So in town on business and the locals in Abbeville was just not that great. So I open my Yelp app and 20 minutes away is this gem (Montagues). When you walk in nothing fancy, a bar and some tables on the side. But behind the bar is a very decent dinning area. I chose the bar for it's just me. Started off with an old fashion, appetizer the garlic parmesan wings (very tiny wings) 6.5 out of 10. My entree an 8 0z salmon with the Brussels sprouts glazed in balsamic and bacon. I gave it an 8 out 10 only because she brought both dishes at the same time, by the time I finished my wings the entrée wasn't as hot as it should've been. The live music was cool, the overall experience 8 out of 10. But compare to the town Abbeville definitely worth the drive. Kudos to this establishment for having decent drinks and food. If I'm ever in town again definitely will be stopping in. read more

We came to Montague's to celebrate my aunts birthday and had previously been for a dinner prior to making a reservation again. Reservations were easy to make, and helpful when arriving as we were greeted by last name once we arrived. Amazing service. I ordered the Bourbon Sour as a drink and it was so smooth, fully bodied and yet light. Perfect mix of bourbon and the tartness of the sour mix. Next, for the appetizer, I ordered the Thai Chicken bites as they were a recommendation from the waitress to do so. They came out super quick, but they were full of flavor, perfectly tender, and not overly saucey. It was great to have as a protein option before dinner. Dinner came out quickly with the table ordering a Ribeye, Seafood Charleston, and Chicken Ellen. For the Chicken Ellen, it was hands down the best chicken breasts packed with flavor and perfectly moist. Adding sides for Brussels sprouts and asparagus was an elegant magic with the cream sauce. Talk about a match made in heaven with the crispy light and airy Brussel sprouts. Such a great recommendation pairing by our waitress! I wish we had enough room for dessert because the options sounded amazing, but I was too full to indulge. Highly recommend! read more

Food average, service average, ambiance lousy as two tables mentioned to the waiter and waitress that it was too cold, and it stayed too cold! Received final bill without itemization, and it was much higher than I expected. I had to ask for an itemized bill which showed a 20% Service Fee added and a credit card usage fee. Neither fee was mentioned anywhere on the menu or by our waitress prior to ordering. The credit card bill showed that the service fee $$$ amount was the 20% tip level. So, IF I tip, it cost me 40% of the bill? NOT!!! I was never asked if I wanted to pay cash which I would have done IF I had known that there was card fee. I have no problem with REASONABLE service fees or card fees as long as the business is upfront and informs me of those fees. This business was not upfront and did not inform me, thus I will not return. read more

This was my first time in Greenwood. We visited Montague on a Wednesday night in 2 large groups. The staff was very polite in trying to seat us all together. They say 1/2 of us in a private dining section which was great. Our waiter was forthcoming asking that we be a little patient with the wait for our food since the group was larger and we didn't have reservations. No problem for our group since that was explained up front. They even allowed our 2 large groups to combine mid-dining. High prices, and I would say worth it! The service my wife and I had on our date was pretty incredible. The waiter helped her navigate the menu to select some non-dairy options for her allergy - he even brought out some non-buttered rolls for her fresh out of the oven! So thoughtful. We enjoyed a couple glasses of wine each - fairly priced and BIG POURS! We both had the salmon, which was cooked perfectly, and all of our sides were delicious. I will say that it took a while for the food to come out, but I have some POSITIVE thoughts about that: 1) My wife and I were on our first date away from our newborn while her grandparents watched over her. We wanted that to last as long as it could! 2) We shared good wine and good conversation, so we weren't in a hurry. 3) It's likely during COVID-19 that the kitchen isn't as staffed as normal. And though it was slower... 4) Our fish and sides came out perfectly cooked and seasoned, and the waiter had the kitchen prep a special sauce for my wife's dish that is off menu and dairy free. (Quick note - although we order salmon medium at all restaurants, my wife's salmon has come out raw at the last 3-4 restaurants we've been to. Not having to send back her dish was REFRESHING.) I wish I could remember waiter's name - he was kind, helpful, and went the second mile for my wife, which allowed me to relax and enjoy looking at her enjoying dinner. This is our favorite restaurant in Greenwood, SC. Very consistently great, from the service, to the food, to the specials..... they are really good at what they do. Bartenders make a superb Cosmopolitan and they have a small but carefully selected wine list. Worth every $. Where to begin ?? So we went on a Saturday night with a party of 17 New York/ New Jersey family members. We called ahead 2 hours to set up the large party reservation. We are all open minded and we're definitely not trying to be foodie snobs. So it's nice inside. Romantic cozy decor. It's located in a strip mall, that is kind of lonely and a bit run down. We were in town for a 90th birthday party and everyone was looking forward to a nice meal. I'll admit that a relative recommended this place but he hadn't been there in a few years. And he said it was the best restaurant in town a few years ago . So here we go. We were seated , the restaurant was not very busy. It took 50 minutes to get menus. The waiter tried his best but this place cannot handle a large table. Four people got the crab bisque, it was inedible. Incredibly salty. Don't even understand how they were able to serve this. Does the chef not check on the tastes of his dishes ? For entrees , it took a total of two hours to get our food. Many mistakes were made like wrong sizes served. I got seared tuna. It was refrigerator cold inside. We ordered many of the entrees and no dish really stood out.,And several were just bad. Avoid tuna , salmon , shrimp. I'd say just avoid this place completely. We asked to speak to the manager twice. He never showed. Absolutely horrible experience. This place is not long for business. Lesson learned. Next time override opinions of family members and check Yelp. Sorry for my grammar peeps. But I'm pissed off and still hungry. read more

I've been trying to think of a reason I would dine here again, and the best I can come up with is - if I was ever in the mood for a very slow evening with mediocre food in a dreary dining room. The food was edible, but was nothing special at all. It wasn't bad, it just wasn't above average. When we walked in, the bar almost had that worn-in, iconic local history feel, but as we walked further in, that feeling quickly left. The local after work regulars sat at the bar. Walking into the dining room, again you wanted to feel that local iconic history place feeling - but again, it's just doesn't fully form. Instead you are left feeling like the place is struggling to stay in business. The entire interior is dated and worn. Two servers struggled to serve 11 diners across 5 tables. Ours was very nice, just slow. The bar seems to be this spots life preserver, but it wasn't even crowded, busy, or even close to capacity. Everything here needs a make over - the menu, kitchen skills, and decor. It is also over priced for the quality of food. Go to Polo's or Pascals instead. read more

I was not really impressed by the food here. The service was very slow. The front end of the restaurant wasn't well staff. There was only one waitress for the entire front end it seemed like. I didn't mind the wait as much because I noticed the single waitress tending to all the patrons in the front. However, when the food came out, my friend and I were pretty disappointed. I got the shrimp & grits and my friend got the risotto. Taste-wise, both dishes were mediocre. They weren't necessarily bad but they weren't necessarily good. Overall, I was simply disappointed. I might give this restaurant another chance in the future but as for now, I probably won't be back here for a while. read more

I was told it is one of the best "high end" restaurants in Greenwood, and it may be, but the menu and quality to not hold up to what you see in larger cities. Went here with a group of 5. Was by far the worst meal I've ever had out. This place is way over rated and over priced. Had the oysters Rockefeller for apps, they were just ok, nothing special. Had the 7oz steak which they did comp us for because they were so bad. Grilled Asparagus was pretty much raw. The speciality chicken dish which was suppose to have crab, none could be found on two dishes, was no more the size of a chicken nugget. I.can't believe any chef would have sent those plates to any table. I did rate a 2 only because the service was very very good.
