving for something that might come out of an Adrià kitchen, though his reach far exceeds his grasp. When paying prices like these, you expect a certain level of excellence. The dishes all looked attractive, though nothing we tasted distinguished itself in any way. The langoustine inside the cannelloni was a tasteless goo. The crispy jalapeño dish was dominated by blobs of mayo. And the sudsy "foam" atop the stracciatella was a bland white-on-white experiment that felt embarrassingly dated. They neglected to bring the pork and shrimp sandwich, which--when it finally arrived (though not until we reminded them)--turned out to be a sorry gelatinous hash wedged between a triangle of soggy toast. To make matters worse, they charged us for two bread "covers," which we never received, and two pork-and-shrimp sandwiches--the dish that almost never came and for which we ordered only one. (Our waiter adjusted the bill accordingly, though he never apologized for the extraneous charges.) The wine was good. read more

This place was within a few blocks of our apartment, which makes a return visit easy. It is on a corner, with 5-6 tables out front, seats at the bar, a couple of high tables and some low ones. The walls are lined with wine bottles, the lighting eclectic and bright enough to see the food, and the music was mostly Motown while we were there. The waiters were happy to explain as much as we asked in English, and we tried to read and use as much Catalan and Spanish as we could. I am not a gastronome, so the fact that, to me, the food was creative, exciting, flavorful might not meet the standard of a professional foodie. Too bad for the foodie! We had the razor clams, which kept the briny taste of the sea. We had mini-burgers of waygu beef but then came a plate of seasoned but crisp cooked vegetables in a potato foam peppered with black quinoa, and a chicken cannelloni in a sauce flavored with foie and truffle oil, accompanied by a few crisp sautéed mushrooms. We had enough room to share 2 desserts - butter cookie ice cream (as delicious as it sounds) and a cheery "toast" on which sat an iced apricot shell, which when cracked released an apricot cream as yellow as egg yolk, onto the toast. Breakfast food was never so good. One of the better meals I have had in recent years. read more

Gotta say this was probably the worst meal I've ever had in Barcelona, and I've been to the city 3 times already - it was underwhelming and overpriced. My boyfriend and I came on a Saturday night and they had some empty tables outside we could sit at. We decided to have the crab lasagna and chicken cannoli and two glasses of sangria. The crab lasagna was ok but not the best crab I've had and the dish was pretty average. Didn't love the chicken cannoli either - again it was fine and appreciate the chef trying to pursue some creative liberties to presenting food in a new light but just feel like it fell flat. We had the carrot cake for dessert, which the waiter or menu did not allude that it wasn't actual carrot cake but more ice cream covered with some white foam and tiny bits of carrots decorating it...it was fine for what it was but honestly didn't see the point of paying so much for ice cream they dressed up as an actual dessert. The entire meal was extremely overpriced - main dishes were around 20-25 euro for small portions but what blew our minds was that the sangria was 8 euro EACH (absurd considering this is Spain we are talking about, not an overpriced nyc bar). Also, the waiter did not ask whether we wanted to be charged on the card in USD or euro which we found out after we had left and we ended up paying more in FX rates because he pressed USD on the machine when he should have asked what we preferred. Basically left the completely mediocre dinner paying almost 80 euro - a complete waste of our time and money. read more

First let me say the service was perfection. Friendly, attentive, knowledgable and prepared with recommendations. At one point he even apologized for his English, which is NOT necessary? If anyone should apologize it's me for being too intimidated to speak my Spanglish thinking that you spoke Catalan. I digress. I was drawn to this restaurant by the photos on Yelp. Maybe January isn't the best month because I stared at the menu for what seemed like 15 minutes before I could force myself to order something. The sausage/cheese Mochi....way too greasy/fatty. The croquette, not terrible but I've already had better twice in Spain (this is my 3rd night) and back in the states. Cold coconut soup was delicious but I had to eat it quickly because I do not like sardines and towards the end when the liquid soup started to emulsify with the sardines I could't stomach it any longer. Why would you want to make something so delicious taste so fishy? The pine nut ice cream was a fantastic way to end the meal of me choking down unchwewed (not a word i know) bites of food with water. It was the best part for me. That and the olive oil (which I had to ask for). It was green, like olive green, unlike the weak yellow tinted crap that we pass off as EVOO in the States. The worst part though had nothing to do with the food....they played 50s-60s American doo-wop music the entire time. First of all, that shit made me want to go to sleep. That is not the kind of vibe you should want in a restaurant. Second of all, american music is the last thing I want to hear when traveling to another country. read more

We were not expecting to be disappointed as Mont Bar has received many good reviews. Even our tour guide highly recommended it as he recently dined there. I think it's one of those restaurants that is big on presentation and trying hard to be unique, but fell short on taste. The tuna tartar was good and so were the oysters, but other than that most dishes were not that good. The mochi mostly tasted of mochi and no flavor of the stuffing inside. We had a scallop dish that was ok. The rice cakes tasted just like the shrimp chips you get at a Chinese restaurant. We also had a dish that looked like a sandwich made of shrimp, which just was not tasty. Perhaps we ordered the wrong things. On this trip throughout Spain, we ate at many Michelin mentioned or starred restaurants and this one somehow fell short. read more

Each dish is small but contains ingredients you might not think of together, and is plated on china that perfectly matches the dish.
